Dear Family landers. I am here to seek your advice on how to rescue my car from my neighbour.

I bought a car, direct from abroad, a very clean and sweet ride, and registered in September, 2023 (5months ago). However, due to the high fuel consumption( V6, 3.5l engine) and the ever unstable fuel price today, I decided to put it up for sale to get a smaller engine capacity. A neighbour expressed interest in buying the car and decided to pay in installment which I agreed. I was also searching for a replacement at this time hoping to use the money realized from the sales to get my preferred ride. My preferred ride prices were shockingly high such that even if I doubled the price I gave to my neighbour it will still not be enough to buy the new ride. Prices rise by the hour these days in Nigeria and I have no hand in this crisis. I returned to my neighbour to inform him that I will not be selling the car anymore due to the present crises in prices of goods in the country. I apologized profusely for every inconvenience and transferred his money back to him. He got angry and said that I must submit the car key and documents to him. He even threatened to send his community and area boys to beat me up and extract the above items.

I came back from work to see my car jacked up, surrounded by 2 other vehicles to prevent the car's exit. For the records, there is no written or signed agreement between him and I concerning this sale. I refunded all his money 1 day after he paid his last installment and kept back my car. I have no hand in Nigeria's current problems. I am pushed to use force here but I am thinking that some initial peaceful resolution could be an option.

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for the just conducted bye election in Ebonyi South Senatorial District, Barrister Silas Joseph Onu, has condemned the arrest of Mr. Chika Nwoba, an ex-spokesman of the party in the state, for being a whistleblower on the alleged diversion of the sum of 3 billion naira by a serving commissioner in the state.

In a petition forwarded to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Enugu Zonal Office, Mr. Nwoba alleged that the current commissioner for commerce and industry in the state, Mr. Oguzu Offia Nwali, has diverted the sum of 3 billion naira, which the state government has mapped out for the empowerment of indigenous street hawkers across the country.

Reacting to the allegations, Mr. Oguzu Offia Nwali reportedly arrested the whistleblower in his residence at Awka, Anambra State, on Sunday and subsequently arraigned him before a magistrate court presided over by Mrs. Lilian Ogodo in Abakaliki, the state capital, on Tuesday, who remanded him at the state correctional center for lack of jurisdiction to entertain the matter and referred it to the high court scheduled for March 1, 2024.

Questioning the arrest and subsequent arraignment of the whistleblower, Barrister Silas Onu, in a statement forwarded to journalists in Abakaliki, he described it as a sad development that exposing corruption in the state has become life-threatening.


"It’s sad that in today’s Ebonyi State, exposing corruption comes with a threat to the life of the whistleblower. I thought that Nwoba Chika Nwoba had taken steps to verify and substantiate his allegations by writing a petition to the EFCC.


"Why will the police be so willing to be used for purposes of silencing Nwoba? Well, they have succeeded in keeping him in prison via a well-coordinated arraignment before a court they knew had no jurisdiction, and the magistrate delivered what they actually desired."

Barrister Onu, who lamented over the situation, regretted that the unprofessional action of some security agencies in the country has jeopardized the essence of community policing and opined why the idea of state police would not succeed in the country.

"This is why state police will never work in Nigeria. Imagine how the federal police are already being used by an ordinary commissioner. 

"Chika Nwoba won’t be in prison forever, and the allegations he made will also not disappear, as some of us are now willing to join in and ensure that the truth is not swept under the carpet via intimidation and harassment.

"Now, we will all become Chika Nwoba and ensure that all acts of corruption are exposed, whoever is involved."

Onu said this while calling on the state governor, Rt Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, to ensure that the rule of law is maintained in the state.

"His harassment is hereby condemned, and I call on the Governor of Ebonyi State to rein in on his appointees by ensuring that no one is placed beneath the law.

"I will formally ask Transparency International to take steps towards unearthing the veracity of the allegations against the appointees of the State Governor. I do hope and pray that their books are transparent and that the beneficiaries of the said fund are traceable targets of the said fund. 

"We cannot be complacent because the police will be used to harass us and then refuse to expose corruption; we will take up the fight from where they have distracted Chika. I know that he had some facts to back up his claims before going public, as he never speaks flippantly." It stated.

The sleepy town of Oraifte, in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State was a beehive of activities today as the Chairman of Chrome Group of companies and the founder of Sir Emeka Offor Foundation (SEOF), Sir Dr Emeka Offor marked his 65th birthday in grand style.

The birthday celebration was adjudged by friends, associates, well-wishers and numerous beneficiaries his philanthropy as a celebration of a life of impact.

Sir E during his birthday celebration distributed 40,000 bags of rice to widows across Anambra state, as well as the 2024 book distribution programme, which took place on Saturday 10th February 2024 at Radio House Oraifite, in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The special guest of honor at the day’s event, the governor of Anambra State, professor Chukwuma Soludo felicitated with Sir Emeka Offor, describing the past 65 years Offor has spent on earth as years of impact, saying that it was not about how long a person lived, but how much impact they make in the lives of people around them.

The governor thanked Sir E for choosing to celebrate with the widows, vulnerable, and students of primary, secondary, and higher institutions in Anambra state when he could have celebrated anywhere in the world.

Soludo commended Sir Offor for his unprecedented effort of donating 40,000 bags of rice to widows across Anambra state, as well as the distribution of books and educational materials to over 200 educational institutions in Nigeria.

He called on the general public to appreciate Sir E for upholding the Anambra spirit through his efforts and decision to live for others, rather than himself, saying Sir E has shown that one person can feed an entire state.

The governor also invited other well-meaning indigenes of Anambra to see this as a time to share and communicate our common humanity, by contributing to improve the lives of people around them in whatever way they can.

In his remarks, Sir Dr. Emeka Offor thanked his friends and well-wishers for their show of love, friendship, and partnership, as he turned 65.

He thanked God for the gift of life and the growth of the Sir Emeka Offor Foundation and the third phase of the social investment program which was commissioned by the vice president of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima in November 2023, saying the distribution of this 40,000 bags of rice to widows across the 179 communities of Anambra state marks the end of this phase of the program.

He said SEOF is distributing books and educational materials to over 200 educational institutions in line with the belief that a book is a knowledge bank and that education forms the basis of excellence.

Sir Emeka Offor appealed to Nigerians to show compassion to the widows, vulnerable and indigent in societies around them.

The wife of Sir Dr Emeka Offor, and the vice president of SEOF, Adaora Offor, said SEOF marks a significant milestone in the life of Sir E. She said in November 2023, SEOF gave 10 fully furnished housing units to widows in Oraifite, saying 10 other houses are being constructed and will be commissioned in months to come.

She congratulated the beneficiaries of the donations and assured them that the foundation would do more to support them to face and surmount the challenges of life.

The PG of Oraifite, Vin Dike on behalf of the president generals of Anambra state, thanked sir Emeka Offor for his decision to extend his generosity to the people of Oraifite and Anambra state at large, praying that God will replenish his pockets, give him long life and prosperity.

Also speaking at the event, the Acting Voice chancellor of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojuku Nigeria and former commissioner for education in Anambra state, Professor Kate Omenugha who spoke on behalf of the tertiary institutions receiving books from SEOF thanked sir Offor for his continued donations aimed at improving the education sector, promising to make good use of the books to improve the knowledge of the students they were donated for.

