Ebonyi Community Rejects Imposition By Council Chairman, Insists on Interim Exco



The people of the Amudo Community in the Ezza South Local Government area of Ebonyi State have staged a protest against what they described as an attempt by the Council Chairman, Mrs Euphemia Nwali, to continue to impose an unpopular person on them as the President of the Community's town Union.

The people who took the protests to Ezza South LGA headquarters on Monday vehemently rejected the move, and maintained that the 7-man interim executive led by retired captain Tiger Njoku Aloysius remains the authentic, generally recognized and accepted town Union leadership of Amudo Community.

In a viral video of the protests seen by our Reporter, the People maintained that one Mr. Emeka Iburu Ezeabata, who is alleged to be favored by the Ezza South LGA Council Chairman, Mrs. Euphemia Nwali, had been unanimously removed as Caretaker President of Amudo Town Union by the entire of people of the Community and cannot continue to impose himself through the backing of the Council Chairman on the people that have rejected him.

Giving insight on the reason for the protest, Chief David Elom, who's the interim Secretary of Amudo Town Union, told journalists that the leadership of the union was dissolved sometime in 2022 by the former Council Chairman, Sen. Kenneth Eze, who appointed Mr. Emeka Iburu Ezeabata as a Caretaker President of the Town Union with a charge to conduct an election of the town Union within three months of his appointment.

"Unfortunately, from that time up till now, he has not been able to conduct the election, neither did he draft the Constitution that he was directed to do on behalf of the community; all those appointed to work with him declined on the grounds that Emeka has no capacity to be a town Chairman," Elom said.

According to him, those appointed with Mr. Iburu included a former permanent secretary, Dr. Emma Nwafor; a former village chairman, Hon. Abraham Ezaka; and others, who declined to work with him as they maintained that he does not have a decent character to be the town union President of the Community .

"Since then till now, there has been a crisis in the community that has led to vandalization, intimidation, and harassment of people courtesy of the same man.

"By last December, the stakeholders of the community returned from home and abroad and evaluated the critical issues that affect the community and discovered that there's a need for them to have a functional town union leadership, and that is why they now asked the man to now step aside since he's working alone without executives,"he said.

Chief Elom further revealed that the stakeholders consequently appointed a 7-man interim executive to manage the Amudo Town Union and were respectively introduced to the elders of the community in a well-attended meeting, led by the eldest man in the community, Chief Nwigbere Agba.

"They all affirmed the decision of the stakeholders, and that decision was communicated to the Divisional Police Headquarters, the DSS, and the local government chairman," Elom added.

However, he explained that while the DSS and police had acknowledged the letters of recognition of the interim executives, the council chairman, Mrs. Euphemia Nwali, rejected it, insisting that the sole administrator they appointed 2 years ago (Mr. Emeka Iburu Ezeabata) continues, despite the crisis in the community.

Elom called on Mr. Emeka Iburu Ezeabata to stop forcing himself to lead the people as he's been rejected by the community and urged the council chairman, Mrs. Euphemia Nwali, to focus on the administration of local government affairs and not impose leadership on a community.

"Emeka Iburu Ezeabata should know that he can't force himself to lead the people; it is the people that will invite you to lead them. The people have rejected him; currently he doesn't live in the village, and since the people have rejected him, it's better he steps aside and allow peace to reign.

"On the 15th of December 2024, we had a meeting with the Principal Secretary to the Governor, and he told the Local Government Chairman categorically that the duty of the local government chairman is limited with the administration.That they should not meddle into the affairs of the community, the community should take decisions and write to the Council Chairman to observe and not to impose leaders on them.

"Therefore, the local government Chairman should concentrate on the administration of the local government and not on the issue of the town union,"he stated.

PDP nominates Chidiebere Egwu to replace Odefa as Southeast national vice chairman

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State has nominated the zonal youth leader of the party, Chidiebere Egwu, as the replacement for the expelled former southeast national vice chairman, Ali Odefa.

The party stated this in a letter addressed to the acting national chairman, Alhaji Illiya Damagun, and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara.

It based the nomination of Mr. Egwu on the expulsion of Mr. Ali Odefa due to alleged anti-party activities.

Recall that a Federal High Court sitting in Abakaliki upheld the initial suspension of Mr. Odefa by the ward executives of PDP Oguduokwor Ward in Onicha LGA.

Consequent to his earlier suspension, the Oguduokwor Ward Disciplinary Committee, after hearing the allegations levelled against Mr. Odefa, recommended the expulsion of the former Zonal Chairman.

Subsequently, on 12th December 2024, the Executives of PDP Oguduokwor Ward announced the summary expulsion of Mr. Odefa.

PDP leaders in Ebonyi State unanimously endorsed the replacement of Mr. Odefa.

Among the signatories are Chief Onwe S. Onwe, former Acting National Secretary; Senator Paulinus Igwe Nwagu, the 2023 Deputy Governorship Candidate; John Igboke, a former Deputy National Youth Leader; and Paul Okorie, a former governorship aspirant.

Others include Austin Edeze, a former governorship aspirant and Director-General of the 2023 PDP Governorship Campaign Council, as well as all the National Assembly and House of Assembly candidates of the PDP in the 2023 general elections, alongside other high-ranking party members.

Over 1000 women and youths of Amudo community in Ezza South local government Area of Ebonyi state on Saturday protested around the community over the arrest of their sons by self acclaimed billionaire Chief Chibuike Orugwu popularly know as Baby Oku.

The women alleged incessant arrest in the village by Baby Oku and further alleged that three of their sons where arrested during the festive period and taken to unknown place.

According to them those arrested were the Youth President Mr. Chinedu Uguta, the his Deputy Mr. Paul Chukwu and his Personal Assistant Mr. Amechi Nweke.

The women, youths including their family members have gathered in Amudo Community to say NO and place a condemnation to the high handedness of BABY OKU and the atrocities he is causing in Amudo Community.

The protester were carrying placards with the following inscriptions, Baby Oku release our Children, Son, Husband and Brothers from unknown place. Baby Oku has destroyed Amudo. Enough of Baby Oku's rascality. Baby Oku allow Amudo to breathe. Say no to Baby Oku' suppression. Stop infringing on Amudo people's fundamental human rights.

Our Correspondent gathered that the Chief Orugwu want to single handly install their new traditional ruler and even dissolved the town Union executive which the community rejected.

A source said that Baby Oku started arresting and harassing anyone that goes contrary to his wish thinking that he will use his money to achieve it.

"We have told him that he cannot impose any candidate on the community even with his money, let him release those he arrested" the Source said.

Speaking on behalf of the protester, Mrs. Veronica Nwite said the protest was to demand urgent release our children he took to unknown destination.

She also said their children are running out of the community because of fear of being arrested by so call Baby Oku.

We are also calling all relevant authorities to call Baby Oku to order because he is not bigger than the community.

"We no longer sleep in our homes and we want government to intervene by immediate release of our children who had been in detention" She said.

The Chairman of Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi Mrs. Euphemia Nwali has presented budget estimate of Nine billion two hundred and thirty five million four hundred and fifty nine thousand three hundred and ninety eight naira fifty six kobo (N9,235,459,398.56) for the 2025 fiscal year.

Presenting the budget estimate to the local government Legislative council for approval at Local Government Headquaters at Onueke Mrs. Nwali said that this year budget tacked Budget of Unity is bigger that the previous year.

The Chairman noted that budget will look into critical sectors like Infrastructure, health, education, empowerment and others.

The breakdown of the budget showed that Personnel cost General is N3,876,954,955.65 Personnel Cost N3,042,331,172.66 and Overhead Cost N834,623,783.32 and Capital Expenditure is N4,974,953,359.92 bringing it to total to N9,235,459,398.56

She explained that this year budget aroused due to inclusion of Development Centers based on the law we have which stipulate that DCs will have percentage of the budget adding DCs will be doing empowerment, contracts and other projects.

She urged the House to approve the budget adding that She will supervise what all the DCs are doing and how they are implementing the budget to make sure the projects cut across all the communities.

The Chairman further stated that the year under review she was able to put some projects on ground which includes installation of transformers, installation of solar street lights, empowerment, roads construction, water projects, Distribution of over 80 Vehicles to vice Chairman, Councilors, Youths and Stakeholders and many others.

Nwali thanked all the counsellors for their supports noting that this year budget contained projects to all the communities.

The High Court Enugu Division has restricted the sacked National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Samuel Anyanwu from parading himself as the party's scribe, failure of which he would land himself in prison.

