Our reporter gathered that the gunmen suspected to be members of the opposition party spread bullets at the convoy of the party's guber candidate which led to the death of the driver and several others injured.

In a statement by APGA spokesman in the State, Mr. Nwanchor Chibueke, who condemned the attack, called on the security agencies to do the needful by enforcement of the ban on the activities of Ebubeagu security outfit as well as bringing perpetrators to book in order not to escalate the situation.

"The All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA in Ebonyi State has received with dismay the unwarranted suspected Ebubeagu militia Ambushed attack on its guber candidate, Prof. Bernard Ifeanyi Odoh where one of his drivers was killed, five missing, and two others sustained various degrees of injuries on Thursday 2nd January 2023 near Rest House, Okpoto, Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

"This is among several attempts of the ruling APC government to suppress Ebonyi APGA whose message has penetrated every nook and cranny in Ebonyi State.

"Recall that Ebonyi APC masterminded the beating of APGA supporters in Afikpo North, Ugwulangwu in Ohaozara LGA, and the destruction of vehicles during the APGA campaign at Izzi LGA sometimes last year.

"In the face of such a sordid act, they persisted in laying ambush, fired to kill the Guber Candidate but succeeded in killing the driver while others sustained various degrees of injuries.

"It is now clear to everyone that the APC in the state plans to use the Ebebuagu militia to intimidate and destabilize the peaceful conduct of the election starting on the 25th of February 2023.

"To checkmate the evil machinations of the Ebubeagu militia whose planned destruction of lives and property may herald another round of bloodshed in the state as opposition parties will not fold their hands and watch members of Ebubeagu harm party supporters again where they are to protect the lives of Ebonyi Citizens but the ruling APC government in Ebonyi has employed them to intimidate and destruct the peaceful conduct of the 2023 general election in Ebonyi". "This also lends credence to Umahi's stance that he is the father of all in the state,"

He described the governor as a history breaker being the first helmsman since 1999 to allow the opposition use the stadium for its activities.

He commended the chairman of the council for his impressive performance in office, noting that young people should be encouraged to participate in governance.

"Governance at the state to the ward level should be left for the youths while that of the central should be left for the experienced.

PoliticsEbonyi APGA Condemns Alleged Attack On Supporters By Ebubeagu In Afikpo by polycarp65(op): 2:47pm On Jan 29, 2023
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) campaign council in Ebonyi State has condemned the alleged attack on its supporters in the Afikpo North Local Government Area of the State.

APGA equally cautioned the All Progressives Congress (APC) as well as the Afikpo North Local Government Area council chairman, Mr. Uchenna Ibiam, against "stoking tension" and threats on Governor David Umahi's Senatorial race opponent, Sir Ifeanyi Eleje, a Senatorial candidate of the party.

The director of Media and publicity of the Odohzia Ebonyi campaign council, Mr. Charles Otu, said findings have shown that the state government has allegedly concluded plans to abduct, torture, and remand APGA supporters in Police custody and throw some into the Correctional facilities.

"Some other influential stakeholders supporting the Party we also learned have already been penciled down for maiming, which will land them in the hospitals till after the election.

"To make good their threats and plots which we had earlier gotten hints of, the Ebubeagu Security operatives working under the Chairman of the Local Government Area, Mr. Uchenna Ibiam were detailed to abduct, torture, and ransack the residences of our Senatorial candidate's supporters.

"They will then be coerced into making confessions that they were sent by the Party's leaders to destroy and deface APC campaign billboards in the area," it stated

He further disclosed that the men of the Ebubeagu security outfit have allegedly invaded the residence of one Amobi Ujah, an APGA supporter, and abducted him.

"His friend and another APGA supporter, one Chijioke was lucky to escape, while the victim was consequently taken to the council area where he was severely tortured, forced to confess in a video and name the Director General of the Ifeanyi Eleje Campaign council, Mr. Iheukwumere Okogwu among others as sponsors behind the destruction of APC billboards in the area.

" After the Council Chairman, Ibiam, personally recorded him (as he could be heard in the background of the video) having serious injuries inflicted on him by the Ebubeagu boys, they later handed him over to the State's Police Command.

"Consequently, the Ebubeagu officials invaded the residence of the said Mr. Okogwu at Ukpa village in Afikpo North in the early hours of today, stealing a motorcycle and other valuable property in the compound, claiming to be hunting for him.

"Since then, Okogwu has not been seen and neither is his whereabouts known to the public. Already, we were informed that there's heavy tension in his Ukpa village over the invasion of his residence and the gunshots that were heard in the area.

