You people should get things straight.... You should be able to cater for your children the basic things like... Good food.. Good education.. Good shelter and little fun... And go and check statistics... The chances of a child being successful in life.. Is proportional to the quality of life he lives... The number 1 reason why people succeed is having people around you who can make you succeed... And where Most do you meet them... School and where you are able to work...

Isit a child that was made to go and do househelp.. That has more chances in life to be successful... If you know what those children pass through... Most especially the female ones...you will know that... Give birth to the number of children you can cater for

Some people av just 2 and they will still send them to do househelp.

I know this my thread might get some people angry but it’s a subject that surprises me whenever I think of it. How do normal Nigerians who are educated have more than 2 children in a country like Nigeria with all the poverty & hopelessness? I am still single but I have it in mind to lay a ground rule that whichever woman I marry must agree to family planing methods after the birth of the 1st child whether male or female. And if the 1st baby is male, we can as well wait for another 5 years before having a baby of either sex as the last.

But I wonder when I see Nigerians that are not so wealthy giving birth to 4 - 5 kids in the midst of grinding economic depression and in a nation that has clearly failed. Don’t these Nigerians know that the country can descend into war anytime due to the instability that is so palpable? I get afraid when I see couples who have 4 children in this day & age so I always wonder how they are coping with the stress & the bills. I also wonder why they are not afraid of Nigeria.

You can do a vasectomy after your second child.

I totally agree with you OP, but may I please ask that you adopt the 2 instead of having them biologically. In the midst of grinding economic depression, please lead by example and take 2 children in in stead of creating more - prove your altruism.

Nice one

The thing na African mentality.even in Europe, people don't have so much children except the migrants from Africa and Asia and some poor Europeans migrants who see it as a means of collecting child benefits on monthly basis.honestly ,raising up so many children is not easy even abroad, when you have children. There are lots of things you cant do again because there are lots of responsibility attached to it.

quote author=uninspired07 post=85298727]

The issue is not even having many children, but having them in a failed country like naija, which makes it harder to evacuate them in a crisis situation or when the country descends into a civil war. I talk like this because I am very observant & I pay attention to the political happenings in Nigeria & I know the country is on a very precarious state & will not get better any time soon.[/quote]

It depends on your choice. Some are wealthy and likes a full house while some are struggling and would prefer 2 with lot of spacing.

Sometimes it isn't even about the money

The stress is usually when they are still young but believe me when they start working and of age, and they start calling you iya professionals and your children are doing well, you will be fulfilled and happy and forget all the stress.

Either 2 or 6 may God give us the strength to take care of them and reap from our work

I like a full house, so I am going for 3 at least and four at most.

But hubby says 2 tongue

This is a lie & you know it but I won’t argue with you.

You just want more innocent Nigerians to fall into the poverty hole you’ve dug yourself into.

If my education cannot teach me to fear Nigeria, what have my parents gained in educating me? This is a failed contraption & our children deserve better.

I'm not poor bro. I'm not even married.

But even if you shout from now till tomorrow, people will still give birth to 5 children and not suffer for it. And there is nothing your wailing ass can do about it cool

All throughout the West, birth/fertility rates have dropped below population replacement level (around 2 children per woman), which means if not for immigration, many Western countries would have receding populations. China despite relaxing its one child rule has a very low birth rate. It's in the natural cycle of developed or seriously developing economies to have low birth rates due to the empowered, career-focused female population. It's generally mostly the poorest, most poorly educated, underdeveloped countries in the world (like most of subsaharan Africa) where people still breed like rats and cultivate a vicious cycle of poverty.
I agree but like i said it all boils down to choice
States like alabama and texas have high birth rates
Same in liverpool and Glasgow

[s]Lol, I know a man who had close to 20 kids , 2 of his kids are CEOs of major Banks in Nigeria.. ALL of them are STUPENDOUSLY rich and yet the man was poor.

The fate of the children is not tied to the father, BORN as much as you can... the one who sent them down would provide for them

It may sound counter intellectual but it's always been a fact , Poverty had nothing to do with children... It depends on the way they are raised

If war happens in Nigeria like you predicted , if my 7 kids die ... lol yours too won't die.

The koko is understanding your situation and see if you can provide them the basics of there needs ... then you are fine.

I don't support having children without control, but stopping child birth due to fear of the unknown seems illogical[/s].

See the minimum and maximum should be 4.

I can't give birth to 1 boy and 1 gal.

That's my take. I don't care what others think.

if your parent were so careful not to go beyond 2 kids you won't be here typing this. I'm sure you are not the 1st neither the 2nd.

we are 10 in numbers and we are doing fine.

Oga uninspired07, and you still want to have your "one or two kids"? For what?! To become soldiers or nurses in the future war of a failed Nigeria?!

If Nigeria really doesn't have a future & has failed, why don't you just completely understand refrain from bringing any innocent child to the failed State?!

That’s also an option. I can give birth to them abroad. But if I per adventure bear them here, I wouldn’t limit their ability to emigrate by having more kids to elongate my stay here.

Am I making sense?

How many children did your parents have? Were your parents "average"? Were all things bright and beautiful in Nigeria at the time ? Wasn't there stress and bills during that period? Wasn't it more difficult to raise kids then than during their parents' time?
It is more difficult for the average parents to have and raise children than the parents before...... worldwide. We can be fearful.... look for guarantees first before raising a family.....or we can go ahead like mankind always did regardless of the present circumstances. Parents always.... always find a way of raising their children. All they need is freedom and that we have. Below average parents..... the ones at the bottom of the economic ladder... homeless... living under bridge... have you ever read of their children starving to death?

Where there is a will there is a way

I'm curious here, mind answering my question? You said if the 1st baby is a male, what if the 1st baby is a female? What happens then? What if the 2nd baby is also a female, what happens then? All are children but I'm asking you because of your specific statement about the 1st child being a male. If you're ready to stop after two females, what about your wife? Will she agree to stop after having two female children even when your own statement is pregnant? You guys need to consider all possibilities before making a futile promise to each other because you don't get to choose between male and female child even at giving birth twice.

But I wonder when I see Nigerians that are not so wealthy giving birth to 4 - 5 kids in the midst of grinding economic depression and in a nation that has clearly failed. Is there a special formula to protect one or two children during the war as against having 4 or 5 kids?

Do you want skip this? You don't want to respond to it?

A war that will definitely will brought by people from your end of the country. We are ready for the war anyways—-the Americans & the Israelis are also—but within the short time left, I have to educate southerners against bringing too many kids to the unstable shithole.

The OP is coming from a good place in saying what he is saying, he says people should have a maximum of 2 children, thereafter practice family planning due to the economic challenges facing the country, in the same vein, I am asking him to consider adopting. He will be hitting two birds with one stone - firstly by helping 2 children already in need and 2ndly by not adding to the already over-populated country.