The order contained in judgement delivered by the presiding Judge C.O. Ajah, PhD ordered that: "unless you (Anyanwu) obey the directions contained in this Order, you will be guilty of Contempt of Court and will be liable to be committed to prison."

The judgement sighted by journalists is sequel to the case filed by Emmanuel Aniagu (plaintiff) with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), PDP Acting National Chairman, Iliya Umar Damagun, Anyanwu and PDP National Vice Chairman, Southeast, Ali Odefa as defendants.

The Court ordered that: "the 3rd Defendant(Anyanwu) was elected National Secretary of the 1st Defendant (PDP) in 2021 and has remained so till date, and as National Secretary, he is by the provisions of the 1st Defendant's Constitution as well as the Electoral Guidelines for Primary Elections of the 1st defendant made by the National Executive Committee of the 1st Defendant by dint of the provisions of S.31(20)(j) and 50(1) of the Constitution of 1st Defendant, 2017 and that he:

"(a) Draws up the list of members of the Gubernatorial Screening Committee for each of the six geo-political zones of the 1st Defendant in the country when decision on it is taken by the National Executive Committee.

"(b) Writes and signs, or causes to be written and signed letters to the individual members appointing them members of the Gubernatorial Screening Committee of the six geo-political zones of the party in the country from the list already prepared and signed by him.

"(c) Draws up the list of members of the Gubernatorial Screening Appeal Panel to handle Appeals from Gubernatorial Aspirants of the party in all States of the Federation when decision on the list taken by the National Executive Committee of the 1st Defendant.


"(d) Writes and signs or causes to be written and signed letters to individuals appointing them as such members of the Gubernatorial Screening Appeal Panel of the village.


"(e) Draws up the list of members of the State Gubernatorial Electoral Committee for each of the 36 States of the 1st Defendant in the federation when the decision of the said list is taken by the National Executive Committee of the 1st Defendant.

"(f) Writes and signs or causes to be written and signed letters to the individual members of the State Gubernatorial Electoral Committee appointing them as such members.

"(g) Writes and signs or causes to be written and signed letters to the individual members of the Gubernatorial Electoral Appeal _ Panel appointing them as such members when decision on the membership is made by the National Executive Committee of the 1st Defendant.

"That the 3rd Defendant has a lot of input to make in taking and implementing decisions on who will be adjudged eligible to contest the gubernatorial primaries, and who shall be enthroned as the gubernatorial standard bearer of the 1st Defendant in all the 36 States of the Federation.

"That the 3rd Defendant was elected in April, 2023 as the Gubernatorial Candidate of the 1st Defendant for the Imo State Governorship election billed for November, 2023 whilst the 3rd Defendant still doubles as the National Secretary of the 1st Defendant.

"That by occupying the two positions, the 3 Defendant made —himself a judge in his own cause.

"That the 3rd Defendant is hereby restrained forthwith from further parading himself as the National Secretary of the 1st Defendant having relinquished the said position by conduct.

"That the 2nd Defendant is hereby ordered to recognize in all situations, for all purposes, and in every manner necessary, including swearing in, Hon. S. K. E. Udeh Okoye (the person recommended by the South East Zonal Executive Committee of the 1st Defendant) as the National Secretary of the 1st Defendant, to enable the said Hon. S. K. E. Udeh Okoye to serve out the time left in the tenure for which the 3rd Defendant was elected as National Secretary in 2021."

Political parties in Nigeria have kicked against Mozambique's opposition leaders who are behind the crisis rocking the Southern African country, describing them as terrorists disguising as politicians by their decision to instigate bloody political crisis that have seen over 100 killed.

The parties under the umbrella of Conference of National Chairmen of Political Parties have declared the Mozambique opposition leader, Venâncio Mondlane persona non grata.

In a petition sent to petition all world bodies, the Conference of National Chairmen of Political Parties have demanded global action against Venâncio Mondlane and his cohorts.

A copy of the petition signed by Chief Kenneth Udeze Action Alliance Party National Chairman, Hon. Umar Muhammed YP Party Chairman, Uche Nnadi Action Party , Maxwel Mgbudem Accord Party Chairman, Hon. Ude Nrm Party etc addressed to USA President, President elect , AU, EU, ICC, UN, Kaja Kallas, Vice-President of the European Commission, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security obtained by newsmen also fingered/accused President Filipe Nyusi of complicity in the country's political turmoil.

It reads: Dear High Representative, I write to draw urgent attention to the actions of President Filipe Nyusi, whose refusal to ensure a smooth political transfer of power to President-elect Daniel Chapo is exacerbating Mozambique’s already precarious political crisis.

"While much of the unrest has been attributed to the opposition leader Venâncio Mondlane, it is increasingly evident that Nyusi’s deliberate maneuvers to destabilize the situation are undermining Mozambique’s democracy and threatening its long-term stability.

"The peaceful transfer of power is a cornerstone of any functioning democracy, yet Nyusi has failed to uphold this principle. By stoking unrest and creating an atmosphere of chaos, he has cast doubt on the integrity of Mozambique’s political system and undermined the will of the people as expressed in the October 2024 presidential election.

"Rather than acting as a stabilising force during this critical transition, President Nyusi has engaged in actions that appear calculated to derail the process. Reports suggest that he has authorised the release of thousands of prisoners, including violent offenders and convicted murderers, from Mozambique’s jails.

"This reckless decision has directly contributed to the unrest, as many of these individuals have joined ongoing riots, attacked state institutions, and terrorized civilians.This strategy appears aimed at fostering an environment of fear and disorder, creating a pretext for Nyusi to cling to power under the guise of restoring stability.

"Such behavior not only betrays the democratic principles that should guide Mozambique’s leadership but also endangers the country’s fragile peace and security.

"President Nyusi’s tenure has been marred by allegations of corruption, inefficiency, and autocratic tendencies. The 2016 “hidden debts” scandal, involving $2 billion in fraudulent loans linked to his administration, plunged Mozambique into an economic crisis and eroded trust in his leadership.

"Over the years, his government has faced criticism for suppressing dissent, limiting press freedoms, and prioritizing personal power over national progress. As his term nears its end, Nyusi’s refusal to facilitate a peaceful handover to President-elect Chapo risks turning Mozambique into a cautionary tale of democratic backsliding.

"His actions mirror a troubling trend seen in some parts of Africa, where outgoing leaders exploit instability to extend their rule or maintain influence beyond their mandate.

"The Constitutional Council’s confirmation of Daniel Chapo’s victory should have paved the way for a peaceful transfer of power, allowing Mozambique to refocus on critical issues such as economic recovery, governance reforms, and social development.

"Instead, Nyusi’s actions are creating obstacles to this transition, deepening divisions within the country and sowing distrust among citizens and international observers alike.The international community must send a clear message: the peaceful transfer of power is not optional.

"By failing to facilitate a smooth transition, Nyusi is not only defying the democratic will of the Mozambican people but also jeopardizing the stability of southern Africa as a whole.

"The toll of the ongoing crisis is staggering. Over 130 people have been killed, thousands injured, and many more displaced from their homes. Public infrastructure has been destroyed, businesses have been forced to close, and key sectors of the economy — particularly mining — have been paralyzed.Mozambique’s status as a major supplier of critical minerals, such as lithium and cobalt, has made it an essential player in global supply chains.

"The unrest has disrupted mining operations, diminished investor confidence, and triggered economic ripples that extend far beyond Mozambique’s borders.

"In light of these alarming developments, we urge the European Union to take the following actions to ensure a peaceful transition of power and hold President Nyusi accountable for his actions: Demand that President Nyusi facilitate a smooth and immediate transition to President-elect Chapo, in line with Mozambique’s constitutional framework.

"Investigate Nyusi’s decision to release prisoners, ensuring transparency and accountability for actions that have directly fueled unrest and endangered civilians.

"Impose targeted sanctions on Nyusi and his close allies, signaling that the international community will not tolerate actions that undermine democracy and stability.

"Press for international oversight of Mozambique’s transition process to ensure that democratic norms are upheld and that power is transferred without further delay or disruption.

"Engage the African Union and SADC to mediate the transition and provide support for Mozambique during this critical period.

"Mozambique’s future hangs in the balance, and the actions of President Nyusi threaten to derail the democratic gains the country has achieved over the past three decades. The European Union, as a champion of democracy and human rights, has a critical role to play in ensuring that Mozambique’s political transition is completed peacefully and that those responsible for stoking unrest are held to account.

