Skye Bank did not pay dividends for 3 years prior to when they bought Afribank.

They don't have a healthy balance sheet
Okay
But my point was that Skye bank had enough to pay for the purchase of Afribank and many considered it as promising. Besides most banks did not pay dividend during that period.

It's like we think this group is the only thing that move stocks in the ngx...infact what he said may have had no difference in the direction of oando stock movement.

That said, who to blame is not the way forward, your investment approach and strategy is what you may need to review.

I am also a learner in these stuff after getting burned a couple of times

You underestimate what happens here. There is not particularly stock that is marketed extensively that would not rally the next day except there is counter analysis here in the same measure. However, one thing with those unreliable stock is that there are like that of MMM the noise they make could sometimes be too loud even for the deaf.

I’m sorry for speaking out against you when you challenged those promoting Oando
Thank you sir/madam. You're truly blessed to deem it fit to apologize, even though it's a faceless forum. Just be more careful in the stock market and possibly avoid any stock that seems controversial.

About 16 years ago, a friend and colleague called during trading session and gave me a hot tip to take position in a certain insurance stock. It was unsolicited so I believed him. He said it was surely closing max price (5% then). I took the biggest position I had taken in a stock. Greed😁. By close of trading, the price was 5% down and for the next 3 days when I had to book my loss. Lol. I survived and learnt a lesson to always be fully and personally convinced of any hot tips before taking positions, if at all.

There are sharks and the benevolent in the capital market (and here too).

You will be fine. Calm down, learn and make the necessary adjustments. I'm still learning too.

Announcement of an opportunity being sighted and keyed into
mikeapollo:

The shareholders will surely reject and kill the buy-out offer.
Oando will clock N100...especially with the acquisition of ENI.
I foresaw the opportunity and loaded it in millions of units!
Motivation for recruiting many into the fold
mikeapollo:

Sell OANDO and lose money.
the least price OANDO would attain in the next few months is N50! It has prospects to hit N100!
Encouragement for doubting "investors"
mikeapollo:

The buyout offer is just an offer....
Once the shareholders reject the buyout offer at the AGM (which is now almost certain), the buyout dies automatically, ....
it is almost certain that the shareholders would reject the buyout offer, .....
More inspiration and hints on future prospects
mikeapollo:

OANDO has almost weathered the storm and will clock N50 very soon.. The company made profits in FY2021....
Anyone that has some idle cash to spare and stake should load it on Oando ....
The price rally after that date may be crazy because Oando is likely to release its financial results for FY2022 shortly before or after that date..
Aggressive marketing encouragement
mikeapollo:

If you have the money, buy as much of Oando as you can....
A little bit of unveiling the value and decent comparison to fellow shells stocks.
mikeapollo:

Oando is still undervalued. Check the price of it's contemporaries like Conoil which is selling around N90-100 even though it is more downstream than upstream...
Slip of fingers tongue: "feeling" and not "sure" anymore
mikeapollo:

I have a feeling that the shareholders would discontinue and withdraw the case,....
Telling them the real name of the game
mikeapollo:

The Oando market is like what the Yoruba people call '' igbo o da ju'' ....... a thick scary forest that only the brave and bold can enter!
After sharing many facts in "constructive" arguments, the motivator shows they are also human and that the motivation has been based on last minute "hope"
mikeapollo:

It is painful. and I agree that the Oando management has not been....
But something still tells me that something drastic could still happen that would favour Oando shareholders....like a die minute positive news!
This bros go make a great ambassador of any brand. Much respect for backing all arguments with facts, great comparisons, valuation figures and so on.
Please note that nothing concerns me with Oando and its price actions.

Oando gave several exit hints to those who use technical analysis, two of which are based on the theory in my Dangote post.

Below shows the 40-day bar chart representing days, Naira traded, % change, and closing prices. While the stock was doing well, the full bid volume traded was reducing, signifying confidence by the holders of the stock. Then, on the 13th, we saw a huge spike in volume, which signified that something had changed and we should have sold the next day at around 10.

After this, there was luckily another series of full bids with reducing volumes, then on the 20th, another boom in volume. Again, we should have sold the next day at around 13.

As a bonus grin , my newbie breakout strategy: if a stock has been trading in a range for a long time, if it breaks out of the range at large volumes, that's a good entry point. Here my entry point would have been 6.7 or below.

which app is this pls.

@Iamblessed85, sorry for the position you are now. But then, as other people on this forum would say, you have not really lost or gain from any stock until you sell your stock. All you are seeing now is paper loss. The stock market is full of surprises, the same oando may bounce back and still get to where you never imagined. Alternatively, it may also go down more than imagined. Stop blaming anybody, it is part of the lesson every investor must, and have learnt over the years of investing. Experience is the best teacher.

Going forward, I wish to remind us all that this forum is NIGERIA STOCK EXCHANGE MARKET PICK ALERTS (NSEMPA), not a forum for only the egg heads and the gurus, It is a mixture of the good, the bad and the ugly. Personally, I know almost every monikers here and have gain a lot from their posts. There are even times that if I am in a stock and Peterichy mention the stock, I will go back and double-check my position on the stock if I should hold or sell grin. So, there is a lesson to learn from everybody. Therefore, we should stop criticizing others for calling out stock to buy. There have been occasion when the so-called bad stock will turn around and be the best performing stock. I remember criticisms then on Diamond bank etc of those periods.

