Phones / Broken Screen? Here's What You Should Do! by phonedaddy: 9:33am On Mar 19, 2020
A phone with cracked screen is annoying! Right? But more than that it's unsafe, guys! Let us tell you HOW??

1. It may expose your skin to harmful radiations oozing off a broken mobile screen

2. It may send false touch signals to your phone that might induce heating issues, and damage your device further.

So we advise you to replace the broken screen ASAP.

But if you are going to take some time for that, we suggest you to apply a screen guard (tempered glass) immediately.

This will avoid direct contact with broken pieces, and also protect your phone screen from further damage.

The best option, however, is to visit your nearby Carlcare Service Centre, where our experts will provide quick and reliable repairing, lending your screen as good as new look.

Phones / How To Take Awesome Panorama Shotz by phonedaddy: 9:40am On Mar 04, 2020
hen we asked the noted outdoor and nature photographer Rod Planck about his method of shooting panoramas, the first thing he said was, "I like to keep it simple." We like to hear that, though he did add that making panoramic images isn't spontaneous point-and-shoot photography; it takes some preparation. But it is pretty basic, and the results are very cool.

A panoramic image depicts a field of view considerably wider than the one that can be captured in one exposure, and it tells a more complex story and draws the viewer of the image closer to the feeling of what it was like to be there.

To make a panorama, you take several shots that capture overlapping sections of the scene; then you use imaging software to seamlessly stitch (that is, join) the sections together.

Essentials
Gear

First, a tripod with a built-in bubble level. Next, a ball head for that tripod so you can smoothly and accurately turn your camera to capture the sections of the scene that the software will stitch to form the big picture.

The essential first step: level the tripod. Then attach and level your device.
For most panoramas, it's best to shoot with your camera mounted to the tripod in the vertical position; that way you'll have plenty of room to crop the top and bottom of your stitched image.

Shooting a panorama horizontally is fine, too, but it can result in very narrow image. Best bet: experiment, then evaluate.

Settings

Rod shoots aperture priority for almost everything, but not for panoramas because he doesn't want the camera making automatic settings. "I go to manual exposure for my panoramic images," he says. "I pick the brightest part of the scene, meter it in manual and set the shutter speed and f/stop to bring the manual meter to center on the display. Then I take a sample shot and check the histogram to see if I'm within an acceptable range." (Because that sample shot is not going to fit anywhere in the sequence of image sections, it's a good idea to delete it immediately to avoid confusion later on.) You can also use Matrix metering to get your starting point for the test shot. Once you get your setting, use it for every section of the panorama.

The Process

"With the camera hand held, I look through the finder and actually rotate my body through the scene to get an idea of what I'll get," Rod says. "I'm finding my composition and deciding how many sections I'm going to have. You've got to have a composition that works well—just as any photograph, it should be a balanced, pleasing image."

When you're composing the image, remember that a panorama will pull the viewer left to right or right to left; there's not a lot of vertical movement.

If you'd like to try this, be aware that the camera should be in the horizontal position unless you want the result to be roughly a square format image. And be sure your test shot is made with the lens in its center position.

Phones / If You Want Your Infinix Phone To Last Longer THEN Stop Doing These! by phonedaddy: 4:38pm On Feb 26, 2020
Many phone users tend to complain that their devices batteries discharge or drain quickly than expected

It is also quite common to blame the product manufacturer for this issue however the manufacturer isn’t always at fault. You might want to consider one or two of these mistakes you have been making

1. Allowing the battery to reach low levels before charging

Avoid waiting for your battery to reach a critically low level before charging. The effect of this on your phone battery is not immediate, but over time it begins to manifest and it eventually stresses out your phone battery (yes, batteries get stressed too) and shortens the battery life and in return reduce the efficiency

2. Keeping your Phone case on while charging

Your phone typically emits heat when charging. To avoid exposing your device to ambient temperatures, it’s advisable to remove the phone case while charging your phone so that the heat emitted from your phone while charging can escape. This way you can prevent your device from becoming hotter and potentially overheating when charging.