The past district governor of Rotary Ijeoma Pearl Okoro, thanked Sir Offor for his continued donation towards the activities of Rotary, as well as his sponsorship of numerous beneficiaries under the peace fellowship.

The Commander General (CG) of the Nigerian Hunters and Forest Security Service (NHFSS), Ambassador. Dr. Osatehin Joshua Wole, has decorated Barr George Ndukwe Ukpai as the new Assistant Commander General (ACG) of the security outfit in charge of *anti-criminal* Narcotic operations in bushes and forest across the country.


In an event that was held at the NHFSS Headquarters in Abuja yesterday, the 10th day of February, 2024 General Wole, while congratulating Ukpai on his elevation to the exalted position, charged him to work in liaison with agencies and regulatory bodies on narcotics in the country to eradicate criminal activities within the bushes and forest across the country.

"He is responsible for identifying criminal activities relating to narcotics that take place in all the bushes and forests of the country."


According to the CG, Barrister Ukpai would serve as the pioneer ACG incharge of Narcotics in the security outfit in the country.
The Commander General used to occasion to call on the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sign the NHFSS Bill into law to further strengthen the contributions of the outfit in the fight against terrorism, kidnapping and other criminal activities now ravaging the country.

Before his elevation, Ukpai was an Assistant Commander (Legal Services) to the Ebonyi State Command of the NHFSS.


He is the former Auditor-General for Local Governments, Ebonyi State, a lawyer, a Chartered Accountant, and a Chartered Tax Practitioner.

The people of Oraifite community in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State have accused the lawyer to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, of aiding and fuelling insecurity in the community.

The Traditional Ruler of Oraifite, Dr Daniel Udorji and the President-General, Sir Vin Dike, made these allegations during a press conference they jointly addressed in the presence of other members of the community, at the Oraifite Civic Centre, on Monday.

The development followed the recent kidnapping and alleged killing of a 38-year-old youth leader in the community.

Journalists from different media platforms who were at the press conference were also informed of an ongoing rift between Ejiofor and the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, Chief Sir Emeka Ofor. Both Ofor and Ejiofor are members of Oraifite community.

Both the community monarch and the president general, also alleged that the IPOB lawyer used a masquerade organisation called 'Otueke' to kidnapp, harass and intimidate members of the community, including Sir Emeka Ofor, whom they described as the "messiah" to the community.

As a result of this, they said the kinsmen have placed a ban on the 'Otueke' festival with immediate effect, citing insecurity as the main reason.

The president-general, Chief Vincent Dike, said, "This press conference is called to let the world know the activities of Mr Ifeanyi Ejiofor towards his ancestral people and the man who made him who he is today in the society.

"Ejiofor is one of the major beneficiaries of Sir Emeka Ofor's humanitarian gesture in Oraifite town. He was trained by Sir Emeka Ofor from Secondary to University education. But today, his benefactor has become his greatest enemy in this world. He has also extended his hatred to the entire community that trained and protect him.

"He uses 'Otueke' an organisation filled with all manners of youths, mostly from his Umunakwa kindred to unleash terror on us. About 95 percentage of kidnapping, killings and other criminal activities in our community today, is been sponsored by Ejiofor with support from his Umunakwa kindred. Because of this, he has not been holding meeting with us for the past 15 years.

"Otueke is an organisation that was set up by our forefathers to unite the people, to discuss important and vital issues of the town. It has multiple arms, there is an arm that is used for enforcement called 'Otuebe'.

"Otuebe is an arm that was used by our forefathers to enforce order and obedience or collections within the community, the reason why we are placing a ban on it is because some disgruntled elements are now using it to fuel insecurity and all other atrocious activities coming with this 'Otueke' because it's almost like a masquerade.

"Some naive son's of the community have also hijacked 'Otueke' and it has become their personal property. They even registered it in a Corporate Affairs Commission and are using it for reasons that it was originally not meant for."

The PG, however, called on the state government, the Police and other security agencies to intervene on the matter.

The traditional ruler, Igwe Daniel Udoji, on his part, appealed to the people of the community to rise up and defend the community.

Udoji said, "I am the Igwe of the town, I am the father of the town, every Oraifite person, male or female, citizens of Oraifite are my children, I take delight in supporting mostly, those who have positive values.

"Who pursue the peace, love, unity and progress of Oraifite. Oraifite has been very peaceful, full of good news and progress, but of late, we have been bombarded with insecurity as a result of disgruntled elements thereby giving the communitu bad and negative publicity.

"Oraifite is blessed with a son like Emeka Offor, he has done so much for us, Nigeria and in fact the whole world. You can remember the polio incident, he donated so much money to control polio not only in Nigeria, but across the world", he said.

The Igwe said that Mr Emeka Offor has created jobs, empowered the youths, taken care of widows, constructed roads, built factories, created employment for the youths both in Oraifite, Nigeria and the world.

"It's very painful that Oraifite people don't seems to appreciate what God has given to them, a son like Mr Emeka Offor, my Igwe friends during our monthly meetings in Awka have said that they will offer him nationality, if Oraifite people can not protect him.

"It's too bad, let us unite and appreciate Emeka Offor, he has done so much for us, not only appreciate him, defend him when he is under attack, there are many bad people who don't appreciate good things.

"It's regrettable that we don't come out to defend him on social media, when he's under attack; it shouldn't be only when we need him that we should go to him.

"We should come out and defend him, humanly speaking, we can't reward Mr Emeka Offor for all he has done for us", he noted.

Reacting via phone call, Ejiofor told our reporter that through out his life time ,he had never supported, encouraged or sponsored crime.
He urged the public to disregard
disregard the allegation level against him as there are unfounded and mischievous.
According to him,as a lawyer of many years standing, it is not possible for him to support or encourage criminal acts.



He said that the only crime he committed was asking the PG and the community about a young man called Ebuka Wigwe, whom Anambra Vigilantee groups abducted and kept without informing the family of his where about and reason he was abducted.



"When I was called and told about the youngman abduction,i petitioned the Inspector General of Police and subsequently he was released by Court.

" Iam not against the arrest of any person that committed crime but his whereabout must be communicated to his family. The reason for his arrest must be made known.Why must they keep his abduction secret? " he said .
He said that all that is happening in Oraifite are caused by Emeka Offor who use the traditional institution and PG to cover up.
He said Emeka Offor uses the members of the town union to achieve whatever he wants in the town.
According to him,he has no problem with the community, regretting that they claimed that Emeka Offor trained him in the University.

Ejiofor said that Emeka Offor is after him because he is owning him N2.8billions .

The President, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Otuekong Bonny Nyong says the stoic performance of the Super Eagles against Angola has maintained Nigeria's pride in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations taking place in Ivory Coast.

The former Minister who served between 1992 and 1993 was buried in his
Ichita Ukpai villa hometown, Owutu Edda, Edda local government area of Ebonyi state on Friday afternoon after church service presided by the Catholic Bishop of Abakaliki, Rev. Dr. Peter Nworie Chukwu.

Orji who was also former Abia and Imo Deputy Governor died at 89.

