The person will begin to see something that is not normal, as though is normal and a solution to the thing disturbing them at that moment. To me, i think break up should be discussed between the two lovers and the agreement reached before carrying it out, to avoid what is called "withdrawal syndrome" which depression is one of the syndrome that follows a heartbreak.
