Small oil rich Warri,Delta state should look like one of these cities. Nigerian leaders are just evil.

You dey go far.

Imagine Bayelsa State with 9 local government areas cannot pay salaries.

It is the second-smallest state in Nigeria after Lagos.

Meanwhile, they get huge allocations from the federal government as an oil-producing state

What exactly is d culture u are referring?

U said "if govt build something like that, wouldnt you people ruin it fast with una rough nature....??

Kindly tell us how especially since u say there are streets like that in Nigeria. Name d streets and tell us how d road users have destroyed d Streets
Culture cos imo Nigerians don't have a knack for beauty and maintenance. Those streets definitely aren't new so would have gone years of redesigning and maintenance. Also did we as a country ever care of urban design and planning and I'm talking about not just demolishing property in the name of infringement undecided

So when you get into politics would you be willing to charge heavy taxes to pay for the good roads you want?

Our budget for thos year is 26 billion dollars. South africa spent 23 billion dollars on education alone last year.

London's budget is 2 billion dollars this year.Lagos budget is 3 milllion dollars. ( for the state not the town) ( figures not correct. Error regretted )

Our oil revenue is not enough to feed everyone for a month self.

How do you raise the money.?
how do you tax people when there are jobless

True. 10 years and people are yet to come to terms with Nigeria's 'it is what it is' syndrome and think there's magic wand policy somewhere.
Exactly....

Even ordinary Windhoek in Namibia, Has a beautiful streets with well paved roads and sidewalks, and to imagine Nigeria is 10 times richer than Namibia oo

We're finished in this country

Who told you we are 10 times richer? Is it because our hopelessly dumb leaders say so? Are you calculating wealth per head or just total amount irrespective of how many mouths you have? See hear it very well Nigeria is a hopelessly poor country even in Africa and we are nowhere close to the first 5 richest.

Why are you then expecting good roads in a country without the kind of money to build good roads, since most people are jobless to pay tax?

Eg streets designed for right hand drive we just also design and build in nigeria abi
why has the post become useless?

Why did you imply op is battling inferiority complex, when in reality he's clamouring for accountability and upgraded standard of living.

So what.do you do when the loot is finished and you have to raise money for things like ongoing maintenance of the roads? Or upgrading the road? Or expanding the road.?

Note that i fully agree that billions have been looted and they need recovering. So we agree on that point

But when we have finished using the looted money to build infrastructure, how do we pay for its maintenance, future upgrading, and so on?

That's where taxes and taxes come in as well as polices like deregulation which could attract jobs.

The Soviet union worked till they finished using the siezed loot of the bourgeoisie. Then thats where issues started.
There are "PPP" AND "BOT" models employed in infractural developement

Who is responsible for maintaining roads anywhere in d world? Is it d people using d road or d govt? Who is responsible for urban design & planning? Is it d citizens or d govt?

It is not all about having money being rich. It is about mentality. Their reasoning.

Bad leaders and bad followers.

In as much as our leaders are very corrupt, we have been made to examine and judge the situation of our country one-sidedly.
Corruption is a two way thing. If Nigerians leaders are corrupt then UK leaders(Western leaders) are also corrupt for continuing to collect loots decades after decades from the so called "third world" countries of people living below poverty line.
All these buildings and roads are built and maintained from exploiting the resources across Africa, if not how did these countries look like before interactions with Africans and the colonisation of Africa?
Nigerian leaders don't act indepently if they do why do the so called advanced and civilised people that preach human right, good governance, NGO, sustainable development continue to open their doors to the corrupt leaders from the "underdeveloped" country? Won't that seem contrary to what they preach?

Until we realize that our undevelopment is not only due to bad leadership and that we need to find it root cause and profer indigenous solutions, we will keep comparing.
This is self deceit and playing the victim. Europe was far ahead of subsaharan Africa, especially in science, technology and architecture before colonialism. Most of us didn't even have a writing system, except maybe Ethiopia and the Arabs.

In the next 20 years u will still be shouting PDP, u cant go out of ur past. This country did not start from 1999 and ends in 2015, the more we start looking at issues holistically rather than using political leaning the better for us all. This is same mentality that the country has been looted dry, it was PDP turn now it's APC turn.... Very pathetic

what is preventing Nigeria from rising now? Do our leaders don't like better things? Just look at the neat tidy well constructed roads! What is wrong in having all roads in Nigeria look so tidy like this?
Nawa!

It all begins not with leaders but with us.

Don't expect your leader to send cleaners to remove trash from the streets. Instead, don't litter.
Don't expect your leader to send masons to fix your building, fix it yourself.
Don't expect your leader not to steal big. Start with yourself by not stealing small.
Don't complain about bribed politicians if you accept bunch of naira to keep blind eye.

it all starts with us, not with politicians. Once politicians learn they can't get away with their bu11$hit, they will respect themselves.

So how do we icrease purchasing power in nigeria?
I know government gives everyone a job and dashes people money, with low oil prices

The first thing is to completely change the current system becus it makes the component federations weak and lazy.. The current system makes the central govt extremely rich and extremely far from the real people who matters..

A UK six nation based system or the American true federalism will work better...

This way, u can hand over real governance powers to the federating states and they can have control over how they manage their own running cost, electricity, tax, security, etc. This way, the regions/states become more viable, compete better and source for better ways to generate income.. A business friendly society will attract men and women who already have the money to come in and invest, these people pay tax, pay local workers better, these local workers who are better paid will now have better purchase power, they will increase their purchase which will generate more fund for the govt!
This way, the various regions/states can do away with quota system and embrace merit driven society, this will surely help produce more vibrant minds to run the affairs of their regions/states.
As it stands, states/ regions dont have control over the real factors that determine the success of a society. This is bloody for a large country like Nigeria.

If we are not ready to do this, we cant make progress. We have been on this our system for decades. It cant work, it will never work. I just pray we will not get sense when it is already too late.

The current system is too central for progress..