"Sources also alleged that the said Ujah was coerced to mention the name of our Party's Senatorial candidate, Chief Ifeanyi Eleje among others as being behind the allegations of billboards destruction all in their desperate bid to give a dog a bad name to hang it.

"Another very authoritative source disclosed that upon receiving the briefing of the Afikpo North council Chairman, Governor David Umahi who doubles as the APC Senatorial candidate for Ebonyi South allegedly instructed the Ebubeagu team to arrest, humiliate, torture, maim and terrorize members and prominent supporters of our Party- the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA wherever they may be seen.

"The source further claimed the Ebubeagu militia were allegedly detailed to attack our Senatorial candidate, Chief Ifeanyi Eleje, and inflict on him injuries of monumental proportion that will make him remain hospitalized till after the February 25th Presidential and National Assembly elections.

He said the APGA in the State would continue to conduct themselves peacefully ahead of the forthcoming general elections and enjoined their supporters to maintain calmness while calling on the state Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Garba to release the detained Amobi Ujah, and investigate the petitions of APGA in the Area.

The statement further appealed to the Inspector General of Police, IGP Baba Usman to order the investigation of alleged wanton killings and unprovoked attacks on Umahi's political opponents in the State, as well as appealed to Afikpo leaders to call the council chairman to order to avert further breakdown of law and order.

The member representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency of Ebonyi State at the National Assembly, Hon. Chinedu Ogah has threatened to sue the West African Examination Council, WAEC, for witholding some examination results of Ebonyi indigenes.

Ogah expressed the displeasure in a statement he issued to newsmen and called on the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, to wield into the matter.

The philanthropist of repute urged the minister to sanction WAEC for derailing from its administrative mandate.

"Why should students of Ebonyi origin pass through such difficult situation after registering and sitting for WAEC examination with their counterparts from other states.

"This development if not given due attention can lead to youth restiveness and proliferation of other social vices among youths in the state".

The federal lawmaker called on WAEC to immediately release the remaining part of the results belonging to indigenes of Ebonyi state.

"I urge WAEC to reverse the N500, 000 sanction placed on the affected schools as there are no evidence suggesting any form of malpractice by such schools.

"WAEC has examination supervisors, invigilators and general supervisors who oversee the examination.

"These officials never cancelled the examination when it took place so what then is the rationale for releasing part of the WAEC results and withholding others.

PoliticsWhy Prophet Dr. Adol Awam Is Clamouring To Govern Ebonyi State. by polycarp65(op): 4:47pm On Jan 12, 2023
By Maxwell Eluu.

Abakaliki.

The Governorship Candidate of NNPP in Ebonyi State. Prophet Dr. Adol Awam. Has opened up why his clamouring to be the Governor of Ebonyi State, whereby calling on the eligible voters in state who has registered to go and get their PVCs also , to support and vote for him to achieve his clamouring ambition to be the Governor of the State in the coming general Election.

The Prophet while addressing Newsmen at his Campaign office, Along Abakaliki/ Enugu Express Way in Abakaliki. Said " You can recall that Within the past few years, the growth and development of the private sector in Ebonyi State has been stifled with unfriendly business environment policies especially high and unfavorable taxation.

This sad development has constrained and forestalled investments, rapid industrialization and growth of MSMEs especially small businesses in the informal sector".

Added "Under our administration NNPP, our business policy (BEEP) will focus on the removal of constraints in the business regulatory and institutional environment of Ebonyi State to make the business climate friendlier, less cumbersome and easy to comply with for MSMEs.

Our BEEP intervention is posed to facilitate and promote reforms targeted at strengthening the capacities of stakeholders (both public and private sector) to better advocate, initiate and implement reforms that result in improved performance of MSMEs, increase income and employment generation.

To this end, we will vigorously support reforms that protect MSMEs from unfavorable tax conditions e.g.
* payment of illegal and excessive taxes, levies and charges,
* harassment by tax officials
* as well as promote voluntary tax compliance

Our tax cuts and tax rebates policy are designed to put more money back into the pockets of consumers. Ideally, these consumers spend a portion of that money at various businesses, which increases the businesses' revenues, cash flows, and profits.

Having more cash means companies have the resources to procure capital, improve technology, grow, and expand. All of these actions increase productivity, which grows the economy.

He further, to achieve this, we will spearhead Public-private dialogues to identify key issues/ reform needs and agree with stakeholders and relevant MDAs and legislative institutions on best approach to resolve them.
PoliticsLP Reps Candidate In Ebonyi Rues Exhorbitant JAMB Registration Fee by polycarp65(op): 11:51am On Jan 12, 2023
The Labour Party Candidate for Ohaukwu/ Ebonyi Federal Constituency at House of Representatives, Prince Ndubisi Chibueze-Agbo, has rued the exhorbitant cost of the 2023/24 Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination registration fee.

