overdrive: It may be "wash" in ur own dictionary but the correct word is "washing" since she was talking about past action in a continuous tense |

hifaif1: Thanks for explaining. This may not be an Oxymoron like you pointed out. But permit me to say that's not the definition of an Oxymoron. Oxymoron means "A figure of speech in which apparently contradictory terms appear in conjunction" They dont necessarily have to be side by side. Examples: "Live within your income, even if you have to borrow to do so. "We must believe in free will. We have no choice." Source: Definition and examples culled up from Google. |

VickyRotex: Actually, the examples you gave are paradoxes. Oxymorons that actually point out paradoxes are called literary oxymorons. Oxymorons generally involve the use of two contrasting words side by side. |

Cherryf: So in your mind of minds she just said it "to the whole world" without something leading to it. Come on, she's passed that childish lifestyle. You should have inquired on what led to the statement. Moreover, her doing it, manually or machine-wise, is a sign of being submissive to the authority, amidst the much desirous wealth she has accumulated for herself and family. |

VickyRotex: And neither does oxymoron knowledge matters except in the school of language....all that matters anywhere is understanding and not lexical construction. |

So all the other my husband is my best friend, biggest supporter etc. Is silent? @ OP: Maybe I was brought up differently but washing of clothes/undies doesn't signify 'submissiveness/humbleness'.... More like hardworking? Again, I find the 'my husband asked me to stop' part funny... Was the husband implying there was something 'wrong/humiliating' washing his undies? And Ma, I think you are bigger than giving such specifics in an interview. |
