I soft landed last November too. I will advise you to file your tax. I was able to file as a non-resident PR via Turbotax and faxed the T1 document which I received from TurboTax after completing the process to CRA fax number for non Resident PR.

However, you will be required to use a Canadian address to complete the filing process. I reported my 2019 income from Nigerian under global income, it is not taxable in Canada as T1 recorded my total taxable income as 0.00

A month after faxing the T1, I got an email that my CRA account has been created with the Notice of Assessment also uploaded unto the CRA profile however I have not been able to access my CRA account. I need to call CRA customer service to grant me access/send me login security code as non resident but they seem to be very busy with CERB, EI etc
Thanks for sharing.

However, I tried to download TurboTax, its saying not available for download in your country. How did you download yours?

Good day everyone! Please I need some advice.
My family and I soft landed September last year in Ontario and opened bank accounts. Didn't apply for health insurance or child benefits or anything.
Please I have read and heard conflicting opinions on the need to file tax.
Please I need guidance on this.
Note that we're returning this year.
Thank you very much!
We are in the same boat. We did soft landing last year October. I made efforts to file the taxes from here using a a consultant, but he said the tax filing can be done once we return.

Hoping the borders will open soon.

no, you must have registered, i made a mistake earlier
Hello, i have been looking for this clause on CPA ontario's website which says you can't use another international accounting body to convert to CPA if you are already in Canada. Can you assist with this please?
I registered with ACCA in November after short landing in October. I don't know if I will still qualify for conversion. Thanks

Good day house ,

Lagos-London-Calgary on BA and Air Canada...(with Nigerian Passport)...and need for Transit Visa?

secondly,
Has anyone flown Air Canada from London to Calgary recently.

what's the experience like?

Thanks
BA seems to be the cheapest now. I checked UK government website and this is what I found. However, I need someone who has actually flown this route to share their experience.

Transiting without a visa
You might be eligible for ‘transit without visa’ if:

you arrive and depart by air
have a confirmed onward flight that leaves on the day you arrive or before midnight on the day after you arrive
have the right documents for your destination (eg a visa for that country)
One of the following must also apply:

you’re travelling to (or on part of a reasonable journey to) Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the USA and have a valid visa for that country

Scanned and uploaded. TLS will not collect anything from you except your passport. That is if you are doing self upload.
But will you still go with the documents for sighting by the TLS officials?

Hello justwise and all ...Can an account with a closing balance of 1.2m be used to apply for a tourist visa....Monthly salary of 180k? Married with 2 kids . ... Kindly give ur own opinion. Thanks
You need to show how you accumulated a balance of 1.2m with a salary of 180k with your monthly expenses. You might also need to show evidence of other sources of income.

Hello my people,

I will be submitting my documents next week. I would like you to help me review especially the funds side since it is one of the common reason for refusal. I was refused last December.

I had stated in the application that I intend to spend N700k for 5 days including flight and accommodation. My bank balance is N1.2m with monthly pay of N1.1m. Hope this is okay.

Another challenge is that I saved an amount in my daughter's account (she's 2 years old) and that's the only savings I have. I intend to obtain a letter from the Asset management company to state that I am the one maintaining the account. Kindly advise if this is okay or I just remove it out totally since the bank balance covers the cost of the trip.

Thanks in advance

Has anyone uploaded supporting documents under the self service option? Is it advisable to merge similar documents? For example, 6 months payslips can be merged into a single document for upload.

I would like to confirm from those who have gotten PPR, is the Muslim marriage certificate sufficient for the PR application or do I need to obtain any document from the court/registry? Thanks.