The burial ceremony was attended by Governor Francis Nwifuru, former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim, former governors; Marthin Elechi, David Umahi among other dignitaries.

In a tribute , the Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Francis Nwifuru described late Chief Orji as a seasoned politician who was part of the struggle for the creation of Ebonyi State.

"Today, we are gathered to bid a heroic farewell and salute a patriotic and illustrious son of Ebonyi State, a frontline politician and a revered community leader - His Excellency, Chief Francis Amah Orji, who begins his final journey today."

"Only our positive legacies survive after we are no more. Those prints of love, growth and development for humanity in the sands of time, are pointers to how well we have lived. "

" ⁠I have often said, that you can take everything out of a man, but you cannot take his legacies away from him. Our father, Late Chief Francis Orji, left tremendous legacies in Ebonyi State and Nigeria at large. In his legacies, he lives forever. For this reason, we are here to pay our last respect to him."

The Governor emphasized that Late Chief Francis Amah Orji lived a sacrificial life, characterised by patriotism, love, and fear of God with a pure passion for excellence.

The State Chief Executive assured that Government, will ensure that the legacies of discipline, excellence in service delivery, teamwork, resilience and above all, patriotism, which he was widely known for, will be institutionalized as part of his administration's quest for civil and public service reforms.

"It is indeed sad, that the physical presence of Chief Francis Orji will forever be missed, but his legacies will never be forgotten. We will at all times, stick to excellence in all we do as Government. Of course, in constituting our executive council, heads of boards and commissions, this was the compass. He will be sorely missed."

The first son of the deceased and former Deputy Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Chief Blaise Orji said he will miss his father greatly.

"What his Excellency the governor said, marks it all and I am sure you heard him clear unless you want me to start shedding tears again ", he said

Chairman planning committee of the burial, George Ukpai described the late Orji as a man of compassion, a man with charitable disposition, a man that fought for the common good, a man that cried when the poor wept, a man that touched many lives and a man whose legacies will continue to vibrate in the entire country and the generation to come.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Edda local government Council, Chief Chima Ekuma Nkam described the late for patriarch as a man of passion who has completed his quarter, adding that the legacy he lived would continue to vibrate in Ebonyi and Nigeria at Large. he said.

Other leaders who attended the burial ceremony included a former Secretary to Old Anambra State, Senator Chris Nwankwo, Senate Deputy Chief Whip, Onyekachi Nwebonyi, member representing Afikpo/Edda federal constituency, Iduma Igariwey former Deputy governors of the state, Professor Chigozie Ogu and Dr. Kelechi Igwe, former Ministers among others.

In a concerted effort to boost food production, Izu Blessed Agricultural Training and Investment Limited, a privately-owned company based in Abia State, on January 31, 2024, organized a training session on "Pest and Disease Control for Increased Cassava Production." The event, held at Kolping Society of Nigeria, Umuahia, marked a crucial step in the company's mission to transfer vital agricultural knowledge and skills to farmers in the region.

Izu Blessed Agricultural Training and Investment Limited aims to make a significant impact by collaborating with governments, universities, and other organizations, locally and internationally. The CEO, Mr. Izuchukwu E. Nwankpa, highlighted the importance of such partnerships during the training, commending the State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, and the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Professor Monica Ironkwe, for their commitment to agricultural practices, to boost food security and job creation.

In her speech, the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Professor Monica Ironkwe, emphasized that for Nigeria to survive its current economic challenges, it has to intentionally harness its vast arable lands for agricultural purposes. She appreciated Izu Blessed Agricultural Training and Investment Limited for identifying genuine farmers in the state for the training. According to her, while many efforts of governments in boosting food production have not yielded the desired results of food sufficiency in Nigeria, and Abia State, in particular, is because many who claim to be farmers produce nothing.

They collect all the benefits accruable to farmers, yet they own no single farm, produce no single crop, and rear no animal, simply because they are “Political Farmers.”

She lamented that the cause of many avoidable deaths we witness in Nigeria today is traceable to hunger. “When people suffer sustained hunger, their immune system weakens, and they become vulnerable to diseases and ultimately death. We must get rid of ‘political farmers’ and empower the real farmers to harness our vast arable lands to achieve food sufficiency,” she opined. She revealed also that Abia State is currently profiling all the real farmers in the State to ensure the right thing is done this time around.

The Commissioner advocated for making agriculture compulsory in tertiary institutions, citing Clifford University in Abia State as a positive example. She believes that such measures are essential for achieving food sufficiency and addressing the economic challenges faced by the country.

Representatives from ADP, FADAMA, and the National Root Crops Research Institute, Umudike, Mr. Udensi Johnson, Mrs. Grace Orji Okpe, and Dr. Innocent Onyekwere respectively, expressed their institutions’ readiness to provide technical support to farmers.

They expressed optimism that collective efforts, mirroring Izu Blessed's initiatives, could lead Nigeria to overcome its food insecurity challenges.

The second session of the training was absolutely impactful. The first lecture was delivered by Dr. Mrs. Beatrice Onunka, where she covered the introduction to cassava, its origin, and its significance in Nigeria as the world's leading producer.

According to her, the National Root Crops Research Institute (NRCRI), Umudike, has a mandate for genetic improvement, production, processing, and marketing of cassava.

The institute has developed over 46 improved cassava varieties, including yellow root varieties rich in β-carotene to meet vitamin A requirements. She advised farmers to take advantage of this information to enhance their farming activities.

The objectives of the training included discussing pests and diseases affecting cassava, their causes, symptoms, damage, and control options.

She defined pests as organisms causing economic damage to cultivated plants and emphasized the importance of pest and disease control to prevent crop loss, income loss, and other negative impacts. Basic principles of effective pest control were highlighted, such as applying control only when necessary and causing as little harm as possible to non-pest organisms.

The lecture then proceeded to provide information about specific pests of cassava, such as the Cassava Mealy Bug, Ariegated Grasshopper, Termites, Rodents, Sheep, Goats, and Cattle, along with their symptoms and management options. It also focused on cassava diseases, including Cassava Mosaic Disease (CMD), Cassava Bacterial Blight (CBB), Leaf Spots, and ways to manage and control them. In summary, the lecture covered a comprehensive overview of cassava production, the pests and diseases affecting it, and effective control measures to ensure farmers are equipped with the requisite knowledge to enable them to increase cassava production in Abia State.

In furtherance of the training, a practical session was taken by Mr. Ani Onwukwe. It included a brief lecture, recoupling, and a field demonstration on the use of manual knapsack sprays.

The training provided information on various types of sprayers based on the volume of liquid handled, including high volume, low volume, and ultra-low volume sprayers.

It also discussed different types of hand-held sprayers, knapsack sprayers (made of stainless steel and brass), stirrup sprayers, rocker sprayers, hand compression sprayers, pedal-operated pumps, tractor-mounted field/boom sprayers, aerial dusting sprayers, and motorized knapsack sprayers.

