I'm saying being unable to produce them on demand is neither a crime, nor of the slightest relevance in assessing a candidate's eligibility for the presidency. I couldn't produce a primary school certificate if asked for one at this time, as I graduated several decades ago, and the small school I went to has since shut down with the death of its owner. Does that make me somehow a criminal? Does it invalidate my Ivy League degree?

If I were working for Atiku or Obi, and wanted to discredit Tinubu, there are far more with this school certificate thing is a Nigerian version of the "Obama birth certificate" faux-controversy, a cheap attack that allows for the expression of a dislike for a politician without admitting that said dislike is driven by base prejudice. In this case, said suspicion is further boosted by the fact that most of those pushing the story (not you) are the same ones who are certain that Tinubu is a drug baron (without any evidence other than a doctored JPEG) and who insist Peter Obi is a saint, even after he was caught setting up offshore accounts while in his second term as a governor.

You are just being unreasonably partisan. I expect someone with an Ivy League degree that graduated decades ago to be more reasonable.

Tinubu's certificate controversy did not start today. In fact it started the year he became governor. After he left government office someone tried to revive the certificate controversy, but was shut down by the Lagos High Court. Even though the murmurs about Tinubu's certificate down down, it did not completely ho away. Now that Tinubu has clinched the ticket of APC and on the cusp of becoming president, are you surprised that the certificate controversy are heating up again? If Tinubu has nothing to hide, why has he laid the controversy to rest for over 20 years. He still has between now and the elections proper to present the results and show people he is expecting their votes that he actually obtained the controversial certificates.

I have never referred as a drug baron. I am matured enough to to accuse people based on hearsay without concrete evidence. If this thread was about Tinubu's drug past, you will not see me commenting.

Comparing Tinubu's certificate controversy to Obama's birther controversy is disingenuous. Obama birther controversy was quickly shut down by Obama showing his birth certificate and hospital records showing he was actually born in the US. Even his main antagonist Donald Trump accepted and place the blame on Democrats. He said it was Democrats that first raises the issue, that he simply played along. Tinubu meanwhile has used every legal loophole to prevent people demanding and seeing the certificates.

You are right it is not that he does have the certificates he is probably hiding some bigger more damaging secrets. Like you said probably a change of identity .
AreaFada2:

At least the school you attended should be able to confirm them. No classmates at CGI or primary? Femi Arabisala who was at GCI same period denied ever seeing Tinubu there. He doesn't have old students association members he was there with?

We all understand Tinubu's dilemma. A lot of people back then reduced age or used other people's details for further education. One reason why there are so many people called "Tokunbo", for example. Most foreign born kids were brought back to 9ja in those days after their parents completed all their studies abroad. Papers of foreign born kids were used by several other people to travel abroad. Even me that is far younger than Tinubu, I had many foreign born kids and mixed race people in my hood. Anyone who grew up around universities back then will attest to it. Because many returning became lecturers or medics in teaching hospitals, etc.

Not saying Tinubu did same but just giving an example.

Tinubu is clearly an intelligent man who went to school. But his age and name in those school certificates probably don't match his current one.

The president is the Chief Law Officer of the Country. Attorney General performs that role on his behalf for legal expertise needed. Any Bill from the parliament/NASS not bearing President's signature is not law yet. Should such a person who committed perjury at various times become a president? An affidavit is a legal document and telling lies in it is a crime of perjury. If we want to restore 9ja, let's start with simple honesty from our leaders and ourselves. We must start adhering to at least the minimum standards.

I won't open my eyes go vote for a man who never had the courage to take risks in order to build and developed his state.
I will never vote for a man who never took his chances to make life meaningful to his people.
After all is said and done,he migrated his family go live in this same Lagos developed by the man u detest.
Take a history of ur favourite celebrities of Igbo descent.
Some of them migrated from this same Anambra during the era of peter obi to Lagos with only a oloythene bag to their name and slept under the bridge of Lagos with that dream of success cus they all saw the project of tinubu.shouks I list their names?
Psquare and Jude Okoye comes to mind.
There are others if u would like me to mention
We don't hate u
We just wanna have the right to vote our choice In a democracy

So you're telling us that Lagos was nothing before tinubu? or that Just like p.m yew, he became Lagos state governor and miraculously transformed the state from an agrarian economy to become the industrial, commercial, fashion hub of the country? So others before him and after him didn't factor in the development of the state? The legacies of our colonial masters that laid the foundation of Lagos being what it is now is not a factor right? Or that of the federal government whose former seat of power was Lagos ? otedola, jakande and co. and the various former military governors of the state did nothing? Its either y'all are kids or you're void of any knowledge whatsoever or you're just some bunch tribalists that prefers to be led by a world renowned corrupt politician to the land of doom to a bright, young, seemingly fresh, prospective personalty from another tribe. Even though I'm Yoruba, I'd never advocate or canvas for that man Tinubu.

I'm not in support of a Tinubu presidency, but that doesnt mean I give a damn about his primary 6 certificate.... That's what I would term "a chasing after the wind", a useless and pointless quest, same nonsense that was done with Buhari in 2015 and 2019.

I absolutely dont care about his primary 6 result; the man already presented a bachelor's degree which is way more tangible than a primary 6 result. There's no way a person would gain admission into the university in the US, study through it, successfully graduate and have a career without having passed through primary school first.

Like someone wrote here, if the man didnt go through basic education but was able to successfully go through university, then you're suggesting the man is a genius.

Which bachelor certificate did he present?

The stolen one or the affidavit.

INEC's requirement is a minimum of a WAEC result. The man already privided something higher, a bachelor's degree. After already satisfying INEC's requirement, why do you feel he's obligated to show you his waec result?

