You can buy and drink whatever claimed brand you like but the true remains that there is no glo, zenith bank and Dangote company in London... However, I dont support this present government but some things make Nigeria look stupid that I will never condone

Will dangote be paying the fine?
Will they make the records public?

This is not a bad policy in my opinion. It will help boost local ad, local league and create job opportunities

I don't like Lai Mohammed for anything, but I think he has a point. If we must grow in this country, we must protect our own. This is a nice way of compelling these companies to produce their ads in Nigeria and help the local media and creative industry grow. Do you know how much Dangote, Zenith, glo and Access Bank spend to run ads and sponsor programmes on CNN?

Again, Lai Mohammed didn't ask them to stop advertising, however, he wants to encourage the local content development industry to grow. That's why he made it clear that the fines will go to local content development. "The half a million will go to the Content Development Fund.”

You see, Nigerian films are some of the most seen in Africa and elsewhere in the world because we like it. Nigerian music displaced American hip hop and R&B in Nigeria's clubs, parties and radio stations because the former administration enacted and implemented local content laws. Today, Nigerian music has grown to the level of winning Grammy awards.

My point is, we need to encourage local content development as a way of strengthening our country and creating jobs. However, other sectors have to follow suit, including the health and education sectors to end medical tourism and overseas education respectfully. While at it, they must improve our system significantly.

If you take your head out APC's ass perhaps you can breath and think better..

You gave an example with Nigerian movies and music but I'd like to ask if foreign music playing stations and musicians were sanctioned or killed to promote ours. The local industries, grew up, competed against the norm and won thus breaking foreign music's influence in of the Nigerian.

Now can you say same about our broadcasting industry? Do you watch NTA? Lai took a whooping $500M to "restructure and revive" the NTA. He told us it was going to be CNN standard after he was done but see NTA's graphics in 2021! Simply appalling! Government fiat can never drive profitability in any business and the earlier we know that, the better

Many companies left Nigeria to the neighboring countries because of unstable electricity in Nigeria. This causing increase in unemployment in Nigeria. With this policy now, hope the few remaining companies will not elope too.

A government that does not lead by example. They should start by changing all their foreign cars to Innoson Motors, first, before they start implimenting the no adverts on foreign stations. Hypocritical leaders.

What I don't understand is that, their major market is in Nigeria but you are paying foreign media for ads... Dumbest thing to do.
Why won't they pay foreign media for ads? How many people people watch our local TV stations? Why are people not watching local TV stations? Instead of them to improve our local TV stations to attract larger audience, they are chasing shadows. They knew that this multinationals will prefer to continue advertising with foreign media and pay the fine which the thieves in power will in turn loot... Local Content Fund my ass...

Nope, I beg to differ.

Huncle, there's a local content law that compels Nigerian radio and TV stations to play Nigerian music more than foreign music. So, the local industry didn't just grow; it grew because there was legislative support.

I couldn't even make out the point you were making because you are more interested in attacking the man for what he said or did in the past as opposed to tackling the topic at hand.

You let emotion becloud your sense of reasoning.... Who is buying Dangote cement in USA? As far as I am concerned, the major market of Guinness is Nigeria...
The amount of ignorance in this post alone is worth wearing like a cologne! Guinness is an Irish Company and it is brewed in well over 50 countries and sold in over 120 countries across the world. Guinness Nigeria is a subsidiary of Diageo Plc which has its HQ in the UK.

The shittery and Tomfoolery of Dangote does not concern me. How you intend to restrict a global brand such as Guinness, Coca Cola and Pepsi just because they sell in your country is the height of foolishness for me.

And no, the major market of Guinness is the United Kingdom. Nigeria comes second while Ireland, its origin comes third.

Again, I understand why y'all defend Buhari. I will too, if I reason like you.

What he's saying is even meaningless.
CNN broadcasts in Nigeria. So how do you group them as foreign. Just as nta broadcasts in the US and run ads there.
Most of the ads are shot by Nigerian companies in foreign countries, just like psquare used to do.
Guinness and even Glo will argue they are international brands whose business are not limited to Nigeria only so you really can't summarily group them as Nigerian companies as Lai is attempting.
That's why I said he's not being practical.

What local content law nonsense? Nigeria music and movies worked extra hard to where they are now. Giving their win to the government is simply nonsensical and stupid because they earned it.

Then, you lost this the very moment you went partisan. That I hate the vegetable at Aso Rock doesn't mean I have lost my sense of decency to hope for the best for my country! I doubt if Lai Mohamed said this, I have to watch this clip.
This is something I have always argued with friends about, so many ads esp 2019/2020 year clearly disregarded the Nigerian persons and environment in their ads. Utterly disrespectful.
I hope with this fine, they will do the right thing.
No more Messi and Ronaldo doing Pepsi ads, strictly local league players or Nigeriam themed ads for all multinational companies.

It's sad Lai Mohamed is getting all the credit for coming out to say this and we don't get to meet the deep thinkers who tot this ideas out (they have existed tho I believe but they were disregarded).

Any Nigerian or multinational company who have goods and services running in Nigeria and have intentions to air jingles on radio or TV must strictly involve the Nigerian persons and environment clearly, be it live play or animations.

This way the Nigerian society can be viewed from overseas and thus promoting our abilities.

Unless that company is brand not existing in Nigeria but wants to air its ads regardless in the country.

The money for advert goes to MultiChoice not CNN or SSport. I want you to understand that when your product is attractive. People will flock to it.

NPL is trash compared to other leagues in Europe. As a business man, I won't spend a Koko advertising there to get access 500k fans (excluding the corruption involved in the league as regards advert) when I can access 10m people on a weekly basis.

Sorry to quote you again. The former adminstration you're referring to will be OBJ. But you'll be doing the man a huge disservice if you think it's just the law that led to our music industry booming.
The man actively supported, funded and encouraged the local artistes and entertainers. The artistes also did their jobs well by moving with trends and pushing out contents that youths easily could identify with.
You can't legislate preference. Rice is a candid example.
Even the epl which OBJ banned in the hope that it will encourage our youths to watch the local league, did it happen like that? Compare that with enyimba whom OUK actively supported. They became so popular in the East that at a point, they were making a decent profit.
You can't legislate economic and social preferences into existence. At least not in a free market. It's about going the whole hog.
