She cannot abandon school and her chance for a better future to sit and babysit her mum. Her mum has lived her life and made her choices.

The Op can help her better if she has an education, a business, etc. She can call her often and see her as often as she can. But much more, she owes herself a better life which her mum will end up benefitting from

I feel so sad about this situation cos your mum is just a widow trying to make ends meet. But the signs were all over the place that the man was no good, but your mum chose to be gullible.

I however wonder the kind of bank that would provide a loan for oil bunkering undecided undecided. It is an illegal business and if she had asked questions she would know that oil bunkering has become extremely difficult in ph for the last 5 years. Trucks are continually burnt by army and people are arrested/killed all the time.

That being said, I think the best thing for you now is to focus intensely on your own life. Your education is important, but with the situation on ground, you really need a side hustle. Do a research and see what business you can do online that would require little or no capital. The poultry business is something you can do after school coz you already have experience and contacts. Good luck and God bless.

Your mom obviously is attracted to senseless men. I'm sorry but I have no fck to give to your mom for dating and willing to learn the tricks of oil bunkering from a criminal.

Wait, do you think your mom deserves a good man? Hating on men because of your mother's decision to romanticise with a criminal is a waste of time.

Responsible men are not in that line of trade. How can your mother ignore all the descent places in this country for the creeks? It's like taking a wife from a brothel and hoping to find her hymen intact.

I think you should focus on your life at this point. You're too young to worry your head over your mother's choices. There are places decent men don't go to; but women will go there looking for decent husbands.

Fortunately a good number of this "poor people" are able to finish school and end up doing well financially.

She has already said the businesses were closed down. Her mother can resuscitate the business and run it since she has left the man.

At this age, the op should be focused on shaping her future and if she believes school will do that for her, she should be encouraged.

You might be typing from the US perhaps? undecided
Them dey focus on shaping the future with empty hand?
Yes things might turn around for good for sure, but it will come with a lot of pain, sweat, blood and suffering that is why I am telling her to brace up because her unrealistic decision making tendencies just earned her a lot of suffering.
She might still make it good in life but would have achieved so a whole lot easier if not for the mistake she made.
I honestly wish her well but I had to highlight the part where she went wrong so others can LEARN from it and know how to make better decisions!

Don't say what you don't know.
Some of those men that drive 2019 range rover velar, send kids abroad for holidays and studies, sit in front rows of churches and help the poor, live in duplexes with lots of properties, highly educated with white collar ambitions are in the creeks.
I know some of these men.

I'm not defining responsibility by the fatness of a man's bank account or the geography of the creeks. I'm defining responsibility by the context and content of a man's moral uprightness which, to a large extent, includes the legality and the nature of his trade or source of income. A wealthy oil criminal by and large is still a criminal in the eye of the law and is liable to the same treatment that befalls criminals.

A woman hoping to date or marry a decent man of value, good morals and character will not look in the direction of oil criminals or yahoo boys, rich or poor.

I see.
So it is safe to say there are no good men by your standards then since everyone both in corporate Nigeria and otherwise seem to be in one form of financial fraud or the other.
Bank managers give under the table loans for kickbacks, people in the civil service award contracts to bidders based on the fatness of the kickback, pastors eat God's tithe, private firm runners do a lot of deals, pension cuts by the same people you adore,Doctors sell their own drugs purchased from heaven knows where using hospital structure at hospital prices for money, night life people too switch drinks with theirs for profit maximization, retail too does the same products switching for money reasons,etc...
So it is safe to say everyone is lowest of the low by yoyr accessment?
There is only one truth in this world,it is simply money.
And the good thing is no one cares where it comes from, even you smiley whether you chose to accept that fact or not,it really doesn't matter since it is the truth and you know it.

The doctors I know care for the sick, diagnose and treat all kinds of ailment. The Pharmacists in my cycle dispense and administer drugs to patients. The bankers in my cycle manage financial transactions and, so far, my account officer has not stolen my money from my accounts.

So what do oil bunkerers do exactly?

It is not about money but the length at which a man can go to make money. A man willing to damage pipelines and government properties, kill, or engage in all forms of illegalities is capable of doing anything else called evil and criminal. That's the point. So, a woman that ignores these traits should get ready to swallow the ills in marriage.

You cannot date or marry a criminal and expect someone like me to mourn or send "moral" epistles to a man or woman with no moral compass.

I do not believe in morality because such a thing does not exist in capitalism.
Some of the people you all claim to be moral aren't moral at all na,you should know that.
What of industrialist that dump toxic waste in the open ocean?
Pharmaceutical companies that create diseases and later release the formula after causing so many death and pain?
If not for CIPLA(Indian pharmaceutical company),I hope you know many people living with HIV would have died due to the cost these Europeans wanted to put in acquiring ARVs.Now how many Nigerians especially would have been able to afford treatment?
What of People who bribe/strike deals with governments to twist business/financial policies in the favour especially our known hero DANGOTE?
Imagine you being a cement importer with the rest of your pals and one of your competitor runs behind your backs and strike a deal with the custodians of the law to ban the import of cement since he was building a factory already?
Before you all count your losses, regroup and build a factory too,he must have been So rich that competing with him in the same market will be outright foolishness.
Do all these sound moral to you?
I AM NOT AND WILL NEVER BE A MORAL PERSON BECAUSE ALL OF THEM(MORAL PEOPLE) ARE ALWAYS IN TERRIBLE PLACES(NEWSPAPER STANDS,CHURCHES,DESTITUTE HOMES,ASYLUM,CHARITY BENEFICIARIES ETC..)
I can't kill for money or use weapons, but I can participate fully in other activities irrespective of where the difference comes from.
The earlier we accept this, the better for us as a people.
Not like morality matters anyways, capitalists know better cool

You must create your own world and not live through your mothers world. It's a shame that your mum found a way to attract horrible men (including your dad, in your own words). Just know that they are lot of good guys out there and you will be losing a lot by having the mind set that all men are evil or by trying to become a bitch.
Your mum was not bewitched, she just made terrible choices when it came to men. Some people just love without their head. Sorry about your experience, just don't let it scar you.
