Good point.

Even if he gets the touted 2M Naira a month net pay his former boss is getting as a Security guard, that translates to maybe £2,500 net per month. Now if his 4 kids need child care so Mum and Dad can go to work, at £1,000 per month for a registered child minder, his net pay will not cover his 4 kids monthly child care costs talk less of the more than £1,000 rent to accommodate his family of six.

This is before he factors in the fact that his kids will be bullied in school by both black and white kids for their accent and their brilliance and affinity for study. Does he want to put his kids through such. The story of Damilola Taylor the young 10 year old Nigerian kid stabbed to death in London by some school mates because he was a brilliant student comes to mind and this resulted in his parents divorce as his Dad did not want the Mum relocating the boy to school in London.

If he jacks in his 600K naira montly job in naija where he is treated with respect to go abroad as a "student" with limited working hours and start relying on menial jobs to house and feed a family of 6 he is in for heartache the likes he has never experienced before in his life.

My advice to him is to stop comparing notes with his former boss and friends abroad as they are not telling him the FULL story especially the DOWNGRADE to their status in having to resort to menial work after living a middle class life in naija.

How old can his eldest child be before the parents are allowed to leave other siblings under his or her care to go to work and return?

Lol. I speak from experience, can't say same for you. Don't sit in your home and give baseless analysis.
There's a stiff competition in the job market globally. Even Americans aren't having a good time right now.

So, being a salesperson even in the IT sector is no big deal.

[s]This was my situation last month or so.I and my husband analysed this issue well and decided it wasn't for us.We will hustle here so we can afford to send our kids abroad to school there.

Personally,I decided i will remain here in Naija.Nigeria is sweet if you know how to make good money legitimately.Forget am!That japa thing is good for people without anything reasonable here or People who just love to live abroad.

I am a Boss here in Nigeria, living a very comfy life without stressing myself to dress up and go anywhere in the name of work before i make money.Ask yourself why Dangote,Adenuga and Otedola haven't relocated permanently. All they do is visit and come back to Naija. They know they can't make the money they get in Naija anywhere else in the world.

I stay home 24 hrs and make over 1m monthly
in profit from my business, business coaching and Dropshipping system.Where i wan see this kind soft stressfree life abroad?

if i leave Naija to japa,i will definitely regret it!I am not up for starting from scratch. My take is that if you are comfortable here, chill o...You can go for vacation to relax.Abroad hustle isn't for everyone..

Make person no come go use im hand subscribe to modern day slavery!I can't live my sure bird in hand to look for 10 million in the bush..The grass isn't always greener!

I have relatives abroad so i know how it goes there..Many there don't have 10 million naira cash in the bank. They are living from paycheck to paycheck.Wheras People in Nigeria can afford to save 50m or more to pay in full for a house or car.Just think it through sha.[/s]

Nigeria too sweet because CORRUPTION & CRUDE SLAVERY thrives there and people like you and your husband can't do without cutting corners. This one think she Is addressing her Kids here. 600k Monthly Take home in naija is actually nothing. I have been there, done that. That's not much.

I relocated to the UK February this year, I make over 700k weekly here. In some cases, over 800k. I can send you my payslips if you doubt me.

Truth is, If you are very hardworking and you know how to think outside the box, you will definitely make it in UK. Money dey this Country sha as far as you are ready to put in the work and cover as much shifts as possible.

I came in with a dependent visa cos my wife is a Student. Hence, I don't have restrictions when it comes to work hours I wish to work/cover.

This Country na for hustlers. As in, na for people wen get strength and energy to hustle. One good thing is that, we are being paid weekly.

But the truth is, abroad isn't for everyone. If you no fit hustle for naija, e go hard for you to fit hustle here. In other words, if you lazy for naija, you go lazy here too.

Be that as it may, moving to UK is not a decision every hardworking Nigerian would regret.

NB: If you come in with student visa, your work hours tends to be restricted though. Hence, I will advise your spouse should apply via student visa route, and you guys should come together so that you will have enough time to hustle since your visa wouldn't have work hours restrictions.

And again, I think the money you are able to make here is also a function of your location/city. There are places where their hourly pay rate isn't quite high but you will still have made some millions in naira at the end of the month.

Personally, relocating to the UK was one the best decisions I have made in life. No regret.

How old should children be before they can be legally allowed to look after themselves in the UK?

Bro, I understand your argument. However, your analysis is not good enough for one to make an incisive decision.