3. Charging your phone in the wrong places

You should mind where you charge your phone, because not doing so can negatively affect your battery capacity. Phones have a temperature range they can function normally and charging your phone in a hot area can raise the temperature and stress the battery out.

4. Charging your phone overnight

The least you’ll sleep throughout the night is most likely going to be between 5 to 8 hours, your smartphone battery typically only needs 2 to 3 hours to fully charge. Charging your phone overnight, constantly stresses your phone battery each night.
https://www.infinix.club/ng/forum/824/2269767

5. Plugging whatever charger fits

This especially applies to smartphones. Most smartphones use a micro USB for its chargers and for this reasons most people tend to switch and swap chargers since it fits into and works on their phones. However, this is not appropriate and in the long run it can negatively affect your phone battery

Phones / The Benefits Of Dark Mode: Why Should You Turn Off The Lights? by phonedaddy: 10:16am On Feb 25, 2020
Lately, there has been a lots of attention surrounding dark mode, a simple toggle that lets you change the background colour to black.
It has recently been launched on many popular apps, as well as an optional theme on our device. We can safely say: dark mode is here to stay. Here we'll go over why should you turn it on and what are the benefits of dark mode.
The benefits of dark mode

Health & well-being

"Everyone can relate to being in a room where the lights are turned down and you've got this white screen blinding you,
But it is not just dry and painful eyes we get from looking at bright blue screens all day long. Exposure to light also suppresses the secretion of melatonin, a hormone needed for sleep.

Battery saving

Using the dark mode can prolong the battery life of your smartphone. Google has confirmed that using dark mode has been a huge help for battery life. For example, at 50% brightness, the Dark Mode interface in the YouTube app saves about 15% screen energy compared to a flat white background. At 100% screen brightness, the dark interface is saving a whopping 60% of screen energy. It is indeed a promising upgrade to our phones battery life.

It looks amazing

Let's be honest, dark mode just looks super amazing. While most products are going for that similar bland white look, the dark mode does offer something different that feels mysterious and new. It also provides great opportunities for presenting graphic content such as graphs, dashboards, pictures, and photos. For example, in Weekdone we use the RAG coloring system to provide a quick visual overview of goals progress. Here's how it looks in dark mode vs light mode.
https://www.infinix.club/ng/forum/824/2245730

There is some research that explores the correlation between the retention of users and using dark mode, which makes it an interesting opportunity for users. Eyes get less tired at night, so basically you are able to consume the content for longer periods. If you love to read before going to bed, then having a dark mode really makes it easier on your eyes.

Phones / Google To Review Apps That Use Location In Background by phonedaddy: 10:26am On Feb 20, 2020
Last year, Android 10 let users limit an application’s location access to only when it’s actively in use. Android 11 later this year builds on that with one-time access, as well as a new Google Play policy that requires “developers get approval if they want to access location data in the background.”

This policy change is aimed at older versions of the operating system, and will be applied at the Play Store level.

As we took a closer look at background location usage, we found that many of the apps that requested background location didn’t actually need it. In fact, many of these apps could provide the same user experience by only accessing location when the app is visible to the user. We want to make it easier for users to choose when to share their location and they shouldn’t be asked for a permission that the app doesn’t need.

Developers will need to get approval from Google if they want access to a user’s location data in the background. The company’s app store review team will be factoring the following considerations when granting authorization, with all of Google’s applications also subject to this rule:

Does the feature deliver clear value to the user?
Would users expect the app to access their location in the background?
Is the feature important to the primary purpose of the app?
Can you deliver the same experience without accessing location in the background?
Google provides three examples, and notes how the “vast majority” of developers “understood user concerns over their information falling into the wrong hands and were willing to change their location usage to be safer and more transparent.”

An app that sends emergency or safety alerts as part of its core functionality – and clearly communicates why access is needed to the user – would have a strong case to request background location.

A social networking app that allows users to elect to continuously share their location with friends would also have a strong case to access location in the background.

An app with a store locator feature would work just fine by only accessing location when the app is visible to the user. In this scenario, the app would not have a strong case to request background location under the new policy.

