While many governments may not be too pro-family...the problem is, removing politics, cost of living is going up in Western countries. The amount of money you need to bring up your child is far more than what your father would have spent.

You need both parents working to earn an income to pay for mortgage and cars, and electronics, and all sorts of things. You need income for childcare since mummy has to work because they need the extra income. You need money for school..now more costly, you need money for electronics child would use, you need internet money, and money for extra school activites. All add up, and all cost.

Some european governments try by throwing in free money for familes. Outside Europe, SOuth Korea since 2005 has had a system of financial aid for young families. Even so, governments cannot do nothing about the cost of living.

The government in charge in Italy is right wing, and probably more pro-family than usual...but they cannot do much.

Same thing in most developed countries. SOuth Korea has had pro-family financial aid for 19 years..populaiton still falling. China has long ended one child policy..population declining. Japan under Abe had more and more money for families...child numbers still falling. Same thing around Europe. Cost is rising, not enough money.

ANd here is the thing...EUROPEAN COUNTRIES WANT MORE CHILDREN...native born. Whatever the government. More children means more tax payers, more money for the elder population's pensions. So, no one can afford anti-family policies. It would be suicide. Immigration is a solution..but immigrants also assimilate and become like the native populatuon, and have fewer kids. Yes, even the Muslims.

It's less anti-family and more that it costs far too much to give a decent level of life to a child in a European country.

Funny you should mention Italy. Italy has a serious youth unemployment crisis. NOt enough jobs for young people...so many of them japa to other European countries. Even those that read sane courses like medicine ...job dey problematic. SO with all that, how would a young italian get money to marry and bring up a family. Some of them even live with their parents because no affordable housing self.

As a country gets developed, it becomes more expensive to marry and bring up kids.