Saying that you make over N700k a week in the UK is very misleading. You should have given your figures both in pounds and naira and also tell people how much of your income you spend on rent and other bills.

I know for sure that the amount you spend on accommodation for a month in the UK ( most parts) is the amount you'll spend on the same apartment in Nigeria for one year ( most parts).

In addition, you didn't mention the kind of job you do. Truth is that, being hardworking is not about doing physical work. Some people (especially those that are brilliant) hate jobs that require more physical strength than mental strength.

My advice to you.
My guy, I’ll encourage you to jakpa if you can. Think about the future of your kids once you’re able to settle abroad; they will definitely have a brighter future eventually. If you must, do it for your kids. Education for kids from ages 5 till the end of the their high school is FREE. You ain’t gonna pay a dime.

Life here may be tough, but if you follow who know road (the way I’m up and about), you no go ever miss road. I work as a security guard and net in an average of $2k every two weeks (I’m even on duty as I type this). Convert to the current exchange rate of #610/$1 (your guess is as good as mine). If I wasn’t here, my property I’ve been developing since 2018 won’t be at the current level it is right now.

My own true story.
I left Naija last year (26/05/21) for the US and I’m not regretting. I was working with one of the telecoms firm in Naija netting 680k monthly as a manager, yet I abandoned it for the opportunity to relocate to the US (though not with family yet, but plans are underway to bringing them this year).

Whoever is telling you to remain in Naija because you earn more than half a million doesn’t like you at all and would rather see you suffer along with them in that country. Tbh, there’s no future for Nigeria with this current and future dispensation; maybe in 20-30 years time. Only time will tell.

Check my history, I mostly waka pass and hardly comment on posts. But this one, I just have to give you my own two cents!!!

You don’t have exceptional skill… well, your friends didn’t lie to you. The truth is people aren’t leaving Nigeria because of the good jobs IMHO. People are running away from Nigeria.. it seems you do not have any reason to leave. If you find a valid one then we can talk about this… but as long as you are still contemplating, stay back in Nigeria

How about someone who makes $15/hr working 40hrs a week freelancing and has a potential to double the income in a year by getting more certifications. Is migration still a good idea?

@OP Listen to this Guy here and @MT.

stop listening to people that just migrated and think it is all rosy until the excitement clears.

I have lived in the UK for over a decade now and I am told my household income is in the top 85%(https://ifs.org.uk/tools_and_resources/where_do_you_fit_in) and I don't spend anyhow.
If I am in the top 85% and it's not that easy, I sometimes imagine what it is like for others.

Forget the enormous amount they tell you that you will be paid.
take away your tax first
(https://listentotaxman.com/) this is the real money that you have.

Divide your net income by 2 as half is most likely going to renting a house
Then you start taking out the other billings.

In your situation with 4 kids, except if they are in their teens, that is recipe for disaster.
The amount of stress you would be under and your wife would be under -- this causes a lot of rift in marriages
The top cause of divorce is not Adultery (https://www.howellslegal.co.uk/news/post/What-is-the-Most-Common-Reason-for-Divorce), they say it is unreasonable behavior, my brother money is the center of it all. when you can't provide as you have been doing, you become frustrated, the woman is frustrated and before you know it, everything goes downhill.

Oh lest I forget, why would a woman want to be suffering with you when with 4 kids she can claim single mother and the government will supply her needs.

If you were young, single or married with 1 child, I would have said come over but with 4 kids, please don't.

Instead, have savings, invest with your money, and save towards having your kids do Masters abroad.

Thank you for your analysis.

Why does it make sense for couples that don't have children yet? I'm asking because they will even have chikdren that are not yet teenagers. Is it that their children will enjoy several benefits if they're born in the UK? (Even if the parents are on study visa or are on 2 years post study visa)

not really. Many took up menial jobs because thats what was available. Even the IT sector is competitive. Visa sponsorship for good jobs is very hard.

We are saying the same thing. Its definitely competitive. It's all about the willingness to take that risk and work hard. With hardwork you would get there. But the think is most Nigerians seems to be greedy and are entitled. They want to come in and become CEOs from the get go. Nah bro, you'll have to work for it to get to the top.

If anyone thinks its too hard or too competitive, or unwilling to work from the bottom up, that person would be better off remaining in Nigeria. But if someone is willing to take the chance, not just for yourself, but for your kids and their future, then I would say go for it.