"The peaceful transfer of power is not just a matter of protocol; it is the foundation of a stable and prosperous Mozambique. We respectfully urge the European Union to act decisively in defense of democracy and to support the Mozambican people in their pursuit of peace, stability, and progress..

No fewer than 15 Nigeria federal lawmakers have moved against Mozambique opposition leaders, superintended by Venâncio Mondlane for sponsoring terrorism and burning of public infrastructure in the name of politics.

It will be recalled that, following the controversial October 9, 2024 elections, which were contested over allegations of fraud, Mondlane and his lieutenants have reportedly escalated the situation by championing violence and civil disobedience which culminated into the death of 100 people.

With no end in sight, the 15 Nigerian lawmakers have petitioned the European Union (EU), United Nations (UN) and African Union (AU),US Govt, etc seeking their intervention in the political crisis which threatened democracy on the African continent.

The petition titled; "Mozambique’s Crisis: The Role of Opposition in Fueling Chaos Requires Firm global Action," is addressed to Kaja Kallas, Vice-President of the European Commission, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security, US President, Secretary of State, US Congress, British Prime Minister , UN Secretary General, US Secretary for Africa Affairs, AU Commission, International criminal court etc

The lawmakers led by Hon.Peter Aniekwe in their petition signed by over 15 Federal Lawmakers include: Hon. Lukman Mudashiru, Hon. Joshua Gana Audu, Hon.Nnamdi Ezechi, Hon.Mathew Nwaogu, Hon. Idu Emeka, Hon. mustapha Aliyu.

Others are: Hon. Adepoju Anthony, Paul Gowan, Hon. Umar yabo yusuf, Hon. Afam Ogene, Hon. Gwacham maureen, Hon. Sunday Umeahia, Hon. Chimaobi Atu, Hon. Ngozi Okoli, etc condemned the Mozambique’s opposition resort to bloody violence and destruction that have seen over 100 persons dead and urged decisive EU Action towards ending the impasse and restoring normalcy in the African country.

It reads: ", We write to you with deep concern over the escalating crisis in Mozambique, a nation that now teeters on the brink of total collapse due to the reckless actions of desperate politicians.

"The fallout from the October 2024 presidential election, which saw Daniel Chapo of the Frelimo party decisively elected with 65% of the vote, has been exploited by Venâncio Mondlane to incite violence and destabilize the country.

"The Constitutional Council’s December 23 ruling, which affirmed the election’s legitimacy, should have marked the end of this contest. Instead, it has become a flashpoint for unrest orchestrated by Podemos, Mondlane’s party.

"The opposition’s refusal to accept the outcome and its subsequent calls for bloody mass protests have spiraled into widespread violence. Over 130 lives have been lost, with property and infrastructure destroyed, leaving Mozambique’s economy — already battered by Cyclone Chido — facing further devastation.

Tracing the historical context and legacy of instability, the petitioners stated that: "Mozambique’s political history has been marked by a struggle to consolidate peace and democracy following the civil war that ended in 1992. The Frelimo party, which has governed since independence, has faced repeated challenges from opposition groups.

"While disagreements and disputes have been part of the democratic process, Mondlane’s refusal to use legal mechanisms to address grievances represents a dangerous departure from democratic norms. This is not the first time opposition forces have rejected election results in Mozambique, but the scale and intensity of the violence today are unprecedented.

"Mondlane’s declaration that he intends to install himself as president on January 15 is a stark reminder of the dangers of unchecked political ambition. His rhetoric and actions set a precedent that risks undermining the fragile democratic institutions that Mozambique has worked so hard to build."

On the role of the opposition in instigating violence, they said: "What makes the current unrest particularly troubling is the deliberate manner in which the opposition has incited violence. Mondlane has leveraged widespread discontent, particularly among young Mozambicans, to mobilize protests that quickly escalated into riots.

"Public infrastructure, businesses, and even government facilities have been targeted, with reports of arson, looting, and attacks on state officials.The opposition’s actions are not only reckless but calculated.

"Mondlane’s repeated calls for his supporters to “bring the government to its knees” have emboldened extremist elements within his party. This is not the behavior of a democratic leader seeking reform — it is the behavior of a politician willing to sacrifice the nation’s stability for personal gain."

Noting the economic and global implications of the imbroglio, the lawmakers informed that: "Mozambique’s position as a key supplier of critical minerals, including lithium and cobalt, amplifies the global significance of this crisis.

"Multinational corporations like South32 Ltd. have already suspended operations, and trade corridors with neighboring South Africa have faced closures.

"These disruptions threaten global supply chains for renewable energy technologies and electric vehicles.

"The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has downgraded Mozambique’s growth forecast for 2024, citing political instability as a primary driver. This economic downturn will further impoverish a population already reeling from natural disasters and inequality."

They recommended that: "Given the severity of the crisis, We urge the European Union ,all global bodies and leaders to take immediate and decisive steps to hold Venâncio led opposition accountable:

"1. Impose targeted sanctions on Venâncio Mondlane and other opposition leaders responsible for inciting violence.

2. Support an ICC investigation into potential crimes against humanity linked to Venâncio opposition-led unrest.

3. Assist the Mozambican government in restoring order, including technical support to strengthen institutions and promote peace.

4. Encourage dialogue between the government and opposition to address legitimate grievances within the bounds of the law.

"The European Union, UN, USA and other global bodies have long championed democracy and stability in Africa. Mozambique now stands as a test of the intl communities commitment to these principles. By taking swift and meaningful action, the intl communities can help restore peace and safeguard the democratic progress Mozambique has achieved over the decades."

In celebration of New year, The Deputy National Chairman of the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) Prince Nwaeze Onu, has greeted Ebonyians and indeed all Nigerians

Prince Onu in his New Year message urged Nigerians to be hopeful as the only gateway to overcome the hardship in the country saying that the new year will bring resurgence. He called for unity as that according to him is the panacea for progress.

Speaking on the governance in the country, Pince Onu said the government of the day have to reverse some of her policies to make positive impact on Nigerians and offer them hope to succeed in their endeavors.

"The President has to urgently halt the tax reform bill before the National assembly considering the precarious state of the economy today and how people pay through their nose for daily bread. The tax reform bill should be dropped and let they be wider consultation of the stakeholders"

He condemned attempt by the All Progressive Congress(APC) controlled federal government to stifle opposition political parties in the country mentioning that it is not healthy for democracy stressing for any ruling government to succeed, it needs a viable opposition to checkmate her policies and make valuable recommendations.

The NNPP chieftain appealed to the Ebonyi state Governor, Rt Hon Ogbonna Nwifuru to work on sustaining a functional educational system as the foundation has been led by previous administrations and should as well deploy modern approaches to governance so that his policies can be far reaching and impactful on the lives of citizens of the state.

"There's need to reduce cost of governance in the state, the funds coming into the state from the federation account has improved. Instead of channeling it in the purchase of exotic vehicles, it should be used to sustain a functional educational system like the Dr sam Egwu's administration did"

Linus Obeji, has attributed the company's achievements so far to Governor Nwifuru's executive order, which has allowed them to operate as an independent, incorporated entity. 

According to Hon. Obeji, who was engaged in a media chat with journalists in the Abakaliki rice mill industry, the current administration of Governor Nwifuru has not only provided credit facilities to its members alone but has also ensured that there's peaceful coexistence among mill owners, as well as allowed members to choose their leaders independently. 

"We have enjoyed the administration of the current government, unlike before, when the government would come and impose leadership. Today, His Excellency, Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has allowed us the opportunity to govern ourselves as a cooperated body, because this is a cooperated entity under the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). 

"Today, we are managing ourselves because the governor has said that we are an independent body and the owners of this business; hence we should manage ourselves in peace, and that is a wonderful achievement in this administration because there's no more leadership tussle but peaceful coexistence." Obeji said. 

Issues with under-measurements;

In a view of the company's achievements in the year 2024, Hon. Obeji enumerated various areas that include but are not limited to success recorded in the handling of fraudulent activities involving the use of scale measurement to shortchange customers. 

He said that since the inception of his tenure as the rice mill chairman, customers have enjoyed the value of their money by getting a full delivery of their goods without shortage, accrediting the success to Governor Nwifuru, who had insisted that the company return to the use of their bushels for measurement. 

"Immediately he came into office, he intervened in the Abakaliki rice mill industry; the peace and many other credible practices in the rice mill today are because he has issued an executive order that anyone who engages in undermeasurement in the Abakaliki rice mill shall be persecuted and made to suffer the consequences. 

