OAUTemitayo:Here's another previous post to educate you: GambaOsaka:I laugh. I am close to some of the people who wrote those reports. I have of course read them. Let me give you just one example. A lot of todo was made about Salami embezzling (I think) ten million naira from the one of the distance learning programs. The man came out with a strong rebuttal that showed that (a) the task force did not interview him (b) the funds in question were appropriated for URC grants (c) the disbursement was even approved and reflected in minutes of meetings!!! You see, I am one of those who were (are) totally unconvinced that Salami could be a good OAU VC (I have my reasons). But unsuitability for the job is one thing, and character assassination is quite another. |
OAUTemitayo:Who is this clown calling me a member of Omole's cabal? Here is another of my previous posts: GambaOsaka:Favorable disposition to Omole? Not at all. Check my post history. Prof. Femi is rabid about high-quality education, and nothing else. Omole was a proud, pompous individual whose hubris was painful to see, and whose arrogance far outreached the quality of his scholarship. Salami was (in my opinion) a little smarter than Omole, but was too much of a schemer. I saw the schemings of his group, and saw the many people earmarked for various positions, and knew that if they got to actualize their plans, OAU was screwed. So, no, I am not a supporter of either man. However, as I have said, my only problem is that they were made to suffer undeserved character assassination, and many of the things they were accused of, Elujoba and his administration did the same! Do you even know that Elujoba's Director, VC's office ran into trouble within that 1 year? |
duni04:I see you have pretended not to see my last comment to you. We may appear to be on the same side on this issue, but I want you to know that inside your apparently-educated heart lurks a bitter bigot. And while you may be cavalier about labeling an entire tribe cowards, the true coward is one who cannot bring himself to apologize even when he himself recognizes that he has erred (I cannot believe someone as apparently educated as yourself does not realize the flaw in such a stupid generalization). |
onyxo76:Please stop the misinformation already. This is a post I made on a previous tread on this topic: GambaOsaka:Sanity? Only because he was able to pacify the unions by getting their (our!) allowances paid from wrong sources. This kept the union's dogs of war at bay for a while, but at the cost of truly messing up the system to the extent that university administration became beholden to non-teaching staff unions! I had high hopes for Elujoba when he took office, but he messed up. Not in terms of corruption, but in terms of (no other word) ineptitude. If you doubt me, ask anybody in OAU, be it student, teaching and non teaching staff, even the popular town igboro drivers felt his impact. There is more to university administration than seeking popularity by paying staff allowances using a university's endowment funds(!!!) among other things. Rejecting qualified hands for leadership posts because they had good working relationships with Omole, and placing (in many case) inept people at the helm of affairs?? Believe me, OAU was well on the way down, even as staff basked in the afterglow of the N300,000 allowance. This is a witchhunt orchestrated by the Omole-Salami group.I personally suspect the initial report must have indeed come from them. Unfortunately for Elujoba, there was something to it, and so, whatever the original reason for the EFCC's spotlight, there is *definitely* substance for the case to stand on. Do you know he came within a cat's whiskers of being fired by the Minister for the payment of those allowances? Contrary to the myth spread by the unions, the minister's ire was not because he paid his staff money, but because he raised the money from sources any sane administrator would not touch. Part of the sources of the allowances paid: millions in endowment donations paid by Adeboye and others, money held for research and special purposes by the Grants and Agencies unit. That's irresponsible! I truly liked Elujoba at the beginning. And, believe me, I am not an Omole man by any stretch of imagination. But when Elujoba started making unguarded utterances, I started realizing he was a poor administrator. He joined the unions in smearing the names and reputations of his predecessors, but is it not strange that till today, there is no case against any of them, even though Elujoba and his people had access to all university records for over a year?? #FreeElujoba I support you on this. Free him. Not because what he did was not (at least) textbook misappropriation, but because he did it ignorantly, and his emergence did indeed douse tensions at a time when it seemed OAU might be razed to the ground. |
psucc:K, listed. Thanks. |
duni04:Duni04, I had been following your posts on this thread with some interest, especially since they largely mirrored my views (which I stated forcefully in a previous thread). You sounded like an intelligent, well-educated individual. Unfortunately, you did eventually show your hand. Unless you retract the shameful slur above, you sir, are a disgrace to intellectuals, whoever you are. |