My grouse is with the people that are jobless in Nigeria that keep critizing those that are legitimately working hard to earn a leaving outside the country. But you never see them share stories of those that are making progressing.

i will advise you as a friend/brother will and then as an enemy.as a friend / brother i will say you are the most unqualified candidate to go abroad. you have 4 kids ? which in itself is not a problem if your name is dangote or otedola but for you ? its a burden that will sink you abroad. secondly you dont have any marketable skillset. and so you are most defnitely going to be doing manual labor or security work. so the question is what right thinking person leaves 600k per month to go and be doing manual labor abroad. i would even go as far as to say you are not even qualified to have a 600k job in nigeria because you said you are a salesperson so basically you are just one lucky bastard ( british slang ) and if i were you i would hold on tight to that job because there are 200 million people who want that job.

back to the abroad thing, someone told you he is making 2 million a month dong security work but did that low iq deceptive guy tell you what the cost of living is ? lets see so 2 million is 2600 pounds a month. thats 650 pounds a week. rent is 250 pounds a week, council tax is 30 pounds, water 50, light 40, tv license 30, feeding of 6 people is like 150 pounds a week, clothes for 6 people is like 300 pounds a week, internet 40 pounds a week, phone line is like 30 pounds a week, with 4 kids you need a car, car insurance is like 40 a week, gas like 40, road tax like 20, mot like 10, so when i add up all these expenses they come to 1030 pounds a week and so you can see that earning 650 pounds a week will not cover your expenses. someone like yu will have to earn 5000 pounds a month in the uk to survive ( thats 4million naira a month you have to earn ) and so your low iq friend is not telling you that the 2 million per month is too small. he is hoping you would think you are living for free with no expenses and all the 2 million is take home..and that is the reality of your situation

conlusion > you are hghly unqualified to go abroad unless you dont mind a life of misery and suffering and manual labor and council estates Where your kids would be beaten up by jamaican thugs everyday. YU BETER HOLD ONTO YOUR 600K JOB

NOW THE ADVICE ABOVE WOULD BE FOR A FRIEND OR BROTHER BUT TO AN ENEMY I WOULD SAY JAPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. GO TO THE UK. YOU WILL ENJOY YA LIFE cheesy cheesy
Sukkot my guy, lol at your kids will be beaten by Jamaican thugs grin

But this one, I just have to give you my own two cents!!!

but brother do you know that you have destroyed your life ? how do you go from being a manager at a telco company to being a flashlight carrying dog walking nightstick carrying rent a cop security guard in a mall in america ? i mean you went from being called oga and boss to being called ' african booty scratching rent a cop ass nigga ' by african americans, because we all know african americans love to abuse security guards. how do you go from making it to the top of the food chain in the most populous black nation in the world and you threw all that away to become a rent a cop in a mall in america ? you know i had a friend in your exact same situation. he was a manager at etisalat. a telco. he gave himself 4 years and in those 4 years as manager he studied the busness model and made contacts and after he left the company he created his own telco consultancy firm and the guy charges crazy money frm these telco companies. he bought a 600 million naira house in victoria island where he lives now and a vacation home in london. this is the kind of moves we expect from people who have made it to the top of the foodchain not to throw it all away to become a dog walking night stick carrying african booty scratcher torchlight flashng rent a cop ( the names african americans would call you ) in america. i mean are you really in a position to advice anyone ?

and all you people that destroy your lives and say it s because of your children, you people are ignorant as to the spiritual nature of this world. those souls have been in the world millions of years before and they just come through families and this time around God just passed those souls through you so as to just nurture and then release them into the wild when it is time but they do not belong to you. they just pass through you and each of these souls come pre-packaged with their own ORI aka their own destiny and karma. what will happen to them is already pre-packaged and cant be changed. you can take them to the USA all you want but if the destiny is to be terminated by a gangbanger or die in car accident or end up in prison in the usa that is just what is gong to happen. and so these souls are entities on their own who just happen to pass through you in the 3 dimensional world but they have been here millions of years and have passed through several families before and so to destroy your own life because of other souls who pass through you is a form of COSMIC CURSE and i dont know what you did or who you offended to acquire this cosmic curse but i would strongly be looking to do some cleansng ritual if i were you. you destroyed your life because of souls who are already pre-packaged with their own unchangeable destinies . in this life you are supposed to take care of your own soul and your own self first. all THIS NONSENSE ABOUT GIVING UP MY OWN LIFE FOR MY CHILDREN IS A FORM OF COSMIC CURSE. yall need cleansing

How about someone who makes $15/hr working 40hrs a week freelancing and has a potential to double the income in a year by getting more certifications. Is migration still a good idea?
