Thanks for this info....Finally digested your contribution....I really commend this illustration and appreciate the time taken to give this illustration.
You are welcome. Great job you're doing.

Went through your first thread, read it to the end. It was very educative. Seriously following this to learn from your experience.

Would keep my questions for now.

djdoxxx:
How many acres do an acre occupy?

Depending on the spacing method used.....I have read in some articles that an acre would occupy 1,100 stumps of plantain using the 2.5 by 2.5 m spacing.....and between 800 - 900 stumps using the 3 by 3 m spacing...However, since this my first experience, I would like to see the numbers personally.
Plant population = Land area / plant density.

The area of an acre is 4046 m^2

Using a spacing of 2.5m by 2 5m,
The plant population / number of stumps would be = 4046m^2 / (2.5m * 2.5m)
which is 647 plants or stumps

Using a spacing of 3m by 3m, the plant population would be
4046m^2 / (3m*3m)
which is 499 plants or stumps.

The spacing of 3m by 3m is used when the farmer intends to intercrop as there would be spaces for other crops to grow.

Other common spacings are 3m by 2m recommended by IITA. This gives 666 plants per acre. And 2m by 2m, this spacing is advocated by people selling plantain suckers as it requires one to plant many suckers per acre. It gives 1000 plant/ stump per acre. The disadvantages is that the plantain would take longer time to produce fruit, grow taller and thinner due to competition for space and would produce smaller bunches.

Using fertigation ( constantly irrigating with water that contains fertilizer), and planting dwarf varieties, one can plant with a spacing of 1.5m by 1.5m which would give a plant population of 1777 plants per acre.

Don't mind him, Lucky igbinedion is arguably the worst governor in not only the history of Edo/Bendel , nor Nigeria but the whole of Africa. Even Obasanjo was ashamed when he came to Edo State then.

Comedians were mocking us that Lucky is maintaining the "Ancient" status of Benin.

He talked about employment during lucky, Lucky that retrenched many civil servants and after that put an embargo on employment into the civil service.

I entered JSS 1 1999 when lucky became governor. He started constructing Boundary road which he changed to Lucky way. I moved from JSS one to JSS 3 he was still grading the road , till I got to SSS 3 he was still grading the road.

The worst part is that the road is a very small road. I got admission into Uniben the same year I finish secondary school and he was still working on the road. It was when I was in 300 level he finished the road.

The road did not even last a year. a simple google of lucky way benin would show you the road. When roads constructed by Ogbemudia and Ali are still standing.

PoliticsRe: Imagine What Gov Fayose Said To The People Of Edo State by phyllosilicate(m): 7:27pm On Sep 06, 2016
In a free and fare election, it is to close to tell who will carry the day. The state machinery of the APC gives them the upper hand.

The only only way PDP can win is if Edos stand to protect their votes, but that is never going to happen. People don't like Ize Iyamu to the extent that they will stick their neck for him. So it would be easy for APC to manipulate the process.

I predict a very very low voters turn out, and that APC would carry the day hook or by crook.

