DOES ANYBODY KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT TRUCARDS? |
I have to retract my first post. It seems that there were survivors. Sorry about the mix-up. ABUJA, Nigeria (CNN) -- A Nigerian airliner carrying 104 people crashed Sunday near the Abuja airport shortly after takeoff and burst into flames, airport and government officials told CNN. A hospital official told Nigerian television channel NTA that his facility was treating seven survivors. The Boeing 737, operated by Nigerian airline ADC, was still on fire at the edge of the runway hours after it crashed around noon (6 a.m. ET). Debris from the shattered plane, body parts and personal belongings of passengers were strewn over an area the size of a soccer field where the plane went down in a wooded area, according to The Associated Press. Rescue workers pulled burned remains from the smoldering fuselage, and about 50 bodies were gathered in a corner of the site, while the tail of the plane hung from a tree, The AP reported. (Watch the scene at hospital near crash site -- :55) The aircraft was heading to the northern Nigerian state of Sokoto and may have been carrying the Muslim state's highest ranking official, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Mohammadu Maccido, according to a senior source with Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo's office. Flight 53 was scheduled to take off from the Nigerian capital Abuja at 10:35 a.m. and land in Sokoto an hour later, according to ADC's Web site. Nigeria has a poor air safety record, with at least 11 crashes since 1995 that have killed more than 500 people. The last crash involving ADC happened in November 1996 and killed all 146 people aboard the Boeing 727. That flight went down in Imota, Nigeria, after the pilot lost control of the plane while trying to avoid a head-on collision with another aircraft. Third fatal crash in 12 months Sunday's crash is the third fatal crash for Nigeria in the past 12 months. On October 23, 2005, a Bellview Airlines plane went down in bad weather near Lagos, killing all 117 people on board. An aircraft operated by Sosoliso Airlines crashed in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, on December 10, killing all 108 on board, including many schoolchildren on their way home for the holidays. Shortly after that crash, Obasanjo temporarily grounded Sosoliso and many leaders of Nigeria's civil aviation industry were fired. Months later, Nigeria's aviation minister ruled that the plane crashed because it ran into wind shear during landing, according to a news release from Sosoliso Airlines. Two weeks ago, ADC's chief executive officer Capt. Mfon Udom told a Nigerian newspaper he expected his airline to be recertified by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority to meet international safety standards by the end of 2006. |
breaking news: adc plane crash: sultan of sokoto suspected to be on board, no survivors. |
I supported Kramnik in the match because I didn't want a FIDE champ to be the world champ. It would give them a lot of credibility. At least now we know that the BRAINGAMES/ ACP champ Kramnik is the world's best player. By the way, Topalov is a cocky guy who tried to win the title outside the board. Does anybody here know how I can play Chess online? My favorite site Instantchess.com is no longer free. |
The effects of weed are subjective. So you have to be smart enuff to know the differnce between a guy that's headed for the rocks and a stable guy who eats well, takes care of you and just uses the happy drug to relax. |
Has anybody actually made free calls on MTN XtraCool Plan. My cousin says its a fraud. She tried for about two hours at night and didn't get through to any MTN number, which are supposed to be free. Ironically, she got throught to numbers on other networks, which are not free. Has MTN perfected another scheme to rip Nigerians off. If they are worried by Celtel's entrance, they should at least do honest promotions and stop all these marketing gimmicks. I think it's time to start an AntiMTN site. By the way, my cousin spent 24 mins held by customer service. Talk of customer neglect. |
Some of my friends are interested but they are going to start serving in February. Any hope for them? |
No, Mourinho cannot shut up because he is a great coach. Fergie the Mouth has managed to win one Champions League crown in like 20 years, while the neurotic Frenchman, Wenger has managed one quarter-final and one final. Mourinho has won 1 Champions League, 1 UEFA Cup and 4 domestic titles. His unfancied Roman-less Porto Team beat the great Red Devils and Fergie's record against the Special One is awful. Only a great man will give 2 Premiership medals and his hand-tailored jacket to his wonderful fans. Only a great manager will walk out on the UEFA winners reception. People despise Mourinho because he is a winner and a non-conformist, but then so was another great guy, Muhammad Ali. Here is a poignant quote from Jose for all you haters. "If Roman Abramovich helped me out in training we would be bottom of the league, and if I had to work in his world of big business we would be bankrupt." JM. |
