Depends on the location and other teaching certification you have.

I know teachers earning way above 300k monthly.

For this Nigeria?

Abeg link me to the school address.... I'm ready to relocate to wherever it is....I'm very sure I'd be employed once there is vacancy.... I'm sure of my skills and teaching experience.

Please, share the address of the school... I'm seriously serious!

If you don't have any job you're currently doing I'll advice you to take the offer. With time you can approach parents to request for private lessons for the kids, that one pays more.

Most private schools are going through hell in this economy, and most parents can't even afford the ever increasing fees, and remember that they pay per term, whereras salary is per month. This means that whatever fees they collect from the students would be used to run the school for the next 3-4 months.

Now the problem here is that most students owe the school and refuse to pay, this would make the management look to alternatives means or even loans to pay you guys and run the school activities with hopes that when their student pays up within the month they can settle everything.... unfortunately in most cases this doesn't happen.

I have a relative that runs a primary school, who usually narrates her ordeal to me. There was a day she brought out her records and showed me debts of students over the years, I kid you not, those debts were running into millions. I really felt sorry for her.

It's not an excuse

A private school called me for an interview last week Monday. As a job hunter I'm always prepared for any interviews. So when I got there, It's was a 3 segments interview (written test, oral and micro teaching)

As a Bsc graduate in Accounting Education, I was given financial accounting, English language and current affairs for the written test interview. The account and English was WAEC standard questions. After the written test interview, the principal said he will call me for further interviews if i pass the test.

On Thursday morning, I received a call from the school inviting me for further interviews which is oral and micro teaching. When I got there, the principal was asking me loads of questions like why should I hire you? How many years experience do you have? How do you discipline a child? how can you make this school grow? Can we trust you with our female students? bla bla bla... After that we went to the classroom for the final segment which was micro teaching.

After everything, he employed me and we started discussing about the subject I will teach and the salary. The principal said I will be teaching Accounting, Economics and Marketing (ss1 - ss3), I said no problem.

What really got me angry was about the salary, he said he's willing to pay me 30k without negotiation.

As if that wasn't enough, he later said he can also call me anytime to teach any subject if the particular subject teacher isn't around. I was just laughing in my mind.

The principal was expecting me to resume today, he has been calling me since morning, I haven't picked his calls. I'm not a slave.

Mind you, this is a standard private school and my "least" expectation was 45k, Assuming he was willing to pay 45k, I would have resumed today.

Why are private schools so wicked? Is teaching job now a modern day slavery? I'm tired of this country.

Instead of resorting to avoiding his calls after accepting the job, you should have had the courage to tell him the kind of salary you wanted.

That way, everyone would go home in peace if no agreement was reached.

I beg to differ. Most private school like my own domt allow teachers to teach students at home, school lesson is directly to the school so no money comes to your pocket for that and when you want to organise your own lesson it is 50/50. But no parent will patronize you because the child just finished school lesoon and jumping to your own lesson again its a no no. My oga will say you want to do business in business

Op, if you can read this, you messed up big time. Only a fresh and myopic job seeking youth will not see the opportunities available in teaching environment. Apology tendered if this sounds insultive.

See, if I be you, I will take up the job because of the following additional opportunities that abound in teaching environment:

1. Extra-Moral lessons in the school can fetch you more income

2. If you're good in what you teach to the extent of being noticed by the School, the school, for the fear of losing you, may bargain for your salary increase.

3. In addition to (2) above, parents can hire you for the wards' private home lesson where your lesson fee will be determined by you.

4. In furtherance of (3) above, you night be lucky to meet parents that will not only like you but pick interest in lending you a helping hand in fulfilling your career outside the teaching job by getting you your dream job. I have friends who have good testimonies to share in this vein.

By ad large, teaching is basically for those who has the passion to impact knowledge and not for those who see it as a way of survival.

Guy don't expect that man to read your mind, take his call or call him yourself and tell him that you thought the whole thing and that 30k isn't good enough for you. Tell Him you'll love to take the job if the pay is up to 45k. He might negotiate it down to 40k with You.

You let the "no negotiation" statement scare You off.

You should negotiate and You'll see that, that same man will negotiate with You.

He cowed you, you on your part fall for it hook, line and sinker.

He said non negotiable, you should have asked why and take the discussion up from there...

Then make him understand you are eyeing at 45k starting salary...If he said no, you leave..If he was impressed with your interview and discussions, he will call you.

Rather than you chicken out like this.

Don't be a cheap product. In the face of unemployment, maintain your self worth. Do you know that if he picked this job, it will prevent him from seeing better opportunities,if people see value in you, they will be willing to pay and chase after you and that was y the principle kept calling him. Op please ignore that man.

Everyday he complained of sickness and he will be owed 3 to 5 month salary. What a life.

I'm switching to freelance writing soon. Was so elated when I earned 72k from Freelance writing in a week which is more than my salary. Leverage Youtube and Google to learn everything. Please please and please go get in-demand skills like Graphic designing, Web development and more.

I have not worked for an employer fully since 2015. Currently I earn 150k working twice in a week as a Digital marketer and Graphic designer for a startup.

I can't be a slave in this life. That's why when some low standard paying guys see me spending my hard earned money they think am into fraud or something else.

If you don't want to be a slave please learn some skills and if you even need to know how to go about it. I can be your mentor.

Am pained seeing this as I type. Please feel free to reach out so we discuss more. You have the spirit to succeed since you have the sense to discern what is not good for you
