Crime / Re: Pictures Of Christian Teenage Girls that were Abducted In The North by Psalm18: 10:39am On Mar 07, 2016
this is almost an epidemic; with active collusion of the immediate family of the abductors, neighbours, imams and custodians of religion in that region.
the active role of purdah and ba shiga also plays a factor where you cannot tell the faces of those in a house. all those found guilty; should be thrown in jails including parents of the abductors

Well articulated.
I was on that road myself few months ago and I didn't see the 'smoothness' every one was talking about. It was raining that day and puddles kept building up in different places implying poor drainage.
Also the speed of some drivers was ridiculous.

Yesterday was Sunday. He might have gone out with the toy to enjoy himself when he heard of the news. Do you expect him to first rush home and come to the hospital with a car?
Nice try except the facts contradict that.
The minister and his family died late afternoon. It was allover social media ; this is abuja national hospital in the evening which implies hours had passed before the bodies where brought to the morgue. Dino had several hours to pick what to wear and drive; obviously he wanted to make a statement and choose this toy to drive there. There is a time and moment for everything hence why you won't see sensible people act in a gaudy insensitive manner in sombre occasions.
I bet you lots of other "vip" were at the hospital and the man house; none made the news about themselves. But the glory hunter even in someone tragic times had to inteject himself into the story.

Self awareness is a gift not everyone has.
A family lies slaughtered at the morgue and somehow Dino melaye and his pea sized brain ending up been the news.
He didn't come to pay homage: he came to show off his toy car.

Politics / Re: Ese Oruru And The Activism Enterprise By Eseoghene Al-faruq Ohwojeheri by Psalm18: 3:17am On Mar 07, 2016
Read through the whole epistle and the writer has no point. Without the loud media campaign and cyber noise. The girl will still be in Kano. The law and powers are hugely tilted against the poor; imagine the other cases that were highlighted since the ese issue. Families talking about 1 year or more since they last saw their daughters and the writer is busy talking about how procedures should be followed. This is a crises and in a crises you administer emergency saving measures.
After now the northern governors should go on a media blitz to tell their citizens especially the village heads and emirs they will be no safe houses for those who bring teenagers to their jurisdiction. The laws of Nigeria is superior to cultural and religious tenets.

RUBBISH!
The raw truth is that many students now are not reading.
Internet take over, many of them put their hope in all these Jamb Expo internet stuff!
- my junior bro prepared for this jamb like a mad man, he locked up his phone, Bs2 games, Gadgets in a box untoched for over two months.
He reads all throught the nights and then sleep in the morning.
He got this recent Jamb 287.
So happy for him, cooked a hot Nsala soup with for him the day he showed me his result. Lol

dont generalize; its like me saying all igbos are money grubbers; you will feel offended am sure. think deeply about the issues here; candidates complained of centres where power failure occurred while writing jamb, they complained of computers logging out while still attempting questions, JAMB itself has acknowledged that there were problems surrounding the examinations. your brother worked hard and was fortunate to be in a center without ict challenges; candidates with lesser scores that experienced jamb failure regarding their centers need their voices heard and remedy made for them.not all young people are playing and wasting time on the internet.
I wrote my jamb over fifteen years now but I dont support situations where young people are made hostage to a failure of administration. Finally what you did is like blaming people going for nysc that have accident on the road for not working their posting or tagging all unemployed youths as lazy people that cannot work.

In any sane country.
Dibu should have resigned or be fired.
I bet the Cbt contract was given to a 'friendly ict company' with little competence in this things and Dibu ojerinde is smiling to the bank with his kickback.

Sacrificing our young people for his selfish gains. The 40 additional mark is papering over the cracks.

Conpensation ofcourse, for hapharzad preparation by jamb. Dibu ojerinde, must you pretend to know what you are doing when in actual fact you don't? Disturbing the children year-in year-out, with no proper planning. Why not learn the proper method of computer based examinations before implementation. Also, many of the student had never used computer all their lives. Rather than practise overtime, no, you rush into it becos is what they use abroad, forgetting that they starts teaching their children the use of computer and other things from tender age. Nigeria is a copy cat who will always wait for the saner countries to introduce and they follow.

Education / Re: JAMB Cancels Centres, Relocates Candidates by Psalm18: 12:18pm On Mar 01, 2016
airsaylongcon:

At the bolded toefl is written by a large number of people some of whom are foreign students. Several other non-students write toefl annually. The total worldwide population of toefl candidates is waaaaaaaaay more than JAMB.

The problem with JAMB is that they try do the entire thing within a short window whereas toefl is written year round. Also the useless infrastructure and poor connectivity worsens matters. But there is a way they can organise and coordinate this exam whereby the only inhibiting factor will be power.
I agree witrh you on power issue. The more reason pbt should be continued. Like I said not ONE candidate should suffer poor administrative duties of jamb.
We have a culture of blaming victims in this country. It has to change.
Finally toefl still has a pbt version.

How about toefl? Isn't it completely CBT?

It is but toefl is for foreign students seeking to enter usa who are citizens of non English speaking countries so the population is less than the millions of Nigerians takng jamb

In addition to all that, toefl centers are carefully choosen with rigorous testing done before exams.
I'm not agains CBT but NOT one Nigerian student should be made to suffer for imcompetence.
Some candidates complained that they left the venue at 6pm

kachnov:

You're kinda right,it will be more difficult for those in rural areas thereby making them disadvantaged students with regards to getting admission. But considering ICT advancements I think JAMB's CBT is a laudable thingy.