This policy starts in April, with enforcement for new apps beginning August 3 and existing ones November 2.

https://www.infinix.club/ng/forum/824/2138799

April: official Google Play policy update with background location
May: developers can request feedback on their use case via the Play Console with an estimated reply time of 2 weeks, depending on volume
August 3rd: all new apps submitted to Google Play that access background location will need to be approved
November 2nd: all existing apps that request background location will need to be approved or will be removed from Google Play
This new rule builds on previous Play Store policies that limit third-party apps from “unnecessarily” accessing device call and text logs. Only dialers and SMS clients with those core functions can now request those permissions today following a review by Google.

Phones / What Is Pigweed? Google’s New Operating System? by phonedaddy: 10:28am On Feb 07, 2020
Over the years, Google has developed multiple operating systems, including Chrome OS, Android, and more recently Fuchsia. According to Google’s new US trademark application, the company may be developing another operating system. A Redditor found that Google has submitted a new trademark application to USPTO under the name “Pigweed” and according to Google, the Pigweed trademark will cover “computer operating software”.

According to reports, “Pigweed” literally translates as “Ceratoporia”, which is an edible green leafy plant with nutrition. When some quinoa is fully grown, it will dry out and form tumbleweed, spreading their seeds when the wind blows. This is not the first time that the term “pigweed” is appearing on Google’s system. Pigweed previously appeared in the Fuchsia operating system code. Furthermore, it has also been spotted on Google Chrome code. However, this does not explain its relevance.

Currently, there is very little information about “Pigweed”. The name “Android” was registered five days before the operating system was first publicly released in 2007, and the term “Chromebook” was not registered until months after the first Chromebooks went on sale in 2011. At the same time, the name “Fuchsia” has been registered for more than two years and has not yet been officially released. Thus, we can not really say much about this “new system”.

Phones / Are You The Common Smartphone User Or Are You Sophisticated? Find Out Here. by phonedaddy: 3:34pm On Jan 29, 2020
Do you know your navigation button can reveal the type of smartphone user you are.

There are three options of system navigation as shown in the screenshot below.
Which one are you using currently?
1) Gesture Navigation: This is special, no BACK, HOME or OVERVIEW button, you just have to swipe certain parts of the screen to go BACK, HOME or CHECK recently opened apps. It is unfamiliar to most android users and complex to use but if you can use it well, it makes you look more savvy.
In fact, there is high probability that most people won't be able to use your smartphone as they would be surprised to see that your android device does not have any BACK, HOME and OVERVIEW button. Yet, anyone can navigate well with it once they have mastered it.

2) 2-button Navigation: Only BACK button and HOME button is available. Swiping up the HOME button will show your recently opened apps (a.k.a OVERVIEW) and you can easily switch from app to another by swiping the home button to the right. One advantage to it is that it is not as complex as the Gesture Navigation and when it comes to switching between recently opened app, swiping the home button to the right makes it faster than any other method.

3) 3-button Navigation: The boring, default and common type. Usually, it is the default option on most android smartphones. I don't have much to say about it, you already know it provides you with the BACK, HOME and OVERVIEW buttons. The advantage is the ease of using it and how familiar it is to most android users. 3-button Navigation System makes it possible for you to just pick up virtually any android device and navigate easily.

Once again, which one are you using currently?

Phones / Google Is Working On Native Call Recording For The Phone App by phonedaddy: 9:28am On Jan 17, 2020
Google's Call Screening service has allowed you to record screened calls for quite some time, but many people have been asking for a native solution letting them save any phone conversation. It looks like Google is working on introducing this functionality to its Phone app.

XDA Developers peeked at the code of the current Phone app beta version 43.0.289191107 and found that Google has already added a new layout, an icon, and more assets that hint at call recording through the application. Some strings also point to a new in-call button that should allow you to quickly start saving audio.

Record
Record
Recording

The feature would be a welcome addition to the Phone app, especially since Google doesn't allow third-party call recording apps anymore. We can assume that the functionality won't be activated everywhere around the world, though, as many countries and some US states forbid recording phone conversations.

It might take some time until call recording shows up for anyone using the Phone app, but using the latest version might help you get it faster than others, so be sure to head to the Play Store to sign up for the beta or go to APK Mirror to get the update.
