J12: Quite unfortunate. I'll be the last person to such a call. Anyone who supports this is definitely an enemy of Nigeria. At this critical moment in our national life, what we need is stability and we've struggling to be a stable nation. Such a protest will drag us back to 1984. Take a look at Egypt today, what exactly have they achieved after the massive protests that have swept the country in recent times? Bloodshed and strife. We already have enough of that in Nigeria and calling for more is definitely unpatriotic.
Besides, what exactly has Jonathan done wrong to warrant his removal? The man is trying his best for the country, only pessimists fail to see that and unfortunately we have a lot of them in our midst.
If you feel the president is not doing enough, 2015 is not far. Vote him out if you can.

For some, the horror of the Christian doctrine of hell—that it is a place of eternal, conscious torment where God's enemies are punished—has led them not just to avert their eyes and minds, but to deny it entirely. "Surely," they say, "hell is afictional construct used to oppress peoplewith fear; a God of love would never allow such a place to really exist." There's an emotional power to this argument, to be sure. No one, certainly no Christian, likes the idea of hel
On the contrary, the doctrine and reality of hell actually throws the glory of the gospel into sharp relief for us. It helps us to understand just how great God really is, how sinfully wretched we really are, and how unutterably amazing it is that hewould show us grace at all. Moreover, the reality of hell—if we don't push it out of our minds—will focus us, above all, on the task of proclaiming the gospel to those who are in danger of spending eternity there.
1. Scripture teaches that there is a real place called hell. I won't belabor this point. Others have made this case with crystal clarity. Suffice it to say that medieval bishops didn't invent the doctrine of hell as a way to scare the serfs; they got it from the apostles. And the apostles didn't invent it to scare the pagans; they got it from Jesus, At the most basic level, therefore, if we claim to be Christians and to believe that the Bible is the word of God, we have to recognize that the Bible teaches the reality of hell. But there's more.

This is how we recognize the Spirit {Or spirit} of truth and the spirit of falsehood.
The reason why false teachers, who deny one or more of the core doctrines of the Faith, gain so many followers is that they are saying what the world wants to hear.
true.... Even on Nairaland here embarassed

John saw the false teachers of his day and has taught us how to recognize the difference between those who have the Spirit of truth and those who have aspirit of falsehood. Yes, there is such a thing as a spirit of falsehood! One of the marks of the spirit of falsehood is that they gain many followers from the world because their message is not really different from the world. Those who speak the truth in love, however, can expect to be rejected most of the time. Not all the time, but most of the time. There is no sugar coating to this concept.Few will follow the narrow road and enter the small gate (Matt. 7:13-14).Those who have the spirit of falsehood are so successful because they have dumbed-down the Gospel and do not teach the truth about man'scondition of sin, needing repentance and belief that Jesus Christ is Lord. They teach what people want to hear, and the Bible foretold long ago that people would want myths and fables.
2 Tim. 4:3-4 For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around thema great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.
This is how we recognize the Spirit {Or spirit} of truth and the spirit of falsehood.

Christianity EtcRe: Why False Teachers Have So Many Followers ? by Pygru: 5:08pm On Jul 13, 2013
frosbel: 1 John 4:4-6 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us.

This is how we recognize the Spirit {Or spirit} of truth and the spirit of falsehood.

The reason why false teachers, who deny one or more of the core doctrines of the Faith, gain so many followers is that they are saying what the world wants to hear. They organize their churches so that they cater to unbelievers, and once non Christians come in they are fed a diet devoid of the essential nutrition of the Gospel and sound doctrine. False teachers conduct surveys to see what non-believers are looking for in a "church" and then provide those things. False teachers claim they are bringing people into the Kingdom when in fact they are bringing them out of the world and back into the world, the only difference now being that they are spending their money in support of some apostate leader and/or group.

John saw the false teachers of his day and has taught us how to recognize the difference between those who have the Spirit of truth and those who have a spirit of falsehood. Yes, there is such a thing as a spirit of falsehood! One of the marks of the spirit of falsehood is that they gain many followers from the world because their message is not really different from the world. Those who speak the truth in love, however, can expect to be rejected most of the time. Not all the time, but most of the time. There is no sugar coating to this concept. Few will follow the narrow road and enter the small gate (Matt. 7:13-14). Those who have the spirit of falsehood are so successful because they have dumbed-down the Gospel and do not teach the truth about man's condition of sin, needing repentance and belief that Jesus Christ is Lord. They teach what people want to hear, and the Bible foretold long ago that people would want myths and fables.

