zoe iyke: I hav IELTS exam to write by 17 of august in PH and I hav nt strted readin due to my tight work schedule,do u tink I can stil meet up nd pass d exam,r ur preparatory materials in hardcopy, cos I am havin dificulties comprehendin som of d online materials.
Our brains are different o. I study online. So many sites. I have a lot of them if u will like to use them. They are free to practice and also u will be timed. There are books here @UI for IELTS but all are just theoretical no practice test except for the reading and writing. There's a site that rate speaking on skype but its so hard because of mtn fastlink wahala. Some site also rate your writing, free for 2 write ups. I feel you just have to create time for yourself. There are loads of exercises on the internet. Maybe some weekends. I'm self employed so I study freely. Also, I am a constant reader if I don't do that na miracle or fluke to pass. (Known that for long). Some people prepared for just one week and scored their desired marks. But for me? Hmmm. That's why I registered since june. If u knw u are capable then no prob. But I will advise @ least 2 hrs daily on a test. It will do u a great good. Especially in writing,I learnt abt some phrases and adverbs used to describe things, time and surprises. Some people claimed they don't need training at all. I found out that this exam locks simple but uhm...I'll advise u take some time to study o.

ferdimako: No, it has to be theirs. You can be scheduled to speak that day, a day before that day or after exam day.I just registered via online.I am preparing for mine on Sep 21 in Abuja. This is what am after now for my PR moves.
great,God will surely answer our prayers, we will all get our desired scores IJN. mine is for AUG 29th and sincerely i have read almost all the free practices online now i feel like im getting lazy because i have nothing else to read, just doing revision all over and over again. my problem is the speaking and i am still very scared about it... i pray God help me...i looked myself in the mirror and practice but the wahala be say i just cant stop laughing. i talk alone now even when i'm walking alone. its just so sad i'm the shy type,i cant even look into my hubby's eyes when we practice together, i just dey laugh...so unserious about the speaking o. I AM EXPECTING A REAL MIRACLE

A12345: . Wishing yoU success in your IELTS. TasTafe has responded on my application. They agree to send me an offer as soon as they agree on a fixed resumption date in Feb 2014. I've written to them to inquire if they accept IELTS GT for admission (seems its easier scaling through the GT than the Academic) I have attempted the IELTS GT before some years back, got 6.5. Iam still awaiting their response on this.I have some materials for the IELTS dowloaded already and a recorded disk for the speaking session.Guess you aя̩̥̊ε̲̣̣̣̥ still in IB.you could reach me on 08186223076
Yes I was told the same, so I haven't been issued any letter of offer from tastafe.I applied for nursing and I was told some c'mtte will have to sit before knwing d commencement date. Anyway, its good cos I have time to do stuffs. Had letter of offer from other schools just waiting for tastafe to decide which one is best. However it was clearly stated on their site somewhere that academics is required.( I'm not sure sha). All the same I've been studying with ieltsbuddy.com. Ielts-exam.net. tcyonline.com and entest. Loads of them. Praying for God to crown all our efforts (amen). I'm still in IB. Though my exam is in lagos.

Dear Jxxxxxd,

Thank you for your enquiry to study at the Tasmanian Polytechnic.

I have attached a copy of the 2013 VET Course Guide for international students. You can use this booklet to find out about the courses on offer and what you will need to do to in order to apply.

Please note that the direct entry score for most of the certificates at the Tasmanian Polytechnic is an IELTS result of 5.5 overall with no band less than 5.0. We can offer you English before your mainstream course if you need help to gain this score.

We still have spaces in all of our courses for 2014. I have attached a copy of the application form, if you would like to apply please complete it and return it to us with the required documents.

I will then be able to give you an offer that is conditional on you gaining an IELTS result of 5.5 overall.

Chubi4show: Sorry for the late reply. My package has been taken by a friend whose exam is for august 29th, here in Port Harcourt. Like I stated in my previous post, the british council package isn't even enough for preparation. I spent more time on ieltsbuddy.com because I found everything I needed there. You need not be afraid because the secrets to success are preparation, courage and determination.

The following were the tips I used:

1. I made judicious use of the time. When you start, especially in reading and writing, you will find out that the time is not even enough. Bearing that in mind, I read the questions first before locating the answers from the comprehension. I did that because of the voluminous nature of the comprehensions... In writing, make sure you use link-words like: however, therefore, in contrast etc especially in comparing things. You are allowed to use pen or pencil in writing. I used pencil though, so-that it will be easier for me to erase if I make mistakes in spellings. By so doing, your work will be neat....

