Freddyjimoh: Very good move! Where are they rushing to? As a university teacher, I know that one of the reasons we have so many half-baked graduates is that many of them were rushed into the universities, immature, and having not had any time to grow as human beings or discover themselves. Many university students have no idea what they intend to do with their lives, so when the training wheels of the educational system come off, they are lost. Tertiary education only gives you the tools to shape what you have inside you into something valuable to you and to society. I think this will make that easier. 2 Likes 1 Share |

efficiencie: Please take the opportunity to educate yourself from my previous post about how scientific consensus is formed. I am not even going to find out if the extract was from a real peer-reviewed scientific article. A few years ago, a group was a able to beat the speed of light. Not just any group. A very well-respected research group. They published their findings, but after the process I described to you went into gear, their findings were easily refuted. I'm fed up with this bullshit. If one of you conspiracy wonks has the guts, provide the list of credible scientific studies backing up your claims, and let me provide a list that says they are bullshit. 1 Like |

hotwax: What is the point? Most of the plastics in your house have chemicals that at one point or the other, have been shown to be carcinogenic. Most of your creams, your food, your water, the air you breathe. At one point or the other, someone has found them carcinogenic. Oh, yeah: your alcohol too. You lot do not understand how scientific consensus is arrived at on a matter. The methodology has to be sound, you have to show statistical significance, and the results must be reproducible. Once that happens, a consensus is formed. It just happens. Science gets smarter. No need for histrionics, or frothing at the mouth. The process is the most democratic on earth, and not controlled to any real significant extent by any government (there are power blocks; that is a different discussion). And the scientific consensus right now is that no portion of the electromagnetic spectrum being used, or planned for use in any technology (including 5G) at the recommended power levels is more carcinogenic than the things I started off listing. So, give this thing a rest. 2 Likes |

Skyfornia: Weep for yourself! Why must we believe anything without evidence? Perhaps I should show you the compelling evidence that the earth is flat then. BTW, we don't believe the earth is spherical (approximately) because An Important Scientist told us. We do so because Science provides a solid framework to discern truth from trash. Not infallible, but solid. And right now, that framework says all the fears you guys are screaming about are baseless. We now live in the world of Idiocracy. 3 Likes |

Chief, your kind of aggressive ignorance is a threat to the world (and I am not even joking). Why don't you quit spewing rubbish? Every baby scientist knows correlation does not imply causation! I'll bet you $500 that I can show you ten other things that correlate with high infection rates, starting with letters in the names of cities!! If you prefer to be ignorant, fine, but why confuse innocent young ones?! For the last time, there is NOT A SINGLE credible scientific evidence that 5G has anything to do with COVID. And would you please stop blathering about hydroxychloroquine? Its antiviral effects have been known for a long while, but it is far from the miracle drug Trump sold it as. If only he (and slow fellows like you) had listened to Dr. Fauci, you would understand that there is a process by which efficacy of a drug is established. Don't even get me started on your claims. You cure cancer? I'm sure you're one of those people who think cancers are just leg sores. And how can you have patents and innovations when you do not know the first thing about how science is done? Intuition? Abegi. Stop filling the heads of gullible youths with rubbish! GamalNasser: 4 Likes 1 Share |

GamalNasser: Lolzzzzz. I do Science for a living. The fabric of proven, actionable knowledge as we know it today is based on the Scientific Method. You should also know that anecdotal evidence is not reckoned with in Science. Do you know how many people of my generation could narrate the story of how Thunder Balogun killed someone with a ball? A story that never happened. Moral: there are laid down ways of mining, evaluating and disseminating knowledge. If one goes off-road, they end up sprouting wild theories like you (no offense meant). Abalaka "cured" so many of AIDS, abi? Unless you show me your peer-reviewed articles, I'm going to laugh indeed. But I do wish you the best, for what its worth. Surely, a professor such as yourself must know that this is how knowledge is created and disseminated, not from low-bit rate WhatsApp videos from unknowns? 989900: Units ke? This is not a scientific journal nao. The context within which the word was used made it clear what I meant. Whatever the units, the magnitude of this event was insufficient for any type of sensationalism to result in widespread panic. Your open-minded/even-handed approach to this mirrors mine, so, I don't have any problem with you at all. Unfortunately, most people are jumping to conclusions on opposite sides of the divide. 2 Likes |

989900:I have no idea why this distinction is important to you. But since you asked: numerous meteorites large enough to cause large-scale destruction have been recorded in history, including at least one that wiped out almost all life on the planet. So, "tiny" in this context is any meteorite whose impact is either insignificant, or confined to a very small geographical area. Happy? Edit: note this well about the conversation you are jumping into: we're talking about panic caused by sensational headlines, and not the panic caused by the strike itself. |

Respectful disagreement based on evidence. And you already discredited him.I didn't. Show me where. What riled me was not the prof, but the sensationalist headline designed to stoke up unnecessary panic.... 'ARE WE SAFE? FIRST OCCURRENCE IN NIGERIA? HOW DANGEROUS?' sml...I hate sensationalism too, but I can't see why a tiny meteorite strike would cause panic? |

Why do you non-experts find it so easy to reject expert opinion? The only problem is the fact that his theory flies in the face of what the policemen (dunno if they were eye-witnesses) said. Otherwise, his analysis checks out. |

Well, The prof must have some balls for sticking with his meteorite story even after the governor sided with the explosives story. This should be interesting. |
