Question: "Is the New World Translation a valid version of the Bible?"

Answer: The New World Translation (NWT) is defined by the Jehovah's Witnesses’ parent organization (the Watchtower Society) as "a translation of the Holy Scriptures made directly from Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek into modern-day English by a committee of anointed witnesses of Jehovah." The NWT is the anonymous work of the “New World Bible Translation Committee.” Jehovah’s Witnesses claim that the anonymity is in place so that the credit for the work will go to God. Of course, this has the added benefit of keeping the translators from any accountability for their errors and prevents real scholars from checking their academic credentials.

The New World Translation is unique in one thing – it is the first intentional, systematic effort at producing a complete version of the Bible that is edited and revised for the specific purpose of agreeing with a group's doctrine. The Jehovah’s Witnesses and the Watchtower Society realized that their beliefs contradicted Scripture. So, rather than conforming their beliefs to Scripture, they altered Scripture to agree with their beliefs. The “New World Bible Translation Committee” went through the Bible and changed any Scripture that did not agree with Jehovah’s Witness theology. This is clearly demonstrated by the fact that, as new editions of the New World Translation were published, additional changes were made to the biblical text. As biblical Christians continued to point out Scriptures that clearly argue for the deity of Christ (for example), the Watchtower Society would publish new editions of the New World Translation with those Scriptures changed. Here are some of the more prominent examples of intentional revisions:

The NWT gives the translation "presence" instead of “coming” for the Greek word parousia because Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that Christ has already returned in the early 1900s. In Colossians 1:16, the NWT inserts the word “other” despite its being completely absent from the original Greek text. It does this to give the view that “all other things” were created by Christ, instead of what the text says, “all things were created by Christ.” This is to go along with their belief that Christ is a created being, which they believe because they deny the Trinity.

The most well-known of all the New World Translation perversions is John 1:1. The original Greek text reads, “the Word was God.” The NWT renders it as “the word was a god.” This is not a matter of correct translation, but of reading one's preconceived theology into the text, rather than allowing the text to speak for itself. There is no indefinite article in Greek (in English, "a" or "an"], so any use of an indefinite article in English must be added by the translator. This is grammatically acceptable, so long as it does not change the meaning of the text.

There is a good reason why theos has no definite article in John 1:1 and why the New World Translation rendering is in error. There are three general rules we need to understand to see why.

1. In Greek, word order does not determine word usage like it does in English. In English, a sentence is structured according to word order: Subject - Verb - Object. Thus, "Harry called the dog" is not equivalent to "the dog called Harry." But in Greek, a word's function is determined by the case ending found attached to the word's root. There are two case endings for the root theo: one is -s (theos), the other is -n (theon). The -s ending normally identifies a noun as being the subject of a sentence, while the -n ending normally identifies a noun as the direct object.

2. When a noun functions as a predicate nominative (in English, a noun that follows a being verb such as "is"], its case ending must match the noun's case that it renames, so that the reader will know which noun it is defining. Therefore, theo must take the -s ending because it is renaming logos. Therefore, John 1:1 transliterates to "kai theos en ho logos." Is theos the subject, or is logos? Both have the -s ending. The answer is found in the next rule.

3. In cases where two nouns appear, and both take the same case ending, the author will often add the definite article to the word that is the subject in order to avoid confusion. John put the definite article on logos (“the Word”) instead of on theos. So, logos is the subject, and theos is the predicate nominative. In English, this results in John 1:1 being read as "and the Word was God" (instead of "and God was the word"].

The most revealing evidence of the Watchtower's bias is their inconsistent translation technique. Throughout the Gospel of John, the Greek word theon occurs without a definite article. The New World Translation renders none of these as “a god.” Even more inconsistent, in John 1:18, the NWT translates the same term as both "God" and "god" in the very same sentence.

The Watchtower, therefore, has no hard textual grounds for their translation—only their own theological bias. While New World Translation defenders might succeed in showing that John 1:1 can be translated as they have done, they cannot show that it is the proper translation. Nor can they explain the fact that that the NWT does not translate the same Greek phrases elsewhere in the Gospel of John the same way. It is only the pre-conceived heretical rejection of the deity of Christ that forces the Watchtower Society to inconsistently translate the Greek text, thus allowing their error to gain some semblance of legitimacy in the minds of those ignorant of the facts.

It is only the Watchtower's pre-conceived heretical beliefs that are behind the dishonest and inconsistent translation that is the New World Translation. The New World Translation is most definitely not a valid version of God’s Word. There are minor differences among all the major English translations of the Bible. No English translation is perfect. However, while other Bible translators make minor mistakes in the rendering of the Hebrew and Greek text into English, the NWT intentionally changes the rendering of the text to conform to Jehovah’s Witness theology. The New World Translation is a perversion, not a version, of the Bible.

