Hello house. Please help me make a choice of these cars. The car will primarily be used within the city - to office, to church activities, school runs and them occasional inter state travels (from South-West to South East). Important to me is fuel efficiency (in this period of deregulation, who knows fuel may still rise to N200/litre ), stiff suspensions as it will be doing inter state once in a while with loads(mostly family things), enough space and leg room at the back (can contain 4 children of ages 7-13 on a long trip) and then low maintainability (not so expensive parts). I have narrowed down my search to the following:1. Toyota Matrix [2005/2006] 2. Toyota Avensis saloon [2005/2006] 3. Toyota Camry [2005/2006] 4. Toyota Corolla Verso Auto [2005/2006] - I hear this model comes with CVT transmission which develops problem easily and difficult to maintain. i wouldn't know how true this is. I will really appreciate your kind assistance on this. |
Hello house. I have 3 questions: 1. Is Toyota Avensis 2004-2006 with 1.8L engine underpowered? 2. How can one raise the ground level of the avensis a bit without affecting the stability of the car 3. How can you compare the Avensis (1.8L engine) with Camry 2005-2006 (2.4L engine) in terms of durability and cost of parts. Thank you all. |
tosheeba:Thank you for the information. |
Hello everyone. I was on a site to order a vehicle and then i was presented an option for port of entry to Nigeria. There are 3 ports listed for Lagos namely Lagos Port, Tincan Island Port and Apapa Port so i got confused. To make the matter worse, the cost of shipping to the ports differ. Below is the picture of the options. First, are there actually 3 ports in Lagos? Please which is the correct port to ship vehicles? Does the cost of clearance same in all these ports? If not which is the cheapest? Thanks for your anticipated help.

Exponental:Do you mind sharing with us the type of car you converted, how long you have being using it after the conversion and the contact of the person that did it for you. Thanks in advance |
HeavenlyBang:Please can explain more the bolded part of the sentence? |
Hello. I just stumbled on this thread. Does the cost of shipping included in the price? If No, then what's the shipping cost of 2005 or 2006 model? If you offer clearing at the port, how much would that cost for same model? Thank you. |
Hello everyone. I have seen post where people claim that at high RPMs the car consume a lot of fuel. I also heard someone said that fuel consumption is closely related to driving habit. Now I feel unless someone want to enter the high way and be driving at 80km/hr then you can be driving at 2000 - 25000 RPM. To be moving at 120km/hr to 140km/hr one will be doing it at higher RPMs say 3500-4000. Please I need gurus in the house to help me understand the relationship between fuel economy, RPM and possibly the size of the engine. All contributions will be highly appreciated. |
DonnyE:All the three are good cars, it all depends on what you want or your priority. Lexus ES330 is a luxury car with 3.0L or 3.3L engine. Consumes more fuel than the other two, parts more pricey than the other 2. However it produces more power and has more facilities. Choose this if you are looking for that extra luxury in a car and if you really do not bother about the fuel consumption and cost of parts. Corolla 2005 need no introduction. The smallest of the 3 with a 1.8L engine. Choose Corolla if you do not mind the size and if fuel consumption is an issue for you as it's the most fuel efficient of the 3. Parts are readily available as the other 2 and relatively cheaper than Lexus. Camry 2005 is another good car with a 2.4L engine. The interior design is bland and very roomy. It has a massive boot space. Cost of parts should be at par with corolla but less expensive than Lexus. The engine need to be taking care of to avoid sludge. Choose this if you need a more roomy 4 cylinder car with relatively good fuel economy and you do not mind the bland nature of the interior. Over to you ! |
Evathyst:Avalon usee a 6 cylinder engine and more expensive to maintain than the Civic and Camry. From the 3 cars, Honda Civic wins. It's more fuel efficient, does not have ball joint issue, relatively durable. If you want o buy Camry then avoid 2007-2009 models. Buy 2010 model, might be a little more than your budget though. |
kolagbemi:That dealer encouraging you to buy Camry 07-09 for Uber/Bolt does not like you. 1. Camry 07-09 2.4L engine has a problem of excessive oil consumption and other issues. Infact you can research about it online, if you can avoid those model years. 2. The automatic transmission can easily develop problem and it's very pricey. I will advice you completely stay away from Camry 2007 - 2009. Lexus E350 is a luxury car with a V6 engine. Its fuel thirsty and parts are expensive. For that kind of business, you need a car that is very durable and has good fuel economy. I will personally recommend the following based on your budget of 1.6m-1.8m: 1. Toyota Corolla 06-07 2. Toyota Camry 06 3. Honda Civic 07 (plz avoid Civic 06) 4. Toyota Matrix XR 06 FWD 5. Hyundai Elantra 08-10 (2.0L US version Only) All the best bro |
darkgoddes:You will be better of with 2005 or 2006 model. 5-speed Auto transmission, radio volume control on the steering wheel, side or curtain airbags (optional though), head rest for middle back seat, etc. |
Can one use Camry 2004-2006 a.k.a Big Daddy for Uber considering that it uses 2.4L engine? Is it that fuel efficient when compared to Corolla with 1.8L and Civic with 1.6/1.7L engine? Just curious to know |

Hello @naijacarz How does this work exactly? Few of the cars you posted have price tags while majority does not. The ones with price tag, does it include purchase, shipping n clearing? The ones without price tag, how do I know how much is d cost? How much is to ship n clear? You have some really good rides |
What the state of d engine? AC? |
Still available? |