Part 1 of the training explained what a sprayer is and defined a knapsack sprayer. Part 2 focused on the salient features of knapsack sprayers and the basic components of a sprayer, including the pump, tank, agitator, air chamber, pressure gauge, pressure regulator, valves, cut-off valve, by-pass valve, relief valve, strainer/filter, nozzles, spray gun, spray boom, and overflow pipe. The practical section covered the dismantling and coupling of the sprayer components before the trainees. The precautionary measures before, during, and after spraying pesticides were discussed, emphasizing the importance of wearing protective gear, reading manufacturers' instructions, and properly cleaning equipment.

The session concluded with steps on how to use a manual knapsack sprayer, including filling it with water and agrochemicals, checking wind direction, and maintaining a steady step during spraying. It also listed do's and don'ts, highlighting important considerations for safe and effective pesticide application.

The pioneer councilors forum in Ebonyi state, a group made of individuals who served at the ward legislative council between the year 1999 to 2002 have pass a vote of confidence in Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru on his performance over the past few month of his administration.

The group equally used the opportunity to make a passionate appeal to Governor Nwifuru to continue with his good policies of ensuring the welfare of his people, and further sought him to look into their plight and give a directive for the payment of their severance allowance which has been long overdue.

Addressing journalists in Abakaliki the state capital during a meeting with his members, the chairman of the forum, Hon. Maxwell Nwali who moved the motion to pass a vote of confidence in Governor Nwifuru said it was based on his people oriented policies which have made positive impact in the state and believed that it would spur him to do more.

"Having enumerated all the achievements of the Governor in the past seven months of his administration, i, on behalf of the pioneer councilors forum, hereby move a motion that a vote of confidence be passed on the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State". He said.

Hon. Felix Okoro, a member from Umuchima ward in Ohoazara Local Government Area of the state seconded the motion as other members adopted it.

While commending the Governor for the approval of the payment of backlogs of pension and gratuities of civil servants who retired between 1996 to 2021, the chairman, who called on the attention of the Governor on the non payment of their severance allowance appeald for him to look into their plight.

"We are particularly privileged to make a plea to our dear Governor, to continue on the paths he has started with, he has created a welfarian government where human needs matters.

"He has already said it that he would be dealing on both physical and human infrastructure, and that is exactly what he is currently doing, and we want him to continue.

"We also plead with the Governor to look at the issues that concerns the pioneer councilors of Ebonyi State, 1999-2002, because these are really the set that laid the foundation of democracy in Ebonyi state.

"Since they've so labored, let them be remembered again, we happened to be among the people he has approved for their pensions to be paid, from 1996 to 2021, our severance is our kwown gratuity, we thank him for the approval and appeal to him to extend his directives to the people in charge to please pay us". The members of the Ebonyi State Pioneer Councilors Forum from 1999 to 2022 have hailed the Nigerian judiciary, following the Supreme Court judgment that upheld the election victory of the Ebonyi State Governor, Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, as flawless.

The chairman of the forum, Hon. Maxwell Nwali, who commended the judiciary on Wednesday in an interview with journalists in Abakaliki, expressed gratitude to God for the victory and described Governor Nwifuru as having the intention to improve the livelihood of the masses.

"We are grateful to God for the victory of His Excellency, Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, the man after the hearts of the masses, the man whom God is using to wipe our tears.

"The verdict of the Supreme Court is not just a justice well delivered, but a justice well served to the entire people of Ebonyi State, and we wish to salute the judiciary for standing to the test of time and renewing the hope of the common man." Nwali said.

He further explained that the apex Court judgment would enable the Governor to focus on delivering quality leadership to the people, a duty which he was voted to do, and commended his achievements over the past seven months of his administration.

"Our governor is doing right; from the inception of his administration, which is barely seven months old, he has outperformed his electioneering promises.

"He has not wasted time to start working; he approved the payment of the gratuities of the retirees from 1996 to 2021, a thing that was difficult for his predecessors to do, which has resurrected a lot of people.".

Nwali, while expressing confidence that Governor Nwifuru would ensure the wellbeing of the masses, noted his achievements in the areas of worker welfare, education, health, and employment, among others.

"He has made moves to improve our agricultural input, and he is currently working to revamp our moribond industries, such as the Ebonyi pipe production company, the Ezamgbo building materials, and the water sector. Water is now running in the state, and he has promised to do more." He said.

The forum chairman reiterated his members commitments to continue supporting the governor's administration's goals and maintain a good relationship as it was, even before the election.

Lending their voices, the secretary of the forum, Hon. Ali Daniel Oguzuru, and the director of media, Hon. David Uka, commended the governor for initiating peace across the crisis-affected areas in the state since the inception of his administration and pledged to work with the government to support the development of the state through healthy partnerships.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State has expressed confidence in the Nigerian judiciary following the Supreme Court verdict, which upheld the election of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru on Friday in Abuja.
 
The state chairman of the party, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegah said the apex court verdict has shown that the country is on the path of true democracy, where the voice of the masses matters in the affairs of the country's leadership.
 
Speaking with journalists in Abakaliki, the state capital, amidst jubilations, he described the victory as a stepping stone for the governor to continue with his people's charter of needs agenda towards the delivery of good governance.
 
"This is to assure Nigerians that we will still get the country on the right side; this has shown that the judiciary is truly the last hope of the common man.
 
"Ebonyi case is one of the proofs that there's absolutely nothing you can do so that the voice of the masses will not be heard; Nigeria, under the leadership of Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, will still get it right." Emegah said.

He said, having served in the state in different capacities and being aware of the immediate needs of the masses, the governor will now concentrate on his policies, which revolve around improving the lives of the masses, which he swore to serve and protect.
 
"The masses are already happy with what the governor is doing at the moment, and I believe this victory will give him the space to continue with his good projects for the people. He has said that he will ensure human empowerment, health, and the education sector are developed, as well as every other area of human endeavor.".
 
The party chairman called on the opposition to join hands with the current administration to build a better state for all in the interest of peace and progress.
 
Lending his voice, Hon. Chidiebere Uzor Agwu, who is the Onicha local government council chairman in the state, congratulated the governor and maintained that his victory at the Supreme Court is for the entire people of the state as well as a victory for democracy.

The special assistant to the Ebonyi state governor on airport security, Mr. Nnanna Nwangele, has denied claims by some protesters over the non-payment of salaries by the state government.

The protesters have allegedly worked as security guards at the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport for over 8 months without salary.

In an interview with journalists at the airport facility on Tuesday, Nwangele, who reacted to the claims, said the individuals are not personnel of the airport security guards as the recruitment process is yet to commence.

"This is a matter of misunderstanding. When I assumed office as the special assistant to the governor on airport security, we met the vigilantes and neighborhood watchmen.

"When we started working, we decided to ensure proper security arrangements in accordance with international best practices, and we sought the approval of the governor to form the airport security guard, which has been approved.".

He explained that the local vigilantes and neighborhood watch personnel engaged by the local authorities have not been officially recognized and would not be associated with the airport security guards.

"We don't have their records and we don't know them; this is an international airport, and we need to maintain standards, not bring people from anywhere and engage them as security.

"The protest did not exist here among the people that we know; this is the work of a few people trying to sabotage the good works of His Excellency, Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru," he said.

The governor's assistant equally conducted an inspection of the super runway currently undergoing rehabilitation and commended the governor's determination to ensure that commercial activities commence at the airport facility to boost the state economy.

