Hi everyone, my name is wonuola. I came accross this thread on Google and I must commend y'all. I got married august last year and finally my husband got a study visa to trebas institute toronto after he was denied twice. He left Nigeria September. I applied for an open work permit/visitationvisa on Dec 11, went for biometrics Dec 15. I prayed and fasted, hoping to God that I will get the visa, but I got a refusal mail some mins ago. We actually used a lawyer because he helped my husband get his visa. I am so devastated @ the moment, coz I waited for two months and spent so much money using the lawyers. Please I need the gurus in the house to advice me, I beg you guys. I was denied based on travel history, family ties in Canada and in country of residence, length of proposed stay and financial status. My dad wrote a letter that he was going to sponsor me and I used his statement of account. He had over 7million in his account. I really don't know if that affected the visa because am married. I really don't know what went wrong. 1)Can I apply for visitation first, then work permit later?? 2)Also do I have to wait for 30 days to apply again?? Please gurus I will be waiting for ur response, God bless y'all

Hi NL, I picked up d refusal letter for me and my family today after medicals sad. We were refused based on just purpose of visit. I intend to re-fire as soon as possible and I need advice on how to tackle this refusal. Here's my profile: I intend going for PGD Project Management at U of winnipeg. I applied for study permit along with visitor's visa for my wife and kids, even though I stated that they were not accompanying me. I have a BSc. in pol science and MBA human resources and currently work in a bank for over 8 years now. Pls what does the VO likely mean by purpose of visit and please advice on how I can tackle this as I intend to re-fire (as e dey hot). grin

excerpt from seiraries' post on 15th Dec, 2015 in relation to purpose of visit
2. Length of proposed stay and purpose of visit:
Most times the two are tied together. This implies that the VO isn't convinced you're going to study or that you need the degree you're going for. It could also imply inconsistency in your academic/work background and your chosen course of study. Nine times out of ten an applicant with a First degree going for a diploma will be denied except such applicant is able to convince the VO of his/her rationale for choosing the diploma programme. Another reason why the above could be ticked is when your intended programme of study is not at all related to your background (academic/professional). Length of proposed stay may imply that the VO isn't convinced you need that much time away from your home country in pursuit of a degree or that you can obtain the needed experience in the time frame quoted. (keyword: convinced It is very likely that two different VOs might see things differently i.e where one VO feels your current job as a junior business analyst is unrelated to your chosen course of study in International Business [got this from an applicant's GCMS notes], another VO reviewing the same application may feel otherwise. All one can do is to convince as much as possible and hope/pray one's VO is eventually convinced)(This part is speculative and not a fact. Further input is needed from other members of the house)

Solution:
Ensure that you carefully select a programme which ties into your work or academic background or both. Go for a programme which is considered a step higher than your current degree. If you have been denied on these counts and you feel it was an oversight, justify your reasons for choosing the programme in an SOP. If you have to go for a lesser programme, give genuine reasons why. All you need to do is present your side of the story and hope for the best. VO's are human.

Purpose of visit - This is actually where the problem lies, you're a fresh graduate, you studied Engineering in your UG level, the sudden deviation to international business is a NO NO for the Vo, if you don't have solid reasons in your SOP for the deviation or work experience in that line.
You really have to work on this and I'll be sincere with you, I really have no idea how you'll do that has you're a fresh grad with no work experience.. But there's nothing a great SOP cannot do.

Hello All,
I am new on this page. Thanking you all for the support we are giving each other here. May God grant each and everyone our heart desires. Please I need some clarifications. My husband just got an e-mail alert that his admission to the UofSask has been approved, and he was told he will get the formal notification this week. My questions:
1. His proof of funds (which seems to the only thing holding him back from applying for a study permit immediately) is only about a month old in the account, so I guess he would have to wait till June before he can apply to satisfy the four months period. He is also using his mother as his sponsor, is this okay?
2. Kindly advise on the other documents he will need and the do's and don'ts concerning these documents
3. Lastly, when would you guys advise my kids (two of them aged 5 and 2) and I apply for a visiting visa and how long do you think would be approved for us when successful.

Thanking you all in anticipation of your responses.

IMO, you need to add a detailed CV to your application to project your employment history 2010-2015.
Add documents to prove your last employment.
Include a dynamite SOP to your application which should more than anything show you haven't been idle after your last employment (could be a volunteer activity/service) and disprove any suspicion in the mind of any VO your application is primarily a pretext to emigrate. It may sound difficult but it's not impossible.
The VOs perception is basically dependent on documents you present and the manner in which they are presented, ceteris paribus. Tell a good story.
You can study a peculiar application for @thesoj brother that was successful here, here, and here.

Hope it helps.

P.S- more than anything, your finances, sponsor's and home ties (includes personal assets) have to be solid. Leave no stone unturned.

