Huh...believe or not most applicants lately no matter the category of visas they're applying for are intended immigrants to hopefully emigrate permanent to the US even if they say otherwise.

However, I don't blame some...the current situation in Nigeria is chasing them away and making people come up with all kind of ideas to fool the US visa officers for escape visas...lol!

Na true oooo....dos going on student visa sef wil find a way to stay talkless of visiting visa...suffer dy naija aooo... Whu no like better thing?

Please, I currently have 700k in my account and I am just a secondary school teacher, earning less than 100k per month, I do freelancing to make ends meet.

Now, I want to travel to the States for Tourism, it will be probably be by April next year and by then, my money would av increased above 700k

I have lands I inherited from my father and I am the only son.

How do I prove my ties to Nigeria with the above listed and what's my probability of getting the visa?

Ok, to answer your original question

On proving your ties to Nigeria- it is totally left to you! You know what ties you to Nigeria and no one can help you with that as we do not know you. Being an only son is definitely not a tie but if you think it will help you, feel free to tell the VO during the interview.

On the probability of getting the visa- again, no one can tell you that.

Read through the thread, evaluate yourself, go for your interview and let us know how it goes

I think it's best we ask LagosNIV and AbujaNIV for their input as I noticed Rachie83, Seyewest and myself have conflicting views on this.

Pls how do I get more info on the J-1 visa. Can u help please
Champora:
By the way is there anyone who wants someone's experience on the J-1 Visa?

This is a long read.

I got my J1 Visa in June 2017 but it was only for a duration of about 6 weeks as the Visa expired immediately after my program ended in July 2017. I was going for a five weeks summer study in the US.

I was a recipient of a U.S Department of State Sponsored Scholarship program for Student Leaders hence my J-1 visa. For those of us who were US Government Sponsored, the U.S Embassy & Consulate took charge of lots of our visa processes. I got my visa interview barely a week before I left Nigeria for my program.

My Visa Interview?

We (grantees of us sponsored program) didn't exactly stand on the same line as everyone else, we were directed to a different cubicle where a lot was done. Like giving our passports to the VO and DS 2019.

We witnessed a lot of interviews because some of us (grantees) were made to sit & wait until almost every one finished their interviews. I think the particular VO was working on our visas since we all had the same J1 standing.

In another cubicle, There was one particular guy who said he was traveling to meet his girl friend (or was it fiancee?) in the US. He was shaky and nervous and the VO asked him the time difference between Nigeria and where his woman stayed in the US, the young man couldn't answer. He kept saying that he and his woman spoke for very long hours. The VO asked him like 3 more times the same question, she even explained it to him by saying that if it's night in Nigeria, what time is it when he calls her in US? But the young man fumbled. He said that in fact, they had spoken before he came for the interview for hours... Of course he wasn't given the visa.

There was another lady who wanted to go over too to meet her man. She brought pictures and everything and an album. It was a scary situation if the VO would approve or not. I can't remember what happened next but I witnessed quite a number of interviews, brief and short.

When it was turn for me to get interviewed,

I went to the VO, I was also scared myself. Note that the room was nearly empty.

V.o. Smiles, how are you?

Me: I'm fine thank you.

V.o. So you're traveling to California too?

Me. Yes I am.

V.o ever been to the us before?

Me. No

Vo. Well have a great time in the US!

Me. Thank you.

Well... The consulate already had all my information and where I was going to sleep and my flight. This was because they were in charge of scheduling all those for us.

That was it. For my visa process, yes I filled my Ds-160 on my own but the us officer in charge of our program did the scheduling of appointment.

I haven't found so much information on J1 on Nairaland so I'm Sharing my own experience.

@champora. Indeed we need thread on J1 visa. I too I got the opportunity to travel to the united state on an exchange program next year January for 6weeks. but my concern is the mandatory 2years home residence appearance after the program. I guess it will be easier going back after the 2years.

I once asked same question on this thread and LagosNIV said the same thing I said now. She need to renew her passport.
I have checked your previous posts and noticed you were right about LagosNIV's post concerning the six months validity. This was the post in question:

LagosNIV:
Hello salsera -

Your statement is incorrect. To enter the US you must have a valid visa (valid on the date of entry, doesn't matter how much longer it is valid for) and a passport that is valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry. If Rachie83 is planning to travel to the US in November 2017 then the Passport expiring in February 2018 will be a problem. She should renew the passport before traveling. If she has a visa in the passport that expires February 2018 she can bring that passport with her along with her new passport to be allowed entry. Alternatively, she can renew the passport before her interview so that it is all in 1 passport.

The above post of his, which was made in September 21, kind of contradicts what he posted thereafter in November 15. The above post insists one must have six months validity on his passport on entering the US while the latter post says one only needs to have a passport with validity that will cover the intended period of stay. I'll post it here again:

LagosNIV:
Hello Od31 -

I have checked the U.S. Department of State website (https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/tourism-visit/visitor.html#ExternalPopup) and the website says Nigeria, amongst a few other countries, is exempt from the six month validity rule.

But don't get me wrong, I advocate that one should always renew his passport, if he or ahe can, before embarking on a journey. But if the journey is an emergency and the intended period of stay is within the validity remaining in the passsport then that person should embark on that journey and then proceed to renew the passport on return.

The post by LagosNIV on the need for 6 months validity was in September 21 while the one exempting Nigeria was done in November 15. So I think that of November 15 should supercede that of September 21 smiley

Big thanks for dz. You are actually right there's no problem with it at POE,for it is stated that i only need ti have a passport valid till the end of my intended stay. the only issue is with the airline. Infact, i had a chat with them and i was told if the validity isnt beyond 6month, i won't be allowed to board...

Good morning gurus in the house,
Please i need help.

My husband has traveled to the United state twice and my visa just got approved.
We planned to travel at the end of the year majorly because it would be my first time and all. But ticket prices are high. We plan to travel in late feb.

Please, what are the implications of not traveling at the stated time as stated in the ds-160?
Re: USA Visit Visa Part 3 by irawo16(m): 2:15am On Dec 22, 2017
Its doesn't mean anything but make sure you are traveling to the same STATE you filled in your DS 160

I don't understand your question.
But all I can say is, if any info in your form is false, then it is misrepresentation and cannot be treated flippantly or under an assumption that your confidence can cover up for it. If you have misrepresented, then fill a new form and have the embassy Change it.
It's better to do that now than be refused for a reason that makes zero sense and then cry wolf later
