Hey guys

I need advice on my application. Me and my wife are tired and frustrated at the moment.

My wife is at Canada on study permit.

I applied for SOWP via an agent(Tar global) June 18th, 2022 and did my biometric June 23rd 2023. The last update on my application was medical exam passed which was on July 22nd, 2022. Since then, there was not update on my application. My wife went to meet the MP for her province to make enquiries about my application Early Dec, he got back saying IRCC said they are not sure if I am eligible for SWOP hence her study permit is missing from the application. We contacted the agent about it, they sent a proof that her permit was uploaded. Anyway, My wife went to drop the study permit with MP 1st week of jan so he can send it to IRCC. 2 days later, IRCC confirmed(via MP) they have seen the permit. We should wait since we are still within the waiting period. Waiting period expired on Jan 18th, there is still no update.

Jan 31st, the agent contacted me that IRCC has changed the requirement for SWOP so they want to be proactive by sending my wife's Transcript and enrollment letter. Up till now, there is no update. I don't know what to do. Any advice can go a long way. Thanks

Timeline
June 18th: Application submitted
June 23rd: Biometirc completed
July 22nd: Medical passed
Dec 18th: MP confirmed study permit is missing
Jan 4th: We gave MP study permit so he can send it to IRCC
Jan 6th: MP confirmed that IRCC has seen the study

Congrats to everyone that got PPR recently.
Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Restricted: 2:29pm On Feb 02, 2023
Since the waiting period has lapsed, i think the MP is still the best person to go back to and your wife should make an emotional appeal. The MP can officially take it up now with IRCC. Also bombard them with emails and webforms but i think SOWP will be faster now since January student's visas has been processed.

We all will be congratulated soon.

Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by purespikes: 2:38pm On Feb 02, 2023
So, I applied for my SOWP and Visitor Visa in July, 2022 with the hope that before October, 2022, I would get an approval for one. Days turned to months and nothing happened. My Spouse and kids moved to Canada in August, 2022 and you can imagine the loneliness and frustration on both sides. I sent several webforms and emails to no avail. All I got was the generic response of IRCC dealing with volumes, bla bla bla. In November, 2022, I ordered my GCMS notes and it reflected that nothing was done on my application. Before that, I started contacting wifey's MP since September, 2022. While the MP responded that he made enquiries concerning my application, he was categorical that there's nothing he could do to influence any expedited action.

I got so frustrated. When I noticed that IRCC was attending to Visitor Visa at a faster rate having seen several PPRs for applications sent in January, 2023, I decided to apply for another Visitor Visa on 31st January, 2023. I asked my wife to send her current Letter of Enrollment, Transcripts and evidence of payment of bills like House rents and electricity bills and I used that for the new VV.

After submitting the new VV, I decided to send the same information via webform to IRCC for my SOWP with a letter that sounded like an appeal and a petition. I literally questioned why IRCC would attend to earlier cases and leave older ones unattended to. I told them of the damage the needless delay is doing to my family, especially my kids, who felt i have abandoned them. I added the following documents as well as the documents sent by wifey to the webform;

Previous visas to US, UK, France, and other countries
Marriage Certificate
6 month bank account statement
Current pay slip
Current letter of promotion
Company documents
E Medical sheet
Biometric slip
It was more like submitting documents for another SOWP.

Yesterday, I got a mail from IRCC Kenya acknowledging the webform and giving the same generic reasons for the delay, this time with a lot of admonition for patience. The mail is quite different from the usual generic one.
Lo and behold, my love letter dropped a day after (Today). I give glory to God. My eligibility did not even start, neither was my Biometric updated. The only update on the application was medical. Nothing else.
Here's my timeline;
Application submitted: 10th July,2022
Biometric completed: 6th July, 2022
Upfront Medical: April, 2022
PPR: 2nd February, 2023

Let me say this, I feel it is wrong not to apply for the whole family at once. I advise anyone who has the financial resources to do this once and for all. I followed some advice from the Study thread that I should apply for my family's Study permit 1st before doing my SOWP. The logic is that I would be the hometie. In retrospect, I felt it was a wrong move. I should have done the application at once since the financial resources were available.

