You can work but note that you will be allocated an emergency tax code. This can mean paying a high amount of tax you shouldn't be paying and such can't be claimed back when you receive your NI

Hello my people, please, I just got offer for master in 2 UK universities, one in England and the other in Scotland. My issue is that I have just been diagonised to have High blood pressure and currently being placed on drug. Though is like border line hypertension and have started doing all possible to ensure I manage the situation and if possible be off the drug before the resumption time in January, 2021 but I have been warned that I will still have to be taking the drug even if I'm able to put the BP under control. I understand NHS payment is for health management but I'm confused if the payment will cover prescription or not since I will still have to be taking this drug even in the UK. Also, I read somewhere that I don't need to pay for prescription in Scotland while it is mandatory in England. I don't know how far this is true or not. Please, I need your advise as regard this. Thank you.

In England it would be a flat fee of £9.15 per prescription that cover the cost of drugs and everything ... some people can request / beg the doctor to do 3 months at once so u pay 9.15 every 3 month instead of monthly if they issue you your drugs per month

hi, what course did the person study? And do you know if he had HCPC? I don't have the money for HCPC, hence why I am asking. If I get a job and Cos however, I can easily borrow visa and ticket fees. So please reply. I sent you an email, can you reply please or reply here, anyone is good

Yes, prescription medicine is free in Scotland, you may want to travel with meds to last you for at least a month after you arrive so you don't add that to your settling down worrying , just get a prescription or letter from you doctor in Nigeria to back it up. Best of luck !

Hi everyone, I have been following this thread silently for about a year, I must say you are doing a great job here as I have learnt so much from so many people.

I got two band 5 job offers, one in August, COS released and it's for a job in Carlisle, North Cumbria (England). The other offer is in Bedford, just got the offer yesterday and the package is similar.

I have a family of 4 and very soon after myresumption there, hubby (a chattered accountant here in Naija) will also come over to search for job.

Now the question is; which will you go for if you were in my shoes and what are your reason. Kindly help me with adequate information that will help me make an informed choice.

For me, I will advise you to go for the one that has sent u CoS already. Remember CoS expires after 3 months. The second, u can't ascertain when dy will give u CoS, dey fit tell u story dat touch. No try amm move out with the first job.

Remember, u can't have two CoS from different employer at d same time. B4 d second job will give u CoS, the first employer will need to withdraw/cancel their live CoS.

Cumbria is in north of England. North of England is cheap base on cost of living. If u move into UK and leta u do not like the area u can relocate. Get another job after a year or two.

Concerning ur hubby, ur hubby can get a job in any county that he likes. He can work full time. He might decide to be visiting u every weekend.

The choice is yours...


But go with the one u have deir CoS already.

It looks like almost everything is free in Scotland even student university fees but who pays for it? England ..

Please between Aberdeen and Teeside Middlesbrough which is better for a family to move to in terms of easily getting jobs, affordable accommodation, not too expensive cost of living for a young family and also very safe.

Dont know of now but when my brother Schooled in Aberdeen it was an expensive city even rent almost reach London self. But this was before the oil crash so dont know if now

Teesside cost of living would definitely be much cheaper . In terms of other things I dont know. I only know about accommodation cost

I don't know what the situation is now but before the pandemic it can take as long as 6months

You should be able to get your BRP within days max..a week, it doesn't take long.

If you are like me that does a bit of locum work on the side, and your tax bill to HMRC is due in January 2021, it seems today's statement by Rishi Sunak has pushed the payment to 2022. I would suggest you should contact your accountants to verify, my accountant is still waiting for it to be uploaded officially on gov.uk. The tax deferall also applies to those who are fulltime self employed.

This is like saying I need accommodation in the West of Nigeria ...... west could be Lagos, ogun, oyo.

You would have to specify exact city.. ie Aberdeen, Glasgow etc
