I agree with you. Ppl that are shouting haven't travelled abroad. Most European airports ask you to declare the cash equivalent of goods over a certain amount. Failure to do so means you are smuggling into the country. The lady who claimed she bought it from a duty free shop knew what she was doing. If she didn't buy from the duty free shop, she would have paid tax in her departure country.
This is a big lie.

You are asked to declare cash/monetary instruments above 10k and not goods over 10k.

With a MacBook pro 2019 2.4ghz an Apple watch and an iPhone, you already have goods worth 5k.

10k in goods is not hard to meet.

This is the worst government ever!!
we have made the biggest mistake as a nation.
A country of 200 million people with lots of educated and outstanding people and this is the kind of president we can provide ? There's a big chance he is not even aware of this development.

I thought the VP was a man of God? Why is all this happening under his watch and he can't do anything about it ?
How do business people international businesses strive here ? How do poor people ever become rich ? If they want money, there are more than 100 ways to do it instead of enforcing stupid policies.

We have made the biggest mistake as a nation! I regret voting for this govt.
Start saving money for a visa..

The North is ready to fully show that the country belongs to them and they are convinced nobody can do anything about it.

The VP is powerless. He is a figurehead. The power rests with Buhari.

Next time.. dont bring in wrapped or seal items... for anything that will like brand new...

I park my stuff well and declare it personal items.. since you can't find them sealed. For it to be brand new.

My main concern is that this government is not accountable, judging from their refusal to account for how they they spend the recovered Abacha loot and other monies flowing into government account

You are correct, I apologize for that. However, if bring in goods,it must be within you duty-free limit (I.e it must be for your personal use or given as gift). However, you cannot sell it without paying duties.

However, I've seen them stop some guys who arrived Heathrow with lots of expensive wristwatches without declaring them.

That's preposterous. How can you charge a traveller for her personal item regardless of the cost? So if a traveller wears a rolex watch- a persona item- and arrives at the airport, then he has to pay a duty on that? It's one thing if the person is bringing the good in for sale but when its a personal item and probably has been in use, why make the person pay a duty? I can't for the life of me understand the reasoning behind that.

The law fixes the duty at 30%. It remains so until it is amended.

Have you not heard the custom boss complaining about the unproductive law? Tell the member and senator representing your constituency to sponsor the bill for amendment.

You guys supporting Buhari and this his custom boss taxing Nigerians anyhow, are you guys aware that this same custom boss closed down all the car dealership and car shops in Lagos some weeks ago, asking them to pay heavy taxes for selling smuggled cars in the past decades Some were mandated to pay as huge as 15million naira tax, for what

You guys should keep supporting Buhari....but we the enlightened ones will keep sounding it for all to hear that Buhari and his cronies have finished Nigeria's treasury, so they are looking desperately for ways to raise money to cover up the money they looted and the ones they used in rigging the last election, kontinuuu, e concern me undecided undecided

It is the FG that wants the reliance on them. Restructure now. They wont. Cause politicians who want to occupyAso Rock want to control oil n gas resources while those from which it comes live in poverty.
I the reason the people WE PUT IN POWER don't want to have a discussion about restructuring is because they don't think it will benefit them, despite the fact that the current system is not working in favour of the common man.

That is the Pandora’s box that woman has opened. There are a lot of laws that are not strictly enforced. We may start to see enforcement going forward

There's no duty free limit for personal items.

It's hard to prove that 10 expensive wristwatches still in the pack belongs to you as personal items.

I thought we are supposed to be protected/ helped by the government?
Why are they so mean to us...

They don't want to hear the masses complain...

Oh lord help us!

Like 29% tax on items above 50k. Not much biz in nigeria can boast of such profit per item. Failed country. Where d scam is scamming d scammer

Anything that will encourage patronisation of local products should be commended . The hypocrisy of Nigerianyouths is second to none, they lament high rate of unemployment bedevilling the country simultaneously sabotaging government policies aimed at improving entrepreneurship