Does anyone know anything about www.trucards.com? Is it a reputable site? |
Mourinho might not be the best coach in the world, but he is certainly The Special One. As a True Blue since 1997, I am not going to critique a coach that gave us the CHAMPIONSHIP twice. If I were the Queen, I would take that knighthod from grumpy Alex and give it to Jose. |
I agree with Seun completely. I don't agree with the EFCC ban. The EFCC cannot deny us our basic right to freedom of information just because they want to catch some crooks. The EFCC lacks the most rudimentary police and investigative equipment. Rather than employ a dragnet policy, they should ask the government to provide them with sophisticated equipment with which they can track scammers and other criminals. Scams happen everywhere, but you don't hear of developed countries banning people from browsing at night. Supposing you are a legitimate trader on the internet, it actually makes more sense for you to trade at night since this is the time that traders in the Far East and the East Coast of America are awake. All these idiotic draconian measures will not stop fraud in Nigeria. It will only create a deadly power-obsessed organisation (EFCC) that will soon be searching phones and perusing diaries of anyone that fits a particular profile. Q. |

Isn't the Chinese business community in Nigeria like ripping us off? I mean they get to dunp those awful ersatz "clothes" in Nigeria, imitation hair extensions, pay our casual employees peanuts, swindle our naive government employees and indulge in corporate espionage. a Nigerian entrepreneur or businessperson won't get away with any of this in The People's Republic Of China. Think about it. |
How much apiece? Qanadi@yahoo.com |
Well, I couldn't help getting involved in this discussion. I am going to be brutally frank. I was there this year for the B INC SOPHOMORE awards and to visit my friend Blake X and being a walking antenna and information junkie, I sure observed a lot during my 6 day stay. By the way I really had a swell time and got plastered and hung out with HOT chics. Well, if you want to go to a liberal private university where there very little restrictions and you can bring any sportscar to school, IUO is the school to be in. If you want to be a hippie dipsomaniac undergrad, IUO is the school. Same thing goes when you want to finish your degree within the stipulated time and not have to buy handouts or cope with chronic teacher absenteeism. However, Igbinedion University like most Nigerian universities, has an outdated curriculum, barely-qualified lecturers, horrid architecture-unlike Covenant Uni- and does offer much in the way of innovative methods. Nearly everything about Igbinedion University is about spin and image management. The university only turns on the style when the accreditation teams visit. And even though there are brilliant students there, there are a lot of dumb students who "sort" about 40,000K for some courses. You could also end up with major depression if you have an inferiority complex. The roll of cars in IUO include but are not limited to: RAV 4s, C-Classes, Kia Rios (Brand New) etc. However, there is an upside. The Nigerian educational system is in shambles anyway so why not just cough out 311K or 400K depending on your course and then then get a job, start a business or get a masters degree. I'M STILL COLLECTING ENTRIES FOR MY INSPIRATIONAL STORY BOOK AND ARTICLES FROM WANNABE MAGAZINE WRITERS. PLEASE SEND ALL ENTRIES TO QANADI@YAHOO.COM |
I am working on a collection of inspirational stories by Nigerians for Nigerians. Pleas submit your stories to qanadi@yahoo.com |
Hello Nairalanders. I just had an idea for an inspirational book of stories and relevant quotes for young people by young people. Does anyone have true inspirational stories to contribute? Please email your stories and get more details. Qanadi@yahoo.com |
Is the drink owned by Nasfat? |
Hello Nairalanders, I am currently working on a dummy copy for a magazine and I am looking for a very good and reasonably-priced graphic DESIGNER. Since this is just the corner stone of a bigger media venture, stock options will be part of the deal. So when the IPO comes, we will both get rich. Interested folks should send an email to qanadi@yahoo.com. |

I think you need an agent. Most conventional writers in developed countries work with an agent. An agent could be an invaluable business accessory that could help you get very high prices for your book, arrange book signings and paid appearances. He could also help you if you want to option your story into a film. The problem with Nigeria is that everyone feels that the next guy wants to steal his idea. Maybe we should strenthen our patent laws |
I am very new on Nairaland. How can I send private messages to other users? Is Seun the only one that can do this? |
