CareerRe: 5 Places To Start Career In Nigeria by Phonon: 8:08am On Apr 23, 2013
Trust me,I know about whatever jobs engineers do in a telecommunications company.
john365: the truth is that most of this telecoms companies hardly take in graduates or people without experience, this is because as soon as they grab the experience they will start jumping from one telecoms company to the other. most times it cost the company alot.
as for climbing mask there are many field of expertise in telecoms, those that climb mask are called riggers they enjoy but i see as suffering. there is VAS, Planning, Optimization, IT, HR, Database admins etc. in my own opinion the real engineering work is done by the RF network planning and Optimization engineers-seniors are in the office always while juniors sometimes go to the field but jst to tell those that climb what to do when they are up there.

Where did cover letter come from now?It would not hurt if you add it to your application but it is not necessary.

Waiting for the guy's answers...
Jarus: Nice questions.
CareerRe: 5 Places To Start Career In Nigeria by Phonon: 1:22pm On Apr 20, 2013
There are so many top companies here that make it a de facto company policy not to recruit openly for entry level staff, and I mean graduates with ZERO experience.

-Aviat Networks
-Statoil
-Almost all the investment banks
-GE(forget their Early Career Development Program. You rarely hear anyone who got the job as a fresh graduate from a Nigerian university )
-MTN
-Etisalat
-Huawei
-Motorola
-Oracle
-Alcatel-Lucent
-Subsea 7 etc

These are companies that have operations in Nigeria but how many people have you heard got entry-level jobs there via an open process.Great companies but if you don't have the opportunity to compete for a place, then what good are they to job applicants?
CareerRe: 5 Places To Start Career In Nigeria by Phonon: 11:40pm On Apr 19, 2013
Please, tell us how career progression is in the aforementioned companies?Do they promote one at definite intervals?Do they give one the opportunity to work closely with top management of companies?Do they recruit every year and how many do they recruit each year?Did Ericsson stop their Graduate Trainee program? How many times have Huawei or MTN or Etisalat put up adverts for entry-level engineers and how often do they do their engineers do 'real' engineering work or do they just climb masts?I would like answers to these questions.Looking forward to your reply.Thank You.
john365: please all these companies are financial in nature. the place to start your career should depend what you want to be.
if everybody works for these companies then how do we groom telecoms engineers, network engineers, petroleum engineers, automobile engineers, sales reps and agents and others.

All these companies mentioned are they better than Chevron, Total, MTN, Huawei, Ericson, Etisalat and the rest of them.

There are fields where you have to pay yours dues in terms of gaining experience before start enjoying yourself but you will end up with a reasonable or better career.

What is with the 'Oga'?I be small pikin o.As ARMANI_NG has explained, seek to reschedule your test date.Call HR and explain your situation and they would most likely give you another date.KPMG ' recruits daily'.:-D
nnams316: Oga phonon I was invited for the KPMG test on sat, the problem I'm having is that I am in PH. Came for a burial. Is it possible KPMG has a ph exam venue? And if they do, where is it located and will it be okay if I go to write there?
CareerRe: 5 Places To Start Career In Nigeria by Phonon: 6:39am On Apr 19, 2013
I wonder o.
Jarus: Bros, na wa o. So because we say kpmg is good place to start career, you expect them to fill experienced positions like the advertised one with fresh graduate, or you don't expect them to have experienced openings
CareerRe: 5 Places To Start Career In Nigeria by Phonon: 8:40pm On Apr 18, 2013
Really? For Graduate Trainee? That is quite some allegation. This is the same thing I was writing about.ATTENTION TO DETAIL.Jarus was referring to places where you can START your career.
cdamsel: Did u see KPMG's employment advert last week?they were looking 4 pple with max 15yrs experience & 6yrs min,so its nt a good place 2 start undecided
CareerRe: 5 Places To Start Career In Nigeria by Phonon: 5:03pm On Apr 18, 2013
You wonder why many graduates don't get jobs and the answer is not far-fetched.A great lack of attention to details and the inability to understand simple grammar.

Jarus wrote '5 Places To Start Career in Nigeria'. Some persons have now added several adjectives like 'Top','Best' just to discredit the topic. He never indicated that you will be a failure if your career does not begin in any of the aforementioned companies. The topic is not meant to discredit those who did not have the opportunity to work there.

Make meaningful contributions or just go and lick soup.THANK YOU.

WORDS OF ADVICE TO JOB APPLICANTS:

Any job posting that requires you to send your CV to an email address which cost nothing to open is a SCAM.Any company recruiting that can't afford a website with email accounts is not worth working for.I as an individual can afford to open a website,so why shouldn't a company that employs people?

SCAM!SCAM!SCAM!
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Graduate Trainee_kpmg(audit) by Phonon:
Exactly.Putting my other plans on hold was a HUGE mistake but now it is back on track.Let us see what happens.
michaeled45: Its just sad. They keep playng with pples emotions. At times u might even put important events in ur life on hold all in anticipation of getting a job soon.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Graduate Trainee_kpmg(audit) by Phonon: 1:53pm On Apr 17, 2013
Well,I would be lying if I say I knew why this is happening. It was for this exact position that I applied last year November. It seemed as if there was an urgent need for Audit Associates as test was conducted almost immediately after the application deadline and interviews concluded almost within two weeks. We were even told by one HR representative that by January 2012,positions for Audit will be filled. Many months have passed by since passing my Partner interview and all I get is,'We'll get back to you soon.'What can I do?It ain't my father's company.
michaeled45: phonon these guys are jokers. Too bad we don't havve any agency dat looks into job recruitment in Nigeria so they can do whatever they want. I bet they can't even try this in their home country. They are in the habbit of leaving pple hanging without regret or success mails and yyet advertise for same position. I don't understand