Chibueze-Agbo who was a Former Commissioner for Education in the state made the disclosure in an interview noting that the development called for concern.

He stated that N6,700 which is the examination's registration cost cannot be afforded by many families.

" The extant minimum wage of N30,000 for civil servants in Nigeria for instance and the high cost of living would culminately makes the amount hard to afford by many families.

"This is a mark of insensitivity by relevant agencies saddled with the responsibility of providing such fundamental service.

"The harsh economic realities in the country should be considered when decisions concerning such sensitive issues are made,"

The educationist stated that examination bodies were not created chiefly as a revenue channel of government.

"They should instead, serve as institutions to maintain up-to-date and competitive yardsticks acceptable to current global realities.

"I therefore appeal to the Federal Ministry of Education which is the supervisory ministry of the board, to look into the the issue.

"The ministry should direct a reduction of the JAMB registration cost to accommodate students whose parents might not afford the cost presently,"

He maintained that such increment contribute to the negative tendencies which presently pervade the society.

"Intelligent students denied access to tertiary education have the tendency of resorting to crime and other detrimental acts.

"I therefore appeal to Nigerians to vote for competent candidates such as the presidential candidate of the labour party, in the forthcoming general elections.

"This is to save the country from further degeneration as any nation which fails to provide accessible and qualitative education to its citizenry, will certainly be in a crisis,"

PoliticsHouse Of Assembly Candidate To Ensure Effective Representation Of Constituency by polycarp65(op): 10:58am On Jan 11, 2023
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Candidate for Ishielu North constituency in the Ebonyi state House of Assembly, Chief Enoch Eze has pledged to offer effective representation to his people if he wins the seat in the forthcoming general election.

Eze who hails from Nkalaha community of the area, said in an interview that he aims to correct the poor representation of his people presently, at the assembly.

He noted that the poor representation had made his people not to feel the impact of governance as he possesses the whirewhital to correct such situation.

"I will liase effectively with the executive arm of government to bring massive infrastructural development to my people.

"My people for instance, cannot access roads in the area during the rainy season as the worst hit areas include Nkalaha, Obeagu among others.

"Confrontation with the executive arm will not attract the needed democratic dividends to one's constituency instead collaboration would ensure such,".

Eze, a Grassrooted politician said he will redefine empowerment to uplift the well-being of his people.

"The government has several empowerment packages for the people and it takes acumen to attract such from the executive arm of government.

"Women and youths who constitute more than half of the electorate's population should be adequately empowered to check various forms of restiveness and generally make the society better,".

He advised the populace to be calm and not take laws into their hands as regards the provisions of the executive order which places several restrictions on political activities in the state.

"They should instead massively vote for APGA candidates in all electoral positions to effect the desired change in all faecets of the state.

"Our gubernatorial candidate for instance is the most qualified among all the candidates and posseses the whirewhital to effect this change.

"He once occupied a strategic position in the present administration in the state and can therefore, practically and effectively effect these changes,".

Polycarp Sola-Abakaliki

The year 2022, no doubt came with its ups and downs, crisis, issues, and benefits, and as the year quickly winds up, it becomes necessary for Eye witness News to do a recap on one of the phenomenal events that have contributed to given Ebonyi State a good name.

Mr. Uchenna Inya, a State correspondent of the New Telegraph Newspaper, without much Ado, took the entire state in awe as the Nigerian Media Merit Award (NMMA) conferred him with the award of the most innovative reporter In the Country.

This development no doubt opened Inya to the golden opportunity to write his name in the sands of time in the history of the NMMA and therefore, journalism in Nigeria, and Ebonyi State.

Moreso, the stories of NMMA would not be complete without mentioning Mr. Inya, an Ebonyi man who in the year 2022 made a historic phenomenon.

In a statement signed by the State Governor's special assistant on media and strategy, Mr. Chooks Oko, Governor David Umahi in his wisdom earlier congratulated Inya.

"Umahi who was full of praises to Comrade Inya for upholding professional aptitude in the discharge of his statutory duties observed that his penchant for objectivity earned him the laurel". it stated.

He commended Inya for his various contributions to building the State through his display of professionalism in his reportage; he said "Uchenna over time has been a dependable ally in the Ebonyi project whose reportage has been nothing short of professional in the course of his practice.

Umahi continued that "On behalf of the people and Government of Ebonyi State, I congratulate one of our own, a seasoned Journalist, Uchenna Inya of the New Telegraph Newspaper for his latest award as the most Innovative Reporter of the year.". while describing him as a golden fish that doesn't have a hiding place.

