So, what's the source of IGR?
Also, remember to add PAYE and its contribution and impact on a country or state economy.

In most states aside Lagos region and Rivers state, IGR is mostly gotten from civil servants tax deductions at source. Also, states with higher federal government allocation tend to have higher IGR because such states are able to employ more civil servants which leads to more tax deductions. This also applies to states that have more federal government establishments which leads to more tax than those without.

Aside the above factors, states prioritize tax collection differently. A particular governor may pursue taxation aggressively, including taxing pepper and pure water sellers while another governor might decide to ignore.

GDP is a reliable way to guage productivity/output, not IGR.

Infact they control the price

Do you know happens if they didn't bring just Onions down south

Or let's say beans

😳

No, they don't control price. Price is a function of demand and supply. If price is high, demand falls and your perishable goods becomes ruined because of reduced/no buyers.

They have no storage facilities, so they must sell as fast as possible after harvest. You can't control price under such situation because you're desperate to sell off.

Beans or other foodstuff don't just come from North alone, some of them come from Chad, Niger and even Burkina Faso.

Go North

It still don't mean that there are no Farmers in the south

Ask any foodstuff merchant

I replied based on your assertion that if they don't produce food, that hunger will kill Southerners. I gave you instances on how I can feed myself without foodstuff from North.

I didn't tell you they don't farm.

It is stupid to claim a region is not productive when you fail to provide how much such a region generates via IGR.

IGR? Are you sure you're educated? Production has to do with GDP not IGR.

The population of Kano is higher than Lagos according to official data. Kaduna also has high population yet the so-called IGR is not commensurate with such huge populations. If they're productive, the IGR should also match the population.

That's not true. Most of the foods we eat in the East doesn't come from the North. I can cook a soup that will have little or nothing from North. While garri is grown locally. Rice too is grown nationwide, while I can still do ofe akwu stew and it has nothing from North.

Stop generalizing.

4. North has very few industries and production centers; unlike South, North has very few industries that are still operating. Aside Kano, the rest of Northern Nigeria is almost dead, in terms of industries. Even Kano is no longer what it used to be. But in Lagos, Ogun, Anambra, Abia, Rivers, Oyo etc. Southern states still have significant industries thereby reducing unemployment and boosting the local economy.

5. Commerce and services are low in the North;
commercial activities helps to boost local economy and put money in circulation. Aside Kano, commercial activities and accompanying services is also low in the North, unlike the South.

6. Population explosion in North; families in the North are larger than families in the South. You can see the average family in the North having 10 individuals while those in the South averages 6. If a family of 10 earns 5000 naira a day and a family of 6 earns 5000, those with 6 individuals will automatically have a higher standard of living.

7. Other economic enablers are low in the North
; there are hundreds of thousands of people in the South engaged in music, movie, football, freelancing, forex trading, crypto etc. These people will also help in boosting local economy in the South unlike the North.

On a side note, my heart goes out to the 10 million almajiris that were already eating from the dustbin even when Nigeria was still 'good'. It might not be long before kwashiokor and marasmus will hit the North. The main advantage they have is agriculture, yet they can't even practice it freely anymore because of insecurity. Already, there are signs that their governors are already going crazy with the situation of things. The Niger state governor was reported as saying that they will cut off Kainji dam power supply if they're not allowed to enjoy oil derivation like those in the Niger Delta. Only frustration can make a supposedly educated person make such ridiculous statement.

I ask again, how the hell are Northerners surviving tinubulation?!

This question has become very essential in the face of economic turbulence that has hit Nigeria badly, since Tinubu forced himself into office.

In Lagos, P.H, Abuja, Onitsha, and the rest of Southern Nigeria, people are already at their wit's end. The suffering can only be imagined. Therefore, if the South is already at the brink, then one can only imagine the situation in the North.

This argument is not based on sentiments, but on realities on ground. Before anyone will want to say otherwise, I will provide the following facts:

1. North has no remmitances, unlike South; there are millions of people in the South now that are surviving on remmitances. When they get money from their siblings abroad, they patronize local businesses and the local economy receives boost. Thereby circulating money/earnings. Remmitances currently gives Nigeria as much as income as crude oil. That's how huge it is!

2. There are little Yahoo boys in the North
; after legit remmitances and crude oil, Yahoo Yahoo is the second highest forex earner for Nigeria. Their base is largely in the South. Sometimes, you will see them doing giveaway. Buying luxury goods that other Nigerians can no longer afford. Building houses, patronizing local businesses and generally boosting the local economy in the South. Again, North misses out!