"And since then, nobody has cried out over shortchanges, unlike before, when you will be hearing of under measurement in the Abakaliki rice mill, and by the special grace of God, I will accredit that to His Excellency, who is a great builder, R. T. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru." He stated. 

Migration from processing to production; 

The chairman, who informed journalists that the company has migrated from an ordinary processing company to a producing company, said the cooperation between the farmers and the mill owners has enabled them to provide credit facilities to farmers, who then produce and return to process the product at the mill to yield more profits for the business. 

Security and Social Infrastructure;

According to Hon. Obeji, for the first time in the history of the Abakaliki rice mill industry, his administration has constructed 15 bedroom toilets and bathrooms for workers and customers, as well as provided a canteen for individuals to eat good food within its premises. 

Also, the provision of a police post in the company is a maiden, which has helped to curb crime such as theft, among other vices in the company. He added that barricades within lines A, B, and C have been removed to allow trucks to gain access through the company with the rehabilitation of road networks across the mill. 

Speaking of prospect, he said,

"With the way we are going in the Abakaliki rice mill industry, we are going to represent what Ukraine is to the world in terms of grain production. The Abakaliki rice mill industry would eventually become the Ukraine of Africa because we have the capacity to feed the entire country. 

"We have also engaged with the government to enable us to engage in all-round farming, and they have promised to help us venture into irrigation farming, and with that, the Abakaliki rice mill industry will occupy a large space in terms of food supply, not only in Nigeria but in all of Africa. 

"Before now, we used to export the rice to Niger, Chad, and Cameroon. With the help of the government, we would be able to produce more and generate more revenue because most of us working here are all graduates and well established to employ others." He said.

The Facts of the Property Acquisition
I, Rebecca Omokamo Godwin-Isaac, known as Hajiya Bilkisu Ishaku Aliyu, I am a realtor, who entered into this transaction not as a realtor but as a person who desire a place to live with my family and as such entered into this property purchase in good faith with one Mr. Richard Idakwogi John, the CEO and Managing Director of Rychado Homes Limited. Having done business with Mr. Richard for years, I had no reason to doubt his professionalism or integrity.

I trusted him completely when he presented me with original documents for the property—Plot 4022 in Guzape District, Abuja—and I proceeded to purchase it. I paid in full for the property, intending to create a home for myself and my family.

It was a dream come true for my husband, my children, and me when we moved into the property. It became our sanctuary, a place filled with love, joy, and the promise of a bright future.

However, despite my genuine intentions and the transparency of this transaction, the Yesufu family has continued to spread falsehoods and make defamatory claims against me, tarnishing my image and attempting to destroy everything I have worked so hard to build.

Mr. Richard himself has admitted in front of witnesses, including my colleague and business partner Ugochukwu Nnam, who is also a business partner to Mr. Richard, that I paid for the property in full. This admission was also made during meetings with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission

No one can truthfully claim that we have ever defrauded them. Over the years, I have built my integrity and credibility to the highest standard, and I stand firmly by my reputation.

Furthermore, neither I nor Homadil Realty Ltd has ever been allocated land. We do not have any insider connections or employees working at AGIS (Abuja Geographic Information System).

All the properties we own were purchased through legitimate means, backed by proper documentation and credible witnesses. These facts reflect the principles of transparency and fairness that I, my family, and my company uphold at all times.

My Efforts to Resolve the Dispute
Although I am an innocent party in this matter, I have taken proactive steps to resolve the dispute amicably.

Out of goodwill, I offered compensation to the Yesufu family, even though I bear no responsibility for the issues surrounding the property. Regrettably, these efforts were outrightly rejected.

Their refusal to engage in meaningful dialogue and their insistence on pursuing a campaign of harassment and defamation suggest that their intent is not justice but rather my personal and professional downfall.

The Role of the Yesufu Family
I am deeply saddened and troubled that members of the Yesufu family, who know the truth about this matter, have remained silent while Abdul Rahman Yesufu continues to lead a campaign of false allegations, harassment, and defamation against me, my company, and my family.

Among them are Isaiah Yesufu, Coleen Mero Yesufu, Maimunatu Yesufu, Nurudeen Yesufu, and Khadijah Iye Yesufu. Their silence in the face of this injustice is both heartbreaking and disappointing.

It is even more troubling that Abdul Rahman Yesufu has refused to attend EFCC meetings and interviews to address this matter. Only his brother, Isaiah Yesufu, showed up to these meetings, further emphasizing how Abdul Rahman is taking this issue personally and avoiding resolution.

Instead of engaging constructively or seeking the truth, he has resorted to posting malicious publications while hiding behind a façade of anonymity.

After his most recent defamatory publication on December 23, 2024, he fled to the United Kingdom, leaving behind a trail of hurt and damage. This is nothing short of cowardly behavior—refusing to face the issue, refusing to settle, and instead hiding while continuing to stir up trouble.

They know the truth, and so does he. Why would they stand by and watch as a fellow human being—a woman, a mother, and a hard-working entrepreneur—is subjected to such cruelty? Does Abdul Rahman Yesufu not have sisters or daughters? Would he allow anyone to treat them this way? Would the rest of the family watch in silence if the roles were reversed?

I appeal to their sense of justice and humanity. I urge them to reflect on their actions—or lack thereof—and the harm they are allowing to unfold. Let us act with fairness, compassion, and respect for the truth.

I appeal to the Yesufu family and all involved to respect the ongoing legal proceedings and refrain from actions that further harm me, my family, or my business. Given it's inaccessibility from most directions, the Igboetiti local government council in Enugu state has given priority to roads development and construction in its 2025 financial appropriation.

The council also said that it will emphasize education and transportation services through the establishment of Mass Transit scheme to ameliorate hardships that the people pass through in their movements and in evacuation of goods and services.

Presenting a "Budget of Economic Recovery and Good Governance," before the Council legislature, the Chairman of Igboetiti local government council, Dr. Eric Odo made a total estimate of N5.4 billion for the 2025 financial appropriation, noting that he hopes to generate N3 billion from Internally Generated Revenue, IGR.

From the estimate, N2.76 billion was devoted for capital expenditure, while N2.71 billion was earmarked for recurrent expenditure.

Odo stressed that the financial year will be an aggressive economic recovery that would reduce poverty, encourage youth employment and boost the revenue base of the council through investments in critical areas such as water provision, education and Mass transit scheme.

He also stated that the Information Communication Technology, ICT infrastructure will be upgraded in the council area to enable the youths have access to JAMB and WAEC examinations with the locality, devoting N25 million for education.

The budget further provides for establishment of Garri processing plants in all the 20 wards of the council area while over 40 boreholes would be rehabilitated and reticulated for portable water provision.

The budget would also provide desk, school uniform, sandals, socks and other writing materials for all public schools in the council.

The construction of 16.5KM Umuoka – Nkporogwu Ukehe – Ngele Okwete – Ugwuogo Nike road was given special provision with a total of N260 million provided for critical roads infrastructure of grading and laterization of community roads with the LGA.

Odo also made provisions for market developments, construction of bus stops in every community.

Receiving the appropriation bill, Leader of the council, Hon. Emeka Stephen, on behalf of the councillors promised to give the budget adequate attention and speedy passage.

The Appeal Court sitting in Enugu on Friday, sacked Sen. Samuel  Anyanwu as People’s Democratic Party National Secretary and declared Rt.Hon.Ude Okoye as the new national secretary of the party.

Okoye is to complete the remaining tenure created by the automatic vacancy in the office when sen. Samuel Anyanwu left as the national secretary to run for governorship.

The Appeal Court affirmed the Judgement of the High Court in Enugu which earlier on had sacked Anyawu as PDP Secretary and upheld the nomination by South East PDP Executives, which nominated Rt. Hon.Ude Okoye as replacement to Anyawu as PDP Secretary.

The Court in a lead Judgement delivered by Justice Ridwan Abdullahi described Anyawus claim to PDP secretaryship despite contesting ans emerging as PDP governorship candidate as a grave violation of the pdp constitution and declared that his Appeal against the lower court judgement lacked merit .

Reacting to the development, Opposition Lawmakers Coalition hailed the judgment as Dawn of a new era in pdp and end to the shameless politics of sabotage , betrayal, political materialism and sellout which Anyawu represented, Saying that the acting PDP chairman,  Umar Damagun who is in same shameless boat with Anyawu in the agenda to kill opposition is next.

