9jakool:To add more to this point of yours. The Yoruba in rural or urban in Republique du Bénin are proud of Yoruba heritage. In fact in their museum they have Orisa ibeji etc statute as a form of attraction to the European,American tourists etc . The Yorubas in Bénin are always welcoming if they come in contact with Yorubas from Nigeria. They are honest and educated. |

ooduapathfinder:There are parts in Akoko Edo that are not Yoruba. It would have been extremely accurate if our people in those places is well emphasised. I would never subscribe to the ideology of occupying territory that doesn't glorify Yoruba land. We, Yoruba know our history and not land grabbers. However, In Ishekiri land, I believe. |
| Re: Draft Of The Oodua Region Yoruba Constitution by Olu317(m): 7:18am On Jul 01, 2017 |
Jetleeee:Let us not over drag this because Ishekiri is Yoruba offshoots. The reason people were not in tune with Yoruba tag at first is that, it was used to identify Odu'a descendants by the Malians traders , other traders of Arab descents and Berbers in the olden days. So, don't be too conservative to denying our other sibling in Ishekiri land access to Odua land. Beside, Ishekiri speaks 70.3% (Ijumu/Okun Yoruba), 71.5% (standard Yoruba), 72.0% (Ijesha), 74.0% ( Ekiti) of Yoruba language. Where do you place such people? You need to read their history, written by their people and you will understand ,where they identify with as far as Nigeria is concerned. |
| Re: Draft Of The Oodua Region Yoruba Constitution by Olu317(m): 7:39am On Jul 01, 2017 |
AshiwajuFoward:The most aggrieved are the Yoruba in kwara and Kogi and they are always willing to be part of the Yoruba race. Ishekiri isn't a Minority because they are Yoruba. It is only BINI Kingdom that need let be because they forgot their source. The reason you feel the rest don't identify openly is because many don't even know their history. This is the reason it seems so. The Olu Ishekiri/warri identify with ILE IFE, what does it mean?, We don't need soothsayer to know who ishekiri are. Though you have a valid point. But then, point can be valid and still not true. Let us continue with the good work and God will make it materialise. |

9jakool:I have visited benin and togo before and i must say that you are very right. There is no difference between us. I can differentiate an igbo person from yoruba by just looking at them. Same with yoruba and hausa, but i tried to do that with yorubas in benin and us in nigeria, but i could not find any difference. We have same facial features. Some still give their children tribal marks today. We behave same, think same, act same. They are very fluent in yoruba language. They also have their own dialects. If they speak and you dont listen attentively, you wont understand them...but yet, they speak yoruba. Majority of them cannot speak English language but French. Port norvo is their country capital and it is Yorubaland (not all sha) . They have access to sea. I just dont know why some Yorubas keep forcing themselves on Igbos and Hausas......people we share nothing in common with. See the way they put "One Nigeria" for head like gala....opening study threads and trying to convince them to stay in the same country with them. Stupid fools! Crazy people everywere! Eddiots! The eediots dont know that we have Yorubas outside the country we need to connect with. Do you know that some Yorubas dont even know that there are Yorubas in kwara and kogi states? Funny enough they are in the same country with them. This is what you get when you put "one nigeria" for head. They are trying to be patriotic to a doomed country while loosing their culture and pride. We need to leave nigeria. This stupid country cannot work. Things are not just right. |

Olu317:Egbon, itshekiri should not be included. These guys dont behave like yorubas. Some dont even like us. Even if they want to join, we should reject them. They have chosen another idemtity for themselves. They are not known as yoruba but itshekiri. Pls dont include them into that map. Let the stay on their own or with the minority south south |