"The rehabilitation work is in progress; there's no encrouchment from the villagers because we had meetings with them to ensure a good relationship, and they are cooperating with us," he added.

The people of Abaomege, an agrarian community in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi, has elected a new Traditional Ruler, Eze Livinus Oguta, ECHEMUGO II of ABAOMEGE, 22 years after the demise of the last ruler in 2001.

The last Traditional Ruler of the community, His Royal Highness, Eze Gabriel Ineke, ECHEMUGO 1 ruled for several years before his death.

The community had been without a ruler for many years, over the position that has no hereditary system of succession for no concrete reason.

Oguta, the new Monarch, who is a businesses man and industrialist, was unanimously elected by delegates from the eleven kindreds of Abaomege community in line with the tradition and constitution of the land, through an option A4 system.

His installation was performed by the eldest men of the community, Chief Nwokpo Egwu and Chief Moses Nwite in Echemugo, the ancestral home of the people on Thursday in the area.

Speaking shortly after his installation, the new Monarch expressed delight that the community found him worthy to shoulder their people’s responsibility.

Oguta pledged to lead and serve his people without fear or favour and would discharg his duties without consideration of his personal gains.

"I am going to leverage on the developmental strides of prominent indigenes, especially in the areas of agriculture, youth reorientation and boost commercial activities for the overall development of our community," he said.

In his remark, Prof Ifeanacho Umoke, a retired Permanent Secretary, said he was happy that bad politics was not allowed to desecrate the succession process by allowing the true successor to ascend the throne.

Umoke prayed that God would bless the new king and give the people lasting peace and progress.

Others Chiefs including: Lazarus Igwe, Ogbuefi Zaccheaus, Lazarus Onwe, Gregory Onwe and Mr Ifeanyi Ineke also thanked God for the successful installation of their new king.

They further called on the people of Abaomege to support his reign and forgive one another for peace and progress of the community.

A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi state, Chief Chaka Nweze has urged the Immediate Past Governor of Rivers state, Barr. Nyesom Wike, to emulate his friend and Ebonyi counterpart, Engr David Umahi on ways of managing relationship with successors in office.

Nweze, the Pioneer Secretary of the APC in Ebonyi gave the counsel while commenting on the increasing strained relationship between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and his successor as Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

The conflict has degenerated to the burning of the state House of Assembly, decamping of 27 members of the assembly from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and general heating up of the Rivers State polity.

The former ALGON Vice Chairman Ebonyi state who claims to know Wike back in their days as LGA chairmen( Bar. Wike was ALGON chairman Rivers state under governor Odili while Chaka Nweze was the ALGON vice chairman Ebonyi state under governor Sam Egwu ), wondered why Wike who had always had an unbridled ambition to get to the top would want to get messy in a position he was done and dusted.
Nweze warned that if the crisis becomes protracted, the president may be constrained to pitch his tent with the governor for political exigencies and the aftermath may not be palatable.

"The minister should exhibit a high level of maturity and do some cost benefit analysis before negatively engaging his successor. Look at his( Wike) level of performance in FCT within a short period of time; developmental activities everywhere in abuja. Is that what he will want to sacrifice on the theatre of macabre dance with his political son?. Definitely no.

"The minister of FCT should had considered the level of negative attention any squabble with his successor as governor could attract to his person, exalted office and image of the country before engaging in such act. That is wisdom

"There is no way a godfather and godson will not disagree on issues but it would be wise to handle such with maurity, calmness and apply the give and take mentality,".

The former Vice Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) Ebonyi chapter noted that Nigeria's political history is replete with cases of friction between godfathers and godsons and it was time attention shifts to those who managed their relationships well.

I recall the minister of Works in his recent meeting with major Ebonyi APC stakeholders admonishing us to give total/ absolute support to his successor, governor Nwifuru to deliver on his campaign promises to the people of Ebonyi state.

"Wike should take a cue from Former Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi who has shown unbridled dexterity in his relationship with his successor and 'son', Governor Francis Nwifuru.

"Despite the antics of hangers-on whose actions tilt towards causing trouble for the duo, Umahi has ignored and continued shaming them while maintaining a healthy relationship with his political son,".

"He has maintained in several fora that he will never mount any form of pressure on Nwifuru but allow him do his job of continuing with his developmental strides in Ebonyi,".

He urged the political gladiators in the oil-rich Rivers state to consider the consequences of their actions especially as it affects the state and its people.

"This is usually the typical case of when two elephants fight, the grass suffer, as we all are witnesses to what has become of Rivers State since the conflict started.

"The House of Assembly complex was burnt and subsequently demolished, only five members of the House passed the 2024 budget and it is clear that no meaningful development can come out from this kind of situation.

"The state and its people are suffering, development stalled while some ill-minded individuals are feeding fat from such innocous situation.

"The stakeholders of Rivers State should rise and arrest the situation before it gets out of hand because the state does not belong to one individual or group of persons".

Nweze called on Ebonyi people to continue supporting Nwifuru in his resolve to deliver democratic dividends to the people.

"Those who are bent on causing dissafection especially between the governor and his predecessor should desist because the interest of Ebonyi overides all personal or group interests.

"Those hangers-on better realises the unquantifiable role Umahi played in achieving the present political dispensation and stability in the state and accord him his due respect.

"He is the undisputed father of the state and some one whose vision of tomorrow is what we are witnessing and enjoying in Ebonyi today,".

The senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Barrister Onyekachi Nwebonyi has flagged off an empowerment program to benefit his constituents with 235 persons taking delivery of grinding machines with cash sums of money to start up businesses.

Senator Nwebonyi, who is also the deputy Senate chief whip of the 10th Assembly said the distribution was done in batches as part of events outlined to benefit his constituents while disclosing that his program would continue until January 2024.


"Within five months I have been able to attract this empowerment of grinding machines with some money for them to start up a business.

"This is just the beginning, by the 7th of January I will be empowering more than 200 constituents with motorcycles, vehicles, and cash because things are hard and leaders must make things easy for the people". Nwebonyi said.

He maintained that the essence is to assist the less privileged persons and create jobs to engage the Youths positively and drastically reduce the acts of violence and criminal activities in society.

"When the youths are engaged they won't have the time to go into crime, that is what I'm doing, I have distributed over a thousand motorcycles and there would be scholarships and buildings for the poor, we have commissioned over 10 buildings for the less privileged persons". Nwebonyi disclosed.

Eye witness reports that the 235 beneficiaries had earlier participated in a training tagged "Empowerment of Youths and Women in Modern Agricultural Practices in Ebonyi North Senatorial District", which was held at the Remeritona Hotel in Abakaliki the Ebonyi State capital.

The Executive Chairman of Ezza South LGA, Hon Euphemia Nwali and the Stakeholders of Amuzu Autonomous Community in Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State have presented the newly coronated Traditional Ruler of Amuzu Autonomous community, HRH Eze Francis Nwankpu Ujebe, to Ebonyi State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon Uchenna Igwe.

Receiving the new traditional ruler of Amuzu Autonomous community in his office, on Monday, Hon Uchenna Igwe, tasked the newly coronated king to prioritize sustainable peace and security in the community.

Igwe while commending the people for the peaceful conduct of the election and coronation, urged them to support the new king to ensure that he meets the responsibilities of his office and tackle existing challenges facing the community.