psucc:Kindly state some of his achievements. Only one will do. On this thread, we will each have our opinions, but will let the facts speak. |
NevetsIbot:LOL. I'm playing devil's advocate dude. |

As a rule, I hate pissing contests. I stay away from arguments with topics that start with superlatives. I am however really worried about this country (aren't we all?). The primary source of my worry today is not the state of the economy or the antics of our so-called leaders. It's the average Nigerian youth I'm worried about. The average Nigerian youth is seemingly incapable of sustained logical or constructive thought. A thread on a statement by Afe Babalola about OBJ being Nigeria's best president today caught my attention, not because of the assertion itself, but because the full spectrum fallacies was on display once folks started contributing. This is the thing: the identity of Nigeria's best president ever should be based on *facts*, not suspicions or unsubstantiated rumors. So here's my proposal: I want to create a thread where the achievements of each of our presidents since independence are listed. I will create a post for each president right after this , and from time to time, scan through submissions of others, to pick achievements to list under the appropriate individual. Consequently, a new visitor to this thread will meet a front page populated with the achievements of each of our presidents till date. Let's see if we can make this lively. Edit: by the way, you can also simply vote with likes, as I see some of you doing already. But please, do drop at least one achievement for me to collate. |
waldigit:I have told a close relative who has property around that area: Land in the Lekki axis will end up being worthless, and this will probably happen in our lifetimes! With the severity of the looming challenges of climate change (rapidly-rising sea levels top on the list), I still do not understand why Nigeria is dumping so much wealth in a low-lying peninsula. Perhaps, I'm getting the geography all wrong? If you know someone close to you who is investing heavily in that area (ahem, Lagos State Gov), tell them: time will come when people will give out their Lekki land for free. |
Dotng:Thanks. I'm a sucker for candour, so I just can't help being impressed by this response. All the best bro! |
Dotng:Dotng, don't resort to this weak defense. This is a university that works primarily on Committee system (even if the committees can often be tele-guided), not some Sicilian enclave. We should not be quick to rubbish people's reputations. Fine, we believe (as I did for a time) that Omole and co were guilty of all manners of illegalities. God so good, we got an opportunity to set up task forces (populated primarily by staunch anti-Omole people) run by members of Senate. They have unfettered access to all the records. At the end of the day, the "evidence" they come up with in every case of note is shaky, or easily refuted. I have to ask: at what point do we accept that perhaps the malfeasance was not as much as we thought?? I believe that you, as a person, would like to keep your reputation. How would you feel if people ran roughshod over it? Would the excuse that you did not do well in office be sufficient to justify people rubbishing a name you spent your entire career building? Imagine this was you, man! |
Dotng:But you are smart enough to know that this is not true na. Elujoba got around a dozen task forces to pore though the University's records for weeks, with unfettered access to everything. Their reports should have been the smoking gun evidence we needed to confirm the malfeasance. And yet, one by one, the allegations in the reports were nullified (in many cases, with documentary evidence). In other words, if the evidence existed, nothing whatsoever stopped it from coming out! |

GambaOsaka:GambaOsaka, you are probably a non-teaching staff, and I agree with you that Elujoba empowered the unions like never before. But those who truly understand were getting worried about how things were going. Abuse Omole all you wish, but do you know Elujoba's funraising drive for the University was almost zero level? I agree with you that many long-delayed promotion cases were resolved. Any sensible VC not named Omole (who had a serious hubris problem) would have done same, I think. |
Dotng:Elujoba and the unions had access to the university's records for over a year. Where is the irrefutable evidence of the malfeasance of the past administration? I for one waited gleefully for such, until it became obvious that we were just partaking in the baseless smearing of the reputations of others. Before you talk, do you realize that many of the innuendos against Omole and co centered on cash advances? Why don't you find out how Saint Elujoba and co funded the last convocation? |
GambaOsaka:Sanity? Only because he was able to pacify the unions by getting their (our!) allowances paid from wrong sources. Franzinni:I, Prof. Femi say it is wrong. Wrong to teach 10 year olds MUTUAL masturbation. As I said on a previous post, sex education is a nuanced subject, and textbooks like this use the blunt trauma of a cudgel where the precision of a scalpel is needed. |