The award conferred to Uchenna Inya is however not based on his reportage about the activities of the State Government, but on his reports on "Graduate Unemployment: surviving through metal works and fighting unemployment through imbued skills".

He defeated two journalists from other stables; one from the Nation newspaper and the other from New Telegraph to emerge the winner.

The sincerity and passion for developmental and true journalism might have played a vital role in making out such reports, at a time when the Country needs it.

This height, without another year and of course no doubt gave Uchenna Inya another merit award from the Ebonyi State Government.

The State honorary award is a highly cherished one and it's given to citizens that have distinguished themselves in their various fields of endeavor and made the State proud.

In his words, Inya said he was just doing his job and the awards were coming of their own accord, he, however, encouraged young journalists to work on projects that would elevate the lives of the people.

"I was surprised at the awards because I didn't know that the State Government were seeing the little I was doing, I didn't know that I have done anything to deserve the award, but if they said I have done something to deserve it who am I to reject it".

"It's a task for more work, a challenge to do more, if at all I have done something to deserve it then it will spur me to do more and improve in my work". Inya said.

In this recap, Eye witness media recall that the special assistant to Ebonyi State Governor on media and strategy, Mr. Chooks Oko had urged journalists in the State to be selfless and professional towards contributing to a healthy society.

PoliticsEbonyi People Should Support Nwifuru As Umahi' S Successor"---nweze, APC Stalwar by polycarp65(op): 11:19am On Dec 27, 2022
A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi state, Chief Chaka Nweze has urged Ebonyi people to ensure that Chief Francis Nwifuru succeds incumbent Governor David Umahi when he exists office in May 2023.

Nweze, the Pioneer Secretary of the party in the state gave the urge in Abakaliki in an interview, noting that several factors have propped to be considered in ensuring that Ebonyi makes this right choice in 2023.

The Former Vice Chairman of the state chapter of the Association of Local Government Areas of Nigeria (ALGON) said that prevailing circumstances in the state suggests that equity was the surest means of sustaining the peace and harmony in the state.

The former Executive Chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi state said that on equity basis, Nwifuru should be considered because he is the only candidate of any of the major political parties which fielded a guber candidate from the northern senatorial zone.

"The north presented the first executive governor of the state from 1999 to 2007, the central presented the next from 2007 to 2015 and emotions swayed that the next governor should come from the southern zone. 'Even though some of us were critical of the candidature of the governor as it were, which made some of us to support a candidate from the north. little did we know that the mercy of God was on the governor which is evident in what we are seeing today in Ebonyi", he said.

"The then governor, Chief Martin Elechi also supported a candidate from the northern zone but the sympathy had swayed to the south."

He noted that the Izzi clan which is the biggest in the northern zone even overwhelmingly supported Umahi from the south and abandoned their son, Edward Nkwegu to vote for Umahi.

"You needed to be in the state at that period to see the level of emotional attachment towards the southern candidate and this should be replicated now,"

Nweze who is the APC Campaign Council Coordinator for Ohaozara LGA, said that Nwifuru should be massively supported by Ebonyi people because he is a protege of the man who has given the state good governance, most especially in the area of infrastructure.

"Ebonyi cannot afford the risk of electing someone who does not understand the dynamics of governance as espoused by Umahi.

"Nwufuru had grown under Umahi's tutulage right from his stint as a member of the state House of Assembly until rising to the position of the speaker.

"He is an integral part of the divine mandate governance philosophy in Ebonyi and has been part of the revolutionary trend which has turned the state into a model, sought after by other faecet of the country".

"The impact of Umahi in infrastructural development of Ebonyi can never be equalled in the anals of the state and the best way to preserve such legacy is to elect someone who shares the same philosophy and can ensure the mainrenance of the infrastructure among others," he said.

He noted that another factor to consider in massively electing Nwifuru was his personality which is not only amiable but worthy of leading the people to consolidate on present gains.

"Nwufuru is peace maker extraordinary who has radiated peace and harmony in his dealings with the people and the leadership sphere.

"It is on record that he has stabilised the state house of assembly, making it a spectacle of peace and progress which had churned several bills and motions for public good," he said.

He noted that Nwifuru is charismatic and accessible to all, no matter the state origin, part of Africa or world the person came from.

"His recent pronouncement that non-indegenes contributed to the development of Abakaliki shows that his government when he hopefully assumes office, will accomadate all.

"He will also enhance the economic wellbeing of the people as his human empowerment strides even as the speaker of the house is second to none.

"Several indiigenes of the state have benefited from his human empowerment policies and more is sure to come when he assumes power,".
