that's 100 level Mathematics. When you get to 300 level mathematics, enter the world of abstract Mathematics where there is no figure involved, you won't find any step to take. And u do nothing but to cram then u know mathematics is much more than 100 level maths.

Like I said, Math was core for EE and ME and we both did the identical courses.

In Engineering we do mathematics up to 400L. We call it Engineering Mathematics EG201, 202,301, 302, 401 and almost all Engineering courses are full of calculations, integration, Matrix, Differentiation, permutations and combination, Bearing and distance, Trigonometry etc. Most of the Nigerian universities Mathematics as a course end in 400L except Federal University of Technology that are up to 500L.

That happens only in Nigeria, while on youth service I was posted to a particular school with a colleague who read Petroleum Engineering, I studied Physics and was asked to teach Basic Technology while my colleague Mathematics! Truth is if you compare our transcripts am more qualified to teach Mathematics judging from the amount of credit load I took from maths dept. But they believe engineering students are the best mathematicians.

Lol i cant seem to wrap dis idea how Engineering students think or act lik they do/know mathematics aspect more dan those who spend all their freaking lecture hours solving am Pure Mathematics student nd an engineering student came to me today saying "am wastin my time doin pure maths that dey (engineering) are equal to mathematicians plus dey hav added engineering knowledge. I was lik wtf, suite urself, i kno why i chose mathematics over engineering during JAMB. Am not a foool.
Engineering students brag to be all rounder but i refuse to accept an engineer can replace a mathematican except in a useless country lik nigeria

don't mind them bro. I took an elective in Maths dept in my 200L (Numerical Analysis I). To my suprise, that's what 500L Civil Engr are battling with. They don't even got to enjoy the second part which we did in 300L. I'm a physicist sha.

Engineering students are mathematicians......they can solve better than maths students most times. Tell me that aspect of maths that we engineers don't use in analysis, is it matrix, permutation n comb, Lagrange method of interpolations, differentiation n integration, mathematic which covers bending moments n shear forces, Laplace transforms n fourier series, statistics(bernoulli eqn, poissons, measures of disperssion, measures of central tendency etc),trigonomery, linear equations n simultaenous linear equ, polynomial equ, partial fractions, graph plotting,linear algebra, complex numbers, hyperbolic functions, determinants,probality, ode(ordinary differential equ), n many more but I know some mathematics topics are strictly for maths students but just gv d same topic to engineers n they will pieces it. NoTE: I av seen a maths student reads maths text with dictionary, I don't kn what he's actually doing with it, I av also seen d same guy reading a novel with a calculator......are all of them maths students? No offence though

I was having issues with a particular topic in mathematics I actually went to math department to see a friend to help put me tru while there another friend 400l computer engineering came and like na this one you cross from ur department dey come mth for no worry I go teach you na 300L engineering maths una even dey do for final year although embarrassed I gave him one question from a past question to solve before we can start my tutorial he spent up to 4hours trying to fix the question but couldn't
he ended telling me that the topic was different from the one they did but with the same name
this happened 5yrRs ago in uniben

A mathematician eats, drinks and breathes maths all day long. An engineer is concerned with the application of maths and basic sciences to explain engineering concepts. Ideally, a math major should know more math than an engineering major. It is common sense and deserves no controversy. An engineering major takes several math classes in the first 2-3 years of undergrad. The bad blood existing between engineering students and their science counterparts has been for a very long time.

An engineer is not a mathematician so the question of whether he is better than a mathematician should not arise.

The gist of the matter is that the engineer is a jack of all trade but a master of all. His disposition to practicality is the unique advantage he holds over the mathematician or physicists. He is like a combat general who gets to put to practice the different tactics and strategies developed in war rooms and see how they fare amidst the vagaries and realities of the war front.

A good mathematician or a physicist may be intelligent or brainy but a good engineer should not only be intelligent, he should be smart and resourceful.