Bad Translations of the Jehovah's Witness' Bible, the New World Translation (NWT).


Following are some of the many bad "translations" offered by the watchtower Bible Track Society's translation of the Bible known as the New World Translation (NWT). Because the Jehovah's Witness organization denies the deity of both Jesus and the Holy Spirit, they have altered the text of God's word to reflect their presuppositions.

I have cited the NASB Bible, a very accurate translation and compared it with the NWT. I also underlined the important changes so you can more easily see them.

Genesis 1:1-2 (NASB), "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters."

NWT: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and desolate, and there was darkness upon the surface of the watery deep, and God’s active force was moving about over the surface of the waters.

The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society denies that the Holy Spirit is alive, the third person of the Trinity. Therefore, they have changed the correct translation of "...the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters," to say "...and God's active force was moving over the surface of the waters."

The Holy Spirit is not God's active force. The Holy Spirit speaks. An active force does not speak.

Acts 8:29, "Then the Spirit said to Philip, “Go up and join this chariot.”

Acts 13:2, "While they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”



Zechariah 12:10 (NASB), "And I [God] will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son."

NWT: “I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the spirit of favor and supplication, and they will look to the one whom they pierced, and they will wail over him as they would wail over an only son; and they will grieve bitterly over him as they would grieve over a firstborn son
.
The Jehovah's Witnesses change the word "me" to "the one" so that it says in their Bible, "...they will look upon the one whom they have pierced..." Since the Jehovah's Witnesses deny that Jesus is God in flesh, then Zech. 12:10 would present obvious problems, so they changed it.




John 1:1 (NASB), "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."

NWT: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was a god."
The Watchtower mistranslate the verse as "a god."

Again, because the Jehovah's Witnesses deny God in flesh for the Scriptures (John 1:1, 14; Col. 2:9), they must change the Bible to make it agree with their theology. The Jehovah's Witness version in the New World Translation says, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was a god."
Notice that "a god" is there so-called translation. But this is problematic since it would imply polytheism. I asked Jehovah's Witnesses if they believe Jesus was a god. When they say yes, then I bring up the error of their polytheism.

John 14:10 (NASB), “Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works."

NWT: "Do you not believe that I am in union with the Father and the Father is in union with me? The things I say to you I do not speak of my own originality, but the Father who remains in union with me is doing his works."

This is another obvious alteration in the New World translation. In their attempt to avoid the deity of Christ, they scour the Bible and alter any verses that would suggest that Jesus is divine.




Colossians 1:15-17 (NASB), "He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. 17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together."

NWT: "He is the image of the invisible God,m the firstborn of all creation; 16 because by means of him all other things were created in the heavens and on the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All other things have been created through him and for him. 17 Also, he is before all other things, and by means of him all other things were made to exist."

The word "other" is inserted four times in the NWT. It is not in the original Greek, nor is it implied.
This is a section where Jesus is described as being the creator of all things. Since the Jehovah's Witness organization believes that Jesus is created, they have inserted the word "other" to show that Jesus was before all "other" things that were created, implying that He is also created.
There are two Greek words for "other": heteros, and allos. The first means another of a different kind, and the second means another of the same kind. Neither is used at all in this section of scripture. The Jehovah's Witness have changed the Bible to make it fit their aberrant theology.



Hebrews 1:6 (NASB), "And when He again brings the firstborn into the world, He says, 'and let all the angels of God worship him.'”

NWT: "But when he again brings his Firstbornm into the inhabited earth, he says: 'And let all of God’s angels do obeisance to him.'”

In this verse they translate the Greek word for worship, proskuneo, as "obeisance." Obeisance is a word that means to honor, show respect, even bow down before someone. Since Jesus, to them, is created, then he cannot be worshiped. They have also done this in other verses concerning Jesus, i.e., Matt. 2:2,11; 14:33; 28:9.




Hebrews 1:8 (NASB), "But of the Son He says, 'Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, and the righteous scepter is the scepter of his kingdom.'"

NWT: "But about the Son, he says: 'God is your throne forever and ever, and the scepter of your Kingdom is the scepter of uprightness.'"

This is a verse where God the Father is calling Jesus God: "But about the Son he says, 'Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever, and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom.'" Since the Jehovah's Witnesses don't agree with that, they have changed the Bible, yet again, to agree with their theology. They have translated the verse as "...God is your throne..." The problem with the Jehovah's Witness translation is that this verse is a quote from Psalm 45:6 which, from the Hebrew, can only be translated as "...Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom." To justify their New Testament translation they actually changed the OT verse to agree with their theology, too!


