Fact from the authority, not from a local boy that know nothing about his locality
Lagos is the port and market, you do everything through Lagos and for Lagos. Can you buy or consume the containers in that tiny SE?, do you have the population or the purchasing power?, stop joking.

You are swimming in ignorance you forgot that Onitsha including Aba feed many markets in north, Port Harcourt buy their goods from Onitsha and Aba, you are only harming yourself
You forget that the hide & skin you use in making those Aba shoes is a supply from the North?, and 98% of agricultural goods you resell in those markets comes from the North. If the trucks coming from Kano alone shut you out, you're in trouble.

You be dumbo, common sense is far from you, you forgot that Anambra is bigger than Lagos. Anambra is third largest economy in Nigeria based on non oil economy Kano is below Anambra state, Anambra host 48 standard markets
This was Nominal GDP for which year?. I could only see Anambra, not Onitsha. Anambra has 21 LG and Onitsha is just a town in one of the LG. You were beating chest about Onitsha here, remember?

what commercial center do Igbos want to build in the east aside Onitsha and Nnewi.
All Igbos cannot be at home, they must go outside to hustle, even Jesus Christ left his place of birth before he started performing miracles .
I don't think there's any commercial center in the country that is bigger than Onitsha and Nnewi except Lagos due to its functional seaports.
This is 2024 already, you guys should stop all this dirty beer parlor gossips. Do SE has any commercial or trade volume close to Kano or PH?, does Kano have a seaport?.. By first week of January, y'all would flee SE back to where you sweat it out, while SE becomes deserted. I haven't seen any nation or tribe succeed this way.

This is a dustbin article. Onitsha is no where close to Kano ar a commercial center much less being the commercial nerve center of Nigeria. Onitsha is just a small town like Oshodi, the commercial activities in both places are almost alike. From the article, it affirms that Onitsha is only a distribution center, not a production center, Onitsha is just a place for buying and selling commodity goods just like an average market. Read the screenshot you posted very well.

If you have any reasoning at all,you won't compare Onitsha with a whole Kano.
Kano and Lagos are the nerve centers of the north and west and everyone knows, even my dog too, they know the patronage these place get from the federal government as against other places.
That's why i insist that igbos arguing do not understand the meaning of commercial nerve center or a cosmopolitan city, otherwise they won't be mentioning Aba or Onitsha. And there's nothing like patronage from the FG for Lagos or Kano or PH, every states receives its own share of allocations from the center.

You are full of excuses because your creativity ends in fake products
The lamentations yiu pour here us akin to a boy accusing his paremt of nir sending him to School is the reason he is poor. The kind of noise you make, it appears you don't even need Tinubu or any body to drive development...very shameful excuses....is the reason you are backward is because you don't have a Port Harcourt or Delta or Kano. You even have comprehension challenge
I don't what River was dredged to have Kano more developed than your osu land
You are creative, yet yiu want to be spoonfed
You can imagine their level of delusion. Kano does not cry over a sea or river port yet the volume of trade in Kano is massive, none in SE can come close to Kano.

Igbos are more than capable to run a production driven economy, don't use Anambra as a yardstick as if Aba is not in igboland .
Aba shoes are exported to Cameroon,
Is there anything Southwest produce that is exported outside Nigeria?
We are very complete in igboland, Anambra maybe marketers but Aba are producers.
We have gone beyond media manipulations where people are socially engineered into self doubt
What is Aba producing?, fake wine, milk, drugs?. Thank your stars a man like Putin is not the President, he would have nuked the whole state.

The grass is always greener. You want Lagos, but you don't want makoko. Igboland has the most even distribution of development nearly anywhere in the world. No where is Lagos, but nowhere to Makoko, and all of the villages are steadily climbing with each other. We have the best region in Nigeria specifically because of the way we do things, and there's no point in switching because...idk, you still haven't named the benefit of being any other way.

Also, even if we had New York in the east, people will still travel out. Nothing will change that. It's not as if we're specifically going to places to be more comfortable. Many are going to worst places than where they left because it's our nature to reach a certain age and travel out and has been so for hundreds of years.
You don't want anyone to wake you up from your dream. I can tell you there are many communities in SE looking like 1920 incarnate. Soludo visited one of those communities recently.

Abeokuta Akure and ado Ekiti

Show me one financial institution in the world that won't gladly give loan to Lagos, simply put, Lagos has huge revenue power to draw finances, Abia is at the bottom of the chain.