2. In speaking and writing, make sure you back-up your points with good examples related to the topics of discussion. Do not try to change your intonation in speaking, strike the point and elaborate on it because you have a limited time to speak, make sure you are not nervous, maintain eye-to-eye contact with your interviewer, maintain your tempo etc.

3. In listening, you have to ensure that your head-phone is working properly. When you start, listen attentively to the conversation and jot your answers in your question paper first so you won't miss out. Remember the tape is played once, so if you miss any answer, let it go and focus on others else you will miss everything....

I think these tips will help in your preparation. Remember to pray and work very hard. I wish you success in advance.
thank you so much, i am getting braver...lol, i pray to share my goodnews soon too. thanks

Chubi4show: I,m deeply indepted to you, my e-family members especially aunty Jenny for your help and support so far. I have been a follower of this thread from the beginning because I found it both informative and educative even if this is my first comment here.

I wrote my IELTS test on the 8th of this month, the same day ferdimako wrote in Port Harcourt. Below is the detail of my result:

Listening: 6.5
Reading: 6.0
Writing: 7.0
Speaking:7.0
OVERALL: 6.5

I want to thank God and ferdimako in a special way for introducing www.ieltsbuddy.com. I studied very hard with it especially in speaking and writing because the N4k material I bought from the British council was not even enough for preparation. I want to advise others preparing for IELTS no to limit themselves to the N4k material, instead make judicious use of www.ieltsbuddy.com because everything you want is there.

Its quite unfortunate that ferdimako could'nt make up to the minimum requirement. There is an alternative which mcdon60 stated. I will advice him to submit his score to UB and wait for their decision.

I want to complete my application for master degree in civil engineering or mining engineering in UB and UNSW.
Once again, thank you so much for your help and support. .
Pls is there a way I can get the british council package. I was at their lagos office on monday and I was told as at then that they don't have it. I'm practising with ieltsbuddy.com and also roadtoielts.com but now I'm scared considering fermadiko's scores anything can happen o. My exam is for august 29th. Pls help me.

jennykadry: 1. I did tell someone on this page that studying the 6 months aged care /community service is a waste of time. I always advise people to save their money. If you have interest in community or health work, then do nursing.

2. ^^^6 months course is a waste of time, especially in aged care.

3. Yes you can work in Australia especially if you've paid some semester fees in full, you can get a job and save but all that depends on your cost of living, look at a cheap place to share with or rent with someone, that would help in reducing the bills and all that payment ish.

4. Some people just use sponsor acct to pave the way for them to get into the country first. Some sponsors can only go as far as showing their acct statement and do not want you touching their money. As long as you pay your fees sponsor acct or not, they don't make a fuss about it
Thanks so much ma, i forgot to ask if its advisable to use someone outside naija as my sponsor(florida)? and does bta applies to someone on a student visa ma?
thanking u in adv
TravelRe: General Australian Visa Enquiries by posdream(f): 8:44pm On Jun 17, 2013
RedReact: Maybe you do it this way; try and look for a diploma program that will take more than a year and then register for its certificate course program so that you can graduate to a diploma program after you are done. That way, you get money saved a little, and also get your pathway to PR cleared for you.
If you can't find such, then maybe you go for an advanced diploma, but will come at a high fee again (try so many colleges, as you may find cheaper ones).
noted thanks.
TravelRe: General Australian Visa Enquiries by posdream(f): 12:29am On Jun 17, 2013
mcdon60: there are a lot of cheap VET colleges in Australia where you can pay $6,000 and $8,500 tuition per session and would require you to pay between $1,900 and $4,200 tuition deposit for your eCOE. For you not to have issues with your visa being granted or avoid No Further Stay visa condition all because of our assesment level in Nigeria (Assesment level 3 i.e high risk level or high tendency of running away), why not simplify thimgs for yourself and go for a 1.5 yrs or 2yrs diploma course which also put you in a better condition for PR after 2yrs of study if a potential employer is wiling to sponsor you. Your visa will automatically allow you to work part time for only 20hrs per week during term times and unlimited hours during holidays but don't go solely to australia thinking you will work to pay your tuition except you want to augument it because to get a part time job is not easy except for some few success stories and most importantly, it will affect your performance or attendance accademically and once that hapens, you will be reported to immigration immidiately. I wish you all the best.
thanks i shall look into that also...i've seen VET prog so many time i though they are meant for PR n not for international student.if that is possible i shall do as you've said. Thanks.

