The Osun State Government has said it planned to make Osogbo-Iwo road passable before the end of year 2019. Responding to questions from our correspondent on Sunday, Remi Owowaye, the Supervisor for Works and Health, explained that heavy rain had slowed down the pace of work on the project. He, however, said although the government had not set completion date target, efforts would be geared towards making the road passable before end of the year. He also hinted of plan by the Oyetola administration to undertake complete reconstruction of the road in the nearest future and called for support of all stakeholders to ensure speedy completion of the rehabilitation work. Meanwhile, Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, commended Oyetola for opening the major road to the Osun West Senatorial District in fulfilment of the promise he made at his palace during his electioneering. Online digital bank startup, Kuda, yesterday raised $1.6 million in a pre-seed round from angel investors Haresh Aswani, Ragnar Meitern, amongst others. Formerly known as Kudimoney, Kuda launched in 2016 as a lending platform but later rebranded after receiving a banking license from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in June. The startup boasts of having the lowest transfer rates in Nigeria. It allows airtime purchase, bill payment options and in addition to issuing free debit cards, allows free account opening online. Advertisement The startup has its sights on becoming the first digital-only bank without physical locations in Nigeria as it prepares for its official launch in the fourth quarter of the year. This fresh funding received will help Kuda commence operations as soon as possible and provide support for its developer teams. To make these plans possible, the startup has made strategic partnerships with three West African banks — Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB), Access Bank and Zenith Bank. The Lagos and London-based startup is founded by Babs Ogundeyi and Musty Mustapha. https://techpoint.africa/2019/09/12/kuda-secures-1-6m-funding/ Cc Lalasticlala Mynd44

A team of three students from Bowen University, Osun State, on Friday emerged the overall winner of the 2019 Nigeria Universities Computer Programming Contest (NUCPC), after slugging it out with 15 other teams. Bowen University is a private institution owned by the Baptist Church and run by the Nigerian Baptist Convention. The team, along with three others that came second, third and fourth, will represent Nigeria at the next level of the contest – the Africa and Arab Collegiate Programming Championship (ACPC). Prof. Stephen Onah, the Director/Chief Executive of the National Mathematical Centre (NMC), in a speech at the closing ceremony in Sheda, Kwali Area Council, congratulated all the participants, saying that everyone was a winner. “For many reasons, this contest in itself is not an all comers contest. Its goal was to select the best from different universities. Before you came, you were among the top persons within your departments. “You have been ranked as the best three in each of the levels, so no one is the least intelligent among you.” Onah also said that in order to sustain and encourage the learning of computer programming, the Centre had collaborated with other relevant stakeholders to create clubs in the schools. According to him, this will help the Centre to “catch them young” through different intellectual activities like debates and competitions, among others. “This annual Nigeria Universities Programming Contest (NUCPC) for the 16 teams from Nigerian universities is in fulfilment of the mandate of NMC,” he added. Similarly, Mrs. Oluchi Bamidele, the Coordinator, Computer Science Programme of NMC, said that the aim of the contest was to discover young talents in Computer Science/IT in the universities across the country. “The contest also seeks to foster creativity, teamwork and innovation in building new software programmes and enable students to test their abilities to perform under pressure,’’ he said. According to her, each university presented a minimum of one team and a maximum of three teams with each team comprising three members. She said that the participants at the contest were undergraduate students, who had had less than five years of undergraduate studies before the competition. Mr Mohamed Fouad, the Executive Director, ACPC, expressed satisfaction at the conduct of the participants and encouraged them to study harder so as to compete favourably globally. Fouad said that the NUCPC was the most prestigious national programming contest. “I’m very happy to see these bright students participating in the competition. This is the first time we are conducting this competition internationally. “The conduct here is better than many other countries we have visited, considering the fact that this is the first time the country is hosting it. “However, the students need to train hard, they need to train more and more, because internationally, they need to solve between 3,000 and 5,000 problems before we go to their final rounds. “This is their first experience in this type of competition, so they need to try harder to reach the international level,” he reiterated. He also said that the team from the Africa and Arab Collegiate Programming Championship had concluded plans to conduct free online training for the teams that qualified for the next level https://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2019/09/14/bowen-university-beats-14-others-to-win-computer-programming-contest/ Cc Lalasticlala Mynd44

Osun State Government on Wednesday said work had been completed on the 100 Primary Health Centres renovated under the first phase of its ongoing PHC/Hospital Revitalisation Programme. It said inauguration of the centres would commence on Friday. Two members of state Health Committee, Rafiu Isamotu and Remi Omowaye, told reporters at Abere Government Secretariat that work on the projects was fast-tracked because of the Adegboyega Oyetola government was committed to the development of the health sector. Isamotu said the state government was planning to renovate and revitalise 332 PHCs in all the wards in the state, as well as 57 Secondary Health Centres. Omowaye urged residents to always patronise health facilities nearest to them instead of travelling long distances to access health care in big hospitals. He said, “We have equipped all the hospitals in line with the best standard of the World Health Organisation. We are not focusing on the PHCs only, we are rehabilitating 57 secondary health care centres.” www.punchng.com/100-osun-phc-centres-ready-for-inauguration/amp/ Cc Lalasticlala Mynd44 |