First what did you mean by cosmopolitan city
Because the last I checked onistha has almost joined with Owerri, in less than 50 years from now the would be referred as one city!
Let's come to ABA
There are alot of foreigners especially Cameroonians, people from Niger, and other Africa countries leaving in ABA!
So your point exactly?
What is Aba?, you guys should stop clowning. Otti is about to borrow 400billion to finance the budget, projected revenue is a mere 160billion for a year. Pls, stop clowning.

Is it the same ogun where agbara and ota industrial estate have bad roads, the same places that all factories have heavy generators for production when numerous gas issues come up. It's obvious you have not been to ogun state
Whether there are bad roads or not, afterall there are bad roads in Lagos, Abuja. Ogun state as big as two southeast states and has been pretty much investor-friendly. You can only begin to pick up the pieces when you open up rather than being clannish.

You have to know what a city means before talking about a cosmopolitan one.

For your envious ronu mind Igbos should replicate PH because it's an Hausa or ronu city abi?

PH is Igboland, no need replicating it, but it is very unproductive and oil reliant under Nigerian control just like Lagos which benefits from infrastructure monopoly and structural privileges yet has a GDP less than half of Tel Aviv, despite Tel Aviv having less than 5% of Lagos population.

Igboland is the most urbanized ethnic homeland in Nigeria and perhaps Africa.

Nnewi, Onitsha and Aba have taught you what we can do in Biafra. Until you show me any other prominent city which is neither an oil hub or capital city, you will win the bragging right.
PH is igboland?, i thought you guys have stopped these dirty talks.

Dude, i'm not the type you dump a 30secs Youtube videos to know what's going on in the southeast. There's nothing going on there. How many local companies do you have?, there are more hotels in southeast than there are factories. Can those few indigenous products compete?, how far do they go beyond the SE?. You need to emphasize more on a commercial city for the entire southeast than glorifying local villages.

Countries that have experienced far worse have risen above the ruins, not sulking and remain stagnated on the past. There's never been a conscious effort to build their home.

Look at this joker. More than 95% of the factories in ogun belong to Chinese, lebanese and Indians. They employ thousands on low wages and repatriate billions of dollars back to their country. What is the difference between what they are doing and lgbos are doing all over Nigeria
That's what being cosmopolitan is all about, opening up to diversity and far from being a cluster of village clans. This ain't 1920, you need knowlege transfer and indigenous advancement in the 21st century and that's why Ogun state is the emerging economy right next to Lagos. Every advanced and emerging economies understand this facts and that's why you flood over there, imagine them shutting their doors at your face if they were as closed minded as you are.

People like this make laugh, they know nothing about the South East.

The South East are the only people who built urban areas without the area having to be capital of anywhere

PH has been capital of oil rich Rivers State for over 50 years

Lagos was capital of Nigeria for almost 80 years

Kaduna was capital of Northern Nigeria and has been of Kaduna for over 50 years

However, Onitsha, Nnewi and Aba were never capital of anywhere

So unless you can show us where in your Region you managed to develop with your sweat, without it becoming capital, and receiving massive government help, dont talk about development with South East
A place does not have to be a capital to become urban. In every states, they are both rural and urban areas. However a few states has cosmopolitan cities, Aba is not, neither Onitsha or Nnewi. Those are pretty much market places with limited services, those ain't commercial cities.

This has become stale, this is 50yrs after, a 50year old is now a grandfather. Why y'all still crawling after so long?. The region received all outstanding federal allocations immediately after the war, you weren't owed a kobo, then where did the money go?. The question you should be asking is, why is SE not attractive to foreign investors?, why is it lacking the pull-factor to attract regional neighbours within the country?. Igbos are still on survival mode 50years after, that's too awful.

They make money from middle man trading

I'm sorry, in the next 20yrs, southeast would have lost the leverage of economic negotiation. The world has moved from subsistence to tech evolution. if they don't create a cosmpolitan city rather than this kind of village gatherings, nothing is going to change.

Pretty much everybody is back home having a blast, there are lots of fun, catching up with friends and families, different kinds of ceremonies all lined up at this festive period. However thrilling it might feel, it's nothing compared to making your home a home and not a guest house. The prevaling economic, social, territorial and regional realities throws a huge challenge to igbos to build a commercial center in the southeast. Almost 90% of the wealth transfered back home this December comes from outside. The fact remains that wealth is not distributed through crumbs sprinkling but by proper deliberate investments. The crumbs you take back home every year ending is unstainable to the development of the region. Several decades after, Igbos should be aggressive in replicating a Lagos, PH, Delta, or Kano in the southeast to boost sustainability. Would igbos ever challenge themselves to build home and attract investors than rushing down to catch the next bus going to other regions at the begining of a new year.