Jobs/VacanciesRe: What is a 'Good' Job? by Phonon: 8:49pm On Apr 16, 2013
Well, those at the bottom of the organogram have to work a lot to make their boss's life easy.Of course, you would do all the physical work but the decision-making responsibility lies with someone higher. You might not be paid as much as your boss considering all your work but when the 's*** hits the fan',your boss would be taking a greater hit.In the end,the experience garnered doing the work will provide monetary rewards eventually.

swtchicgurl: True that! Ehhmmm, but in most companies, those at d bottom of the organogram work more but gets paid lesser than those higher on the organogram. Is certificate or experience d effort u're talking about here?
Jobs/VacanciesRe: What is a 'Good' Job? by Phonon: 4:06pm On Apr 16, 2013
One that utilizes your skills and talents to the optimum and pays you an amount commensurate with your efforts.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: KPMG Graduate Training 2013: Any info? by Phonon: 12:23pm On Apr 12, 2013
Just do an Internet search for "KPMG Nigeria Interviews" and you would get multiple links to threads on Nairaland that would answer your questions.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: Waiting To Resume With KPMG? by Phonon(op): 6:20pm On Apr 10, 2013
You are not alone. When KPMG says they will get back to you, they eventually will but not as soon as you might want.Patience is key.I have solace in the fact that the recruitment is merit-based so if one has the necessary abilities, the job would be theirs.

1.He kissed me but I didn't kiss him back even though it lasted for about 2 minutes.

2.I slept with him but I did not feel anything.

3. Boyfriend:Who was that guy?
Girlfriend:That guy you saw me with in the car?The one that you saw handing me a wad of cash?He is the brother of my aunty's sister's cousin's nephew's dad.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: KPMG Graduate Training 2013: Any info? by Phonon: 1:33pm On Apr 09, 2013
No qualms.
oxygen25: ^^^ oh thanks! Quite a swift one. Very grateful.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: KPMG Graduate Training 2013: Any info? by Phonon: 1:09pm On Apr 09, 2013
You can submit the form without the transcript. You will be told to get it as soon as possible. You will not be made an offer,if you scale through all the interviews without that transcript.
oxygen25: @phonon and others, I need your urgent response, I passed their test and the next step is filling of application form, meanwhile, transcript indicating final CGPA is needed, but I do not have, I have the others apart from the last one, except I go to my alma mata to get it, and that will be late. Will they accept the one before the final that has CGPA or what?

Hope it won't affect the documentation thing. I await 'una' prompt response cos I must do it before friday. Thanks
Jobs/VacanciesRe: KPMG Graduate Training 2013: Any info? by Phonon: 9:56pm On Apr 08, 2013
I guess one would just have to wait till they call.THEY EVENTUALLY WILL.I did learn from an insider that there is a long list of people they have waiting to receive offers including those who have done all three interviews but are still doing their NYSC program. One would need to be patient;I do hate the "We'll get back to you soon" part.
Tingles: I called and sent them mails, I keep getting the same response: "we'll get back to you as soon as we get orders to do so". I can't keep pushing it, what will be will be.
CelebritiesRe: Omawumi Concert: The Lasso Of Truth (Pictures) by Phonon: 5:58pm On Apr 08, 2013
The least Omawunmi would have done was to have dressed as 'Wonder Woman' if she decided to name the theme of her show,'The Lasso of Truth'.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: KPMG Graduate Training 2013: Any info? by Phonon: 3:26pm On Apr 08, 2013
No qualms.Have you tried calling them to find out when you could be scheduled for the interview? The problem is that we are all being kept in the dark about if whole situation.Let's keep hope alive...
Tingles: That exactly is my fear, you have an edge sha, you have completed the 3 interviews. I still have one more interview to go. Please, if you hear from them, lemme know through one of the KPMG threads where I have contributed.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: KPMG Graduate Training 2013: Any info? by Phonon: 10:42am On Apr 08, 2013
They haven't.
What more can one do?The age question is a very valid point and that is one that concerns me the most.I am wondering if it comes down to choosing between two equally capable hands and one is15 year old and the other a lot older, what will happen?
Tingles: They still haven't called you? I have a lot of patience, I am just worried about the age factor, is it when one is older than their set age-limit that one will be called?
Jobs/VacanciesRe: KPMG Graduate Training 2013: Any info? by Phonon: 1:42pm On Apr 07, 2013
I am wondering how many people they would be taking in this year. With KPMG,one has to have twice the patience of Job in the Bible.:-D
Tingles: Why are they still conducting tests when some of us are yet to be invited for our third interviews? This long wait is killing, I am tired.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: KPMG Graduate Training 2013: Any info? by Phonon: 7:15am On Apr 07, 2013
Thanks man.Good luck with your interviews.
Oh well true. But the probability is high 4 u. Point is @ least you've scaled all three so you can calm down to an extent. Cheers and all d best.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: KPMG Graduate Training 2013: Any info? by Phonon: 10:33pm On Apr 06, 2013
Well, nothing is certain. They can decide otherwise;they are not obligated to give anyone a job.You will get your interview when it is time;you and I did not start the process the same time.
@Phonon oh well at least you're waiting to most certainly resume. u can travel on vacation and return september sef grin ...unlike the rest who are waiting for 2nd interviews
Jobs/VacanciesRe: KPMG Graduate Training 2013: Any info? by Phonon: 7:03pm On Apr 06, 2013
So KPMG has decided not to call those from last year yet?Till October I guess;it's a good thing one has an alternative.:-D
