Right, condom is cheap but African man say he wants to feel the skin.

zed7:
Screwing for leisure is no crime. A lot of rich people do so also. What we should be wondering is why they don't do family planning.
Family planning is cheap and even free in some clinics. It still baffles me how people don't understand that they don't have to have kids just because they are having sex.

You as a lady should know better. You have more to lose if you have unprotected sex.

The high birth rate amongst the lower income earners is not as annoying as them urging others to have more kids. You that should be advising others on why they shouldn't be breeding like rats, instead you will be encouraging to overpopulate the already overpopulated country. Misery really do love company. Sometimes I wonder what people want to do with so many kids, do they get some thrills watching them grow up and turn into nuisances in the society? Middle/upper class people shouldn't have more than 3 kids while lower class should stop at 2. How I wish the government can put this into law.
Mortality rate... I see old men get nervous just bc they have only one boy. They push this boy to early marriage bc they want the family name to be alive. Why subject a promising guy to early marriage bc were selfish during ur time. Why did nt the father have more boys so that no one would be under pressure. Technically, 2 boyz and 2 girls is just OK for 9ja or 4 boyz straight. Girls are becoming useless day by day.

Nigeria of today is the worst , poverty capital of the world , huge debt , low life expectancy rate etc . And yes our inability to manage our population is one of the manor issues . 12k on data and dstv is not a waste ,that is less than $30... In a country with a sane economy , and employment rate , those are the basic things , Nigeria isn't yet that country hence we need to slow down our population growth . China did a one child policy from 1970 to 2016 and it prevented 400 million births which they claimed was good for this economy , even now they practice a two child policy , Nigeria isn't even close to china yet the Chinese are trying to curb the population problem .

Check the availability of recourses and do a ratio to the number of people , every single thing in this country is stretched , too many students , few Universities with adequate facilities , no good health care , electricity , or even jobs
China problem is much deeper and goes way back in centuries. Social class/landownership existed before land reform which preceded 2 child policy.
It was the failure of not getting quick results of land redistribution that brought about child policy. Preceding the policy, Millions of innocent people were killed for their lands by their neighbours .It was encouraged and supported by the state to enable land redistribution. Is that what you want for Nigeria?

Nigeria problem is not population but corruption and lack of management. If the population is properly harnessed it would propel us to a great nation.
Another communist nation like China is Cuba, with decades of economic blockade did not adopt any population control policy or massacred their citizens for their lands. They have developed one of the best health care system, free qualitative education from elementary to university level etc.

If we live within our means $30 dollars is still a tidy sum by Nigeria,China or cuba standard.

You are planning life and you forget anything, anytime can happen under the will of the one who created life

Do you remember the woman whose Children were lost in the Sosoliso air clash in 2003 (I guess).
She was weeping so badly that she said if there was any way she could have babies again.
Imagine a woman with three kids in one the best schools in Abuja oh.

This is why I don't personally give a damn about whether economy is bad or good.
Have as much children you and be responsible for them.
And we forget that not everyone will be a graduate. Some will be good drivers, good businessmen and some will be good farmers.
And you don't know which will benefit you or forsake you.
Just be a good,caring father that's all

People should stop basing every success in life on education.
Dangote and Adenuga are not the most schooled yet they are making waves.
Even the late Alhaji Inu Umoru from Edo state the Co owner of Setraco construction company was not a graduate.

Life is so complex for one to see it from one lenses.

I know of many people who struggled initially with many children, but he was responsible and made sure they all did something with their lives and today this parents are being inundated with allsoet of gift everytime to the extent they now give out these goodies.
Thank you. Another sensible post

It's a win-win for you. kiss

Dumb question. In Regional Planning, it is said that OVERPOPULATION IS NOT THE CAUSE OF POVERTY, BUT POVERTY IS THE CAUSE OF OVERPOPULATION. The poorer Nigerians will continue to record higher birth rates because since they are not gainfully engaged, COITAL FREQUENCY WILL INCREASE.

I believe you will have only boys because you have mastered the art of selecting which sperm will result in pregnancy.
Your body doesn't produce the x-chromosome sperm. Only the Y chromosome.
Any girl child you get is not yours.
Only the boys belong to you.

Giving birth to many kids means one or two of them might become wealthy by chance. This is what the Nigerian system has reduced the parents to. Don't blame the parents.

