CareerRe: How To Handle Job Rejection by professore(m): 7:04pm On Aug 30, 2023
9jvirgin:
It is only in Nigeria that job rejection can cause you psychological and emotional harm.

In my 8 years in the United States. I have worked in 10 big companies. I just change jobs when the pay is good and God's glory is sitting on my bank account smiley

Meanwhile, I have traversed the entire Victoria Island looking for jobs and was turned down only to end up working at Association of Friends in Maryland as a bar tender in those days.

In all you do in life, please try and experience America.
Did you use your naija certificate or had to go to American school? grin

Switinthemiddle:
Happy sunday y'all, so i have this issue bothering me that i need advice on.

So me and this my guy have known for some years now and i know him as someone who has a flaw for anything under skirts.

It didnt bother me all these while cause i am nt one to judge until recently when i found out from my girlfriend that he was codedly wooing my junior sister and they just started dating.

Now the problem is i dnt knw if i should warn my sister about him and try and put a stop to the relationship or just try and give him and her a chance.

Please advice
That is not a good friend. A good friend should not woo your sister codedly but should make it open to you and seek your own consent first, before going to your sister. Stop yourself and your sister from mingling with him if you can and be careful should in case he fights back.

Jokanem:
7 THINGS YOU CAN NEVER CHANGE UNTIL YOU CHANGE YOURSELF.

1. You can never Change the way people treat you till you change the way you treat people. Matthew 7:12, So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

2. You can not change your character until you change your, friends.
1 Corinthians 15:33, Do not be misled: Bad company corrupts good character.

3. You can not change what you harvest until you change what you sow.
Galatians 6:7, Do not be deceived God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.

4. You can not change the direction of your life until you change the driver.
Exodus 23:2, Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong, your life is either driven by the crowd or by your conviction.

5. You can not change your financial situation until you Change your financial behaviour.
Proverbs 21:17, Whoever loves pleasure will become poor; whoever loves wine and olive oil will never be rich.

6. You can not change me until you change yourself.
Matthew 7:3, And why worry about a speck in your friend's eye when you have a log in your own?

7. You can not change the way you think until you change what you hear, read and watch.
Proverbs 23:7, let the wise listen and add to their learning.

Who you listen to, determines what you learn.

What you learn, determines the information in your head.

The information in your head, determines your decisions.

And your decisions, determine your direction in life.

Nairaland GeneralRe: What's Your Experience With The Worst Friend You've Ever Had? by professore(m): 4:45pm On Aug 23, 2023
workchopNG:
I don't know if this is the right section for this topic, but then, since it's about relationship/friendship, I decided to post it here.

So, I read a rumour of how a young girl who scored 9 As in her WAEC result was poisoned to death. I can't confirm the authenticity of that story, but it took me to memory lane... Maybe, it was her best friend that poisoned her to death out of jealousy. That led me to create this thread.

Back to the topic. “It is better to be alone, than to be in bad company.” – George Washington.

I had my taste of a very bad friendship which lasted for more than 10 years. We met in school (higher institution). He approached me during my first few weeks in school, and we became friends.

He had some good sides, but the bad sides makes me question the good ones. We study and sit together during exam. We share answers codedly in hall, but I'm now thinking he might have been giving me the wrong answers while I was busy supplying him with the right ones. huh

All of this guy's effort was to have a better result than mine, and to make over 3.0 CGPA which he eventually succeeded at. There are times I could've gotten an A in some of my courses including a carryover, but this guy blocked it and have me got a C. I don't want to go into details.

Many things happened between us until few years ago when he referred me for a job, I got the job and was made the manager. The same company employed him a month later as a line manager. This is where he couldn't hide his true colour anymore and started being a thorn in my flesh in our work place.

Apparently he was pained that he referred me and I got a higher pay and position than he got. After many years of friendship, it was then I found out how dangerous that guy can be. I had to cut off that friendship few months into the job, and I'm never ready to have anything to do with that guy in my life again.

It's surprising how the same guy you dine with, drink with, party with, even travel to their hometown and sleep for days, has always been in competition with you without your knowledge. Such a person can kill out of jealousy.

We have to be careful of the kind of people we keep as friends. The funny thing is that I'm not even the best student while in school, why competing with me instead of the best students? Abi first class no dey sweet youhuh Some people are perhaps and furthermore 😂🤣, even notwithstanding. 🤣😂😂

Una good morning o jare

Is it necessary when you meet a divorced man or woman and you want to start a relationship, to start asking what happened? Like starting to dig and dig into the past of the person who is divorced.

In my opinion i don't think it's necessary, just focus on the person and see if you guys can work things out.