Why not present the minimum as required.

Does he have it or not?

It's very simple

MatrixCircle:

Let me ask you a question. Assuming that you are applying for a job that states that first degree is the minimum qualification, you then submit only your Ph.D certificate only without even showing proof of Waec, First degree and Masters degree to your employer to proof that you went through the NORMAL PROCESS that led to the acquisition of the Submitted Ph.D , for me it's a red flag. Everything has a PROCESS. Even the election he participated in went through a PRIMARY process before the main election come 2023. I also believe Amaechi, Lawan, Umahi , Osibanjo did not only submit thier highest qualifications but proved they went through the regular processes to arrive at thier various highest qualifications. I believe Prof. Osibanjo submitted FSLC, Wasce, First degree, Masters and Ph.D certificates and not only Ph.D .
What is the INEC requirement? That's the only thing that matters, everything else is secondary.

By submitting his bachelor's degree, he already satisfied the requirement and isnt under any legal obligation to provide further certificates. If he or other candidates chose to additionally provide other 'non-essential' documents, then fine! But if they dont for whatever reason (e.g with the excuse that the documents are lost), then they still havent breached the requirements.

Regarding your employment analogy, it's only in Nigeria I've seen employers requesting useless documentation thinking they're being thorough. I live and work in the UK and have changed jobs several times; only document I've ever submitted to employers was my MSc certificate (and MSc transcript at one point when my certificate wasnt available).

A man who has a confirmed university degree, you want me to go about bothering about his primary 6 result? Let's learn to stick to important issues in Nigeria please.

TINUBU CERTIFICATE

You will recall that there was a petition dated August 12th 1999 about the educational background and age of Asiwaju BolaTinubu written by Alhaji Jammed Seriki and Dr. Waliu Balogun - smith. They accused him of lying about his age in his nominating form to INEC.

Late Gani Fawenhinmi SAN went to court to seek for prosecution of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu up to Supreme Court. Supreme Court ruled that Tinubu CANNOT be Prosecuted by the police for alleged certificate forgery. That only Lagos State House of Assembly can investigate him. Then, June 4, 2013 one Dr. Dominic Adegbola asked Federal High Court Justice Saliu Saidu to re - open the suit filed by late Gani Fawehinmi in 1999. The suit was to compel IG of Police to commence investigation into alleged forgery. The court dismissed the case . The court said that the applicant went to sleep since 2007 when the “toga of immunity “ could no longer shield Tinubu and suddenly woke up when the matter is statute barred . So as at today , court has exonerated Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of any forgery even after leaving office . So what is the issue now ?

As a result of Supreme Court decision, Lagos State House of Assembly under Speaker Mamora (present Minister of State) opened the probe via a motion moved by Hon Tajudeen Jaiyeola Agoro and a 5 man ad - hoc committee was set up with Hon Omowoare as Chairman . The committee sent out letter of invitation to the two gentlemen that wrote the petition. Those guys REFUSED to substantiate their petition. The committee even went to the addresses those guys provided and they could not find them . However , Asiwaju Bola Tinubu was invited to answer.
Tinubu came with Femi Falana who wasn’t Anthony bus stop SAN then .

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu admitted to the needless errors being pointed out by the petitioners and that it was Senator Tokunbo Akifuyomi that did the documentation. Then he submitted a copy of SDP Senatorial candidate form dated June 1, 1992 in which he used to contest the 1992 Senatorial election and he won as a Senator representing Lagos West. That form he personally filled . Asiwaju Bola Tinubu attached the certificate of Richard Daley College and Chicago State University. Qualification was B.Sc Accounting. Now, INEC in 1999 committed an error in INEC form CF01 that bore a wrong date of 28th Dec 1999 instead of 28th December, 1998. Commissioner of Oath detected the error.

Tinubu could not complete his secondary school because of poverty. He decided to leave for greener pastures in the USA. He did a lot of menial jobs and suffered like every young man without a rich parents or uncles. After 5 years, he enrolled at Richard Daley
college in Chicago. Note, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu did not complete his education in secondary school, therefore the college offered him basic, remedial and academic classes like IJMB in local Nigeria. He passed his remedial courses and he was offered admission to Chicago University. He obtained Bachelor of Science in Business & Administration and his major was in Accounting. He had no scholarship like some of us did enjoyed. He was in Chicago University from August 1977 to June 1979 . He worked with Deloitte Haskins. Asiwaju Bola Tinubu was an employee of Mobil oil of Nigeria between Dec 1,1983 when Buhari, Babaginda, Dasuki, David Mark were preparing to overthrow Shehu Shagari and he used to pass though Dodan Barracks not knowing that fate would link him with Buhari later. He was there till May 17, 1992 .

Senator Afinkuyomi appeared with Prof Itse Sagay SAN too that he was heading the unit of Governor’s campaign responsible for processing of form and because of the rush and tense circumstances in Alliance for Democracy as per Guber primaries caused the confusion. Chief Gani Fawenhimi also appeared to give testimony. That the committee should determine if the law has been breached. Then Femi Falana appeared on behalf of Tinubu that no evidence has been led to show that Tinubu presented forged certificate to INEC. Chicago State University has confirmed that Tinubu was a student of their University and he secured admission through Richard Daley College . The committee later sought legal advice from Chief Fred Agbaje a honest lawyer, Olisa Agbakoba, Deacon Dele Adeshina NBA chairman Ikeja.

Finally the committee finding on the allegation of forgery was that “WE HAVE NO EVIDENCE that any forged document was presented to INEC” the only certificate presented to INEC was a transcript of CHICAGO STATE UNIVERSITY.
