Are they your kids?
Are u their legal guardian?
If yes, then you can travel anywhere you want to with them. Questions will always be asked at poe. It is then for you to give any required explanation

Hello everyone...

I have been an extremely silent follower of this thread from part 1. It really helped with the delivery of my son last year, precisely November.

I sincerely apologize for not 'giving back' as is the norm here. Please accept my apologies...

Visa interview was quite basic. Got a medical visa and had to be the grace of God, cos the money needed was deposited in her account at once a few days before, but the VO was patient enough to ask why and if we had other sources of income.

POE was Washington Dulles and it was a breeze. Initial plan was to deliver at Northside, but we decided to stay at Maryland as we had free accommodation in both states. Unfortunately, the hospital I had been speaking with was not as close as I thought. It was near Clarksburg in West Virginia and not the Clarksburg in MD as I thought it was. It was actually a 4-hour drive from MD, but we had no choice cos hospitals in the area were really expensive.

We eventually used Stonewall Jackson in Weston, West Virginia. It was supposed to be a scheduled induction, but turned out to be a CS eventually, as baby's heart beat kept dropping as contractions occur... Cord was around his neck. VD is usually around $4/4.5k and CS around $12k, but we negotiated to $8.5.

I got PTA from Union bank then for myself only at 199.7 (thank God). Luckily, I have a dollar-paying client, so all I did was to withdraw cash and give to her when she was traveling... I joined her a few weeks after.

Documentation for my son was pretty straight forward... US passport in about a week, Naija passport in 2 days from DC.

For those planning to travel to the DMV area this month, Qatar has great deals of N264k to Washington for the exacts dates of 17th November - 17th January. It's really good offer and you connect to wherever you want to go to from there. Another great budget airline to travel within the states is Frontier Airline. They have deals as low as $29 one way to a lot of states.

Hope I have been able to successfully contribute on here and help someone. I promise to drop more deals or info as much as I can.

Thanks and God bless you all...

Hope i did not miss anything out.

PS: I hail all those from here that I have spotted in the Canadian Express Entry thread... Y'all know yourselves! wink

Congratulation on your successful Visa interview.
You may google travelstart or wakanow to check the cheapest flight then I advice to go straight with whichever airline you chose and book on their site. #mypersonalview

Thank u, I will stick to your advice

My nairaland family help a sister, I had my interview on Tuesday (Nov 1)I was asked to pick up my visa in 3working days. Will I get a mail or text from the VI lagos courier service saying my visa is ready or I should just go there tomorrow since it's the 3rd working day. I have been tracking it all day. These are the replies I got : passport still in post and your passport still with the US embassy.

I really need to go home a pregnant woman away from her home the stress is too much and I haven't seen my hubby in 3weeks, now he is home alone.

Good Morning Everyone! Has anyone travelled to Houston via JFK, how stressful did you find it? Would you recommend a direct flight to Houston instead? Please let me know. Thank you so much

I have done this trip before in 2010. I promise you wont be too easy for a pregnant woman or doing it with a baby. My rout was JFK-Charlotte-Houston had to wait 3 hours in Charlotte the flight gets to JFK late in the Night you have to look for where to sleep till wee hours in the morning before take off from JFK.
I promise you it is better to do Houston direct I did it in 2011 it was sweet.

@adukemoi,

Yea, she needs to have her bvn card or if it's not ready get the bank where she registered in to give her a photo print out signed and stamped. She would also need her boarding pass, she can check in online and print it out. Her ATM card too, ensure you go to the bank to increase your POS limit cos some cards have a cap of maybe 500k on it while others are limitless... so confirm from the bank first. The day I travelled they were only accepting cards even though we also had cash with us just in case. I'm not really sure if you must bring cash or not I think it just depends on who is attending.
Hello @ Topnotch22, I have someone travelling this weekend from MMIA and who has her BVN card.
What other specific requirements does Travellex have before selling pta to her?
Also, must the naira be in her account or another person's account whose ATM card will be with her anyway.

Thanks a lot, we just wanna be fully prepared.

it's like naija na... Not like u will carry d bags on ur head.
U come out of jfk u see a cab which will take u to the other airport.
There r always "chauffeur " some how u will get one.
Or u use a cart which is readily available.

You take a train an air training heading to Jamaica station and stop over at terminal 2 or so it is free. But I must warn not easy for an expecting mum or with baby due to the transit times at different airports.
When I did it 2010 I used emirates,
i was all alone and very free but the stress still got to me

Buy your tickets now to get good rates.
Start talking to or looking for doctors now
Don't forget accommodation if you are not staying with family of friends.
Decide which city to go to

Remember to go with a letter of approval from your husband since you are going with your kids who are minors i guess.
He should mention that he will be joining you later and go with his passport biodata page.
Better to be ready

Yes o, immigration in Nigeria can be funny o, I read a story like two days ago where a woman wasn't allowed to fly with her children, her own children o they said because no consent letter from husband, the narrator of the story said woman was stressed and crying and they didn't even look her face at all.

Many thanks for the prompt response @ Topnotch22.

Please must all the money for the pta purchase be in the account of the person travelling?
Or can she use her atm card in addition to another person's atm card to pay?

Thanks again.

I was asked to provide evidence that my first child was mine when I was going on this missionary journey. Thankfully US BCs always carry your maiden name so I just brought out the birth cert. I always carry such things because I dont want stress from any angle.

My mum got her visa.

Her transcript

VO: So what takes you to America
Mum: Vacation and to help my daughter with the birth of my grandchild
VO: how long are you going for?
Mum: 6weeks
VO (looked up from his computer for the first time): why only 6weeks
Mum: I have a husband, an aged mother and other grandchildren here that I have to come back to
VO: congratulations...please pick up your visa bla bla bla

Shikena...
No questions about me or DH...
As usual, nothing checked. All the drilling I did for the woman them no ask her (I did mock interview for her like three times... as if na she wan do missionary journey. She knew drs name, hospital name, address everything.hahaha).. she was now yabbing me... I kuku told her that its better to be over prepared than be underprepared

Thanks, happytbaby for the comprehensive write up you did for biollar... it was really helpful. Thanks, isysleek for answering my query about what address to use for her.

Thanks to the good old search button cheesy

EDIT
I put myself as her sponsor but did not give her my bank account statement. She went with my employment letter, payslips, datapage of passport and visa- none of which was checked.

The Embassy usually sent u an Email that your passport has been returned to the DHL address u chose if its ready for collection. Also since your US Embassy Log-in is still telling u that your passport is still with the embassy why going there and why the rush?. just be patient u will get your passport with Visa or u can give the white paper to someone to collect it for u when its ready and send it to u via one of those local courier, so u can go see your Husband u left since 3 weeks. My in-law own stayed up to 6 business days before he got it,it depends on how busy they are.

Chanbaby use this link http://www.ustraveldocs.com/ng/ng-niv-passportretrieve.asp ,when your passport is with DHL it will state it there, just be a lil more patient I can understand you, the main thing is you are returning with the visa and not without it, it is well.

Nigerian immigration can even be very funny most especially when they ask madam anything for me and you don't give them they will want to find where to nail you at all costs very funny people, sometimes they can even start saying if you don't have up to USD 1k they won't allow you fly.