Ict advancements is still a myth in nigeria. There is progress but not yet enough to call is advancement.
Ict goes with power. The queue are back today; centres with power failure tommorow will need fuel. Is anybody in jamb thinking of that an making arrangements.
The best thing is to do 30 percent CBT and 70 percent pbt for now.
Our young people should not be guinea pigs for testing ict advancements.
Education / Re: JAMB Cancels Centres, Relocates Candidates by Psalm18: 10:42am On Mar 01, 2016
kachnov:
Well two centers isn't enough reason to condemn the entire CBT process, but they should improve.

You are looking at it from the wrong perspective.
First of all they are more than two centres. Lagos and abuja are in the eye of the media and also have more enlightened parents hence it's easy for jam to be attentive.

The hinterlands and other rural areas have similar issues. Few days ago someone complained from imo state. I will trust the reports of students in those areas who have complained but have no one to fight their case. I bet you same is happening in zamfara. Kogi, plateau but they are told to just suck it up
Jamb gets huge monies from candidates. And they don't pay to be treated poorly. Jamb was not set up to do favour to students. It's not welfare scheme
Education / Re: JAMB Cancels Centres, Relocates Candidates by Psalm18: 10:32am On Mar 01, 2016
What exactly is wrong with this people

Must young people sacrifice for a multi million naira corporation. If jamb was a private sector organization heads will roll and they may close shop

America with all its technological competence and high speed broad band still has paper and pen version of its SAT exams. We have epileptic power supply, snail speed broadband and low computer literacy and we rush headlong into CBT jamb
This is grossly unfair. Pls keep bombarding both senators and house of rep to carry out their oversight function.

Education / Re: Jamb Is Changing Our Subject Combinations!!! by Psalm18: 3:36pm On Feb 29, 2016
I have never led any protest in Nigeria. Nothing more than a nairaland critic but this is the proverbial straw

Two days ago someone talked about how the ict centres failed and they were logged out even before completing the papers.
Now JAMB is changing people subject.
Our young people should not be made to suffer due to administrative incompetence

I'll edit this post soon when I find the names and member of the national assembly on education as well a way to reach the education minister.
As many people as can write should pls write to the members
Murray Bruce is on fct committee but ill also copy him on facebook
I enjoin others to do the same
It could be your child tomorrow

All nairaland warriors; this is not apc or pdp issues; these are innocent kids made to suffer for nothing. Please let's get this much media traction to correct this serious anomaly for the next batch. If these young people are deprived of admission and turn to crime; we will blame them not knowing the path that set them off.

EDIT; Thanks for the likes and shares; it shows people identify with the cause; beyond that what will be more pleasing is to retweet the link of this page to newspaper twitter handles and facebook pages of politicians who are using social media to interact,
as I said earlier, i will find the names of the senate committee on education. they are
1. SENATOR Wammakko ; ex governor of Sokoto as Chairman
2. SENATOR Rose Oko as deputy
sadly both are not on Facebook; there is a Senator Wammakko on facebook but it looks fake
I am also going to write to daily trust and hope they publish it(it has a large circulation
the minister of education Adamu Adamu once worked with the newspaper as a columnist
lets all join effort to correct this anomalies for candidates; sadly some have already suffered this year;
JAMB collects huge sums of monies in addition to subvention and they should be held accountable for shoddy preparations.
ill be back with updates on how my letters and other little efforts went.
I have sent a personal message to Ben Bruce on facebook; let others do same; just copy the link of this page and send to him
Thank you All.

Society should be on a progressive curve
When I wrote jamb decades back; we used pen and paper. Very little incidence of delayed exams.
Now they use ict which ordinarily should help the entire process and yet it makes the process worse with poor servers, power outage and crashed webpage
This is unfair to our young people.
Now I wish the senators on education were on twitter and facebook like Ben murry Bruce; I would have drawn their attention to this.

Simple solution; let they be a hybrid of traditional pen and paper and reliable urban centers with working generators as back up can use the ict type.
Moral failure and carelessness is also a form of corruption

Education / Re: My Bitter Experience With Jamb Yesterday by Psalm18: 7:45pm On Feb 28, 2016
redcliff:

Actually, Jamb is not the problem. The problem is students always looking for ways to cheat the system. If folks did not try to always cheat during exams, I dont think jamb would try to sophisticate anything because there is no need fixing an unbroken system. The system is just too bad where students dont even do anything anymore and the only thing they just want to do is cheat and pass their way through. Hence, the procedures Jamb has been taking over they years. One time, it was just general questions and answers for everybody and it was fine, later because the level of cheating and malpractice was just too high that they had to switch it to types. Students also beat that system, later it was changed and It would keep changing until the level of malpractice reduces which i think would not. This generation wants to be spoon fed everything. Even success!
You have no idea what you saying.

A stronger naira helps tackle inflation. Prices of goods are going to shoot up if our naira is weak.

A stronger naira can help us in the sub region:companies and businesses in countries with weaker currencies around us can be open to take over by Nigerian business owners. Even if not direct takeover people in nigeria can work here take our strong naira and go open up business in Togo, Benin or ivory coast. The naira is accepted in this regional countries.
