When everybody is bullish about a stock, it is probably time to start being bearish. After result & dividend declaration, I may be selling my UCAP.

I repeat what I have said before: 2016 was an exceptional year for UCAP. I may not be right but this is my honest opinion. Many people here already know my stand with UCAP So no beef.

I think UCAP still have more room to climb. Their investment banking business should benefit immensely from the 2.3 trillion naira fund that government is about to raise to fund deficit. The investment banking business should also benefit from raising money for a lot of private companies (banks and others) that need to shore up their balance sheets. Their asset management business should do well in the short and long term as well. When you have have over 40 billion naira under management, the management fees alone is enough contribution to their bottom line.

Sir, believe me I'm not a fan of negativity but an optimist. I trade stocks the way you trade it as well and I want it to do well. The only difference is that I reduce my exposure because of what's ahead. I'm not here to discourage anyone or ignite fear but to share appropriate information. And we shouldn't be blindfolded to understand the road ahead for our dear country and disregard the messenger. Let's just continue to pray for our dear country and stick to what works best for us.
Remember we all want the best for our country. Best of luck!

"The pressure on MTN has never been higher to list," NSE Chief Executive Oscar Onyema told a business conference. "There's a project team working with them."

He also said local airline Med-View would list its shares on January 30

Nigeria’s foreign exchange (forex) reserves have increased to $27.223 billion as at January 16, 2017, according to latest figures on the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) website.

The growth in the reserves, derived majorly from the proceeds of crude oil sales represented an increase by $1.380 billion or 5.3 per cent in the last 17 days, compared with the $25.843 billion that it was as at December 30, 2015.

There's a direct correlation between your dollar holdings and your level of negativity. Its like bad news raises the stakes for foreign investors and somehow increases dollar outflows from the country, which increases pressure on the naira and reduces its value. The opposite is the case with stocks.

For those asking for Free Float...Egypt is a good example

There is so much misinformation in this post. I'm not surprised it was written by Chacha Wabara. She should stick to her legal profession, and not form expert economist.

The first lesson when floating a currency is that anything other than a COMPLETE float is destined to fail. When policy makers fiddle with the exchange rate, black-market activity inevitably surges, as Nigeria’s experiment with a free-float attests. It can also be costly. Russia spent about $90 billion defending the ruble against short-sellers in 2014 before ultimately giving up in November that year.

Just look at Argentina. President Mauricio Macri removed a crawling peg on the peso on Dec. 17, 2015. The move was part of an economic overhaul aimed at luring investment and jump-starting an economy suffering from anaemic growth and a shortage of dollars.

Was it effective? While the currency slid 27 percent on its first day of freedom, the depreciation since then has slowed and inflation is showing signs of easing. The peso’s three-month historical volatility has fallen to among the lowest in Latin America. Investors showed their renewed confidence in the country last year by mopping up a record $33 billion of international bond sales, while the use of black-market exchanges by locals, a widespread practice before the free float, has become less common.

What about Russia? Russian Central Bank Governor Elvira Nabiullina abandoned currency interventions in November 2014 as the country grappled with sanctions and a slump in the price of oil, its main export. The ruble, which rebounded last year, is still down about 32 percent since then.

Was it effective? Two years on, implied three-month ruble volatility has fallen to levels last seen before the free-float, inflation expectations are coming down, net capital outflows have slowed and Nabiullina has been lauded as Europe’s most-orthodox central banker. What’s more, households have lost interest in currency swings and are keeping 60 percent of their savings in rubles, according to a poll released in August.

LESSON: Don't do a half-hearted float like Nigeria's and expect it not to fail. Also, don't do it too late. In Nigeria's case, it's probably too late. Buhari and his goons have so much destroyed the economy that things will only get worse unless Oil goes to above $50 levels and the Niger Delta militants do not 'show him pepper'.

An unidentified militant group in the Niger Delta have blown up a crude oil trunkline in Ughelli, Delta State, barely 24 hours after Vice President Yemi Osinbajo led a Federal Government delegation to the region. Osinbajo had on Monday held a meeting with traditional rulers in Delta State with the objective of finding lasting peace in the region.

Do you think this is the best time for JIJO?
I t is somehow late for you to enter the market because some of the stocks you might have interest to buy has already gained over 15% but it is never too late as most stocks will deliver up to 30% before the end of March.
Right now institutional investors, pension fund Administrators and other market operators are loading most of the stocks in the bank sector for price appreciation/dividends and therefore pushing most of them on bid which may last for weeks.who are you to drag stocks with heavy investors who even control the brokers?

I will mention few stocks that are yet to receive patronage and will likely be on bid in the coming session but make sure you go thru their nine months results and also check if they are trading at 52 wks low..........CCNN,OANDO,WAPCO,FLOUR MILL,PZ,UAC,JBERGER,MAYBAKER,OKOMU,PRESCO.

Pls buy any of those stocks after your DD and forget about the issue of JIJO.2017 first half will not be too good for JIJO.You can think of JIJO from June when the market will be lead by sentiments.

You can also cherry pick from the bank sector.Banks like GTB,FBN and ZENITH has not respond to price actions as witnessed in other banks.

Act now because our country is getting out of recession very very soon and you know what it means on the capital market.30,000 index fast approaching.....

My one kobo contribution to your hard earned money which can double if you play your game well.

fcmb,fidelity,diamond,sterling banks.

what is the comparism with the big banks as at today in terms of profit?

Almost all the Tier2 banks will deliver 100% this year and Tier1 may find it difficult to deliver 50% except Acess,Uba and Fbn which i am sure will spring surprises.
