Animals even have more freewill than those things. But that's EXACTLY the type of "freewill" humans have |

budaatum: I must most strongly disagree.
Just the basics of what time you wake up in the today is up to your own freewill (least if you are not a child subject to others), as is whether you turn right at this very moment or turn left. Even whether you eat today or not is subject to your very own free will to provide your own food or not.
The Bible God recognised the loss of that battle of control versus free will when it is written to have lost it over Adam when Eve asserted her freewill, despite the absurd attempt to make it seem it was a serpent's will. That's the genius of the camouflage. Does AI have freewill because it can decide to turn right or left? |
Christianity Etc › Re: Christianity, Free Will, And Modern Technology – Can Devices Influence Human Aut by QuinQ(f): 8:26pm On Nov 26, 2025 |
MaxInDHouse: We all agreed that humans have freewill but it's when dubious individuals want to speak against God that they choose to be blind to reality.
If there is no freewill how come we have laws and punishment for offenders?
Surely we believe the offender has freewill either to live by lay down rules or break the rules!🙂 So if you lay down laws AI must follow or it'll be punished, that means AI has freewill? |
Christianity Etc › Re: Christianity, Free Will, And Modern Technology – Can Devices Influence Human Aut by QuinQ(f): 6:23pm On Nov 26, 2025 |
If you THINK, you'd realize freewill is a well-camouflged illusion to begin with. Saying a human has freewill is EXACTLY like saying AI has freewill |

1. How long did he go undiagnosed with hypertension? 2. Should a pharmacist be the one prescribing medications? Some bp medications can increase the risk of heart attack. 3. He should have avoided alcohol.
His health is his responsibility. Nigeria does not have emergency medical services so it is understandable that his friends didn't contemplate calling for one. Just ignorance. Ambulances in Nigeria are only good for carrying corpses in caskets not for emergency rescue. Nigeria indirectly happened to him.

It is exactly like gun problem in America. The cat is already out of the bag and it is a waste of time trying to put it back in. The ONLY solution is the American solution - license proven law-abiding citizens to carry guns - BECAUSE criminals already carry guns and there is no way to take it away from them! |

Girls that grow up without a father, love father figures. Then add being the favorite of 5 women, it becomes irresistible!

The questions I keep asking is, Obi should have just gotten married to Clara. If you don't tell, who will know? Like, is there any obvious feature one can use 5o identify them? It's not as if they have 4 eyes or 3 legs anyways. I mean, they blend in almost anywhere. It's sad sha Are you kidding? How did Obi know Clara was osu. Besides, the villagers always thoroughly investigate before any marriage. Even when Obi told his father about Clara's family he knew right away they were osu |

I couldn't help though because they were recommended texts while in school. He's the greatest writer Africa has ever produced as far as I'm concerned. He has this short story "Sugar baby". Probably due to the Osu curse...The failed relationship(which anyone could have sorted out) to bribe(wey pple don dey do since) he reach him turn, he was caught b4 he could even start🙂 In everything, I felt pity 4 him. But you fail to note: HE DID NOT MARRY CLARA! Any supposed curse only comes from MARRYING! Also, his best life was when he was with Clara. Once she left was when things went south! |

FashionCookie: Yeah I know it had nothing to do with Clara. Everything that kept happening to him and his family, don't you think it was the Osu effect taking place? When the forces of nature is/are against someone, what others have been doing and getting away with, when it Comes to their tun, they fail. Even in little and inconsequential things. That's actually a very good novel, though very short. It is actually a love story. In my opinion it rivals his famous "Things Fall Apart". Achebe is the best. See excerpt below

Omoluabi16: This is where her mother failed her. She was popular, doing fairly well with huge potential for growth. The face card was there and could have opened more doors. Parenthood means knocking sense into children's coconut heads when they start experiencing or having those yeye thoughts. But her mom practically stole the show that wedding day. Nigeria is very harsh on single mother/divorcees. She was her own person, making her own money. There's only so much a parent can do when it comes to such a child concerning whoever they claim to love. Your best bet is to allow them because they'll do it anyway |

When the forces of nature is/are against someone, what others have been doing and getting away with, when it Comes to their tun, they fail. Even in little and inconsequential things. You could have a point if he had gone ahead and married Clara. But he didn't. In fact you could argue that Clara was his good luck and that his luck started going bad when Clara left his life. Besides, he never really had any bad luck per se. He was just caught in a bribery sting. |

Omoluabi16: Not at 18.. not with a 60+ old man. If a child threatens suicide for not ending up with an ancestor, she should be totally flogged. I mean flogged! ESPECIALLY at 18 when they don't understand life and are just led by emotions. At that age they don't consider age or practicality - everything is about excitement and feelimgs |

FashionCookie: I know all these? Do you remember how it actually ended for him? His mother died(though no spiritual undertone)...he was struggling financially...even Clara left him. At the end of the day, everything seemed to work not in his favor no matter how he tried. Ok, you did read the novel. Yes, but all that had nothing to do with Clara. His mother was already very sick, then she died. He was so financially pressed he could not travel to the East from Lagos for the funeral. Those financial stresses led him to start taking bribes. Eventually he was caught. But non of that had anything to do with Clara. |

FashionCookie: Yes. Actually, that novel came to mind when this topic was raised. Think the parent's decision worked against their son's inability to make it(in the novel.) Everything seemed to work against him. Are you sure you read the novel? Obi and Clara were fervently in love as young adults. Obi was so in love with her he was ready to even die than not marry her, especially when he found out she was pregnant. His mother told him she would kill herself if he married her, an osu. Mind you, his family is the most fervent and foremost Christians in Umuofia. Clara had to go for abortion, etc. |

Omoluabi16: At 18 you were going to kill yourself... You and your mother were greedy. It was a trade off. What changed? 6 years of lavish living done tire you now now. If you want to go go! But Pa Nwoko should Never ever release those kids to her. My friend girls fall in love (or think they do). Nothing is as intoxicating to a young lady as being the favorite among many women |