2 Tim. 4:3-4 For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

So called Christian teachers today are happy to tell stories of healings and dead raisings which they have not verified and do not care to verify. Their followers, assuming their teacher would only tell the truth, spread these lies even further. And so the cycle perpetuates itself. Yet the Bible is clear that true believers check to see they are telling the truth because unrepentant liars don't go to heaven.

Re 21:8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulphur. This is the second death."

Yet followers of the false teachers, that the world love, will hear nothing negative about their idols. They become very angry and verbally abusive of any hint at the unbiblical practices and lies of their heroes. I could share with you hundreds of emails to prove my point. Thankfully a few have been saved out from under the spell of false teachers because they were finally able, with the help of the Spirit and the Word, to wake up from their fable-induced haze to reality. I also have hundreds of emails of those who have come to their senses. But they are in the vast minority. Those who say they are Christians but have not left the world are clearly not interested in the facts. They are interested in their feelings.

2 Tim. 3:1-5 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.

Those who have spent any time with the new generation of pleasure lovers in the Church understand that, ultimately, you have to "have nothing to do with them". They are self-deceived and have no real love of the truth.

2 Thes. 2:9-10 The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.

You can claim you are saved all you want, but if you don't have a love of the Truth then you are clearly not regenerate. Those who have the Spirit of truth, by virtue of being born again, show a love of the truth and will turn and repent when they are presented with the facts. Those who claim to be followers of Christ yet will not turn from disobedience to the Word of God when warned and instead cling to their feelings or some experience they have had, are pretenders. This is a time of testing for all those who claim to be Christians. If you cannot tolerate the truth and speak the truth, then you have no part in Christ and His Holy Spirit.

Ac 8:21 You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God.

These words, spoken to Simon Magus by Peter, ring true today. There are many Simon the Sorcerers in the churches today who follow after signs and wonders for fame and fortune. Those who follow them do not have a heart that is right before God.

REPENT! Repent and turn from your evil ideas, your evil associations, your evil false apostles, your evil false prophets, your evil false Christs, your evil false teachers. If you don't believe that these people are evil, then you don't know how God perceives them.

2 Cor. 11:12-15 And I will keep on doing what I am doing in order to cut the ground from under those who want an opportunity to be considered equal with us in the things they boast about. For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.

Repent and recognize that you may be involved in a church or ministry that appeals to the world but is not teaching the truth. Stop relying on your feelings to guide you, and start searching the Word of God, asking the Holy Spirit for discernment. Stop listening to false teachers who teach you that discernment and doctrine are bad things. Admit that you may have been deceived, for that is the beginning of your salvation.

Christianity EtcRe: Of That Day And Hour Knoweth No Man by Pygru: 4:42pm On Jul 13, 2013
frosbel: Christ has given signs of His coming. He declares that we may know when He is near, even at the doors. He says of those who see these signs, "This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled." "Heaven and earth shall pass away," He says, "but My words shall not pass away."

Christ is coming with clouds and with great glory. A multitude of shining angels will attend Him. When He gave the signs of His coming He said, "When these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh."

But the day and the hour of His coming Christ has not revealed. He stated plainly to His disciples that He Himself could not make known the day or the hour of His second appearing. Had He been at liberty to reveal this, why need He have exhorted them to maintain an attitude of constant expectancy? There are those who claim to know the very day and hour of our Lord's appearing. Very earnest are they in mapping out the future. But the Lord has warned them off the ground they occupy. The exact time of the second coming of the Son of man is God's mystery.

Christ continues, pointing out the condition of the world at His coming: "As the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the Flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and knew not until the Flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be." Christ does not here bring to view a temporal millennium, a thousand years in which all are to prepare for eternity. He tells us that as it was in Noah's day, so will it be when the Son of man comes again.

How was it in Noah's day? "God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually." Gen. 6:5. The inhabitants of the antediluvian world turned from Jehovah, refusing to do His holy will. They followed their own unholy imagination and perverted ideas. It was because of their wickedness that they were destroyed; and today the world is following the same way. It presents no flattering signs of millennial glory. The transgressors of God's law are filling the earth with wickedness. Their betting, their horse racing, their gambling, their dissipation, their lustful practices, their untamable passions, are fast filling the world with violence.

In the prophecy of Jerusalem's destruction Christ said, "Because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come." This prophecy will again be fulfilled. The abounding iniquity of that day finds its counterpart in this generation. So with the prediction in regard to the preaching of the gospel. Before the fall of Jerusalem, Paul, writing by the Holy Spirit, declared that the gospel was preached to "every creature which is under heaven." Col. 1:23. So now, before the coming of the Son of man, the everlasting gospel is to be preached "to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people." Rev. 14:6, 14. God "hath appointed a day, in the which He will judge the world." Acts 17:31. Christ tells us when that day shall be ushered in. He does not say that all the world will be converted, but that "this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come." By giving the gospel to the world it is in our power to hasten our Lord's return. We are not only to look for but to hasten the coming of the day of God. 2 Peter 3:12, margin. Had the church of Christ done her appointed work as the Lord ordained, the whole world would before this have been warned, and the Lord Jesus would have come to our earth in power and great glory.