Conclusion on the New World Transation
The NWT translation is a bad translation. It has changed the text to suit its own theological bias in many places. It misrepresents the person and work of Christ as well as the personhood of the Holy Spirit. The New World translation should be avoided.

Thank God the man of God is still standing
for holiness and righteousness. But here are
some old beliefs of WF kumuyi in which he
latter sent into oblivion.
1) TELEVISION- In the early days of Deeper
life church. Television and anything that

The onus probandi is on you to supply evidence to back up your claim. If you are to make a claim that DL decreed that the use of television was forbidden for its members then show factual references not gossips and hearsay. Let me educate you on how to back up your claim with the use of references that can be checked up by anyone.

The Watchtower Society claims to be the only prophet on earth today. (The Watchtower, April 1, 1972, page 197).

The Bible says that a true prophet of God should always be 100% accurate otherwise he is a false prophet.

"But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in My name, which I have not commanded him to speak or that shall speak in the name of other gods even that prophet shall die. And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath no spoken? When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him" (Deuteronomy 18:20-22).

In 1920, the Watchtower Society predicted the physical return of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and the faithful prophets of old for 1925. (Millions Now Living Will Never Die, published by Watchtower, 1920, pages 89-90).

Did they show up? No, they have not showed up as we speak. This is proof that the Watchtower Society made a false prophecy. Instead of your society to own up and admit that they've blown it, they attempted to cover up their blunder, in 1929 to 1930 they built a mansion in San Diego, California for those prophets, still stringing you people along that the prophets will still appear and dwell there. Have they? No. This is just one of the dozens of other false prophecies to take place in 1914 (The Time Is At Hand by C.T. Russel, 1889, published by Watchtower, page 101). They also claimed Jesus began his invisible rule over the earth in 1914 (The Truth Shall Make You Free, page 300). Then it was changed to 1918, 1925, 1941 and eventually to 1975.

All these proves that the Watchtower Society are false prophets and are not to be trusted according to the word of God.

The Jehovah's Witnesses change the word "me" to "the one" so that it says in their Bible, "...they will look upon the one whom they have pierced..." Since the Jehovah's Witnesses deny that Jesus is God in flesh, then Zech. 12:10 would present obvious problems, so they changed it.

Again, because the Jehovah's Witnesses deny God in flesh for the Scriptures (John 1:1, 14; Col. 2:9), they must change the Bible to make it agree with their theology. Notice that "a god" is there so-called translation. But this is problematic since it would imply polytheism. I asked Jehovah's Witnesses if they believe Jesus was a god.

The verses your Watchtower Society uses when forbidding you to do blood transfusion are Genesis 9:4; Leviticus 7:26-27; Acts 15:19-29 and the like. What God is addressing in those verses has nothing to do with blood transfusion it was about the eating of animal's blood and blood transfusion is not the same thing as eating animal blood. So you cannot use those verses as proof that God is against blood transfusion, they do not apply at all. This is what Jesus said:

"There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man" (Mark 7:15).

And if you are saying that 'the Watchtower have never done that' here is the proof:

It is also true that the Watchtower deceive you to earn your salvation by selling their magazines door to door trying to make the quotas. Do you really believe that their magazines them is from God and are infallible? Are they inspired? Here is proof that you think it is from God and not to be questioned:

Salvation is by faith and works you do, Studies in the Scriptures, vol. 1 page 150, 152 (You asked for proof, you got proof).

And because of the fear of being slaughtered in the Battle of Armageddon you have to be a good 'missionary' working yours socks off as a 'faithful witness.'

Some of you may even be called upon to be undercover agents (One of your new recruits here on NL will become handy here because of his previous experience of working as Mafia). Who will be called upon to follow members who appear to be suspect and thereby reports them to the elders who will in turn send the information to the Headquarters in New York to be placed in their files.

You guys must be a miserable lot and your hearts really empty. You need to begin to doubt if your elders really received this so called "new light" from the 'angels' sitting comfortably at the headquarters in NY.

You need to begin to seriously study the Bible independently. The Watchtower has led you down the alley to believe another gospel and the God you are serving is not the God of the Bible. You can't earn your salvation by works (See Galatians 2:16; Ephesians 2:8,9) like selling watchtower materials.

The Bible says that we will all stand before God and be judged by the Word (John 12:48). We should all make sure that the Word of God is our final authority and not the Watchtower or any other sort of material. Who are you going to believe? God or the Watchtower Society? Jesus is Jehovah, repent of your sin and accept Him as your Saviour to be set free.
