You better cut your coat according to your size, how will you be feeling in the house married to a Post graduate holder, inferiority complex will hurt you in the relationship. Bro look for your mate.

I graduated from Osun State Polytechnic, Iree.
She also graduated from Babcock University.

We both met in 2015 during our NYSC at River State. We serve in the same PPA. She is good, lovely and caring. And to crown it all she is beautiful. I mean so beautiful.

It all started with friendship which later led to relationship. We share so many things together during our time in River State as per what the future holds.

After our NYSC, we both went back to our various base. She is based in Lagos while I reside in Osun. Immediate I finished my NYSC, I got a job with a private organisation as a factory supervisor. But she went further for her Masters in Covenant University, Otta. Despite the distance we still communicate from time to time and at times I do find time to check on her in Otta, while she also do check on me in Osogbo.

After her M.sc, her dad got her a job with a big company in Lagos.

Last year December she came to Osogbo as usual to check on me but fortunately she met my parents and my siblings at my place. They all love and accept her. When she was leaving the next day she told me that her parents told her that they want to meet her fiancé.

12th January, 2020 I travelled down to Lagos to meet her parents. When getting there I met her parents with her only sister. Her dad ask of my parents, state, my qualification and what I do for a living. I told him and immediately he stood up and told me he will never allow his daughter to marry an HND holder.

He said he can't send his daughter to a university & end up marry an HND holder. Never!!! Though my gal is not in support of that, even ever since that time till now she's not her self in that house.
I truly love her and I know she truly love me too. But her parents is the major concern.
Should I call it quit?

Please your advise is needed, what should I do?

If you have the money and time, look for a university that can convert your HND to Degree certificate for you. Crescent Uni in Abeokuta is doing this well because I met someone who did same during my Masters class and its just 2 years program, or better still go apply for MBA or Professional Masters.

But let's be factual. You're not in the same Financial and Social Class with her. Talk to your lady and promise her you'll further your education, even if her father sees your seriousness by doing what I stated above ( furthering your education) and his daughter unconditional love, he might support you and connect you also.

Same thing happened to someone I know and the father in-law later supported the guy when the guy proved serious, got him a better job and later relocated them to Canada.

Her father probably attend polytechnic too and subjected to those ridicule at work place, especially private organisations and vowed never to allow such happen to his children. My dad experienced it also, and this pushed him for PGD and MSc respectively, he vowed never to allow any of his children attend poly and non of us did and I really appreciates the decision he made.

So it's your choice. If you can fight for it. God will help you.

You are reaching Poster.
Find a girl in Oshogbo pls.

Any man that wants his Babcock daughter to marry HND should comment nonsense.

Akin Alabi Nairabet went to Poly then Harvard. He pulled himself up but Poster remains in Oshogbo ....leave woman first and hustle that is my advise.
Brush yourself up if you want her ...... or you make Risi alagbo omo.

Nikka said my girl..... ta lo fi omo fun eh

BU to Poly ..... it is far!
I don't even think the poly is the problem.

If the guy has used that his certificate to secure a management job at Deloitte or even in govt, the father would accept him.

He has done nothing worthwhile with his certificate.

Lol... university fire and wound him there . It’s not by university but by who u knw in the society. This days those with HND easily get work to BSC holder . That’s the mentality of the sectors here in Nigeria. If not for anything, education is useless in this country . Getting a job they will even ask if u are below 20 cry do they expect I start working for experience at age 10? Arrant nonsense. My dear don’t let that stress or bother u, keep calm and who will love even ur primary or secondary cert will come talk more of HND . Nonsense and ingredients. In this 21th century people are still lagging behind? undecided undecided if he continues wit his behavior let him be . Call it off and let’s see who gets old at home .

No they are not.

If I spend millions and millions educating my daughter up to masters level in an elite environment, she better not come home with less.
She missed all the rich people at school, at work and only to choose an upcomer.

A waste of money.

I should have just sent her to Osun state university and save my money.

Poly Ede you mean

It is painful.... Nikka said I love her..... before? Fresh girl

All what you wrote about the OP is total rubbish.. Assuming after NYSC he hits a job with an IOC with his HND I’m sure the girl’s father won’t make that statement. It’s just unfortunate that OP hasn’t attained financial freedom yet...

