It took a while but she was able to open up to let me know how her family vehemently told her they dont want to see her with someone like me. They also threatened to disown her if she insisted on being with me.

Currently, we decided to stop seeing each other for the sake of peace to reign in her family. We do keep communication on a 100. We both love each other genuinely and we do not want us to split just like that.

What do we do?

Nothing can be done...you can't beat them. The ball is in the court of your girl. Only your bae can turn things around now..... nobody else.

for reason you hide your identity prove something is wrong, you should mention your tribe. may be a disable from north hoping to get married from girl from south or south East whether old south East or new south East, how do you think is possible. let me make is clear if anyone want to marry out side his/her tribe that person need to have what men in her domain don't have. so I advise you to look for woman among your people, your people know your story even before you know who you are and is easy for family from your tribe and home town or your village to convince their daughter to marry you. I don't advice to attract sympathy or blame but pure truth. look for a woman among your people and you will see someone that love you. stop going to another tribe.

People mentioning me cos I spoke my mind... I ain't a hypocrite,, not everything should be brought to Nairaland.. most times you have to be a man and face your problem headlong.... Most people quoting me wont let their family or friends marry a disabled (I can bet on this).. but they would be hypocritical to curry favour or seem sensitive to OP plight..

All this relationship/marriage/dating issues should end today.. nobody should bring their relationship madness from tomorrow

Bros, my simple advice is that if your girlfriend truly loves you, she would put her feet down and tell her family who she wants. Disability is not an issue the days. Even, the governor of the State of Texas in USA is on wheelchair. If she cannot do that, then you keep searching. Never you feel dejected. Cheer up. Better days ahead.

Sis, read well, the guy is not paralyzed. He just doesn't walk normal. He walks by himself. To me the guy should just leave the girl because, his issue is nothing serious as far as I am concerned. My neighborh is like him. His wife is very beautiful and they have 3 beautiful kids. His own situation is not as worse as that of Yinka Ayefele or Cobhams that is blind yet both of them are married to beautiful damsels.

Maybe not available in Nigeria, I’ve never looked into it, but consider getting a matchmaker. Either an individual or company that specializes in hitching people in your situation.

One thing people fail to believe about handicapping conditions is that nobody is safe as long as we are alive.
Spinal meningitis is the main cause of after birth deafness and it is caused by over exposure to Sun which 80% of Nigerians are guilty of.

Gani's first son and Ayefele had accidents which confined them to wheel chairs. Bad injections have rendered a lot paralysed on one or both legs.

I had a rich Church member who doesn't allow his housemaid to sit on a same row with his family right inside the Church. He will shout at the top of his voice that she should go to the back. He had an accident, he is blind now, but funny enough, he is still sending the maid to the back seat.