In a statement signed by their spokesman,  Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, the lawmakers described the judgment as the beginning to the end of Damagun/Anyanwu’s evil politics against PDP.

"The law has said that you should resign. When you choose to run for the election, you have chosen to resign.

Nwifuru gave the advice on Thursday in Abakaliki at the occasion of the 2024 Youth Summit in the state tagged, "Purposeful Leadership Amongst the Youths for Nation Building."

It reported that the summit was organised by the "Francis Ogbonnaya Nwifuru (FON) Youth Movement."

The Governor, represented by Mr Richard Idike, State Commissioner for Sports described the youth as pertinent to nation building and urged them to say no to drug abuses and crime.

Nwifuru noted that the importance of the youths to socio-economic development could not be over-emphasised, stressing that his administration was committed to youths empowerment.

"Ebonyi and Nigeria youths are very resourceful set of the citizens and we will continue to engage them in the efforts to move the state and nation forward.

"I have initiated several programmes for the youth because they are very important segement of the society. I urge them to support our policies for better Ebonyi and Nigeria at large," the Governor advised.

Mr Peter Ogar, Commander, Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in the state, represented by the Assistant Commander, Lazarus Olatoru described drug abuses as "dangerous to human health and society."

Ogar said the Agency in the state had launched its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) at the grassroots levels.

He stressed the need for collaboration with various leaders in the state to educate the youths on the danger of drug abuse as future leaders of the nation.

According to him, drug abuse could lead to serious health challenges including stroke, mental disorder, depression, suicide, psychological trauma among others.

"I urge you, the youth to say no to drug abuses. illicit drugs and substances is dangerous to man's health," he advised.

The Commissioner of Police, Mrs Anthonia Uche-Anya, represented by Ekpeta James, Assistant Commissioner of police harped on the need to achieve free crime society.

Uche-Anya urged the youth to support government policies aimed at national development, especially on youths.

"We have a Governor as youth, and he will continue to engage you meaningfully. I urge you to make good use of what you have learnt from the summit for a better society," the Commissioner added.

"We urge all stakeholders in the democratic process, including civil society organisations, legal practitioners, and international observers, to monitor this situation closely.

"He was charged with treason, arson, subversion, criminal defamation, terrorism, murder, and all sorts of heinous crimes just to keep him from winning his election and speaking out, yet he won the election in absentia and thrashed all the fabricated charges and still speaking truth to power. If Ikenga was not cowed then he would not be cowed now. This plot is from the same textbook of intolerant dictators and, as usual, will fail.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Oguduokwor Ward in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has announced the expulsion of the suspended National Vice Chairman (NVC) of the party in the Southeast, Mr Ali Odefa from the party.

It recalls that Odefa was suspended from the party on September 11 by the Ward Executives of the party for his engagement in various anti party activities.

The Federal High Court sitting in Abakaliki while ruling on suit NO: FHC/AI/CS/182/2024 further affirmed the suspension on November 29, 2024.

Mr Onyeka Ovuta, announced the expulsion of Odefa during a press conference on Wednesday.

Ovuta noted that the suspension of the erstwhile NVC follows the recommendation of the Party’s disciplinary committee that affirmed the allegations of anti-party activities leveled.

According to the Chairman, the expulsion of Odefa follows the report, findings and recommendations of the Ward Disciplinary Committee of the party which is in line with the provisions of the party constitution.

The statement reads in part: “The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Oguduokowor Ward, Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State hereby announce the expulsion of Chief Ali Odefa, the suspended National Vice Chairman of the PDP, South East Zone from the party which takes immediate effect.

“The expulsion of Chief Ali Odefa follows the report, findings and recommendations of the Ward Disciplinary Committee of the party which is in line with the provisions of the party constitution.

“Recall that Chief Ali Odefa was suspended from the party by the Ward leadership on 11th September 2024.
“Consequent upon the judgement of the Federal High Court Abakaliki in suit number FHC/AI/CS/182/2024 which affirmed the suspension of Chief Ali Odefa, the Disciplinary Committee of PDP Oguduokwor Ward after their sittings on the above subject matter unanimously recommended that Chief Ali Odefa the Suspended PDP National Vice Chairman South East Zone be expelled from the party.

“The Executive Committee of PDP Oguduokwor Ward on 11th December 2024 after receiving the report, findings and recommendations of the Disciplinary Committee of PDP Oguduokwor Ward unanimously approved the expulsion of Chief Ali Odefa from the party which is compliance to section 58(1) and section 59(1) of the PDP constitution.

APP condemns plot by Pro-Wike to frame false charges against Chairman, others

The National Working Committee of the Action Peoples Party, APP one of the leading Opposition party in Nigeria/member of the Opposition coalition alliance has raised the alarm over a plot by persons alleged to be close to the FCT Minister working with some compromised security personnel to frame its National Chairman, Ochiagha Uche Nnadi, Opposition Spokesperson Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere with baseless fabricated allegations of Judicial corruption, treason, bribery of judicial officers and forgery.

In a statement issued in Abuja by the National Publicity Secretary, Mr Ugo Apu, the Party claimed it had intercepted credible intelligence that persons allegedly close to the FCT Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike, had brought some young men together who would claim they were close to the National Chairman ad were involved with him in committing acts of treason, bribing of judicial officers and forgery of court documents.

“Since the landslide victory of our Party in the Rivers State Local Government election, persons allegedly close to the FCT Minister instituted cases in Court seeking the deregistration of the APP.

"Having realised the futility of their cases, they have now resorted to the dark art of attempting to frame our National Chairman, and key Opposition voices to silence them and stop them from speaking out against their impunity in pdp, rivers state and fct land grabbing scandal ” the statement read.

Apu, therefore, called on Nigerians to be on the lookout for these tales by moonlight type of stories and their AI-enhanced evidence, which cannot amount to upturning the party's electoral successes at the Rivers State Local Government elections or stoping the opposition from insisting that the sacked 27 lawmakers remained sacked and that the president must order for audit of the ongoing land grabbing in fct to help save Nigerian democracy from destabilising .

“Some people are acting like they own Rivers State and fct . They have failed to come to terms with the fact that APP has won majority seats in the election. This onslaught will fail, and APP will continue as the fastest-growing political party in Nigeria,” the statement concluded

.... Prince Idikwu has been held incommunicado for four days without contact with his family.

The Initiative for Civil Values and Good Governance has raised the alarm and petitioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the Gestapo-style abduction of its Director General, Prince Anthony Idikwu, by a Joint Task Force (JTF) of the Police and DSS from his home in the Garki area of Abuja.

In a statement issued by the organisation on Monday, the Head of Administration, Mr Emmanuel Ogbogu, said, “Members of the task force arrived at Mr Tony’s home around 9:30 pm on Friday night and, without identifying themselves, broke down the door to his apartment and abducted him”.

“Efforts by neighbours and family members to ask them to identify themselves and their station led to the assault of these neighbours and family members, who insisted until the men claimed they were from Police/DSS joint task force”, the statement continued.

Ogbogu said since the arrest on Friday night, efforts by the family to identify his whereabouts have remained fruitless even after visiting all Police and DSS formations in Abuja.

"The Organisation has, therefore, petitioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to come to the aid of his sorrowing family and direct the security agencies to either release Mr Idikwu or charge him to Court.

“It is now four days since they took him away violently from his family without any information as to his whereabouts.

"Prince Idikwu did not go with his routine drugs, and nobody knows if he is still alive. The President should intervene urgently and save Prince Tony before it is too late," they pleaded.

BREAKING NEWS: Police Officer killed as Soldiers kidnap Enugu Capital Territory Chairman


In the early hours of Sunday, 15th December 2024, Chief Uche Anya’s residential area in Independence Layout was transformed into a war zone as a large contingent of soldiers stormed the home of the Chairman of Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority in a dramatic commando-style operation.

Details of the incident remain hazy, but a local resident reported that the soldiers arrived in force, deploying numerous Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) and gun trucks.

There are fears that a police aide may have lost their life during the chaos, though this has yet to be confirmed. Local sources have also indicated that Chief Anya’s gatekeeper was taken away as well.

“They opened fire indiscriminately, smashing through several security doors and ransacking the house before abducting the Chairman,” said the resident, who requested anonymity for fear of reprisals.

“The men arrived around 2:30am. When we ventured outside after they had left, we found stains of blood on the floor and noticed that gunfire had shattered the windscreens of vehicles parked at the residence.”

