omo_to_dun: I read the article. Professor William A. Jacobson is a fairly well-known conservative blogger, so I am not surprised by his point of view. Instead of reading other people's point of view, let us judge from the video. Why were the Bank Regulators hesitant to answer? Why is that most Americans support Warren but Wall Street claims that the questions were unfair and caught them by surprise? The Mortgage Scandal almost took down the our economy with illegal practices, and the American public had to pay for it. The bankers who proliferated the scam should be held to the same standard as any other person who breaks the law. Criminal Prosecution and Restitution if Guilty.

Professor Jacobson asked, "To what purpose? To destabilize the banking system by causing doubts as to whether the financial institution at issue would survive a trial?" This is what you call TOO BIG TOO FAIL. If a lesser corporation had engaged in the same practices as Wall Street, there would have been dire consequences. Of course, the Wall Street lobby is extremely powerful and almost impossible to take down, so we are glad that someone is questioning them. It's about time.
thank you my brother, no mind them. and here she does it again. somebody is honest and brilliant in the senate today. here she goes again. no one should be above the law cool

SELFWORTH: Thank u.

He was a dictator who controlled everything and everyone. He changed the constitution so he can rule forever. Everything you see on TV is nothing but propaganda .

NL members please don't believe everything you read. You can't say he change lives of his people from your experience sitting in your armchair in Niger.
Sure, I won't believe your post. He's a politician and in sure the western media told a lot of partial truths-lies matrix about him. He's not a dictator, he was elected. Some people like him, some don't. Same for Obama. If you live in Alabama and watch only fox news you'll think everyone hates Obama. Same for Hugo. He tried for his people.

As for calling bush the devil, it's poor diplomatic tactic. But with world politics of today, I have little respect for diplomacy. By the way, in my mental dictionary, diplomacy is defined as " how do I fool these goats to get advantage for my country". Note that many Americans and millions of Iraqis will agree with that description of bush. I would never call bush the devil, but his policies sure do reflect the finger of satan.

Finally, nothing exposes American hypocrisy than the fact that all this while Venezuela supplies the US a lot of oil. You would think they would reject doing business with Venezuela.
Foreign AffairsMississippi Finally Agrees To End Slavery by preselect(op): 1:32pm On Feb 21, 2013
Finally, 148 yrs after the official abolition of slavery, the state of Mississippi ratifies the amendment. Mississippi has often been referred to as the last frontier in the civil rights movement. The state ratified the 14th ammendment to the US constitution which grants equal protection under the law to all citizens in 1870. Years after the ammendment had been adopted and after it had initially rejected the ammendment.
However the state refused to adopt the 13th amendment which abolished slavery was adopted in 1865 but Mississippi refused to ratify it.
However, this year, 148yrs later grin Mississippi finally agrees that blacks should not be slaves grin

shalomigbogal: I used to be one of the most patriotic Igbo girls ever, and I used to always 'rep' being Igbo, taught all my white friends about Igbo etc. Despite my parents not teaching me Igbo, and the culture etc - I was willing to learn. However, I am 18 now and I feel like my expecatations have been shattered. I went to Nigeria last summer, and it was a complete mess. Sure, there are a few great parts - but the majority, especially Igbo lands have HORRIFIC roads which can lead to awful car accidents, it is dirty, smelly, very poor living conditions it is just awful. It made me stop taking my life in the UK for granted. Nigeria really is a complete mess and I really do feel sorry for the majoirty of people who live there as the majoirty of people are really struggling. What type of rubbish is it that a country which produces oil, can not even have electricity 24/7? It is terrible.

Nigeria had so much potential, I used to want to work in politics there etc but to be honest, I really have just given up on that country. The only thing that ties me there now is my family, and I love the african dress Apart from that, nothing... its really sad..