Uninspired don't you think this is too sensitive a topic. We are talking about bringing children to life. Be optimistic man, agreed Nigeria is tough but it could change to the better.
Now tell me what happens after giving birth to tha maximum two children you are advocating. Should the man go tie up his penis? Or are you also advocating for family planning. Look my brother I think we should allow natural process prevail. Family planning or whatever means to negate conception in my view may not be Biblical.
Simply my view.
A biblical view doesn't put food on the table.

AND WHO THE HELL ARE YOU TO DICTATE TO MATURED ADULTS HOW MANY KIDS THEY SHOULD HAVE? EVERYBODY IS NOT ON THE SAME LEVEL WITH YOU. IT'S YOUR PROBLEM IF YOU ARE POOR AND CANNOT TAKE CARE OF YOUR FAMILY.
uninspired07:
Why can’t you stop at 2? Nigeria has changed radically from the time of our parents?

How do you know that I am not among the 1st two children of my parents?

Nigeria is just too failed a country to burden with overpopulation. I observe that people who give birth to many Children are always illiterate & stark poor. And they are not afraid of poverty do they hug it with gusto by having many children they can’t cater for.

NB: 10 Childern? That’s fantastic. I am sure your pops was doing fine back in the days to have been able to shoulder the responsibility.

I don't see any sense here. So because life is uncertain you shouldn't plan. We should all squander our resources because we can die tomorrow.

Planning is what every sensible adult should do. It doesn't matter if life changes our plans or not. You can have 20 children and they'll all die same day through an accident.
The crux of this discussion is ability to give the best to the kids you have. Anyway, some of the people talking grew up in the ghetto so they wouldn't understand the concept of giving kids a good life. You can't give what you don't have.

That's the excuse women give. Work with your healthcare practitioner to find one without side effects.
If you are married, you should know that condom as a means of family planning is unreliable. A married couple can choose to have sex anywhere and anytime without prior planning.
You could get carried away in the kitchen and not have time to go to the bedroom to get condoms.

Op leave the wonder for God. I've seen couples who had twin boys as their first. Thinking they shud try for a girl again and they have another set of twin boys. That's 4 children o.
Or... First child is a girl and the next is a twin boy and girl. It's sometimes beyond people's planning. You ask for one and God gives you two.
You that you're talking, if your plan na just 2 children... And ur first issue na twins nko? Trust me... You'd still want to try again... Saying 3 is not a bad idea. And whoooa... You have another twin.
Koko be say make God provide for you to take care of them. Afterall they say he doesn't give one challenges one can't surpass.

I know this my thread might get some people angry but it’s a subject that surprises me whenever I think of it. How do normal Nigerians who are educated have more than 2 children in a country like Nigeria with all the poverty & hopelessness? I am still single but I have it in mind to lay a ground rule that whichever woman I marry must agree to family planing methods after the birth of the 1st child whether male or female. And if the 1st baby is male, we can as well wait for another 5 years before having a baby of either sex as the last.

But I wonder when I see Nigerians that are not so wealthy giving birth to 4 - 5 kids in the midst of grinding economic depression and in a nation that has clearly failed. Don’t these Nigerians know that the country can descend into war anytime due to the instability that is so palpable? I get afraid when I see couples who have 4 children in this day & age so I always wonder how they are coping with the stress & the bills. I also wonder why they are not afraid of Nigeria.
The excuse everyone always give is that Nigeria is a failed state.
See I know people that have more than 4 kids and are doing well and I know those that have just one and are still complaining that what they have isn't enough.
My question now is
Why are there rich people in poor countries and poor people in rich countries.

One of my cousins has 7 boys because they are looking for a female kid, my neighbor has 5 boys 1 girl, the woman is pregnant again. Reality is that if a male or female kid is absent some families will continue procreating. It's not only when boys are absent although Igbos make this an exception but what I've noticed is that most people want at least one of either gender. O boy just look around your community to confirm this

Deicide:
I think the op is forgetting something that the system is not made for the poor, people don't give birth to more children because they can, they do so because of security reasons. if you check most third world country, poor people mostly give birth to more children at least if one dies you wouldn't worry much, rich people have the money for security so they hardly give birth to more children, you could see this fact in first world country where the system works well, despite being rich would hardly give birth to more than three. Logically @Op your point might make sense Logically but economically it doesn't, if the system works for the poor, they wouldn't have to worry about security thereby giving birth to fewer children.
Exactly. This is the first lesson of human geography.

People give birth to excess children to have more employees for their farm and as security against the future.

If they had less to worry about (disease, famine, insecurity) the rate of childbirth would naturally decrease. This is the difference between the first and third worlds