I return all the glory to God Almighty

I advise that you send her current transcript and LOE through webform. Add your marriage certificate, evidence of payment of bills by your wife, your Biometric slip, medical sheet, current bank account statement and any other document that is relevant. If possible get the sign in details from the agent and take charge. Godspeed!

Please I sent my passport to Vfs last week but didn’t include the biometrics slip, is it compulsory, if yes what do I do
Kaycherry:

Well....I submitted a passport last week for someone...what I did was

Fill the vfs consent form
Go with the biometric slip and passport
Print out the passport request letter
Go the vfs btw 8 and 10in the morning...you do not need to book an appointment.
When u get there...u may or may not need to pay for courier to return the passport.

In my case ...they asked me to pay because the passport wasn't mine.

Thanks what I know...however u can check back...someone has dropped a detailed explanation on this.

@Makano, Skull4eva, aestake, and all respected leaders here, I have come to enquire how best to present our case.

Spouse is a student and she left in early Jan 2023 for a one-year Program with Co-op being inclusive. Her SP and WP are to expire Jan 2024.

We are planning to apply for OWP for hubby and SP for 3 kids of age (14, 11, and 9).

Hubby is the sponsor and has good travel history. Hubby works outside the shore of Nigeria

She also used home ties as detailed below in her SP application:

1. Ability and efficiency in supplying services to her community on her return to Nigeria.
2. it will increase career prospects
3. enable her to compete both locally and internationally.
4. mother-in-law and her 17-year-old cousin living with them.
5. promise to return to where she volunteered before she traveled; so that she can share knowledge
6. Set up a similar outfit (of study) in the future because her community has a shortfall in the area of skill acquired.
7. Together with hubby, they have landed properties in Nigeria.

what is the shortfall on this SOP since we (hubby and kids) are planning to apply for OWP and SP ??

Can we now use spouse's parents, hubby's mother, and land properties as home ties?

Is medical a must for hubby? if yes

Is Upfront medical okay since hubby travels a lot and IRCC can send them for medicals while hubby must have returned to work?

Do children need medical? if yes

Is Upfront medical okay since hubby needs to take them there as well?

Do children of age (14, 11, and 9) need biometrics?

GCKey for student or GCKey for hubby, which is preferable?

The big question here is when to apply? Though I have read people apply asap, some after 3 months, while others a year later

I will appreciate scrutiny and the best approach to the entire process.

Thanks, for your anticipated assistance team.

Hello guys,

I need help with my GCKey account, I was unable to login to my account for sometimes, it keeps taking me back to the sign in page. I filled a webform to complain about it and I was advised to open a new account and link my previous account to it. My issue now is that I have been unable to link the old account to the new one. Can anyone advise me on what to do.

This is not a problem. As advised, create a new account with the same email account but a different username. It will automatically prompt you if you would like to link the old account. It will also help you transfer all info from the previous to the new account. I did it because i faced the same issue last night. I got tired and created a new one and that was how I knew.

Please was your application alone on your old account or you had it with your child's application? If with your child, the new account you created when you linked it, did you find your child's application in the new account along with yours?

I have been trying to link my account but showing "not found", my application was cancelled by ircc and was asked to link and really don't know how to resolve this as I have tried every means and links, so please I don't know if your method above can also work for this situation, as I can only see my child's application but mine was cancelled by ircc mistakenly. see below my responses based on my experience. I don't think @skull4eva is so active here again..

what is the shortfall on this SOP since we (hubby and kids) are planning to apply for OWP and SP ?? (it depends on your writeup and other documentation. You can get a letter from where she volunteered, carefully word the mother-in-law part (don't paint it like she can't survive without you)

Can we now use spouse's parents, hubby's mother, and land properties as home ties? yes, (you can)

Is Upfront medical okay since hubby travels a lot and IRCC can send them for medicals while hubby must have returned to work? (yes)

Do children need medical? if yes (not sure about this but I want to believe they do)

Do children of age (14, 11, and 9) need biometrics? (I believe they do)

Hello OkukuOne

Too many questions right here though, so I will just briefly answer you.