9jakool:In my opinion, Lord Lugard must have been under the influence of demons when ceding what we know today as the Yoruba-speaking parts of Kwara and Kogi to the North. But regrettably, the damage has been done and part of the fallout of that decision is that it fostered an identity crisis in some of our subgroups trapped/ceded to the North. That is just the truth and reality we simply have to acknowledge. In Kwara, the igbominas, Ekitis, Ibolos, Ajase Ipos, and other non-ilorin Yorubas already pretty much see and count themselves as a part of the SW than the North -- this conclusion is based on my personal interactions with folks from these subgroups. Besides, my own mother hails from among the Igbominas domiciled in present-day Kwara. But the ilorins may be a tough nut to crack for obvious reasons. You will find that some (if not most) of those denying their Yoruba/Ife origins in those parts do so for purely political reasons (simply to demonstrate loyalty/allegiance to, please, and convince the 'core' Northerners) and nothing more. |

deedeedee1:I do understand your fear and I share it too. I only emphasise the connection with us. In fact some of them are Odu'a people Congress members. However, we,the larger congressional members of Yoruba stock are not land grabbers, so if they feel uncomfortable within Yoruba nation,we won't force ourselves on them . After all, Dutch, Britain etc are offshoots of Germanic stock and they are doing well. Ifè lo wolè dè ti a un ba Óoré jé éko, ti ilè ahún n to ahún jé. |

| Re: Draft Of The Oodua Region Yoruba Constitution by Olu317(m): 9:34am On Jul 01, 2017 |
AshiwajuFoward:You asserted the core problem with some Ilorin stock. In fact it was political and the loss of recognition from the Ilorin indigenes after OLU ILORIN Momoh was killed in an uprising in 1893 by other Yorubas in Ilorin . This is the reason for forceful allegiance with the Hausa Fulanis. If you check the current Emir of ILORIN,you will discover that he was the first Emir in ILORIN using the word and identifying with EMIR. The core Muslim clerics from Ilorin hardly use EMIR but referred as Olu Ilorin or Oba Ilorin. Still there is Oja Oba in Ilorin. The previous Leaders were called OLU–ILORIN. The Emir of Ilorin said he his a Muslim head teacher /leader of Muslims in Ilorin. Afonja family took Alimi descendants to court over Ilorin leadership tussle. The few elements in Ilorin, who are lukewarm In the agitation by the larger Yoruba over there are doing it for political reason. The Hausa–Fulani don't trust Ilorin people.Despite their forceful attache to Northern Nigeria, the Hausa Fulani have never use Ilorin Emir as a link to Yoruba land if they want any support of some sort . This is the Point. |

AshiwajuFoward:Bro I just have one correction for this your post, The Kwarans are more Yoruba than some Yorubas in the SW forget Nigeria's Geo political zoning. Go to Kwara and you will know. The Yorubas in Kogi are the ones that needs consulting, they are the ones that are drifting away but as for Kwara they are even more Yoruba than Ondo people. Akoko-Edo and Okun people in Kogi are the Yorubas drifting from the Bigger Yoruba entity. |

Channel that energy towards restructuring of Nigeria. Nobody is leaving this country. Nigeria is one and so shall it remain. Thank you |
| Re: Draft Of The Oodua Region Yoruba Constitution by Nobody: 10:49am On Jul 01, 2017 |
I used to think all Kwara Yorubas behave like their Hausa Fulani masters but I was wrong. I listened to Lagos talks two days ago and saw how Ayo (A kwaran) defended restructuring. He stood his grounds against the lousy Jimi disu who likes to shout shout and impose his opinions on people. He doesn't support restructuring and believes in his status quo, yet wants to use his platform to force everyone into submission. Ayo, if you're here on Nairaland, I'm so proud of you. Definitely not all kwarans lick aboki assess. Status quo only enclaves the southern regions and upholds the Hausa Fulani born to rule oligarchy. Op. Nice one. it's not sufficient to be drafting constitution up and down. We have to be vocal about what we really want. All these oduduwa republic today, lick abokiii asses tomorrow, open one Nigeria thread next day shows how unserious and divided we are. Except may be work is being done behind the scene. |

bakynes:Relatively speaking, when comparing Yorubas in both states (Kwara and Kogi), I'll have to agree that you are correct, and I think I addressed this in a subsequent post I made after the one you quoted. Though I attribute this attitudinal difference to several factors. |
