PerfectlyPerfect:

Government doesn't subsidize the training of doctors. I don't know where you got that from. Their tuition fees are one of the highest in the Nigerian educational system. The reason why Nigerian doctors are favored abroad is because they still have to write and pass stringent exams despite our terrible academic system and so when they come abroad they tend to do great. There was once a news here on nairaland about a doctor who used slippers to make a neck brace. Only a Nigerian doctor can improvise with such ingenuity.
haaa....my sister paid Les than 80k cumulatively for 6years of medical study in federal university.thatsvkess than 250 dollars compared to what Americans and Europeans pay

LITERALLY EVERYONE.

SOME EVEN PREFER TO DROWN IN THE MEDDITARANIAN SEA, OR DIE IN SAHARA DESERT THAN STAY IN NIGERIA.

people like you always think you know. do you know how much medical education is in the Western world?

you pay 50k dollars a year for the same medical education for 4 to 5 years. that's is around 20 million naira every year!
in Nigeria, you medical fees is not more than 3 million NAIRA a year in private institutions which are even expensive.

u said it all ..my sister paid about 14k annually studying medicine in federal university

Exodus to where?
There is a global recession, countries are trying to JumpStart their local economies, citizens get first priority not runaway incompetent Nigeria n doctors.

FG might decide to postpone international air travel indefinitely.
Re: Doctors’ Exodus Looms As International Flights Resume This Week by frog12: 10:10am On Aug 26, 2020
it is because of GREED. DO YOU know why a MAN decides leave his WIFE and marry another instead of looking for solution to the problem?
It is EASY to marry another. but for DOCTORS, to say it is EASY TO LEAVE to another country, then their EDUCATION IS poor. they are NOT USING THEIR BRAINS and education to solve the PROBLEM IN THEIR OCCUPATION.

I will never EMPLOY THOSE DOCTORS. they are what we call THROWAWAYS! put them in the frontline of the WAR. if they die, who CARES!

tufiakwa!

you know CHINESE politicians most likely make more than their DOCTORS.

THE PROBLEM with nigeria is EVERYONE wants to be KING.

And that's why Chinese doctors, like Nigerian doctors move in droves to where they're better appreciated.

When my younger bros graduates from the university. I will pay for every single exam and anything required for him to leave this hell hole, as a doctor he needs to go where he will be valued. In that regard am ready to help him 100%
don't forget how our government subsidies education compared to what American citizens pay for same education.

'Worth' for all practical purposes is determined by what your training and skill set will attract in other countries.

Perhaps you can ask also:

"How much are primary/secondary school teachers worth?" Is it the 30k-50k or so they are being paid? By the way many of them hold a bachelors degree.
"How much are university teachers worth?" Is it the 120k or so that PhD holders are being paid? By the way you get PhD after MSc which you get after first degrees including MBBS.
"How much are our lawyers worth?" Is it the 30k-50k many of them are being paid? By the way after a 5-year bachelors degree, they still have to undergo law school training which on the average costs betweek 300k to 500k.

Needless to say, the list is endless, and all these categories of people are paid infinitely much more than anything Nigeria is offering them.

People think this is a joke It's a very serious issue. My wife was among the 58 doctors who were refused travel last month, but she finally travelled 2 weeks ago to London by flight with some others provided by their employer. I'm now left with my 2 children hoping to join her soon. I feel bad for this country because what will now happen to the common man out there if all the qualified doctors leave!!
but ur wide studied medicine in naija on a platter of gold....do u even know how much British citizens pay to study medicine?