Another resident described the incident as “devastating,” stating that the suspected military personnel left the neighborhood in terror. Those who attempted to flee from the gunfire witnessed the soldiers using APCs to block Toscana, Brown, and other roads leading to the ECTDA Chairman’s home.

He also revealed that the soldiers appeared intent on causing havoc, mistakenly breaking into a neighbouring house, believing it to be Anya’s, and leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.

As of the time of this report, neither the police nor the army has issued a statement regarding this outrageous incident.

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has upheld the election of Ndubuisi Nwogha as the authentic Chairman of the Ebonyi State chapter, despite earlier opposition from the national leadership.

This decision was reached during the NEC meeting held in Lafia, Nasarawa State, presided over by the National President, Comrade Isaiah Benjamin.

The election, which was contested between Grace Egbo and Ndubuisi Nwogha, was initially marred by controversy after a purported letter from the national leadership was circulated shortly before the election, announcing its cancellation. Despite the alleged cancellation notice, the election proceeded, and Ndubuisi Nwogha emerged as chairman.

Reacting to the development at the time, Comrade Isaiah Benjamin declared the election illegal, null, and void in a statement, condemning the process and affirming the national leadership’s authority over such matters.

However, after deliberations during the NEC meeting, a report submitted by the National Vice President, South East, Mr. Ikemefuna Asika, led to the decision to uphold the election. The NEC acknowledged the challenges surrounding the election and commended the Ebonyi State Government for its support to SWAN.

Part of the communique reads “After much deliberation on the Ebonyi State chapter election and the report submitted by the National Vice President, South East, Mr. Ikemefuna Asika, NEC graciously upheld the emergence of the new State Executive Committee (SEC), while commending Ebonyi State Government for its support to the Association. NEC then charged the new leadership of the Association to chart a new course for the unity of its members.

” NEC resolved to set up a fact-finding/reconciliation committee to look into the issues that emanated from the election process in Ebonyi State and find lasting solutions while calling on aggrieved SWAN members to forgo any past misgiving and join hands with the new leadership to move Sports writing forward in the State.

Meanwhile, the Ebonyi state chairman Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Mr Ndubuisi Nwogha commended the national leadership of the union for the decision and assured members of inclusive leadership while appealed for more support to make the union the envy of all.

The British deputy high commissioner to Nigeria, Gill Lever, has led a team of delegates to inspect the popular Abakaliki rice mill industry to assess its capacity in production and rice processing towards ensuring food security.

This is also, as the chairman of the company, comrade Obeji Linus assured the delegation of his willingness to partner with the international community towards assessing grants to improve the production capacity of the company.

Gill Lever, who was accompanied by some government officials in the state, including the state commissioner for agriculture, Hon. Mrs. Nkechinyere Iyioku, and the state commissioner for commerce and industry, Mr. Oguzor Offia Nwali, among others, said she was impressed with the sight of the company.

"I'm really impressed and surprised at what I'm seeing in this industry today, and it's such a great opportunity to commend the government of Ebonyi State and the managers of this company.

"This is so good that I believe if we had two places like this one in the world, there would not be a food shortage. I'm very much impressed.". She said.

Speaking with journalists, the chairman of the Abakaliki rice mill industry, comrade Obeji Linus, appreciated the Governor Nwifuru-led administration for the support given to its members by the provision of soft loans to farmers, expressing his willingness to partner with the international community and seek possible grants for its farmers.

"The British deputy high commissioner is here today, accompanied by some government officials in the state to assess what we are doing and also to ascertain how rice production could be boosted, and they went all round our clusters; we showed them how much their visit is of great impact to us.

"We appreciate the government for what they have done for us, and we also want the British High Commission in Nigeria to assist us with grants so that the rural farmers would not continually depend on loans.".  Obeji said.

According to him, the grants would further help improve the agricultural sector in the state, particularly in the area of quality rice seedlings and mechanical farming equipment, as well as create a room for irrigation farming to enable the farmers to engage in all-season farming.

"Without fear of contradiction, we have more than one thousand milling engines here that enable us to produce more than 300 metric tons of rice on a daily basis that is not only sold in Ebonyi State but also to other parts of the country.

"If what we are doing individually in the Abakaliki rice mill industry and with the help of the state government could attract an international donor, it would not only boost agriculture but also food supply to the entire world because we have the capacity to do so.

"The most populated set of people in the rice mill industry are women and youths; we are using this medium to call on the international community to help us with grants." He added.

The Ebonyi state commander of the neighborhood watch, Mr. Victor Nwenyi Chibouyi, has assured us that there are adequate arrangements to secure the lives and properties of people in the state throughout the yuletide season.

Commander Chibouyi gave the assurance while interacting with journalists in Abakaliki and disclosed that the state internal security is working with other sister agencies to ensure a crime-free season.

He noted the yuletide as a time of mass return within and across the state, which means that people of different walks of life return home for the celebration; hence, the need to check the activities of the home-based and the returnees.

"The Christmas and New Year is usually a case of mass return, as people are coming from different places and walks of life to celebrate at home, and as they are coming, a lot of things are involved because they are coming with the lifestyle they live in those places.

"And those who feel that they have not met with their financial expectations intend to take advantage of the season to engage in all manner of criminalities; some might be drug users who will return from different parts of the world, so there's a lot of expectations.

"We have noted also that in this period, reckless driving used to be very common. We have been working with the police for intelligence-gathering, and we have been engaging the youths on the dangers of reckless driving," he said.

Chibouyi equally said the internal security in collaboration with the office of the state commissioner of police would engage the youths in the state in a carol event and sensitize them on the need to shun drug abuse and other activities that stimulate crime.

"We have decided to carry out a carol to make sure that we inform them, which is initiated by the state commissioner of police. On the 19th of December, we will have an engagement with the youths. We have invited the road safety, NDLEA, police, among others, to talk to our youths.

"Some of these boys engage in crimes, knowingly or unknowingly; some is due to the influence of drugs. We are throwing our weight towards that to control it, and we increased checkpoints to check the activities.

"Following our preparations, we are giving Ebonyians hope that there won't be any form of criminality this season and that the crime rate will reduce drastically because we are putting up with every strategy to make sure that it works out and that Ebonyians enjoy the season in the mass return peacefully without fear of security challenges.".  Chibouyi Assured.

He attributed the success recorded in ensuring the security of lives and properties in the state to Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, who, according to him, has been doing a lot to improve the sector.

"His Excellency, Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has been doing a lot to improve the security system in the state; he has procured operational vehicles and many other security apparatus, which has made the job seamless.". He added.

Commander Victor urged the people to remain law-abiding and celebrate the season off crime and other vices that would tamper with the existing peace in the state and warned that no action that breached security would be tolerated.

The police brutality on innocent citizens may not be stopping soon as officers of the Nigerian Police Force everyday finds it permissible to illegally traumatize the people they are made to protect without any genuine reasons in an affront to the constitution of the country.

A member of the House of Representatives, representing Ideato North/South Federal Constituency of Imo State, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere has emerged the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Southeastern state of Imo, Nigeria.

This development followed the appointment of Ikenga imo Ugochinyere who is the highest govt Official elected on the PDP platform in the State by the party 27 LGA Chairmen forum in Imo State on Saturday.

The leaders in a statement signed on their behalf by Coordinating Chairman of the 27 Imo PDP LGA Chairmen forum urged stakeholders in the state to rally round the vibrant lawmaker.

They said that such move would help in the battle of rescuing the party from imminent collapse both at the state and national level.

The PDP leaders who passed vote of confidence on Ugochinyere also insisted that the party's acting national chairman, Umar Damagun and national secretary, Samuel Anyanwu should be immediately removed to pave way for reinvigoration of the main opposition party.

They said: "We the leaders of PDP in Imo state after wide consultations and deep reflection on the state of our party in the state and the country, resolved to appoint the member representing Ideato North/South Federal Constituency of Imo State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Barr Ikenga Ugochinyere as our leader.

"This is based on his antecedents, sterling leadership qualities and commitment to the protection and promotion of the ethos of our party over the years. Judging from his ingenuity, we are confident in his ability to be the rallying point of PDP in Imo state for the party to rebound ahead of future polls.

"We therefore urged stakeholders in the party to rally round him and give him all the support needed to succeed in the task of rebuilding our party into a virile force to be reconked with not just for electoral purposes but in promotion of democratic ideals which our party stands espouses.

The National Association of Independent Media Practitioners (NAIMP) members in Ebonyi State have weighed their support for the performing governor of Ebonyi State, R.t. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, over alleged spending of 8.2 billion naira for official vehicles as reported on Sahara reporters.