3. Fuel price is significantly more expensive in the North
; the difference in fuel pump price between Lagos and Maiduguiri or Sokoto can be as high as 50 naira per litre! When you aggregate it, you will discover that those Northern states are already losing billions of naira at source! Other important going to the North such as tokunbo vehicles, food, machines etc are also going to be high due to high cost of diesel/fuel. Their operational cost will be high and profits very low. The few businesses or industries in the North will be at a greater risk of collapsing than those in the South!

Southwest is the hardest hit overtaking the northeast. As an Uber driver and an economic scientist and researcher, i can tell you that the suffering in Southwest has quadrupled. It remains for people to start eating grass, just to survive.
What exactly are Siuthwest leaders doing? The only places you see little light are the southwest capitals and even in those capitals, there are steady growth of slums and ghettos...

The Northeast population are also battling serious economic situation majorly occasioned by insecurity. The leadership has continued to pay lipservice on education. These people need education to be lifted from the crude condition they have continued to be in.

The southeast have continued to thrive and evolve in different economic conditions. Whatever the economic condition have continued to strengthen them that they have risen above difficult conditions and they are really doing well.

The South south are emulating the southeast and they are not doing too badly

The northwest leadership have done some good in that region.

The north central are neither here nor there but their condition is better than that of southwest and northeast

Most of you from the SW talk like illiterates. You talked about available data but instead of providing the so-called available data, you decided to pull numbers from your anus.

Federal government agencies like NIWA has reported that most containers are destined for the SE, particularly Onitsha and Aba. Even common sense will tell you that most importers in Nigeria are based in Onitsha, Lagos and Aba. But here you are saying that NW, SW, & SS receives more imports. Even SS relies on Aba and Onitsha for most of their goods.

Hate has made you completely bereft of common sense.

Spits!

Housing:

Available data from people in the business says otherwise. Check number of containers going to South East from Apapa it is fourth in terms of percentage while 30% are destined to South West with Lagos as destination for 60%. North West is came second with 23% followed by South South with Port Harcourt and Edo States having the highest of those trucks destinations.

A simple request on Truckers platform will cure your ignorance.

Nigeria is a funny country. Why should people beg for government to do the right thing?

I mean, if building a port in Onitsha will be viable and make the country develop more, why should it be something to beg for?

Some would even prefer for Nigeria to lose cargo to other countries than for other regions of same country to have them. This sort of witchcraft mentality is why we have remained largely underdeveloped.
Politics / They Wasted Our Oil Resources, Are We Going To Allow Them Waste Our Gas Too? by proeast(m): 5:04pm On Nov 06, 2023
While intelligent leaders used oil wealth to develop their countries, Nigeria wasted its own. The politicians stole everything and stashed abroad. Till today, they're still repatriating some of the stolen billions. Unfortunately, the current politicians still embezzle them and the circle continues.

When I look at communities in Bayelsa, Delta, Akwa Ibom etc. where billions of dollars worth of oil has been extracted over the years, and how they've remained in the worst deplorable state, I feel very sad for the Blackman.

Go to Oloibiri, where crude oil was first discovered in commercial quantities, and you will find the people destitute. No good roads. No good hospitals. No good schools. Nothing! What you see is gross pollution and hopelessness. The same applies to most other communities in the Niger Delta. Unfortunately, they would bear that scar forever. They missed the opportunity of leveraging the crude oil wealth to advance like others. There children will grow up to read how they once exported millions of barrels of crude oil yet they remained so miserable.

Now, the era of gas has emerged. Are we going to allow what happened during oil era to repeat itself?

Have they drafted the gas masterplan? What percentage will go to communities and state? Will it be another monkey dey work, baboon dey chop?

The states must control the gas resources and only pay small fraction to the federal government.

Most of you from the SW just argue for rhetorics sake, without applying common sense or even basic education. Ask yourself, what is IGR? A state government might decide to be heartless and task citizens to death while another won't. It's not by empty IGR that would still be looted. It's by what the government is able to achieve. What are infrastructural projects?

Anambra state for instance built an airport without borrowing a penny. Ebonyi same thing. They also embarked on other infrastructural projects. But Osun state and Ogun state with all the aclaimed IGR tried it but couldn't succeed. They even borrowed billions on top yet nothing.

When citizens are taxed unnecessarily only for the government to loot it, makes such citizens destitute. The money you people would have used in building decent houses and leaving like Igbos is giving to corrupt politicians. Today, most of you live in derelict houses.

My brother, it's not by IGR.

So once a state generate IGR more than ur state d next line of action is to say d IGR does not reflect in d life of the pplπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