May the Lord have mercy on us and bless our investment in Jesus name.

I have learnt so much from the experience of old minds here to know that a company that releases its FY2021 financial report in 2023 without official notices of reasons for delay even when others are already releasing quarterly reports has built its own pitch of play with its own rules.
If you are a "newbie", please learn from experience litters on the pages of this forum, learn by reading offline and online, asking questions and so on. If you must follow stock picks like betting tips, check the history of monikers for patterns of aggressive marketing or "talking from both sides of the mouth". Companies are listed for a reason, a management team for a reason, SEC exists for a reason, financial reports and news are available to everyone for a reason, and shareholders exist for a reason. Define your own reason and be guided by it. "Money you can afford to lose" is a very deep expression!
Happy investing and trading grin

Response to Peter's questions
Short answer: Maybe, decision to be based on "shell or shares". Would he sell his own N7 UBA if it reached N21?
Long answer: Why would I buy Oando for 3x returns when many fundamentally sound stocks give close returns on top of peace of mind and long term prospects? Not when there's general bull please.

Someone thinking of showing Wale shege must be really large, like really large! Someone who would make a living out of calling out generational low gangs must be equally sincere!

It is not an app, it is a chart generated with a Python program. You can also do something similar with Microsoft Excel or by hand. I get the raw data from the MorganCapital daily price list.

Note that the breakout strategy with volume works most of the time and is one of the TA entry strategies in many books. The other strategy works for stocks that are in continuous full bid, and once you spot a very large volume day, it is time to reconsider your position. Thank you.

I don’t even know what to say. Should I query you for putting your ENTIRE fund into something that looks more like a joke and promoted by a being that has little or no history on this thread. OR perhaps, I should query you for tying all your ENTIRE funds to the Naira.

This might sound harsh but for your own good and for the greater good of everyone around you. Do not buy a single stock again for the rest of your life rather give your money to someone you can trust, someone with the proper temperament or a company with good track record to invest on your behalf.

Please, times are hard. This is no time to turn cash into trash.

Thank God I made myself clear via my new moniker as a trader "Locotrader".
I did this so that my username will judge anyone who tries to condemn any action I take.A trader may value a stock at #20 naira and hype it then decide to exit at #15.He prays for a pullback to re-enter same stock again and ride it simultaneously till the price is actualized. No cause for alarm the oando shareholders.Oando will go above #20 self if delisting is terminalted. The trade set up in oando is still okay from my own very end.People are selling because the court case is near and no one knows what the outcome will be.I will be among those to put money in oando after the court case just for capital appreciation in a short term.

In this context,I didn't see where to blame Peter because I have known him as a trader for a long time now.He will still come back to oando again and hype it.

My advice is anyone who wants to invest should do so in a dividend paying stocks and avoid non dividend paying stocks which are being hijacked by traders to avoid this type of blame.

Know a trader by their actions and know peace.

Investors are patient people. They don't hype stocks. They don't create liquidity in a stock. They rely on dividends and also average down when they see a pullback.

Bottomline, all man should choose this day on what side you are, investor, trader or hybrid.

Whatever side you decide to join, learn the ropes and use calls to trigger your own DD rather than blindly follow. However, I believe even when you follow blindly, you should have your own entry and exit points. There are some of us who follow OGP, mrcy, ogaemma, cstomstreet, osidinma or CP etc blindly, but we still de try open one eye de look left, right then left again to be sure we are not crushed.

On a lighter note, I believe this year has been favorable to jijoist and hybrids.

These people you mention only point a stock.Because of their popularity here, some smart traders pick up the stock immediately and create liquidity in it and build a trade setup then come and see traffic.I always like when Cp recommend a kobo stock. The ride will be awesome.cp will take the glory but never knew those behind the ride.Reason why cp recommended stocks go far is because of the fundamentals.

People who always look for who to blame in stocks are those who use 100k waiting to make #2m.
Traders target from 10% to 20% and most invest heavily in only one stock.
In a bullish market traders may be fortunate to get 100% or more. Its their luck.
In the last rally I offloaded 20m units Japaul at 1.47.It was my luck.

If you bought oando at #5,6 or #7 and because people said oando will get to #20,you should have done yourself good by alighting well at #12 but greed won't allow you Nah.

What do you say about Fbn which was a good dividend paying bank then likewise oceanic. No stock is worth to relying so much on brother. The new CBN Governor you are seeing now may put sand for some banks garri and the dividend you are seeing now will disappear in the next financial year.
This is more reason I invest heavily in one stock.when I hit, I look well again before coming back even if it takes me one year to come back.

If I want want to invest for dividend, Q3 is always the best time as the financials will say much about March/April dividend payment.
I will advice you invest for dividend for only one financial year because you don't know what the next financial year will bring.until you see report, you take a look first.

How do you expect an investor who took positions in UCAP and fidelity bank at around N2 few years ago to understand what you just said. The one in UCAP who is still holding will be getting nothing less than 75% dividend yield today and it will get to 100% the moment they started paying dividend of more than N2 per unit.