PoliticsHow To Pad The Nigerian Budget And Become A Billionaire (part 2) by phyllosilicate(op): 3:56pm On Aug 28, 2016
PREMIUM TIMES has uncovered another budget padding scheme Nigerian lawmakers and cohorts in businesses and the executive arm of the government have deployed to steal billions of public funds through annual budgets.
People familiar with this second strategy have been briefing PREMIUM TIMES since the first story was published.
This strategy is different from our last expose on budget padding which dwelt on how criminally minded lawmakers steal from Nigerian budget by allocating huge sums to themselves in the guise of ‘Constituency Projects.”
Several insiders who briefed PREMIUM TIMES said this second strategy does not involve “Constituency Projects,” but solely conceptualized to steal.
It involves lawmakers adding huge sums into the budgets of legitimate government agencies to get paid 30 per cent of the padded sum once the budget is signed into law by the president. Of course, the 30 per cent upfront payment does not stop them from forwarding companies for the phantom contracts.
“The lawmakers are usually in a hurry to collect their money,” sources knowledgeable about this strategy told PREMIUM TIMES.
This strategy which has existed for more than a decade networks the lawmakers with budget jobbers – mostly miscreants – criminally minded businessmen, and government officials.
The network consists of the following:
Lawmakers: Made up a network of the leadership of the National Assembly and
groupings of lawmakers in both chambers. Insiders say conceptualizing a padding
project is as easy as network henchmen coming up with a sum, say N50 billion.
The sum is then split between both chambers. “Usually, Senators receive the
lion share,” a source told PREMIUM TIMES.
Within each chamber grouping,
leaders take the bulk before sharing whatever is left with others.
The ideation includes coming up
with probable candidates for the actors in the network.
Agents (Budget Jobbers) : As a lawmaker, it is highly risky to go cajole a government official into a budget padding scheme. It may backfire if the target official does not buy into it and one would have been exposed to evidence based blackmail and embarrassment. They therefore need an isolatable agent to clear the grounds.
Budget jobbers consist of a ring of swindlers, racketeers and touts. They have no known professional jobs and serve mainly as facilitators. They serve as agents of the lawmakers and courier information between every other member of the budget padding gang who has a reputation to protect. They are the kind of people who have nothing to lose and are willing to take the high risk of testing the waters. When a deal is conceived by the lawmakers, these jobbers are recruited. They in turn recruit every other member of the network.
Executive Arm Collaborator: To successfully pad the national budget, lawmakers need a cohort in the executive arm of government. Chairmen of presidential committees are preferred. Because these committees are transient, it is easier to obliterate financial documentations in history. Other target executive agents sort are heads of commissions or agencies, director generals or ministers. These executive agents provide the platform for the padding – they provide a legitimate body to receive allocation from the budget. These executive arm agents make their committees, agencies or ministries available to be used as a cover for smuggling the padded funds. They are recruited into a deal by the agents. Their participation earns them obscene amounts.
Money Bags: When this system of padding is preferred over constituency projects, the lawmakers involved are usually in a hurry to be paid. They have a standard 30 per cent of the entire sum padded paid immediately the budget is signed into law by the president. Because funds are usually not released immediately, a money bag is recruited.
The money bags, usually high network business people, bankroll the 30 per cent upfront payment to the lawmakers. In return, they are made “contractor” of choice for the Executive arm member of the gang. Over the course of the year, the Executive Arm Collaborator awards the Money Bag phantom contracts to cover the 30 per cent investment and make huge profits.
Through the contracts awarded
to the Money Bag, the Executive Arm Collaborator and everyone within his circle is paid.
“Usually, a little amount is left because the lawmakers come back from time to time to either ask for money directly or nominate a contractor for a phantom project,” a source said.