Please kindly help out with the cost of clearing these vehicles: 1. Toyota Picnic 1999-2000 (RHD) 2. Toyota Avensis Verso 2003 - 2005 (RHD) Thanks. |
erico2k2:Thanks for the response. I have really learnt so much about cars on this forum. Please how much do you think it will cost for TOTAL CONVERSION of the Avensis Verso with Auto Transmission? How do i know if they have replaced the heater matrix with a LHD one or converted the RHD one to LHD? One cannot be there all the conversion process. The Tofa, can he be trusted, at least to a reasonable degree? Thanks for your |
@erico2k2 I need your help. Can these vehicles be successfully converted without issues: 1. Toyota Avensis Verso 2003-2006 2. Toyota Corolla Verso 2004-2006 I learnt converted cars will always have AC issues. How true is this? What are the risks in converting d above cars? Thank you very much |
The Ikenga was already being used by the Police in Anambra State as part of d vehicles donated by d Gov to NPF. Why are they just "releasing" it months after it started plying the roads. No interior pictures of the vehicles. |
nurey:Thank you very much @nurey. You are doing a wonderful job here. I also observed than Avensis Verso has rear AC vent which I consider a plus unlike Picnic that does not have. Does the verso engine any peculiar problem, that's 1AZ-FE engine? |
Please experts help mr compare these vehicles: 1. Toyota Avensis Verso 2003 2. Mazda 5 2007 or 2008 3. Toyota Picnic 2000 The vehicle will be for family use with occasional long distance travels. The comparison will be in terms of: 1. Durability n reliability 2. Cost and availability of parts. Can I easily get the parts when the need arises irrespective of location? 3. Fuel economy as d vehicle will be used mostly within town. 4. Comfortability especially with children on board Thanks |
theoilguy:If it's meant to be used for as high as 15,000 miles before oil change, then it must go with a very good oil filter that can as well last that long without impacting on the engine. I will suggest you include quality oil filters to go with d engine oil. |
What's the difference between Extended Performance oil and regular oil? I have seen Mobil 1 5w30 but yours is Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30. |
Hello @lade007. Please how much is 2000 Toyota Picnic Auto and 2003 Toyota Avensis Verso Auto? Cost of clearing inclusive. Thank you. |
This has been an age long debate over which of the two automakers produces better vehicles. Well, there is no straight answer to this but depending on what you are looking for, the following might help in addition to what others have said. I have used Toyota car and now Honda, here below are my opinion about the two: 1. Engine - Honda wins. Most Honda engines are stronger and more durable. A Toyota user is more likely to change the engine of the car before a Honda user if the two vehicles are properly maintained. However, this is not to say that Toyota engines are bad just that Honda edges it here. 2. Interior Design and Aesthetics - Again Honda wins. Honda vehicles are very beautify and alluring. They have fantastic dashboards with user friendly controls. Toyota on the other hand has very poor interior and bland dashboards with very few controls, mostly the most basics that will help you drive the car, use the AC. Compare Honda Civic 2006 and Toyota Corolla 2006. Also compare Honda Accord 2010 and Toyota Camry 2010. Another example, a 1996 Honda car has cruise control as default while a 2003 Toyota car does not even have a cruise control. Look at a Honda vehicle dashboard at night and the illumination will wow you as compared to most Toyota cars. 3. Automatic Transmission - Toyota wins. Most Toyota vehicles have a very rugged auto transmission that can last for a long time. The probability of a Honda user changing transmission or having transmission issues is higher than a Toyota user. 4. Durability - Toyota wins. Most Toyota vehicles are more durable and rugged than most Honda vehicles. Toyota vehicles are built to last longer without breaking down and the issues that could breakdown without prior notice are more in Honda. The probability of the vehicle breaking down is more with Honda vehicles. It doesn't mean Toyota cars don't breakdown but with Honda, it is more considering also the nature of roads in Nigeria. If you use Honda mostly places with good roads then you will NOT see this as an issue. Toyota vehicles are used mainly for public transport because its very durable couple with the fact that majority of our roads are in a sorry state. 5. Resale Value - Again Toyota wins. Toyota vehicles in this part of the world has a higher resale value probably because of it durability. I bought my first Toyota Nigeria car, used it for 9 years and sold it almost the price i bought it 9 years ago without stress because i had many people wanting to buy it. The same cannot be said of most Honda cars. People value Toyota cars more than Honda cars if you want to resale and also its easier to sell off your Toyota car. 6. Cost of Spare Parts - Toyota marginally wins. The cost of Toyota parts is marginally cheaper than Honda parts for most model of vehicles. Both are very available in the market but you are more likely to spend more to buy Honda part than Toyota parts for similar model and year of cars. Conclusion - Both Toyota and Honda cars are good each with it pros and cons with respect to a particular model and year. For example, Toyota RAV4 2000-2003 are prone to ECU issues while Honda CRV, a competing model does not have such issues. The question is what is your priority in a car? secondly where do you intend to mostly use the car? If you want to mostly use the car to travel especially interstate in Nigeria then stay away from Honda. If you value beautiful interior design with state of the arts controls then stay away from Toyota cars. My humble submission. |
prof2007:I have used both and I thing the above analysis is the most comprehensive and u biased comparison. |
