did you know the type of job he is doing? Wether the business he is doing Will enable him to raise such money within six months or is only house rent he came to City to pay, he didn't have any other need to cater for. If landlord evict you every year any house you rent what will become you?

The landlord owns the property and has liberty to withdraw it anytime as long as she gives 6months notice as stipulated by law. His personal issues is really not the business of the landlord. Its his responsibility to sort himself out.

Your landlord or landlady is a lord and at such your woman should not have any issues with them, teach her to avoid and overlook in future time.

I understand things are tough at the moment, even my rent has since expired April, but I got a call on Friday from my caretaker that the rent has been increased by 50%. I still had meet the landlord and appealed to him that the increase is a wrong timing and that he should still kindly accept what use to be. He told me he would think it through.

But if he still stands his ground, is his property, I either pay or move out.

My dear, brother kindly make peace and move on.

Don't forget to beg your madam not to make trouble with anybody.

Apologise to the caretaker for the insult, apologise to landlady for the disrespect your woman gave.

Then move on bro.

Stop saying what you don't know. Yes this a contractual agreement but at the same time you give notice for eviction for any tenant a minimum of 6 months .

Stop this wicked mentality and slavery thinking . Stop treating people like poo. A landlord today may become homeless tomorrow. God forbid but no one is sure of what tomorrow brings.

I advice he approaches judge funmi's court and get a relief. It all depends on how much time and risk you're willing to take . Go get another apartment and make sure you sleep here too sometimes. Also ensure you join the caretaker in the suit

Meanwhile should in case of future , caution your wife to be respectful to her host. And stop being unnecessarily domineering on people's properties. She rented apartment it wasn't bought .

If the landlady has grown up children, or diabolic it will be another story you won't like to sit down and think about.

There are houses. The problem is that most people looking for a house, their budget is always a problem.

If the money is there, he will see a house within 3 days. But if he is working based on budget, it will take him time to find the one that he will like that will meet his budget as well.

There are alot of new apartments springing up every now and then but the rent na die.


Truth is there are houses and within his budget in the same area.

In most areas house rent is slightly variable except in exceptional cases. Most houses run around the same rent.

It's an inconvenience but he can move sharp sharp if he wants to.

I don't why people have dumb mentality. A landlady and a tenant cannot quarrel and settle in peace anymore.

I choose to pay the rent increase last year in order to let peace reign. On a norms, I would never pay for such an increase( I mean from 200k to 250k) Now, I just got a letter delivered to me this morning which is a notice to quit as my rent just expired last month.

Normally, when my rent expires or about to, the caretaker will call me and ask when will I be renewing it but this time I didn't get anyone at all which means they actually planned it before now.

They didn't even call me for a meeting to discuss, who does that?

And on the letter, there was no reason stated on the quit notice and it's a 6 months eviction notice. I spoke to my lawyer and she said that's how they do these days issuing quit notice without prior notification even when you're paying constantly.

When I went to see the caretaker, he told me it was because I was absent in the last meeting that was held in the compound. What trash! I rained curses on him to the extent that he couldn't voice out a word again. Apparently, he was shocked as I'm always very gentle.

Are they sharing money in the meeting or what? Or I would leave my business and be in a meeting on a weekday when I can always get what was discussed in the meeting from people that were there.

The reason didn't even go down well with me as it got me really annoyed. I have decided to park out but I want to make sure they see pepper.

Can I stay up to a year or more before moving out?

Please I need your advice, thoughts, and ideas. Thanks in advance and pardon my typos as I'm typing from my phone.
You can't make your landlady see any pepper except u be wizard move out quietly don't get bad name or fight anyone God will build your own house for you you will become a landlord too then you will know why somethings are just as it is

if this is true and you're given enough time under the law to quit I see no reason why you'll have to drag anything with them.

as a tenant I can tell you categorically that that's the way nigeria landlords behave at least 85% of them .

see , you don't make unnecessary problem ! the only thing I learned and want you to also learn is that since you don't like the way they treated you , never treat someone like that cos one day you're gonna be a house owner too and that's what God want you to see.

live in peace with them , behave as if nothing happened but plan your way and God's gonna do the rest .

it's just a passage in life and fighting temptation will only makes you strong. ABI make we begin tell you wetin our eyes dey see .

He can simply claim the landlord has refused to give him time to move out after the expiration of his tenancy. Been there,done that. My last response to you on this issue.

Ogbeni they have served you notice, they even gave you 6 months sef which is legal, some landlords once your rent expires its 7 days notice oo because you are a tenant at will and it is also perfectly legal in Lagos.

Your rent expired last month and you didn't deem it fit to even try to go and see either the caretaker or landlady, you just lockup waiting for who will remind you abi.

this means you have six months to look for an apartment without disturbance from caretaker or landlady, without paying Rent.. Just dey find house small small and dey stay free house, when it is left with 1 month to go(to the six months notice you were given) you pack out...

Lol. Look at this ignoramus. I already live in a saner country. Tenants like the OP would have been evicted a long time ago. The law protects both tenants and landlord. The landlord has a right to legally evict the tenant. The tenant cannot "make trouble" as the courts are quick to rule on such matters. No be by force to be tenant. Also Nigeria is not as lawless as you think. If a Landlord follows due process with a lawyer, that tenant would be out of the place in not time. I'm currently dealing with a tenant like the Op. This man does not pay rent on time. Infact he's still owing last year's rent. I will be serving him a quit notice shortly. Let him go fight with his stupidity.

According to the law, a landlord does not need a reason to evict a tenant. It's his/her property. They can evict the whenever they like. However, it must be done in accordance with the law. A tenant like the OP with yearly lease gets a 6months notice. The landlord in this case is actually follow due process.

Husband is heaping insults on the caretaker, wife is picking fights with the landlady, una both match unaselves very well. Very troublesome couple, I hope you don't break each other's heads when you eventually marry.

The number of people attacking that FTC's post shows that there are a lot of problematic tenants in this country. Can you people even listen to yourselves? So the landlady is evil for giving op who doesn't intend to renew his rent quit notice. Did she build the house for charity? Most of you people are business owners, will you give your goods for free to someone simply because he doesn't have the money? Go to your saner climes, who will allow you stay rent free for six months after given a quit notice? You will wake up one morning and see your things are being thrown out and there's nothing you can do about it.

When in Rome, act like the Romans. The landlady wants to hold weekly meetings, nothing stopping you from attending at least once a month. But you want to show you're not a pushover, look where it has landed you. Better go and gather money to rent another place at the expiration of your six month notice