After He had given the signs of His coming, Christ said, "When ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand." "Take ye heed, watch and pray." God has always given men warning of coming judgments. Those who had faith in His message for their time, and who acted out their faith, in obedience to His commandments, escaped the judgments that fell upon the disobedient and unbelieving. The word came to Noah, "Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before Me." Noah obeyed and was saved. The message came to Lot, "Up, get you out of this place; for the Lord will destroy this city." Gen. 7:1; 19:14. Lot placed himself under the guardianship of the heavenly messengers, and was saved. So Christ's disciples were given warning of the destruction of Jerusalem. Those who watched for the sign of the coming ruin, and fled from the city, escaped the destruction. So now we are given warning of Christ's second coming and of the destruction to fall upon the world. Those who heed the warning will be saved.

Because we know not the exact time of His coming, we are commanded to watch. "Blessed are those servants, whom the Lord when He cometh shall find watching." Luke 12:37. Those who watch for the Lord's coming are not waiting in idle expectancy. The expectation of Christ's coming is to make men fear the Lord, and fear His judgments upon transgression. It is to awaken them to the great sin of rejecting His offers of mercy. Those who are watching for the Lord are purifying their souls by obedience to the truth. With vigilant watching they combine earnest working. Because they know that the Lord is at the door, their zeal is quickened to co-operate with the divine intelligences in working for the salvation of souls. These are the faithful and wise servants who give to the Lord's household "their portion of meat in due season." Luke 12:42. They are declaring the truth that is now specially applicable. As Enoch, Noah, Abraham, and Moses each declared the truth for his time, so will Christ's servants now give the special warning for their generation.

But Christ brings to view another class: "If that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to smite his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; the lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him."

The evil servant says in his heart, "My lord delayeth his coming." He does not say that Christ will not come. He does not scoff at the idea of His second coming. But in his heart and by his actions and words he declares that the Lord's coming is delayed. He banishes from the minds of others the conviction that the Lord is coming quickly. His influence leads men to presumptuous, careless delay. They are confirmed in their worldliness and stupor. Earthly passions, corrupt thoughts, take possession of the mind. The evil servant eats and drinks with the drunken, unites with the world in pleasure seeking. He smites his fellow servants, accusing and condemning those who are faithful to their Master. He mingles with the world. Like grows with like in transgression. It is a fearful assimilation. With the world he is taken in the snare. "The lord of that servant shall come . . . in an hour that he is not aware of, and shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites."

"If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee." Rev. 3:3. The advent of Christ will surprise the false teachers. They are saying, "Peace and safety." Like the priests and teachers before the fall of Jerusalem, they look for the church to enjoy earthly prosperity and glory. The signs of the times they interpret as foreshadowing this. But what saith the word of Inspiration? "Sudden destruction cometh upon them." 1 Thess. 5:3. Upon all who dwell on the face of the whole earth, upon all who make this world their home, the day of God will come as a snare. It comes to them as a prowling thief.

The world, full of rioting, full of godless pleasure, is asleep, asleep in carnal security. Men are putting afar off the coming of the Lord. They laugh at warnings. The proud boast is made, "All things continue as they were from the beginning." "Tomorrow shall be as this day, and much more abundant." 2 Peter 3:4; Isa. 56:12. We will go deeper into pleasure loving. But Christ says, "Behold, I come as a thief." Rev. 16:15. At the very time when the world is asking in scorn, "Where is the promise of His coming?" the signs are fulfilling. While they cry, "Peace and safety," sudden destruction is coming. When the scorner, the rejecter of truth, has become presumptuous; when the routine of work in the various money-making lines is carried on without regard to principle; when the student is eagerly seeking knowledge of everything but his Bible, Christ comes as a thief.

Everything in the world is in agitation. The signs of the times are ominous. Coming events cast their shadows before. The Spirit of God is withdrawing from the earth, and calamity follows calamity by sea and by land. There are tempests, earthquakes, fires, floods, murders of every grade. Who can read the future? Where is security? There is assurance in nothing that is human or earthly. Rapidly are men ranging themselves under the banner they have chosen. Restlessly are they waiting and watching the movements of their leaders. There are those who are waiting and watching and working for our Lord's appearing. Another class are falling into line under the generalship of the first great apostate. Few believe with heart and soul that we have a hell to shun and a heaven to win.