Her father didn't reject you because of your certificate but he rejected you because you can't match his daughter financialy. my advice for you is to go and hustle and make enough money.i have a friend who is a chartered accountant and he is currently working under an SSCE holder who is a billionaire in real estate in Nigeria. Dangote is not a prof or PhD holder and he is employing PhD holders as a truck driver. Bubu with NEPA bill cert is controlling a prof of law like a boy.some parents will rather allow their daughter to marry yahoo yahoo boys, armed robbers than to marry an hustler

Trust me he is not exactly offended that ure a HND holder. The Major problem is were u work and what ure currently doing. He feels his daughter is ahead of u academically and money wise bt that shud not be the only criteria to judge a Man.

There are many HND holders working in shell and chevron. Big boys. Tell me if u were working with Chevron he will open his mouth and say I can't allow my daughter marry a HND holder? Hell NO!!!!!

While introducing urself if u were a sharp guy u would have sensed his type of person and expectation and told him ur future prospects. He might have calm down to say ok he has sm Ambition I will wait and see.

The question here op is do u have Ambition to take on his daughter? U sounded very low maybe its ur kind of person. That is the solution. Do u masters or seek a better job then come back and talk to him and see if he won't say yes. Lol

@OP: Let go of that girl. The best is always yet to come, the beautiful ones are yet unborn. You will be blessed with a better person.

It's obvious the family's acceptance is conditional and even if you go for a PGD and Masters, the feeling and hurt will never go away.

Develop yourself and move on, life is too short to be trying to please or prove a point to anyone.

The best form of revenge is success, go and be successful, so much that they'd regret they let you go and didn't allow their daughter stay with you.

Wish you all the best bro.

Guy I also found myself in thesame situation when i met my wife. We fell in love and was planning for the future. But her father was a proff in the university and she is a BSc holder. As usual her father rejected me on the fact that am a HND holder. But my wife then insisted that i must be me and she moved out of the fathers house and move into mine and told the family that when they are ready they know where to find her. The father had no choice that to give his blessing. But one good thing then was that everyone in her house was in support except the father and also i had a very solid job paying in 7 figures. My dear after that experience i vowed to equal the father in academic level. Today i have 2 Masters. About starting PhD. And today the father doesn't joke with me.
So my dear....it all depends on 2 things. Ur girl and the weight of your bank account.

[quote author=meetme01 post=89090015]Op, to be sincere, if you don't upgrade before you get married to that lady if eventually things is sorted. You would have issues in your home.

See, it's not a curse. Married folks can attest to this.

Her standard is much higher academically, financially etc than yours. You have been seen as a gold digger. She would want to reside in Lagos due to her job. Not mainland Lagos but on the island. Can you afford accommodation in Lekki or or VI.? She would have much say in the home because her income is much higher and her parents would be supportive. If you're not careful, your home would be dictated by her parents. Before you know, you would turn to their houseboy. At the long run, a hit or foul language on the lady will end the marriage.

Please, yoruba would say, ile ola niyonu. Another says, iyawo burku se fe, ano buruku o se ni (You can mange a bad wife but the in-law should not be harboured).

If you like yourself, make her your best friend and remain best of friends. She would love it that way and any request for support or assistance, she would be glad.

Marriage is not only about love o. [/quote

U have spoken well, It's not easy to secure a job with Diploma whether Higher or Ordinary. I'm in the same boat with op, we are now separated

The issue is not the certificate but the father of the lady was frustrated because nothing to build faith on . The lady has a better job with masters while you a factory supervisor in osun state and you want the man to open hands to welcome you?

My Advise

Put on hold your marriage,

Go for PGD and Masters of your level

Work harder and

After the 3 years , if you still love the lady , go back to the man . He will not only welcome you but will kill goat to welcome you .

Instead of looking for sympathy that is not there, get down to work and prove the man wrong also make him apologise through your achievement

Guy it's about the family background not necessarily money or HND. It seems your parents are not well off and in today's society the rich only want to marry the rich. Rich in this context refers to parents status in society.