CrimeNigerian Church Syndicate, Which Specialises In Fake Prophecies, Nabbed by phyllosilicate(op): 10:37pm On Aug 21, 2016
The Enugu State Police Command has nabbed a suspected fake prophecy syndicate that specialises in working with owners of churches to confirm prophecies in order to win more members for such churches.
This is contained in a statement signed by the command’s spokesman, Ebere Amaraizu, in Enugu on Sunday.
Mr. Amaraizu said that the syndicate was nabbed at Holy Ghost park axis and popular P&T axis of Enugu metropolis by police operatives of the Central Police Station in Enugu.
He noted that the syndicate, who were nabbed on August 19 and 20 included Obi Ejike from Ubaho Okija in Ihiala Local Government in Anambra and Kuku Mary from Ijebu-ode in Ogun.
The others were Oluwakemi Joy from Ojo in Lagos State, Nwosu Chizoba from Umunze in Anambra and Peter Uchechi from Ebonyi.
The spokesman said that the syndicate was nabbed on their way to a church in Abakaliki and in Enugu to join in the fake prophecy deal before they were apprehended.
“Luck ran out of the syndicate as confusion broke out at a bus-stop among them leading to arguments, which attracted the attention of police operatives.”
He said the police team observed that Ejike and Joy were up to a nefarious act and on further interrogation they revealed their mission.
The spokesperson said “the other group billed for Abakiliki church prophecy were trailed and nabbed at P&T bus stop while waiting for bus to Abakaliki’’.
Mr. Amaraizu said one of the suspects, Uchechi, maintained that they were recruited in large numbers and kept in a house in Onitsha, Anambra.
Uchechi, he said, maintained that they shuttle to various states to confirm prophecies for the purpose of winning souls for churches and were usually paid through their coordinator.
Mr. Amaraizu said Uchechi told the police that they could be detailed to go to any state but the phone number of the linkman in the church was usually provided to them.
The suspect added that the phone number would be for connectivity on arrival and that they usually dialogue with the pastor of the church on the shape the job would take.
He said they would divulge their names, nature of problem they have and other necessary information to the pastor.
“They will state information which is given to the pastor of the church for his guidance and during the prophetic hours they will be among the people with the said problem that will come out,’’ Uchechi revealed.
Uchechi said the pastor would prophesise and one of them would confirm that before the congregation after being touched and falling under “the anointing.”
“The pastor would proclaim the problem is all over and that she has received her healing.
“Some pastors use us to grow their church and we are paid later through our coordinator depending on your role,’’ Uchechi said.
Ejike also confirmed their illicit deal while maintaining that he works hand-in-hand with the coordinator.

PoliticsRekindling Hope In North-east Nigeria - FAO by phyllosilicate(op): 5:21pm On Aug 19, 2016
On this World Humanitarian Day, we remember our commitment to leave no one behind as we recognize our shared humanity. In North-East Nigeria, where many farming households have been unable to plant and harvest for up to three consecutive seasons, rapidly kickstarting food production and agricultural livelihoods is critical to reduce hunger and build self-sufficiency.
“FAO will draw from its’ experiences in many parts of Africa recently especially Central African Republic, South Sudan, the three Ebola ravaged countries of Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia and elsewhere to compliment government efforts to get people like Boli and thousands of others who lost their livelihoods to recover from the insurgency” , said Bukar Tijani, Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for Africa of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
‘They burnt my house, I fled my hometown and now I have to start all over again'
Boli is a young mother of three who fled her village near Wasaram, in Borno State, after a violent attack from Boko Haram. She recalls with sadness: ‘They burnt my house, I fled my hometown and now I have to start all over again'. She settled in the Kukareta informal Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp two years ago in Yobe State, where more than 10,000 displaced families currently live. The most vulnerable households among them received emergency agricultural support from FAO during the current rainy season.
This is the first time that Boli has had the chance to engage in farming activities since she arrived in the camp. Over the past two years, she was unable to buy seeds, a situation she had never had before. “The village head allowed me to cultivate one hectare of land, within 10 minute walk from the camp. I was so happy when I prepared the field!”
So far, Boli has had no income except the little money she earned by selling wood she collected in the area. And even with the support of some villagers who shared some food in the most trying times, she hardly managed to prepare more than one meal per day. “My husband left us only six months after we came here. He couldn’t stand to stay just doing nothing, and see us hungry. I am now alone with my three children”.
Boli received 18 kg of improved varieties of sorghum and cowpea seeds, and fertilizers. The harvest will start in end September, and is expected to cover the family food needs for up to ten months.
“Cowpea is a locally adapted and highly nutritious pulse, densely packed with proteins. It is an excellent complementary food for infants and young children,” explained Amadou Diop, FAO Emergency Response Officer. “It is also in high demand on local markets and farmers will even be able to sell part of what they grew to earn some money, buy other food items and diversify their diets.”
As Boli returns from the field at the end of the day, she shares her thoughts about what the future holds: “I got some news from my village. Fighting is still going on. But when the situation improves, I want to go back there and restart my life. I am back at work, I feel stronger now”.