Thanks @ seiraries

Please finally applied for pratical element of mechanical engineering with fanshawe college and sent me this mail below on the 10th of January requested for 1000CAD part payment with application fee inclusive..thought I was only suppose to pay 100CAD for application fee and after admission has been given..you can then pay your tuition fee..below is d mail..I appreciate your help and advice

Hello from Fanshawe College,

Thanks for your application to Fanshawe College! We have pre assessed your application. In order for Fanshawe College to continue with your application, the following is required:

Please send us a tuition deposit of $1000 (Canadian funds). If you have already paid $100 then we require the additional $900. This $1000 will be deducted from your total tuition for your first semester. This amount, minus a $250 non-refundable deposit, will be refunded to you if your visa is denied.

We are requesting this deposit because students applying for a visa through the Canadian High Commission will be required to show proof that they are able to support themselves while in Canada. A financial commitment of $1000.00 to Fanshawe College is a good start.

To make this deposit:

Fanshawe College has partnered with peerTransfer to streamline this process for international students. The peerTransfer system allows you to pay from any country and any bank. This system allows you to pay in your home currency and potentially save a significant amount of money with excellent foreign exchange rates. Additional online methods such as Visa, MasterCard, and UnionPay are also available for many countries.

Note: You will need your student number (in the subject line of this email) to complete a wire transfer.

To make a wire transfer:

1. Go to www.peertransfer.com/school/fanshawec to begin the payment process.

2. Select the country from which your funds will be coming from and the payment amount (in Canadian dollars) you wish to make to Fanshawe College.

3. In most cases, the Canadian dollar amount will be converted into your home currency at preferential exchange rates. [Note that peerTransfer offers a “Best Price Guarantee” for bank transfer methods.]

4. After providing some basic information, you will be asked to visit your bank (via phone, online or in person) to send funds from your local bank to peerTransfer. If you have selected

Hello everyone,
Please I want to apply for a research based masters in electrical and computer engineering but I don't know how to secure admission from a professor.
The universities I have in mind right now are
1) University of Saskatchewan
2) University of Manitoba
3) University of Ottawa

Assistance needed!!!

You need support of professors for admission. Don't think they give the admission themselves. But their support means you 90% in, if not more.

Now, Google the program in the schools. Know the program by reading about their admission criteria. Search professors working on the specialization you interested in. Read their profile and researches. Send them a convincing email about how your profile and proposed research is a good match for their supervision and support.

Embrace yourself for rejections and no reply. But you can do it with faith, convincing email and proper planning. Thank you.

Shalom!

It really doesnt matter if you state that you would like to work after your studies to gain experience..I know a guy who said something like that and he got his trv....Its quite a tricky one though..If your program has co-op placements and all that, i think you should leave the working in canada part out....
thesoj:
You are applying for a student visa, yet you are already talking about working there after your studies. This implies to the VO that you might not come back after your studies should you not be able to Canada any longer.

Re: Travelling To Canada Part 9 by dessy8: 9:21am On Mar 03, 2016
Dont ever pay your full tuition if the school doesnt ask you to.....it doesnty boost your chances for trv in anyway....your SOA and SOP(in some cases) does the main work....

I don't think so.. I paid n I forgot to add it but I still got my TRV. Even with out SOP.

I am in the same shoes with u.. tho my wife is already there.. If i knew we could have applied with the kids initially..

The 2016 immigration levels plan

The government of Canada is scheduled to table its 2016 immigration levels plan to Parliament on or before March 9, 2016. Among other details, this plan is expected to announce how many immigrants Canada aims to attract over the year and reveal a breakdown in the number of immigrants that will be allocated to the various Canadian immigration programs. This plan is usually presented by November of any given year, but has been delayed on this occasion due to the change in government at that time last year.

Even if it doesn't boost ones chance of trv, I don't think it's a bad idea to pay all the fees now considering the high volatility in the foreign exchange rates. Moreover, one is liable for a refund if visa is eventually denied.

Nope. That's bad advice. Because your friend got his TRV doesn't mean it makes sense.
Telling a VO that you want to gain experience in Canada after you finish school is outside the scope of a student visa. Point blank. Don't put the cart before the horse.

[quote author=dammysel post=43460890]Hello guys, am new on this whole Canada application thing...

$50 Graduate Application Fee
Letter of Intent
Post-Secondary Transcript 1
Reference 1
Reference 2
Resume''

Hello,
The application fee is the amount you have to pay for the school to process uour application, im sure you'll easily find the payment option while applying online

*post secondary transcript is ur uni transcript(the uni u just graduated from) or transcript for all institutions u'v attended after secondary school, contact your uni to send the school a copy or if they can give you? Scan and upload online to ur application.

*you need two reference letters from your uni lecturers to support your application, depending on what the school u wanna apply to wants, you can either provide the email address of your referees in your application(the school will then send them a request for reference update) or send/scan paper copies (if allowed).

*letter of intent is your statement of purpose, could be a page or two, you write about why u wanna study the chosen course, why the uni, how will it help your future plan(s), bla bla bla...

*resume- just upload ur CV

So get all this docx, scan and upload to ur application or send to the graduate dept of the uni, so they can add it to ur application.

I hope this helps, goodluck.