The other spouse in Nigeria will apply for a Spousal Open work permit (SOWP) and the kids will apply for an Open Study permit. The bolded should do for Home ties, if any of your also have Businesses or companies, investments e.t.c , you can add that as well.

He can either do Upfront medicals or wait for IRCC to send him a Medical request, both are good to go. SO it depends on your choice but most people go for upfront to kinda avoid delays from IRCC.

Yea, you kids will have to do medicals.

You can't do a GCKEY student profile for him, he isn't applying for a study permit. You should create a Spousal open work permit for him (I will recommend GCKEY).

Lastly, you can apply once you know you are ready to apply, also work with the time the wife's study permit will expire. So its best you apply early enough.

Peace

The Lord has done it for my family.

PPR dropped for my wife and children yesterday.

SOWP for my wife, a student visa for my first child, and visiting for my lastborn.
Their applications were submitted before I left Nigeria.

I got my student visa in June, and I then deferred admission from September to January.

Documents submitted:
4 months bank statements (both MBS and statements of account)
Marriage certificate and loads of family pictures
Her work-related documents
daughter's school-related documents
Children's birth certificates

Timeline:
Upfront medical: November 7, 2023
Application submitted: November 11, 2022
Biometric: November 14, 2022
I ordered the first GCMS through anon123 on December 11th, and it arrived on January 10th, 2023, with nothing but medical passes.
Medical passed: December 14, 2022 (this was 2 days after my wife sent them an emotional email)
Eligibility review: We are not sure when this started, but we saw it on December 30, 2022.
I ordered the second GCMS on January 12th and am still waiting for it.
PPR: February 3, 2023

I got to Canada on January 3, 2023.
My wife immediately sent my student permit letter, course enrollment, and class schedule through email and Webform IRCC.

God has been faithful to us, and I give Him all glory.
Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed to this thread; you guys are amazing. Though I never got to ask questions here, I did get most of the information we used here.
A special thanks goes to Ketima for making me realise I could actually apply for SOWP before leaving for Canada. Man, you gave me the moral I needed, and thank you for answering my numerous emails. Also to anon123, thank you very much; you are the best. Skull4eva, thank you for your contributions here, God bless you.

This happens to everybody (inability to login). Keep trying repeatedly. Also use in incognito, different browser, clear cookies etc. It's not your account that's the issue it's the IRCC website.

Sorry I can't help with the linking account issue

Finally got a response from IRCC regarding my medical (passed) status since September 28th 2022 after sending a webform. I am hopeful for a successful outcome. It can only be God almighty.

Please what’s is the period to get an approval after getting a medical status?

May God almighty answer all our secret prayers.

OkukuOne:

Yes, you can. Makes sure to include evidence as applicable.

Is medical a must for hubby? if yes: Yes, this is a must unless he has done one with IRCC and it's under a year old.

Is Upfront medical okay since hubby travels a lot and IRCC can send them for medicals while hubby must have returned to work? Yes, upfront medical is ok.

Do children need medical? if yes: Yes irrespective of age. Even a day old will need one.

Is Upfront medical okay since hubby needs to take them there as well? Yes.

Do children of age (14, 11, and 9) need biometrics? Children age 1-14 do not need biometric. https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/identity-management/biometrics/exemptions.html#toc2

GCKey for student or GCKey for hubby, which is preferable? Create one for hubby it is always better.

The big question here is when to apply? Though I have read people apply asap, some after 3 months, while others a year later: This is a 1 year Study visa, I will say the sooner the better, as long you have all the documents. Or you can gather all the documents and get ready, once you land in CND, get enrolled, collect your study permit and WP, scan them to hubby and apply within the week.

I will appreciate scrutiny and the best approach to the entire process.

Thanks, for your anticipated assistance team.

Wow ! Congratulations to you and yours. Can you take me through step by step how you did it oo? And how much did she submit as POF quote author=highburygonner post=120634451]The Lord has done it for my family.

Skull4eva, thank you for your contributions here, God bless you.[/quote]
