Soon some new guys may be brainwashed or "misconstrue" his teachings and do something bad.

ok, so you know. for all those peeps wondering how women could beat their husbands anyhow in europe/america, here's your answer. . . once the woman calls the police. . . you are going to be locked up. THE POLICE IS NOT COMING TO ASK "WHAT HAPPENED", THEY ARE COMING TO LOCK YOU UP ASAP. once the police locks you up, they take a statement from the woman. at that point, if she says you hit her, it's no longer she vs you, it is now you vs the state , in otherwords, she cant even stop the case, so even if the man is innocent, he will spend at least one night in police custody, call a lawyer(costs some big money)and the court will give a restraining order keeping you away from her and perhaps your home while you continue to pay the bills. then if you no get friends, you'll spend more money in a hotel room pending the removal of the restraining order.

at this pointshe cant just tell the courts she has forgiven you, that the case should be withdrawn. NO! , she has made a statement, and he is accused of domestic violence which is against the state. it's the state vs the man. if she withdraws the statement, the state will prosecute her for perjury . . .ebelebe . .

the best that you can hope for is that the prosecutor will not find enough evidence to jail the man finally, then the man will be free to return home. by then check how much money the dude go don spend, the stress, then your boss at work will start considering replacing you . . etc etc etc . . .

and this is irrespective of whether the man hit her or not . . it's just a matter of she picking up the phone and calling police.

so i ask you gentlemen of nairaland . . .will you rather go through all this or would you quietly endure the shame and hope for the best? especially if youre just a beginer earning little pay, some of which you need to send home to mama.

i know some nigerian women who suddenly changed to tigers when they got to the US and saw how the law is lopsided in their favour. i know one who even cheated on her igbo husband and called the police for the man. at the end she filed for divorce and took away their only child as well as half of the man's money. the man brough him to america o. and yes it's an igbo woman too. it happened in texas. it was so funny, bc she has been beating this guy for years, the guy kept enduring it until he pushed her one day. she called police. police took him away while she used the opportunity to cheat some more with her boyfriend , the poor dude borrowed money to hire a solid lawyer, and when prosecution was unable to prove that he beat his wife (bc he didnt anyway) she filed for divorce, she is living in texas now in the man's house. but trust igbo man, he sold the initial house and bought a smaller house in some not so good part of houston and also cut his work hrs so that he earns smaller pay and the woman cant get a good job and she spends a lot and so is kinda haggard now while the man is picking up gradually but doesnt want to work too hard since whatever maney he makes will be split for the woman.

I'm against unnecessary laws by an unpopular National Assembly trying to gain cheap popularity. I guess they succeeded. That's okay. But there's something fundamentally wrong with a law that proposes to lock up people who didnt hurt anyone and majority are in favourite of it. Even clapping. But it's democracy. It's a game of numbers. I hope it ends here with this gay law. I'm scared of a parliament that can easily make laws obstructing the rights of minority with majority clapping.

I must state clearly that I don't think this is a moral argument. Homosexuality can definitely be wrong and evil but this depends on what you believe and you are free to believe this because the law supports you in your freedoms and liberties.

The irony is that you have somehow decided this freedom and liberty can only be extended to you and people who think like you. That is the crux of the matter.

You don't have to like gay people or accept them personally. You can disown your child if he is gay or excommunicate your friends. That is your right. But as a matter of law it is dangerous for a nation to trample on the rights of others simply to please the majority. Please tell me you understand and appreciate this distinction.

If this is about Jesus coming to take his children then you better start drafting legislature to ban Islam, Guru Maraji and the host of other christian sects that don't agree with your pastor. Nigeria is not a religious state.