The crisis is stealing gradually upon us. The sun shines in the heavens, passing over its usual round, and the heavens still declare the glory of God. Men are still eating and drinking, planting and building, marrying, and giving in marriage.
Merchants are still buying and selling. Men are jostling one against another, contending for the highest place. Pleasure lovers are still crowding to theaters, horse races, gambling halls. The highest excitement prevails, yet probation's hour is fast closing, and every case is about to be eternally decided. Satan sees that his time is short. He has set all his agencies at work that men may be deceived, deluded, occupied and entranced, until the day of probation shall be ended, and the door of mercy be forever shut.

Solemnly there come to us down through the centuries the warning words of our Lord from the Mount of Olives: "Take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares." "Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man."

"Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

But of that day and [that] hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is."

Christianity EtcRe: Christianity: A Religion Or A 'Way Of Life'? by Pygru: 4:20pm On Jul 13, 2013
kimba: Let me rather give my own testimony:

Christianity to me was a religion when:
1) Everything I did was out of compulsion, because i really wanted to have my own way, but time and chance did not permit, and secretly i was waiting for when ill turn 18. The hardest thing in my whole life was to obey my parents, say im sorry, to close my eyes in prayer was the next abomination, i was just plain adamant, i resisted everything about God and good. Twas as if I should go live on my own planet. What i was interested in was all disorderliness, a rough lifestyle, causing trouble and disrupting the peace. I even wanted to join the army so i could beat up somebody.
2) Deep-down within me I didnt want to go to Church, I had to make daddy happy with his little boy, so I went. As I sat down, faking sobriety and concentration, I mocked at all the pastor had to say. I was a time-keeper, watching the minutes slowly passing by, waiting for the closing prayer. I never heard what was said.
3) Prayer and Bible reading was a task on my time-table, twas a mere routine.
4) I had thought i was serving the pastor by going to church. In fact, i thought i didnt need to read the Bible, that I didnt need God, i thought i knew everything. I usually felt very bad whenever i ticked 'Christian" on a form or some document. I felt Christians were wasting their time, worse, I thought i was wasting mine with theirs.

Christanity became a way of life when, I gave my life completely to Jesus.
I prayed a simple prayer of forgiveness, led by the Pastor in Church, out of compulsion, and I thought that would be it. But something happened, I will never forget, twas like a huge burden lifted off me. I was saved. My past forgiven and forgotten, twas like the Sun just arose, I began to see changes in me. I had a new beginning.I shook myself to my former past preconcieved reality - behold twas gone. Before then, i never smiled, but now, im always smiling. Suddenly, i began introducing myself as a CHristian first before i said what my name was. Nobody said i should. I began comparing my words, thoughts, deeds, everything I deed with what the Bible said, what God wants, what God would have expected me to do. Gods word became a ruler I used to measure my lifestyle. I read the Bible without been compelled, and things that never made meaning to me suddenly became glaringly clear, and i began to wonder "what has been happening to me all along?" Things that confused me in the Bible became crystal clear, as I read one passage, the other explained itself, Now, before I take decisions, i would rather weigh everything by the light of the scriptures. Now, i find it easy to tell the truth, and things i had found to be next to impossible now became easy. To say a genuine sorry is so easy. Doing things that please God now became my daily assignment, that rather than please man, i would put my God first. Now, i have Faith in God, though before I never trusted anybody. Its now easy to pray and expect immediate answers, i mean immediate. My Bible is now my daily companion, what else could i ask for if God is always by my side.

Christ purpose was to pass his lifstyle on to His 12-disciples who would then influence others by it, and so on, and so on. But man naturally likes to make easy things hard, so at the end of the day after struggling up and down, he'll feel he has acheived a feat. Jesus said:
John 15:
v12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
13Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
14Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.
15Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

Imagine Jesus calling us Friends!! what could be more than that, If we say literally, hes a son to God the Father, and he calls us Friends, then its like we are on the same level, and we can call God our Father, making us heirs of the Kingdom. THe best of all things is that God is with us.
I love this

Enjoy Pygru in your defence.[/quote]“Otherwise, who would have believed that the social, civil, constitutional and sundry rights crusader Prof. would maintain a safe distance from the heart of an activity that is a potential threat to the peace, security and safety of the people of a state, then collect exaggerated stories and jaundiced perspectives from familiar propagandists and character assassins, and promptly summon the media to a “state of the nation” address.
“It’s an embarrassment to his throng of admirers and followers, that a sage of Prof. Soyinka’s status, who used to be a gauge of public morality in this nation, would lend himself to a propaganda of high drive, to save a governor who elected to launch into a river without applicable survival skills.”