RomanceRe: How I Met My Girlfriend by professore(m): 10:08pm On Aug 20, 2023
IconicR:
You also misinterpreted me with this response, nobody is advising her to gold digg but to be smart.
A lady doing her nysc should already have a stable man that she can present before her family as her potential husband.
What was she doing all through her university, I forgot she was busy dating her classmates.Forget all you see here the probability that they'll end up together is almost invisible considering the fact that this boy/man has to chase money after his nysc and this lady will start pressuring him or begin to look for men who are ready to do the needful.
I stated earlier a lady has to be very stingy with her time and this is what I was talking about.
The last line is apt. Yeah I know you didn't ask her to gold dig (I just said it by the way). Now remember I said some people may have been in the labour market for years with something that is not so solid (remember they want to marry too and they continue managing life). Now imagine this guy in question is a doctor, after the necessary things, he will make it faster, quicker and better. I'm short, ladies can go for potentials too (but be sure the potential is high o).
RomanceRe: How I Met My Girlfriend by professore(m): 4:03pm On Aug 20, 2023
IconicR:
Stop misinterpreting my words, every smart lady knows that you should date a man above you in every step in life so everything will be balanced.
It is very unwise to date your agemate hence the reason you see people in relationship for donkey years and still cry when dumping happens.
The life of a woman is different from that of a man and if you ain't calculative as a woman you'll end up wasting your time with the wrong person
I understand you dear, I won't fight you like others but just want to let you know that sometimes people see potentials and they go for it. For example, this guy here may be a First Class student or studied a saleable course. This means, he may land a good job sooner than some people who have been in the labour market without something solid. And of course, to say she should go to already made men is digging gold, nothing more nothing less.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: My Most Important Job At 5000naira/month by professore(m): 3:59pm On Aug 18, 2023
Skyview01:
Looking back at my career trajectories and jobs I have had in the past if someone would ask me what was my best and life-changing job, I would say without any shadow of a doubt, it was my job at a small-sized audit firm along Ikorodu Road Lagos that changed my career as an accountant.

It was the year 2000 and I was done with my Accounting Technician Service(ATS) - I started with my SSCE and passed my PE1 with ICAN.
I was preparing for the next level and desperately looking for a job. Without a degree, OND, HND, and Nysc, or any formal education for that matter. I was a poor broke dude coming from a large poor family, all eyes were on me in the family and I could not afford to fail.

For me, it was a do-or-die kid of affair!

As broke as a church rat, I would always go to the newspaper vendors at the Cele bus stop in Lagos every Tuesday, and pay a token to borrow the Tuesday Guardian.

That was before the internet era, I would write out all the vacancies and return the paper to the vendor. That way, At some point, I had submitted more than 200 applications with no feedback. Totally discouraged, I taught the village people are on top of my matta and might be under some spiritual spell.

Around mid-2000, I came upon a brilliant idea, I made up my mind that I needed experience from an audit firm very badly on my resume if I were to succeed as an accountant. So, I printed more than fifty(50) copies of my resume and starting from Anthony bus stop on Ikorodu Road, up to Oju-Elegba bus stop, you know there are lots of small accounting firms along that axis.

I trekked and distributed my resume and cover letters to all the firms I could find while in the hot sun, sweating like a Christmas goat about to be slaughtered for the pleasures of others.

My modus operandi was to walk up to the receptionist of any firm and tell them I was looking for a job. I would give out my resumes and cover letters like candies on a Halloween night, asking for them to contact me if they happen to have any vacancies while I tossed resumes under doors for offices that were closed.

When I got back home, I would wake up in the middle of the hot night to pray and cry to God for divine favor on my applications.

One month after that exercise precisely, I got a call from one of the audit firms I had dropped my resume to come for an interview for the position of Semi-senior at a whooping salary of N5,000 naira in a month. I was so happy and was jumping upandan with joy, even went to the local revival hour service to share a loud testimony in the church.

Most of the time, I could not afford transport fares and would hitch a ride on the open back of a neighbor's pickup truck for free while immaculately dressed in my cut-and-join three-piece suit and a fat guillotine, neck-chocking tie, sweating and smelling like a Canadian skunk, to work in the at my 5k naira job.

I worked in that company for about one year and learned a lot, I was able to lead audits of manufacturing companies, government agencies, and finance and construction companies, and within one year, I was already well-grounded in accounting work experience.

Going back to the topic of the thread, the reason why I rated that, 5000naira/month, job was that later in the years, all three breakthrough jobs I had specifically requested experience in an accounting firm as a major requirement.
I wouldn't have gotten those jobs without my audit firm experience. I later went on to finish my exams and lectured for the institute, and the rest, as they say, are now stories.

Never let anybody put you down and do not despise days of little beginnings, That little position you may be occupying today may be a building block to a brighter future and hard work does pay.

Whatever you want in life, go out there and fight for it like it's a matter of life and death.
After you have tried your best, you can now go and pray as though you depend on God 100% (if you are religious)

Without that 5k job, I am positive I may not be where I am today, and the purpose of this write-up is to encourage millions of young one's out there. The country may be tough and our leaders may be failing us, prices of commodities may be sky-high in the market, but that is not enough excuse for you not to succeed.

Thanks for reading.
Thanks for being human. Thanks for sharing. I am a graduate with 4. something CGPA, remember me.
