In as much as I empathized with the man, the blame rest on him to expect a woman to commit to him after he has helped her elevated her hypergamous nature. Women usually date people in the same or above level. Paying her way through uni just helped amplified her nature and will not go back to dating low.

Hope others learn from this. Love truly makes some people blind.

He took a chance. sometimes it works ,sometimes it doesn't.
It's not a good idea.Marriage should be by mutual consent not as a sense of obligation .He should move on,such is life

I am going to be brief about this issue.
It's about those guys that love to complain bitterly about how they trained a lady in a higher institution with hope of marrying her after she graduates, only for the lady to graduate and dump him.
I have witnessed one, the guy a wealthy trader brought the girl from the village somewhere in the east,
Trained her in Uniabuja, she did a four years course, graduated and served in Oyo state, while in Nysc, she started giving the young man attitude in terms of communication,
When the surprised guy pressed hard to inquire About what the problem is from his "future wife "
The girl told him plain and pure that he should get another girl and marry, that if she get a job in the future, she may repay him all that he spent on her.
The downcasted young man attempted suicide by mixing rat poison in his food, it was unbearable for him,
All his profits he spent on this girl,
His friends warned him, his sister was not in support yet being a guy madly in love, how can you think he will listen to you.
Luckily he was revived at a hospital after a young cousin alerted his neighbors who rushed in and saw how life is trying to snuff out of him, they rushed him to the hospital for medical help.
.
I felt so sorry for him .
Inasmuch as the girl was mean by playing with the young man emotion all along.
I strongly blame the young man for being stupid.
Had it been that he married the girl and then start training her, that's fine, many men do it.
But he placed his hope on that after training her, the girl will accept to marry him,
He took a risk but it backfired.
Had it been that he wanted to train her just for kindness sake and don't have any marriage objectives in mind, that would be understandable.
Both of them share in the blame.
.
As a guy, Can you train a girl in higher institution with hope of marrying her after she graduates?
.
As a girl, if a guy you don't have affection for offers to train you in the University, will you pretend to love him?
After graduating, if he proposes ,will you accept?

.
Let's discuss grin grin cheesy

The story doesn't add up.You said he is wealthy and at the same time you said he spent all his profits training her in Uniabuja. How much is tuition, hostel and how much was her upkeep in uniabuja? The guy certainly isn't as wealthy as you are making it to look like.

Well you marry first before training any babe in school.Do you know how many guys will toast her while in school She will certainly meet other guys. Some may even be wealthier than you the sponsor. It makes no sense sponsoring a babe when you haven't wife's her. Most times these babes r rally beautiful but come from poor homes. They play along and then dump the guys once they graduate.

Only a foolish man would use his hard earned money to sponsor a girl through school with the hopes of marrying her.

Who the hell does that these days when the chances of her sticking with you in the future is slim! I'd rather use that money on a profitable business with a very high return on investment. I can't be doing the job of your parents all in the name of love.

You ask who the hell does that? Who else except stupid igbo men? I am yet to see another tribe engage in such wastage. My first encounter with this madness when I was around 7 year old was also an igbo man called Ndubisi who was spare part dealer at Ngbuka around surulere...

Subsequent stories I have heard have all been igbo men and the one shared by the OP is clearly an igbo man too. What a miserable way to spend your hard earned money.

I can't train any lady in school with the hope of marrying her, I don't wish to date an illiterate, I just don't want liability, I can't tolerate or stress myself for any woman who's not my mum, sister or wife, I detest needy ladies, I hate pests, not from any lady.

But if I find what I want from a woman in an illiterate, I'll kindly marry her and get her pregnant before sending her to school.

I must have a reason to hold while training her in school, which is "She's my wife"

Amara one question i would like to ask is if the man himself is a graduate. Have come to believe this usually happens when the man uses his money to raise a girl he hopes to marry to levels she starts feeling superior.

Succintly put!

I wonder, at times, as to the level of stupidity of some guys. Why, as you said, should I guy take over the responsibility of a lady’s parents?

If they can’t ‘train’ her, then they should source for capital to set her up in any small-scale business she desires. EOD

Seriously I've never been wired to buy cream and drop money for hair for any girl.

I love independent ladies that we see ourselves in a light where we can take healthy decisions and compliment one another.

I have this lady friend that I sent money to because of a need that came up and after that I had to call up my mum to check her phone because I credited her account with same amount.

Maybe I'm weird angry

Nice guy! If I give money to any girl, I send my mum double the amount.

to all those saying marry her first, DON'T BE NAIVE OR CAUGHT UN-AWARE !

I have an elderly friend who sent his wife that bore him 4 children to school, the wife later left him to remarry a graduate!
the trauma lunched the man into depression but He later got over it.

AFTER WOMEN, FEAR WOMEN!...a word is enough!

Back to the topic, women are the most ungrateful creature on earth.

If you see a lady you like and you want to
train her at the university and later marry her , my
advice would be marry her and then train her. If
she says you must train her before you marry her then run for your life unless you're interested in doing charity.
women are ungrateful ? It’s men who taught them ! Do you know how many women married guys with “ potential “ sacrificed their careers so the man will not be emasculated yet the guy dumped them or married second wife after everything ? Women are ungrateful creatures indeed !

You don’t invest in someone whom you do not have a future with. For Instance I can understand a husband or wife encouraging their spouse to return to school or better themselves in anyway. But to invest in someone with the automatic assumption that they will be yours is entrapment.
Of the highest level!

Sometimes I wonder if I live in a different universe from most fellows here on Nairaland.

I began funding my Lady's education about her third year. Her family was going through a tough patch. It was the least I could do. I paid for her entire final year and youth service. Interestingly, it was during her youth service that I proposed to her.

She paid me back. In spades. He family funded almost 80% of our wedding as I had just lost my job (I had an offer on hold at that time though) and my family was going through a tough patch.

So I've had no reason to regret my Lady chopping my moni. It's been well worth it.