SO I ask, are you a proud igbo / nigerian? I used to be, but I am not really anymore.. there isn't really anything to be proud of. I am proud of myself as an individual, not of the country. Even things like family etc - my family is all split and divided, and I come from a really messy family - so I only have myself to thank for being a good person...
i'm sorry that you came from a messy family, and perhaps from a messy country too, but to be ashamed of your family or country is to be ashamed of your identity. pathetic, if you ask me. about nigeria being a mess, well, you came from a messy family but you became a good person, you can also help other family members to be good or even better, same for your country.
giving up on your people, shame, because, EVERY CHILD KNOWS HIS MOTHER!!! normal well breastfed kids dont disown their mother whatever it may be, whether she's blind, ill, dead, etc. the love remains and they will do whatever to improve the mother even if they are not in good terms. you dont diss your mother because she wears rags, is smelly, has bad breadth, etc, your mother is your mother.

same for your country. and here's the big one . . .
even here in the UK, the "real british" won't count you as one of them. i'm sorry, but it's the harsh truth. even if you have their accent, i gotta tell you, when push comes to shove, they'll take more of the dutch, poles etc before some dark skinned ist generation african immigrant.

finally, as ify said . . . . nobody cares. the world was fine before you were born, will continue to be fine by the time you're dead . .so . .?
but we only care IF you care . . . until then. . . nobody really notices . . .

Gamblin Queen :
As someone who has had at least six episodes of pulmonary embolisms and one episode of Deep Vein Thrombosis, my heart goes out to this young woman and her loved ones.
If there are going to be any prolonged travel it is advised to walk around every 2 hours and wear T.E.D. hose.
I've been blessed by GOD to be able to tell my story. GOD enabled me to walk into the emergency room and get diagnosed.
The scary part is when a P.E. occurs most of the time they are misdiagnosed because the symptoms are not always as one would expect.
I could go on about this terrible ailment but know that it is through DIVINE intervention to survive.
I thank GOD ALMIGHTY for having the right people, at the right place, at the right time for me.
Thank YOU LORD in JESUS' name.

BOLOSKY: I guess i was lucky, suffered something similar few months back and ended up with a stroke..the headache was so bad I was begging for sleeping pills but my doctor refused..very OK naw sha..Anywayz I think we should all keep a healthy lifestyle as a lot of Nigerians hardly go for medical check up untill there is fire on the mountain...R.I.P Goldie .
You sure were damn lucky. What happened in your case was that the embolus went past your cardiopulmonary circulation and got stuck in a vessel supplying some parts of your brain. Easier to handle than PE.

But UK to Nigeria is no that long. Just about 6hrs. So may be there's another etiology for the formation of thrombus in your veins. Make sure you see your doctor frequently.

It's okay smiley
At least there are a few hundred thousand or even millions of people in Africa today who are alive because of the assistance the US gave to AIDS diagnosis and treatment in Africa especially east and southern Africa. This was happening at a time when the president of Africa's biggest economy denied there was even anything called AIDS.
But it's okay, I'm sure there are peeps who would appreciate what he did. smiley

liberals have freedom of thought, which includes giving honor to whom honor is due.

no need to talk too much but why is it that nobody talks about the work Bush did in Africa with regards to HIV/AIDS? here's an excerpt from the washington post opinion piece

"The President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) exist[s] entirely because of a willing leader, a creative policy team, a smattering of activists and a vast, bleeding need," columnist Michael Gerson writes in a Washington Post opinion piece. He cites President George W. Bush's 2003 State of the Union address, during which he announced the program: "Tonight I propose the Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, ... a work of mercy beyond all current international efforts to help the people of Africa. This comprehensive plan will prevent seven million new AIDS infections, treat at least two million people with life-extending drugs and provide humane care for millions of people suffering from AIDS and for children orphaned by AIDS."

"In retrospect, the words were not particularly memorable. But the moment was remarkable," Gerson continues, adding, "An initiative of this scale and ambition -- the largest effort to fight a single disease in history -- was utterly unexpected." He discusses the implementation of the program and outlines a number of lessons that can be gleaned from it after 10 years. "I watched a leader make the decision to save the lives of millions of innocent people," he writes, concluding, "Ten years later, it is still the noblest thing I have ever seen"

panafrican: At her job for a simple "good morning" from a male of her age she would run to a court a file a sexual harassment lawsuit ,and in return the male would be fired from his job. Consequence? No man talks to these women anymore, that is why she is targeting under age boys to take advantage of them. Let her go to jail for 25 years at least.
you are the second person i'm hearing/reading this from. could these purportedly harsh laws against men be discouraging men from going to women? with the sad consequences of a rapid deterioration in relationships in this age?

i honestly don't think so. but i do think the punishment for some men could be a bit harsh