RedReact: ^^^
Don't you think that route of extending stay via going from certificate (6 months) to Diploma (12 months) to Advanced Diploma (2 years) going to cost you money? because that is the you can apply for a PR, except you are being sponsored by a company after you might have done a Certificate + Diploma programs.
thanks what do you suggest? yes the money is going to be a big problem, i have just been thinking. do u feel i apply for diplomas straight? most courses are 1 or 1.5 yrs and thats not up to 2 year course. moreover the cost are so bogus. certs tuition are cheap i dont just know im clouded here sincerely.

jennykadry: Lol @ accent, let me tell a story. I have been accused of having two different accents. English and Australian shocked These people need some ear drops to clear their ears. I argued with one physiotherapist for hours one day at work that I was not born in England and I am not English. For where....

A nurse once told me that I say "NOT-AT-ALL" like "not-a-all". You kidding me? I talk very fast that's why I miss out the T in the "at"

My parents complained about my accent being too strong but then told me mine was icing on the cake compared to my kids, cos they can never understand those ones at all grin grin It's funny hearing my parents ask them to repeat themselves and my kids getting frustrated cos they've said the same thing 50 times over, sometimes they just take a deep breath and not continue grin

My best accent..........Is Irish. I am beginning to love canadian though.
Hello Aunty jenny,
I've been waiting to see a post from you...i have but a knotty issue here ma,
1. is it possible to grant me visa for my 6 months course in Aged Care/community service work/cert iv in youth work (ANY OF THE 3 i haven't applied though)
2. is it possible for me to quickly switch to another course after the 6 months course to prolong my stay as a view towards the PR which i have read in prev posts.
3. i am planning to pay for my tuition in full from here. can i work to raise money for the other course to prolong my stay.
4. if i wasn't able to use my sponsors acct to pay tuition will that hinder my chances?

I know you are always busy ma but i will appreciate a thorough explanation ma. thanking you in adv.

ferdimako: The best accent I love is Amaerica's but I won't be heading there for now. Please don't try to force a foreign accent that day, they want your cohesion, tenses and parts of speech and idioms too that day.Anything clear with some good vocabulary.

Anybody can act as your sponsor, you could just link the person to your course with a letter of explanation to that effect and a sworn affidavit of support.
Thanks ferdimako. But I don't understand. Will the money of the sponsor get affected. And like how much will guarantees my visa. I'm going for a 6month course first. I was thinking of paying my tuition in full from naija before going then work to pay the next course of another 1year. Just to meet aunty jenny's advice on d PR stuffs. I don't knw if I'm wise sha. But the only money I can get is d tuition that's why I'm keen on d sponsors money o. Make debt no come heap for my neck. I hope its just to show sha.

[quote author=ferdimako]You can remain shy but that day let it go for only 15mins. Free yourself and get talkative! That site dealt with the writing, just go through the whole thing which involves almost all topics.

I hope you are familiar with different things of the world. Like my writing had the first part as comparisons of different internet uses in a UK city in 2007 and 2009 in a bar chart and I played with a third,a quarter,two-fifths etc alot and the part two was students and schoolchildren are encouraged to get smarter than other when they should work like a team,do the disadvantages outweigh the advantages? I introduced the talk, wrote a little on the disadvantages and jumped in fully on the advantages and concluded with them.

Please make use of your pen here, because when you make a mistake, you just strike it and rewrite without killing your time. When you use a pencil, you will be struggling to erase before restarting and that is a time-killer! Remember no time!

My reading had story 1 as deforestation and its effects on different kinds of Apes, the second one was MBA and why it does not get to the workplaces and why researches keep it that way and the third one was on a research on how music is helping disabled folks. I was reading the questions and getting the answers from the paragraphs and it worked for me.

My listening was alright, it would have been better if we had individual wireless headsets on. Some people at the back complained of not hearing,so they took them back and we used the public-address system and I didn't hear my very first answer. I used my sense to put no as the answer because there was no limit when the guy was inquiring about how to attend a concert.Another answer passed me and I used my sense again to put down, internet as it was for 3hrs free.So try hard to follow the conversations but please read the speeches on your booklet before that and if you get lost, don't worry about it so that you don't miss what is coming too.

My speaking was cool. The guy is a Nigerian, so no accent problem for me and he asked my names,if I work and study. Answer the questions and try to expatiate. He won't tell you to, but that is your job. Sometimes he will urge you on, keep talking.

[/quote