"With peace, the environment will thrive, government activities will thrive, and other facilities will come in.

"Let me thank the people of Amuzu: the women, youths, and stakeholders. You have done well because the selection and coronation of an Eze is not an easy task because it's a life position that does not have tenure", Igwe said.

According to Igwe, the role of a traditional ruler is to be with his people, make peace, and ensure that he is meeting with his people on a timely basis to settle unforeseen challenges as it would assist the government in delivering good governance to the people.

"When there's no peace everything will be stagnant, security is everybody's business, when there is peace, there is happiness, you are happy today because you selected and coronated this Eze peacefully", he added.

The Commissioner further appealed to the people to support Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru in his administration's determination to deliver good governance to the state in fulfillment of his manifesto embedded in the people's charter of needs.

"What our Governor is doing is quite enormous, he wants to return peace and governance to the people, the people of the hinterlands and this government belongs to you and if you look at the budget he presented it's all about the needs of the people.

"I appealed to you to keep supporting the government because the state government is doing so much to make sure that everyone benefits from this government", Igwe added.

Earlier, the Ezza South Council Chairman, Mrs Euphemia Nwali noted the support gained from the five kindreds of the Amuzu community towards installing the new king and commended the State government's presence at the coronation ceremony which she said was held peacefully.

"The Eze was not selected by one person, but a collective effort of all members of the Amuzu community, all the people joined hands to install the Eze and everyone endorsed him.

"All the five kindreds of the community were there with one voice and echoed the coronation of the king, which they extended the peaceful atmosphere to neighboring communities", Nwali said

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Coronation Committee, Chief Ikechukwu Nwafor while thanking the State government and the Council Chairman of Ezza South for making the Coronation possible, pledged that with the coronation of Chief Francis Nwankpu Ujebe whom he described as a peacemaker, the Amuzu community would serve as a role model for other communities in terms of peace, and support to the government.

"Yesterday when we came here for the election, we had interruptions from security agencies from state department, police, they interrupted the election, and when the news got to his office, he called us to wait and meet the stakeholders and I want to assure you that we have met and resolved to conduct the election". he said.

The Ekeaba Foodstuff Development Limited before now had been in a leadership tussle that lasted for seven years, until a Federal High Court sitting in Abakaliki on Wednesday, 22 November 2023, presided by Justice H. A Nganjiwa dismissed the parties involved and ordered a fresh election to be conducted 15 days before its sequel.

Members of the Abakaliki rice millers association have hailed Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State on a ban on scaling for the measurement of rice and the reintroduction of the 100-cup bushel.

This commendation came even as the price of rice at the Abakaliki rice mill company at the time of this report had crashed to 15.000 Naira against the 20. 000 naira which was sold barely a week after the reintroduction of the bushel measurement.

Chairman of the association, Mr Chukwuma Daniel, while commending Governor Nwifuru said the bushel measurement would enable both uneducated sellers and local farmers to benefit from the business.

"The former governor introduced the usage of scale and since then, many of our members have been thrown out of business because they are uneducated sellers, they buy in bags and sell on scale.

"We thank the governor of Ebonyi State and the leadership of Abakaliki rice mill owners for the reintroduction of this bushel, this bushel will help our local farmers and local traders". Chukwuma said.

He noted that his association's adoption of the bushel measurement would put an end to the fraudulent activities of some individuals at the mill company who go out of the norm to adjust the scale to cheat buyers.

"Some people will buy a bushel of 25kg, and when they go to the scale to measure it, some get 18, 19 kg, some 20kg, and that is cheating, but the bushel is very transparent.

"We want to commend the State Government for bringing back the bushel and the leadership of Abakaliki rice mill owners for adhering to the government directives, we the traders who supply the company with rice are happy over the development". he added.

The chairman, however, called on other members of the association to ensure adherence to the government directives to enhance buyer and seller as well as customer relationships.

"The price of the bushel will reduce the cost of rice, we have been selling rice here, for 19 to 20 thousand naira but from today, you will see that the price has reduced to 16, 17, and 15k as against 20k, the customers will be happy, the seller and the farmers too.

The secretary of the association, Hon Ikechukwu Nwede, said for the past eight years the millers association has struggled with the use of scale to measure the rice as customers and sellers clash due to disparity of the measurements.

"Every farmer and seller is happy, the bushel cannot be tampered with because it is produced in a way that if you tamper with it it will be destroyed to the disadvantage of the owner, those who are not happy about it are because they don't have a way to amend it and cheat people," he said.

Lending her voice, Mrs Obasi Martina, a trader said she is happy over the development and noted the end to fraudulent activities of some individuals in the rice mill company would strengthen the revenue of the company and boost the state's economy.

Mrs Igwe Eucharia, a customer at the rice mill company expressed her joy at the crash of the price, noting its significance especially as it's coming during the festive season, she noted that this is her first time buying a bushel of rice since January, due to the crash of the price.

"People that are doing fraud were using the scale to cheat buyers, they will adjust it and it brought a lot of problems to the rice mill, the reintroduction of the bushel is a good development because there's no way to cheat people" They informed.

The Abakaliki Rice Millers Association is a group of over 200 people, operating in the rice mill company and are in the business of buying and selling rice across the country, they are made up of local farmers and uneducated sellers.

The remains of Chief Felix Mgbada, foremost Ebonyi Founding Father has laid to rest in his country home, Okposhi, Unwuogharu community in Ezza North local government area of Ebonyi.

Mgbada,Former Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Abakaliki branch and Stalwart of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) was born November 25, 1950.

Speaking at the event on Friday, Governor Francis Nwifuru, represented by Mr Moses Odunwa, Speaker, state House of Assembly urged the family to emulate the late Mgbada on his legacies.

'You have to emulate him on good works and legacies while pray his soul to rest in peace,'

Mr Chigozie Nwankwo, current NBA chairman described the late Mgbada as bridge builders, who impacted immensely to the judicial system.

''We are here today to mourn with the family. The message to them is to take heart and pray God to accept his soul in heaven,''

Mr Augustin Nwankwagu, former speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly said that late Mgbada was a ''man of many parts'' especially in the area of judiciary.

''We have gathered to mourn him because he was a good man. When he was the NBA chairman, I was his secretary and worked very close like a family.

I encourage the family to continue to pray and sustain his legacies,"

Also speaking, Mr Chukwuka Odom, NBA chairman Onueke branch in the state said Mgbada led the bar to the promise land during his days, and urged the family to sustain his legacies to keep the flag he raised flying.

Hon. Okechukwu Mgbada, the deceased's first son thanked all those who attended the burial, noting that the family was strengtened by their presence.

"The array of personalities here attest to our father's greatness while alive and we would sustain the legacies he left behind,".

Some dignitaries at the burial are: the former executive governor of the state, Chief Nwanchor Elechi, Dr Kelechi Igwe, former deputy Governor of the state among others.

A valedictory court session, service of songs among other colourful events preceded the burial of the great Ebonyi icon.

The Member representing Ebonyi/ Ohaukwu federal constituency of Ebonyi state, Hon. Eze Nwachukwu Eze has declared that no Agila Indigene was assaulted in Ngbo his community by an alleged group of boys from the area.

