We don't have these kind of streets in nigeria because we are not ready to pay the kind of taxes that would fund and maintain those kind of streets.

In the UK, if you are living in the city, you pay council tax which ranges from 60000 to 100000 naira monthly depending on the city. That money goes into making the cities look nice

That's why uk cities have great streets.

If we charged that kind of tax in Nigeria, Nigerians would scream.

So we pay scanty taxes and get scanty and bad roads

The bad roads we have in Nigeria are what we can afford. The sad thing is that looting still happens on top
You pay council tax of betw 60 to 100k in UK relative to your income. How much is advarage wage in the UK compared to Nigeria? Who told you we do not pay council tax in naija. I pay 20-30k. I pay 60k (also under the council) to psp yearly for refuse collection etc. Land use charges nko. That one is another matter.
Bottomline we pay taxes to local government in Nigeria. What the taxes are used for is what we should ask. The councils generate billions from us.

It’s all about development, if this was a Nigerian street; unless the development is even across the country, people will still sell things on the street

You must be a troll on Nairaland. You think in your mind that the roads in London or in Copenhagen will be as shitty as that of Naija.

Greatest contribution.

Nigerians want better things and compare us with other countries, but they will never compare how much tax we pay, compared to other countries.

Taxation remains the major source of revenue for developed countries.
Bullshit. You cant manage the wealth you get from oil you believe its when you tax people to death that you will be able to manage money. SMH

The answer is very simple!...

Bunch of self serving thieves and sadistic Tyrants rendered this POTENTIALLY LOADED country to a shithole!

For the records, over 600 BILLION DOLLARS has been LOOTED from Nigeria since independence!

Only a RED REVOLT can salvage the the doomed contraption.

Ours is a society devoid of organisation. If you replicate this here, it wont take a month before a 20/30/40ft container truck cruise through the lanes bringing down the pillars of those houses or malls nearing the roads thereby sending multitude to their untimely death.

U can't charge such tax with less than 100 dollars minimum wage.

Increase the purchasing power ur country citizens and increase their tax.

These countries, after tax, citizens still have enough to live a higher middle class life.

So, no be tax matter. The little citizens are paying here from their poor minimum wage, what has the govt done with it?

Most of u don't know that the major problem with Nigeria is her political structure. This system can't work even in gbe next 50 years. It will only keep getting worse.

Yes Eko Atlantic, I have been there once, And I was amazed at how beautifully made it was, That's the only place I will give a 5stars rating in Nigeria!!

But then again I found out it is owned by a man from Lebanon, No wonder it's so different

If it was made by a black person, It will just be like another Banana Island
Owned by Lebanese Chaugory who helped Abacha launder billions of dollars and Tinubu's business partner.

To have environments like this, we need;

(1) Town planners and Environment designers that are exceptional.

(2) A budget to fund the projects.

(3) Get rid of all street traders and ensure they never get close.

(4) covered drains with ample sidewalks that have greenery, seating, waste disposal facilities.

(5) Electric lines need to be buried.

(6) Beautiful architectural buildings. Rugged buildings should be acquired by fiat, torn down and rebuilt.

(7) Sensible citizens that will appreciate the environment and not throw litter in the streets.

If Government upgrade people's lives and reduce poverty, people will definitely be able to pay that Taxes,

But with high unemployment rate, Increase in Poverty, Tell me how will people be able to afford that?

In less than 20years, The Government of china moved 830million people from extreme poverty to middle-class, 830million people that's 5 times the population of Nigeria!!

If Government can do that in Nigeria too, why won't people pay those taxes you mentioned??

And again they have to stop chronic deceit and lies.. what is the meaning of "snake swallowed millions" and all other ridiculous nonsense we have been feed with. I would definitely not pay my tax in such circumstances.

Liar!

There is no where in Nigeria that people pay 30k per month as council tax.

And by the way tax is charged as a percentage of your income,so the low level of income is not an excuse for not paying tax.

The higher your income, the higher the absolute value of tax paid.

The guy paying 30k council tax might be paying lower or higher than others, depending on income.

Because Nigeria is a country built for segregation. The politicians will rather invest in keeping their own compounds clean and modern than investing in building a modern street. They will rather swim in water just to get to their house than fixing the streets.