The organization, also condemned in its entirety, the report by the same media, of an alleged 1.1 billion naira budgeted for wildlife conservation in the state's 2024 appropriation budget, and described it as a "falsified, unprofessional" way of tarnishing the image of the governor.


The group noted that the Governor has the right to get an official car for his office on assumption of duty as the Governor, since the previous administration had prevented the budget for the 2023 fiscal year."However, the Governor has the right to adopt the doctrine of necessity in matters that were yet to pass through the legislature.".


In a statement signed by its national president, Prince Solomon Okorie, and made available to journalists in Abakaliki, the state capital, NAIMP members, who belittled the perpetrators of the said publication, described it as politically motivated and cautioned them not to distract the good intentions of the governor in the delivery of his "People's Charter of Needs.".


"The said publication by Sahara reporters is purely a deliberate political move by some desperate people with the intention to tarnish the image of the Governor of Ebonyi State, R.t Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, and to distract him from delivering good governance.


"As an acclaimed professional media outfit, the publishers of such misleading content should have done a fact check and possibly contacted the appropriate channel to verify their findings before going public.


"We do not wish to dabble in politics and gimmicks, but this is our own way to commend good leadership and also caution anyone who is trying to distract the performing governor because he is youthful and working; we will not take it lightly next time as we know the skeletons in their wardrobe," it stated.

Prince Solomon also urged the unsuspecting public to disregard the information and support the government in its bid to better their lives, enumerating the achievements done in human and capital development by Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru's administration.

FG disburses N738.8m of Presidential grant to 14,776 Ebonyi business owners


The Bank of Industry (BOI), says a total of 14,776 business owners in Ebonyi have benefited from the Federal Government’s Presidential Grants scheme in the state.

Mr Chukwudi Asiegbu, Manager of the Bank in the state disclosed this during a townhall meeting on the outcome of the grant scheme, on Friday in Abakaliki.

Asiegbu noted that each beneficiary received N50, 000 amounting to a disbursement of N738.8 million.

“The beneficiaries cut across the 13 local government areas in the state. 14,776 individuals received a sum of N50, 000 each," he said.

The Manager added that the government has also launched a N75 billion loan to support Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) nationwide.

“Today, we have a sensitisation programme and a kind of townhall meeting to educate the general public about the Federal Government Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

“The programme has a kind of three arm, the first is the Presidential Grants Scheme which N738 million has already been disbursed.

"The second is the N75 billion MSMEs loan, where business owners can ger up N5 million.

"The third is also N75 billion manufacturers fund. This is designed to support industrial-scale enterprise

“We flagged-off the N75 billion loans nationwide. Registered Business owners can access a maximum of N5 million with a competitive interest rate of 9 per cent through BOI.

"The registration has started and this is for everybody, so long a you have business doing. The public should go online, if you have a registered business in the state and you are an employer of labour,” he said.

Earlier, Gov. Francis Nwifuru, who was represented by the Commissioner for Human and Capital Development, Mrs Ann Aligwe, commended the Federal Government for the schemes and supporting the citizens on ease of doing business..

Mr Martin Zohu, Official at the Office of the Vice-President, said the townhall meeting was basically for the intervention of the Federal Government, including the grant and loan scheme for MSMEs.

A Wig Dealer dealer, Mrs Nneka Ogbonna, who is a beneficiary of the N50,000 grant, thanked the Federal Government for the support, noting that the money had helped to boost her business.

Another beneficiary, Mr Chikaodili Emma, a native of Onicha local government, also expressed happiness for the support, adding that he, his wife and sister-in-law got the N50,000 grant each.

Emma, who deals on beverages, said that the money helped him to set up his business.

FUGUS denial of my employment status really strange, will be challenged in Court - _'Sacked' UNIZIK VC

In the past Seventy-two hours or more, the print, broadcast and social media outlets have been flooded with reports emanating from a Press conference addressed by the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University, Gusau, Professor Muazu Abubakar wherein he claimed that the embattled Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Professor Benard Odoh was never in the employment of the university and neither was he a tenured professor at the institution. He also went further to allege that, " _all documents pertaining to Odoh's claims were fraudulently obtained through administrative fraud working in cahoots with the Registrar and the former Vice-Chancellor of the University"._

_In the case of Dr. Odoh Bernard Ifeanyi, the university notes as follows: That he did not submit any letter of acceptance of offer of appointment, that he did not undergo the statutory documentation, that even though Dr. Odoh was engaged as a visiting linkage staff in the Department of Geology of the university, and dubiously enrolled into the institution’s payroll from July 2014 to August 2015, he neither assumed duty nor taught any course since the inception of the department in the 2014/2015 academic session_ ", the Management claimed

According to him,
_“The so-called letters of offer of tenure of appointment as professor and confirmation of promotion to the post of professor, dated 30th April 2015 and 12th November 2015, being paraded by Dr. Odoh Bernard Ifeanyi and purported to be certified true copies hurriedly endorsed by Ibrahim Bawa Kaura, former registrar of the Federal University, dated November 8, 2024, six solid years after the latter left the services of the Federal University Gusau, are products of administrative fraud orchestrated by Dr. Odoh, working in cahoots with the former vice chancellor of the university and the registrar”_

_Abubakar had accused Odoh of colluding with former university officials to forge documents, including backdated letters of appointment and promotions that were certified years after those officials had left office"_, Prof. Muazu stated.

The import of the hefty allegations above, also flowing as an official position after an earlier rejoinder on the same subject matter referencing a _Vanguard_ publication published some hours earlier by the same authorities at the FUGUs, is that any discerning reader who read between the lines could espy that it was masterfully tilted towards scoring what seemed like a political point than a usual factual and academic tone. Perhaps, with counter facts and evidences to the several claims earlier made by Odoh and backed by copious documents already in the public domain, this clear observation may have been viewed differently by the Nigerian public.

In other words, one strongly suspects that those desperate to rid Odoh out of office and perhaps, further cause him public shame, ridicule and embarrassment are now even more desperate to damage and utterly destroy his academic, social and political reputations in what obviously could be understood as a deliberately orchestrated and mafiaso media trial, similar to what happened to the former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen who jas now been eventually watched clean by the Court.

The sad bane of Nigerian media trial is that once a person's reputation has been tarnished, it is hardly ever restored even if finally cleared by the Courts. This is why we call for diligent checks, confirmations and the professional ensuring of balanced reportage by the Nigerian mass media in this matter.

In one tone, the management of the institution sounded as though they had a grouse and scores to settle with the pioneer administration led by the former Vice-Chancellor, Professor
P. O. Okeke who employed Odoh, including the pioneer Registrar of FUGUS, Ibrahim Bawa Kaura.

In another breath, they sounded like some academic or intellectual 'terrorists' who were under intense pressure to achieve a determined end with a perfected script handed over to them; all, desperately desirous to nail Professor Odoh and pitch him not just against the academic community but the rest of Nigeria and the world

All these are pathetically strange and having carefully painted the above background, it is therefore now trite that the following posers and observations are made before the general public, even as he shall leave no stone unturned to seek Legal redress in a Court of competent jurisdiction on these very weighty and damaging allegations against his person and unblemished records:

1. That every facts, documents, evidences, including Court depositions made by Professor Odoh so far in the matter were never fraudulently obtained or manufactured but were availed me upon diligent enquiries to those who held sway when he worked with and for the said institution.

To further buttress this, he had earlier written to the Pro-Chancellor of the university to cause clarifications on the matter so as to clear the name and reputations of both institutions and particularly Professor Odoh whose image and accomplishments both as a former public office holder of high standing and a thorough-bred academic has been at the epicenter of the entire storm. May we place on record that Odoh has never forged, falsified or caused to be altered, any document even When in public office.

2. That despite officially receiving those correspondences from Odoh and even acknowledging receiving the same, no official reply has been sent to him either in a hard or a soft copy. Rather, the university for the same strange reasons claimed they have no records of his files and other staff profiles in their records.

3. It is therefore now very clear from their reactions in the media that there are some fifth columnists working for some other pecuniary interests on the matter to not only indict Odoh but rubbish his long-standing reputation.

Both the current Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar have failed in the estimation of reasonable minds to tow a path of academic professionalism all in their desperate attempts to implicate and indict Odoh at all costs and to a large extent, the institution through their insinuations that he was issued with a 'fraudulent' employment and promotion letters as a Professor.