Eze made the disclosure in a rebutal on Friday, against a publication from the Abakaliki reporter of an online news medium, Daily Post which indicated that the incident occurred at the popular Okwor market, in Ngbo.

The lawmaker warned the author of the report to steer clear of his area and desist from any act that will disrupt the existing peace in the area.

"My attention and that of the Ngbo people have been drawn to the unwarranted, frivolous and fictitious report that a man from Agila in Ado LGA of Benue was beaten by a group of boys from Ngbo man at the Okwor market.

"This report is capable of throwing the areas into serious tension and I call on our people and the Agila people to disregard the publication.

"Nothing like that happened as on the alleged day at the Okwor market, Agila people in their numbers were seen trading and buying wares".

He noted that the Agila people traded with joy and conviviality as they walked from point to point in an atmosphere of friendship and love.

"The number of Agila people sleeping over in Ngbo today is more than 15 and we warn the fictitious writer in strong terms not to cause problems between Ngbo and Agila with his write-ups.

"Such write ups fuelled the fratricidal Effium/ Ezza Effium fratricidal conflict as this writer who is from Ezza-Effium, can no longer go to his village.

"He should not write to inflame the whole area but write to entrench peace and harmony among the people".

The lawmaker said that the writer of the news was being warned for the last time to as any further malacious publication from him with be addressed by every legal means by Ngbo people.

"With the authority of my office as a House of Representatives member, I warn him that security tension will not be tolerated in my area and we have had enough of such.

"Since the advent of this administration, peace has gradually returned and we don't want a relapse.

"The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and entire press organs should warn him to desist from such publication".

He noted that in an open market, where one comes from is not written on the face and if there was an alteration between people, it never materialized to beating.

"This fictitious writer should steer clear of our area. He should disclose the identity of the person who beat someone, the victim or officials who spoke with him, also the hospital where the victim is receiving treatment.

"The peace we made with Agila people is sacrosant. We would not tolerate any action that would jeopardize the lasting peace achieved with a walk between both communities on November 18, 2023".

Ebonyi Rice Mill Boss Disburses Bursary To Over 100 Undergraduates, Offers Scholarship

The chairman of Abakaliki Rice Mill Owners Industrial Association, Mr Obeji Linus, during the weekend, disbursed academic bursaries to over one hundred undergraduates from various high institutions In Ebonyi State and awarded scholarships to one Kenneth Mbamoke.

The students were drawn from the Iphe-Igwe Odoriko village of Ibeagu community, which is comprised of 43 villages in the Izzi local government area of the State.

Eye Witness News reports that all the beneficiaries, irrespective of courses of studies and schools, were given a sum of N20,000 each.

Obeji, while speaking at the event said the essence of the gesture is to encourage the students because of the challenges associated with their backgrounds.

"We are saying that those that come from such dark places should be encouraged, those children whose parents are depending on them should not go the same way as the children who are depending on their parents should go.

"It's two different things, because the other will likely hit the rock while the other one might mess up and go back to inherit wealth, but here, the kind of place where we come from if you lose out on your academic, you will certainly go back and pick your hoe". he said

He advised the students to focus on their academics and shun all forms of social vices such as cultism, while challenging them to be good ambassadors of their community.

"The era of cultism is gone, the era people say they are cultists and brag about it is over, it's nonsense as far as I'm concerned, they should depend on God because it's only God makes a way, not in misbehavior". he added

The chairman, while commending Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for manifesting his administration's people's charter of needs on the poor and vulnerable maintained that the governor is his source of motivation.

"My father who is the Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency R.t Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has started with the poor, and I'm encouraged by what he is doing because he has given all of us an open playground with privileges and therefore I should extend it to others". he added

Meanwhile, Professor Clement Mgbada, a professor of history and international relations, and Mr Peter Isaac Iteshi, a Senior administrative officer in Ebsu who witnessed the event commended Mr Obeji for having the will to extend kindness to his people, irrespective of his financial background, and urged the beneficiaries to utilize the funds to support their studies.

Some of the beneficiaries include Keneath Mbamoke, a year one student of mass communication at Ebonyi State University who was awarded a scholarship, Njoku Paul, a Medical student of the same institution and Nwite Jacinta, a Student of computer science thanked their benefactor and pledged to be up and doing to reciprocate the gesture.

Comrade Obeji Linus, the chairman of the Abakaliki Rice Mill Owners Association has applauded the governor of Ebonyi State, Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru on his recent move to stop land encroachment of the Abakaliki rice mill company.

Comrade Obeji also urged alleged illegal occupants of the land to comply with the state government's directives to present their land entitlement documents within one week or face the wrath of the law.

This came following the recent visit of the state government's delegates to the rice mill facility, led by the commissioner for lands, Hon. Matthew Nwobasi.

The commissioner, who led the delegates in the company of the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on lands, Mr Benjamin Ezeoma, and the surveyor general, Mr John E, pointed out that they were there to investigate and determine the degree of people's encroachment into the land allocated to the company.

"I want to use this opportunity to thank the Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency, R t Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for his presence at Abakaliki rice mill company.

"This week, we had visitors from the government, made of the commissioner of lands, Hon. Matthew Nwobasi, the SSA on lands, the surveyor general of Ebonyi State.

"They came to investigate and determine the degree of people's encroachment into the Abakaliki rice mill company". Obeji said.

According to the chairman, the land where the Abakaliki rice mill company is currently situated was allocated to the rice mill company before the creation of Ebonyi State, in the old Anambra state, through the Abakaliki local government system.

"It will be very interesting to let people know that the land of the Abakaliki rice mill was allocated in the old Anambra state through the Abakaliki local government.

"Consequent upon that, it was principally mapped out for a layout, to establish rice processing center, which is the biggest rice cluster in the whole of West Africa". he said.

However, ascertaining the level of encroachments, the State government, through the office of the commissioner for lands has ordered all occupants other than the rice mill company to verify their ownership within one week.

"In our usual way, we have officially written to all the occupants of this area for proper documentation, using this opportunity to let them know that we are serious.

"We have a governor who is very determined to change the history of the Abakaliki rice mill and the common people in the State.

"Therefore, they should as a matter of urgency, submit all their titled documents to the office of the commissioner for lands within one week". he cautioned.

Eye witness news correspondent learned that the administration of the former governor, Chief Martins Elechi had built a health center for the people of Abakaliki rice mill company, but discovered that it had been thwarted by the activities of these trespassers.

Expressing his displeasure, Comrade Obeji said;

"It is this bad that even the hospital built by the State Government under Elechi's administration is invaded by some few individuals, and somebody somewhere is collecting the rent, it is inhuman.

"It is pitiable that all the primary objective of allocating the land has been thwarted by some few individuals". he added.

Meanwhile, the chairman has expressed confidence that the Abakaliki rice mill company can supply rice across the country and beyond, noting that before now, the company used to load more than 20 trucks of trailers for supplies in one day.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial aspirant for Ebonyi South Senatorial District, Comrade Marcelo Nwaji Anyigor has assured his constituents of transparent and responsible leadership.