Guys this is my first time writing I’m so broken inside I don’t even know what to do again. Writing ielts for the 3rd time and still not making it is devastating. especially for the fact that I’m unemployed and I have to save the money everytime on my own. It’s really devastating.
1st try with BC. LRWS- 8.5, 6.5,7,8.5
2nd try with IDP LRWS- 7.5,8.0,6.5,8.5
3rd try with IDP LRWS: 8.5,6.5,6.5,8.5
This is demoralizing I have done my ECA since August just waiting on this IELTS and now I was really hoping this would be the last time but I can’t believe I have to continue this again next year. I prayed and prayed and I studied and studied still nothing. This is almost 300k wasted. Having to watch my friends that I even told about the program move on and get PPR and I’m still stuck here. lemme just stop typing I’ve been crying since morning.
Stay with BC, with practice reading becomes easier.

Guys my transcript was delivered to WES on 20th november, i have been refreshing the page for an update.

I just got an update that the evaluation will be due on 1st feb 2019.

Pls is it meant to take that long, this thing is really stressful.
That is unusual. It should be completed within 20 working days. Even if they are closing for the year, it shouldn't take that long.
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by prettysussie: 4:30pm On Oct 16, 2018
Thanks for the clarification. I was hoping to get an easier way asides the 4 papers undecided. I'v started reading though. All the best to us.

Chicjennie:
I'm also in your shoes. I decided to opt for ACCA option instead due to the following:

1. While Ontario accepts CIMA in the MRA for internationally trained accountants into CPA, Alberta does not.
2. I'm unsure about what CPA means by "completion of the *full* CIMA programme to be eligible.
3. ACCA's cut-off is 50% compared to CIMA that is 60%.
4. The ACCA option is cost effective as it is about 50% cheaper than the CIMA option.
5. The requirements to obtain the CPA designation with ACCA is less complex and more straightforward.
6. ACCA is more recognised worldwide than CIMA.

The only Con is that one gets to write 4 papers to obtain the ACCA qualification unlike CIMA that requires candidates to write only 1 paper. But trust me.. that one paper would be loaded!

If you have any objection to the above, please let me know.

Cheers..

@TEECAN,

I'm also ICAN member and i've been searching how to avoid writing exams. I was happy when I saw your post, however on checking CPA Ontario's website, it states that admission criteria for CIMA members include "Have qualified as a professional accountant by completing the entire CIMA program of studies". CIMA website also says that ICAN members with over 5 years of relevant work experience (relevant to CIMA's Practical Experience Requirement) enters directly into the Strategic level case study. A mandatory workshop must be attended before taking the case study exam. which means only the case study exam will be done but its still not the entire CIMA program of study as required by CPA. So please clarify how you plan to convert ICAN to CIMA to CPA.

Thanks.

TEECANN:
@rainazoe

Yes, I began processing the CPA Ontario's Internationally Trained Accountants' (ITA) path registration.

I quickly realized that my ICAN ACA amounts to little in the conversion process as I was expected to practically challenge most of the papers in the CPA Ontario exams all over (Biko, not at this ol' age again grin) so I kind of abandon the process (the painful part was all the kish I had expended to get registered)

But recently, I have found a way around the matter through CIMA, so I won't have to write CPA Ontario papers again, I'll just apply using CIMA for direct CPA membership through the MRA (mutual recognition agreement) CIMA has with CPA Ontario. Se fini grin

However, the caveat is that from registering for CIMA(using ICAN) to using CIMA to register for CPA Ontario's membership, I will cost around 700k naira (yes, almost a million naira). IMHO, I still prefer to spend it than re-writing those papers.

Another caveat, as an immigrant, you have to sort out your membership of CIMA before stepping foot in Canada, if you start the process of taking CIMA exams or converting your ICAN to CIMA after landing, they wont accept it (It's on CPA Ontario website)

These stuffs are long and windy but it with diligent research and prompt action, they are doable.

It will end in praise IJN!

Good evening house,

As regards POF, I'm planning to use PF of my husby and I together with TB certificate. The PF will make up like 60% of the total fund required. Hope CIC will not frown at this? Also, would husby need to write a letter for the use of his PF since I'm the PA?.

Though I'm yet to get ITA, planning is required in this journey. Thank you as you assist with this POF concern.