4. Professor Odoh wishes to restate his earlier submissions that he was a Staff of the Federal University, Gusau with Staff number: SP. 048. And he was consequently and duly captured for payment of salaries by the Bursary Unit of the institution only after he had met every other condition precedent set out in the terms and conditions of service by the institution. This is evident in his payslips done via the NIPPs by the Federal Ministry of Finance with a payment description which clearly reads: ' _Salary from the Federal University, Gusau_ '. He never colluded with the Bursar or any other Staff for that matter as insinuated by the Management of the institution to cause to be paid or for any other matter whatsoever.

5. On the claims that, Odoh was not appointed a Professor by the University, it is trite to reassert that he was not only promoted to the apex rank but was duly assessed by three assessors; out of which two are still alive and active, namely: Professors P.O. Okeke (now retired) formerly of UNIZIK and the Enugu State Universities and Isaac Aiyegbogun of Edo State University, Ekpoma.

The erudite duo, disturbed by the allegations against Odoh in public domain have separately approached the High Courts in Enugu and Ekpoma respectively and deposed to affidavits attesting to all the processes in my assessment and consequent promotion.

All these, which are already Court certified documents would be tendered in the course of our litigation.

6. Reading the authorities of FUGUS battle to lay claims to an alleged gross violation of the Evidence Act in the documents obtained and certified for and on behalf of Professor Odoh by the former Registrar, one is disturbed about how the same institution that already claim it will challenge the documents in Court were desperate to also be the judge in their own case. For the sake of clarity, Section 104 of the Evidence Act, 2011 is unambiguous:

(1) _Every public officer having the custody of a public document which any person has a right to inspect shall give that person on demand a copy of it on payment of the legal fees prescribed in that respect, together with a certificate written at the foot of such copy that it is a true copy of such document or part of it as the case may be.

It is clear in reply to their claim of non-payment of legal fees that no law mandates the former Registrar, Kaura to collect fees for a document under his custody in order to prove the authenticity of the documents of a staff employed during his tenure as a Registrar of the University.

This becomes more understandable given the fact that the current management claims that Odoh's records are not in their custody.

Why cry foul over the production, certification of the same documents without payment of legal fees by the man who superintendended over the Registry? Does absence of the payment of legal fees vitiate the genuineness and authenticity of the said documents?

These and many more are the gamut of burdens now resting on the shoulders of the academic _'mugus'_ in FUGUS who we fall short of calling out as 'academic or intellectual 'terrorists' or 'bandits' and they really have to prove these to Nigerians and the world during trial!

7. Lastly, Professor Odoh wishes to extend his heartfelt regards, first; to his academic mentors and mentees, his numerous fans and supporters and indeed Nigerians at large who have kept fate with him in this dangerously trying and desperate times. They should recollect that Professor Odoh had been audited 32 times after his resignation as SSG of Ebonyi State by a government insipidly desperate to indict him but found him not wanting in any way or capacity. Truth, as always will soon overtake their desperate falsehoods!

Personal Assistant, Media and Publicity to Professor Benard Ifeanyi Odoh

The Governing Council at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University led by Prof. Greg Ozumba Mbadiwe has called on President Bola Tinubu to probe the recent sack of Council by the Ministry of Education and to ascertain the authority of the signatory of the dissolution letter.

Mbadiwe who spoke on behalf of other members of the Council made the appeal on Tuesday while speaking with newsmen in Owerri over the recent dissolution of the Council.

The sacking of the Mbadiwe led Governing Council and officials of the University, The Guardian gathered followed reports that the Council appointed an unqualified vice-chancellor for the university without following due process.

But Mbadiwe countered that the selection of the vice Chancellor and Registrar were legally done and all due process followed to the letter.

He urged the President to review the situation with a view of saving his career and reputation and that of other members of the council from unwarranted destruction.

He said, "My silence on the ongoing matters at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, where I serve as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council, should not be misconstrued as weakness or fear. It is a deliberate decision to allow justice to take its course".

"However, recent events, particularly the declaration of illegality concerning the properly constituted Committees of the Council tasked with selecting the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar, which strictly adhered to the provisions of the Nnamdi Azikiwe (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2012 (as amended) and the abrupt dissolution of the University Council by the Ministry of Education compel me to speak out".

He continued, "During the appointment process for both the Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar, all relevant stakeholders, including representatives of the Council and Senate, were fully involved and adequately represented. The Search Committee was properly constituted, with one external member of the Council serving as Chairman and four other internal members".

"The Selection Committees for both the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar were also duly and lawfully constituted in line with established regulations. It is important to note that the so-called aggrieved parties have already filed multiple cases in court, which are still ongoing. The court of law remains the highest arbiter of justice, law, equity, and fairness. Resolving these matters administratively, without regard for judicial processes or court orders, is not only unjust but also a grave miscarriage of justice".

"Does this suggest that the authority of the court, as the ultimate institution for adjudicating justice, no longer holds sway in our beloved country, Nigeria? I respectfully disagree and take exception to such a notion".

"Over the years, I have undertaken various other assignments for my country, far too numerous to list here. I hold my integrity in high regard and remain committed to upholding the principles of justice and fairness in all my endeavours".

"Finally with utmost respect and highest regard, I appeal to Mr President to save me and my reputation and meritorious services spanning nearly 3 decades from wonton destruction. I have served my country diligently and with all the strength it pleased the good Lord to avail to me."

"It's therefore violation of ones rights that the ministry of Education acted without inviting the council to ask any questions or seek inputs in any aspect of the subject matter in question in a matter as critical as this". he added.

Recall that few days ago that, President Bola Tinubu approved the dissolution of the governing council of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) in Awka, Anambra state.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the president on Information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga said, Tinubu also approved the removal of Bernard Odoh, the new vice chancellor, and Rosemary Ifoema Nwokike, the registrar".

Other four members of the dissolved council, are: Hafiz Oladejo, Augustine Onyedebelu, Amioleran Osahon, and Funsho Oyeneyin.

EBOSACA Engages Community Leaders To Intensify War Against HIV/AIDS In Ebonyi




The Ebonyi State Agency for Control of AIDS (EBOSACA) has resolved to engage community leaders across the state to intensify awareness campaigns as well as the war against HIV and AIDS in the state, which is part of events scheduled for the year's commemoration of AIDS.

Prince Iteshi Andrew Chibueze, who is the executive secretary of the agency, said the essence is to involve the community leaders to disseminate the campaign to further increase prevention from mother to child, following the 2024 theme for commemoration of HIV and AIDS.

"We expect to have an increase in awareness campaigns in our communities, to engage other community leaders to spread the campaign, and as well increase prevention from mother to child, because this year's theme centers on prevention amongst children. 

"When there is proper testing in the community and among pregnant women, the virus will be early detected, and necessary measures will be taken to ensure that both the mother and child are free from the virus." He said.

Prince Iteshi disclosed that the agency has equally trained traditional birth attendants on both counseling and HIV services within the rural areas, as well as engaged community-based organizations specifically for testing of pregnant women in the communities, saying that over 17,000 clients have tested positive and are being placed on medication.

Lending her voice, Dr. Nwobashi Lilian Ndidi Amaka, who is the president of the Medical Women Association of Nigeria, Ebonyi State chapter, said her organization goes to the nooks and crannies of the state for health outreach, screening, and providing care for mothers and children.

"Each of those outreaches we do, we encounter a patient, we refer them appropriately, and do follow-up to ensure that these people access care and they adhere to their medication," she said.

Also speaking, Dr. Otubo Sunday Augustine, the consultant pediatrician in the infectious disease unit of the Alex Ekweme Federal Teaching Hospital, said exposed babies (that is, children of infected mothers) are being followed up for eighteen months to monitor their status and provide possible medication.

"Most of them, over 95%, come out to be zero negative due to our interventions; their mothers will be on highly reactive antiviral drugs, while the children will be exclusively breastfed. We monitor their feeding patterns, and if there's any problem we discover on time," he said.

Dr. Otubo urged mothers to prioritize antenatal checks and volunteer for screenings to enable early detection and treatment, saying that couples can be positive while their children are negative, due to active medical intervention, and noted that over 98% of cases have proven negative in the past eighteen months.

Part of the engagement included the award of the ambassador of war against HIV and AIDS to the traditional ruler of the Echara Unuphu community, His Royal Highness, Chief Eze Sunday Oketa, who pledged to continue sensitizing his people on the need to access proper testing and screening towards the achievement of the war against HIV and AIDS by 2030.