Tinubu's certificate saga and Atiku's historic battles against Nigeria's anti-democratic forces

That Alhaji Atiku Abubakar- the People's Democratic Party, PDP candidate in the 2023 Presidential election took his battle to get to the root of ascertaining the authenticity or otherwise of the academic credentials submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC by the APC candidate and now President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu in far away United States of America and with his personal, hard-earned resources indeed proves his stoic mettle as a determined democrat whose credentials speak further volumes.

It would be recalled that after several months and weeks of dilly-dallying, the Chigaco State University, where Tinubu claimed to have issued him a Diploma in Business and Administration which he presented was compelled by a Judge, Nancy Maldonado through an order to release Tinubu's academic records in it's possession to Atiku within just 48 hours.

According to her, “In the reasons stated in this Memorandum Opinion and Order, the Court overrules President Tinubu’s objections and adopts Judge Gilbert’s recommended decision in full,” the court said.
It said, “The Court therefore grants Mr. Abubakar’s application under 28 U.S.C 1782. CSU is directed to respond to Mr. Abubakar’s subpoena in the time and manner provided for below..."

Consequently, it was a huge relief for many right-thinking Nigerians when the CSU Registrar, Caleb Westberg appeared under oath and indeed responded to questions from Atiku's lawyers on the authenticity or otherwise of the certificate Tinubu submitted to Nigeria's electoral body as having been issued by the said institution he claimed to have graduated in 1979.

Although the institution's Registrar performed in a rather trickish and shoddy manner in it's response to enquiries under dock especially knowing that the fate of over 200 Million Nigerians home and abroad lied on his simple honesty to enable them unravel their number one citizen who's entire records have been shrouded in so much secrecy and mystery, and also for the sake of the pendency of the 2023 election litigation before the Supreme Court of Nigeria, the take home was yet the fact that the Registrar, under oath denied the claim that the institution issued Tinubu with the certificate it presented to INEC.

Now armed with such credible exhibits as evidences, Atiku returned to file them before the apex Court, not out of desperation for power but to help Nigerians unravel the over three decades mystery behind Tinubu's certificate. Even though the ball is now in the court of the apex Court in the land to determine, rational thinking and democracy-loving Nigerians must respect and commend Atiku Abubakar for standing tall in this epic battle and more particularly for being an outstanding collective conscience of Nigeria's fledgling democracy.

Like he noted during his recent Press Conference that, "I am a democrat by conviction and a citizen of a country that I love. The issues at stake in this case require us once more to re-dedicate ourselves to both the country and our constitution...", Atiku has indeed proven himself a true democrat who believes firmly in justice, honesty, integrity and the rule of law.

This was further demonstrated by his disposition as clearly stated during the said Press Conference; "Now, we entrust these facts to us all as citizens and as leaders of the institutions charged with interpreting our constitution." Indeed he proved that it is not about him but about us all as a people, our democracy and the rule of law as further enunciated in the text of his briefing; "Political leadership and active citizenship matter because they are ways through which we all work together to build a country that works for all who live in it. Our country is bigger than any of us, and its standing in the world affects the fate of all who come from or live in it. As leaders, it is our duty to advance the well-being of all our people and of the country."

Whatever eventually happens at the apex Court of our land even as Atiku clearly stated that he would abide by their decision on the matter, the fact remains that the Waziri of Adamawa as he is popularly hailed by his numerous admirers has once again stepped into the arena to rescue, redeem and or deepen our democracy which ordinarily should be founded on justice and the rule of law.

Like he did to Obasanjo's vaulting third term ambition, Atiku has again demonstrated that democracy is about the overall interests of the entire populace and what is right, just and honest and not about any single individual masquerading as a leader.

ATIKU ABUBAKAR AND HIS MANY ANTI-DEMOCRACY BATTLES

Since 1988 when the Late Musa Yar' Adua convinced Atiku to join politics, not many may be aware of the numerous political battles he has fought and won and the political rivers the former Customs Officer has equally crossed. Atiku was an integral part of the Late Shehu Yar'Adua's political movement which eventually transmuted into the People's Front of Nigeria, (PF) which had "the pursuit of justice, peace and service" as it's motto and "People First" as it's slogan. It bothers reminiscing that Atiku as a big spender in politics does not believe in keeping money idle. It has to be used to make money or to advance a good cause. This clearly brings to mind his recent personal and selfless undertaking to get to the root of probing Tinubu's academic qualifications in far away Chicago.

No doubt therefore that Atiku had influence within the then new Party and his personal qualities of good human relationship attracted many to him and he thus became a rallying point within the Party. Even when he alongside the other members of the Yar'Adua group, Atiku decided to join the Social Democratic Party, SDP, he continued and sustained his utmost goodwill. It is on record that he not only brought SDP to his then Gongola State but personally funded and sustained the Party.

From his quest to be Governor of Adamawa State and his actual emergence upon the return of democracy in 1999 as the Vice President of Nigeria in 1999, Atiku has remained consistently consistent with his principles and values as a true democrat. These reasons made him stick his neck tall to fight the attempt by his boss, then President Olusegun Obasanjo to alter the constitution and contest for the highest office in the land for the third term.

During a strategic engagement meeting with the National Assembly members in Abuja in his campaign for the 2023 Presidential election,Atiku had revealed that it was his intimate relationship with the National Assembly members in 2003-2007 that gave him success in truncating the third term ambition of Obasanjo. “During my tenure as vice-president, I developed a very intimate relationship with members of the National Assembly and it was that relationship that enabled us to stop the third-term or the life Presidency attempt by President Obasanjo", he disclosed.

ALL EYES NOW ON THE APEX COURT IN THE LAND

With the welter of public discussions now trailing the Tinubu certificate saga both locally and globally, this must be a very defining moment in our nation's history. The facts as they say in Law simply speak for itself (Res ipsa loquitur). Will the apex Court rely on the facts of the law or on technicalities as has traditionally become the morning order of the day in most of our Nigerian Courts?

There's no gainsaying the fact that the multiple exhibits tendered before the Supreme Court by Atiku are so instrumental to the determination of the issues formulated by parties at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal that failure to admit and use them in their decisions could spell doom and make a further mockery of the Nigerian justice system.

Whereas, all the answers to the posers and fears are in the womb of time, it is significant that I draw the attention of their Lordships at the apex Court to the wise words of Aquinas, otherwise referred to as the corruption of law as quoted in Raymond Wack's Philosophy of Law, " A government that abuses it's authority by enacting laws which are unjust (unreasonable or against the common good) forfeits it's right to be obeyed because it lacks moral authority. His older contemporary, Hugo de Groot, popularly called Hugo de Groot (1583-1645) in his influential work, De Jure Belli ac Pacis, insists that, "even if God did not exist, natural law would have the same content. This meant presumably in Grotius's wisdom that certain things were 'intrinsically wrong'- whether or not God decrees them; for, to use Grotius's own analogy, even God cannot cause two times two not to equal four!".

In conclusion therefore, it would be a very patriotic duty, just like Atiku had done in his pursuit of facts and truth in the very contentious issue of Tinubu's certificate saga to allow truth, justice and honest to prevail. For that is only what is capable of birthing a new Nigeria and a democracy anchored on strong institutions with distinct separation of powers in which the citizens can indeed bank on the judiciary as the last hope of the common man!
