Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 2 by ejisky: 5:53pm On Jul 16, 2015
In the CBN communique they only talked about withdrawals....

"The limit was reduced from $150,000 to $50,000 per person, per annum. The daily cash withdrawal limit per person, per day, is pegged at $300. No monthly limit was stated so i suppose one can withdraw 300 dollars daily for 30 days.....

For online its a million, for POS its 500k , its only ATM withdrawal that's 300$.... I use it here... its only money order that it didn't work for & when i called my account officer, he asked me to call the CC line to remove the restrictions placed to deter fraudulent use of the card.

I just decided to do cash withdrawals, luckily there is a chase at every street corner, so i do withdrawals with my stanbic & Immediately insert my chase card to deposit into my account.. 300×30=9k $, +whatever PTA brought in should cover any bill, baring NICU.

199.5 is not a rate anyone else can beat. Both my GTB & Fidelity currently are near empty,i aint doing 215 & 211 respectively..when i return home, i'll fund them.

In most cases the insurance company pays part and you will be asked the pay the other part which will stand as your Zero balance receipt. The cost is minimal in some states while in other states it can be more than $5000. She has nothing to fear if an Insurance company is involved and she pays whatsoever she is asked to pay.

Thanks alot ejisky. Its quite clear now.

And abuse of the system like that will lead to policy change. many Americans pay their own medical bills and we should not abuse their system using every possible loopholes.

If foreigners come to Nigeria to use our services and left without paying we will come out smoking.

You mean the hospitals in Nigeria that want cash deposits before they even attend to you? There is no hospital anywhere in Nigeria that would attend to any foreigner without adequate deposit to cover the cost of treatment . Let's stop openly encouraging people to abuse a system we have the privilege to use So others can also have access in future. It's because of abuses like these that the UK and Ireland erected road blocks to automatic citizenship by birth. Let's keep these activities strictly through private chats. There Was a POE encounter with a CBP officer referencing Nairaland during POE. It would definitely not add to our "good" reputation as a country to be openly enouranging illegality on an open forum .
OP: Please, workout a payment plan to offset whatever bill you get . It doesn't matter how long it takes to pay off but try and do the right thing . It's a WWJD moment.

Hello People,

Can someone pls help? I am in New Jersey and trying to fill the Nigeria Passport application for my baby but when I picked new York as the processing state a notification popped up that they don't have the 32 page passport available till further notice. I just want to find out if anyone in the house applied and paid for the 32 page passport recently despite the notification. Probably our naija embassy has forgotten to remove the notification cos I av been checking since I had my baby 2weeks ago.

Thanks.

There is such an unusual silence about this issue in this thread that can only mean that a lot of people here use Medicaid secretly but ashamed to acknowledge it openly here.

The 'bad' experiences at the POE will continue if some people keep abusing the system.

I think the unusual silence is more from an empathetic and compassionate stand point. I didn't use Medicaid the last time and by God's grace, I will not in future as well.

It's really a rough patch to go through with a newborn being ill and all, so people don't want to worsen the situation.

This is my opinion though.

Unusual silence? Most of us are in Nigeria and this was posted in the night... And then the majority of people recently reading through this posts either just put to bed or are still pregnant..

Besides if there was secret use of medicaid I doubt we wld find helpful hints at to how to settle our bills or hints from those who went through hustles to pay back Medicaid.

And why struggle to find 10k dollars even buy at an outrageous rate in the black market just so u can use Medicaid?

And then u give birth to one child there, what about the others? If u end up facing a ban..

These red flags "bills" cause get people who are innocent denied visa.. Simply because dey bear the same name or they r related (judging from other nairaland visa threads)

I must also state that Medicaid puts pressure on people to use their services... At least from the posts I've read here...

Except they ain't on this thread but most of them sort their bills...plus those who work out a plan with d hospital to sort their while in Nigeria... Even those that get bills after they have left the US , find a way to sort their bills.... Abeg a big Kudos to these mothers and fathers

And if truly they are truly people using it secretly... It means water don pass garri, and the pressure was beyond them... Pls settle it somehow

Hello house! In the spirit of giving back, let me share my POE experience. I bought my ticket at emirates office to chicago but upon reading many poe scary stories i decided to reroute to newyork-chicago despite having all the right documentation, i was trying to avoid any form of delay and stress because i travelled with hubby and my 2 yrs old toddler. This costed about a 100k plus naira for d change and rerouting but i felt it was still better than taking risk. Got to the airport, fit to fly was requested for, i am 34weeks but my doctor wrote 32weeks which i think was best for me to avoid unnecessary questioning. Trip was very stressful (long hours flight plus a cranky toddler). I placed an order for a wheelchair service. I didnt use it at d nigerian airport. On getting to dubai, i requested for a wheelchair but the guy i asked said i wasnt entitled to a wheelchair (that they dont give wheelchair services to pregnant women as the airline might think i am not fit to fly). I felt upset cos i was tired. Boarded from dubai to newyork. On arriving newyork i requested for a wheelchair and they were so glad to give me one. The wheelchair pusher was awesome, he made everything so easy for us. Toddler was on my lap all through. With the wheelchair we were given preference over others. We didnt need to join the very long queue. CBP officer: hi
Me: hi
CBP: wat are u here for
Me: childbirth and vacation
CBP: good. How long are u here
Me:2months
CBP: Anything to declare
Hubby: 8000 dollars (though we had 12k dollars cash and the rest in the account but hubby said he didnt want them to stress us over amount exceeding 10k dollars that was why he said we had 8k dollars)
CBP: ok thats fine. Do u have food stuff
Me: yes we do
CBP stamped us in for 6 months and sent us to agriculture.
He didnt ask for doctors corresponces, letter of change of intent and all burden of proof we had with us.
we got our bags and got to agric.
Agric: wat do u have
Me: nigerian food, egusi, ogbono (meanwhile we had alottttt of food items, egusi ,ogbono, dried fish, stock fish ,wara (fried cheese), garri ,groundnut, crayfish, kulikuli ,dried pap, dried pepper, kilish ,fried snail ,elubo for amala ,chicken maggi, onion indomie, milo, milk cereal for toddler ,custard ) i needed to bring all of these for my host to make dem happy.
so the agric guy transfered us to the screening section. My heart was pounding already. As God would have it the screening guys asked wat we had in our bags(5 checked in bags and 2 hand luggages) I said egusi ogbono. As i was trying to call other names he asked, do u have yam, fruits, i said no. He just said u can go. No screening whatsoever took place. We were super glad. And that was it. I was still on the wheelchair all through. The wheelchair pusher got a cab for us to our hotel room cos we decided to spend the night in newyork. The guy was super awesome, hubby gave him a tip of 20dollars. Left for chicago yest via jetblue. Everything went easy. Got a wheelchair service too, avoided those very long queues. Arrived chicago, got our bags and waited for uncles arrival for pick up.

In all it was a great experience. JFK remains the best. All thanks to God and this forum. I got all information here. U guys are really really wonderful. Getting set for doctors 1st appointment on monday.
Will update as events unfolds. BTW chicagos weather is fantastic!

Some people have come out to say they used medicaid, I guess they weren't ashamed.

It's a pretty delicate situation like someone else mentioned, but the truth is that by using it, we're taking advantage of the system, no need to try justifying it.

I was fortunate not to use it for my baby, but not everyone can raise extra money when the bills start piling.

May God help us all.

Whether openly or secretly my point is that it's morally and ethically wrong. We are abusing the privilege, we are reaping where we did not sow. It's totally unfair.

Well they need to be ashamed of themselves especially those who made no arrangement to pay back later.
